Chapter 6

Bella tossed and turned all night. She didn't get to talk to her father till well after noon the next day. When she did, he sounded worn out and stressed. He wouldn't tell her what was going on, just that there was someone who needed him right now.

She ended up staying at the Webbers for five days.

Sunday Bella joined her temporary hosts at church. Pastor Weber's sermon was oddly cryptic. He spoke about forgiving oneself and judgement of others.

Monday the rumor going around school was that there was a murder on Friday. When they got back to the house, Angela asked her father about it.

He Glanced at Bella, then reluctantly answered. "I wouldn't call it murder. A series of events happened where the end result was fatal."

Bella wanted to speak to her dad. She thought he would be less obscure. She was wrong. He confirmed someone died, but that was all he would do. He told her he loved her and that he would see her in a few days.

Tuesday was more of the same. Bella ignored the rumors and focussed on her classwork. After her homework was done she hid out in Angela's room and wrote.

In the dark

A creeping madness crawls over me.

Whispered words and hidden truths mock the unseeing fools.

But how can we fools know where to look when there is no spark of light to show us the way.

We are stalled, stuck here with our ignorance until someone offers a hand to guide us and pull us into the light.

Who will that someone be for me?

Will anyone find me?

Or will I remain here in the darkness unseen?

The madness has found a way in now.

It's crawling under my skin and seeping into my bones.

I call out.

For answers, for help?

I don't even know.

It doesn't really matter, because like always no one responds.

I am alone, unseen, unheard, and most of all unanswered.

I remain here.

Still unacknowledged.

Always in the dark.

Wednesday

The loud clang of lockers drew Bellas attention.

"I heard they couldn't clean it all up. There's still some brain grounded into the pavement." A blond boy bragged excitedly to a raven haired girl. "Do you want to come with me to see it after school?"

"Ew, no." The girl whined.

Bella rolled her eyes. It was terrible what some people found joy in.

Through most of the day it was the same thing. Stories became more exaggerated and outlandish by lunch. At this point the dead guy's head was missing, supposedly still hidden somewhere near the crime scene.

Bella wondered how long this topic would go on for. That question was answered during their last class.

"Did you hear?" Jessica whisper-yelled to me.

"Um, some guy's head is rolling around main street. Or at this point, are his limbs buried in boxes at each corner of Forks?"

Jess laughed, "Oh, you're funny. No, there are not one, not two, but five new students starting here on Monday."

"Okay,"

"Okay? Bella seriously this is huge."

"Um,Yay?" Bella didn't know how to react. She was always the new kid.

Five new kids, all in highschool. If they're all from the same family that was big. But honestly she couldn't bring herself to care.

By the end of class the new news was all over school.

Tyler threw his arm around Bella "Bella boo, as of next Monday You are no longer our new girl. Do you want to get together this weekend and mourn the loss of your status?"

Bella cautiously glanced over at Lauren, But she didn't seem to notice or care about what Tyler was doing. She was two busy hanging off none other than Mike Newton's arm. Glancing over at Jessica she could see the girl was pissed.

"So what do you say?" Tyler brought Bellas attention back to him. "Pizza? Dinner? Movies? Park? Your first trip to First Beach? We can have a funeral."

"What?" Bella asked now confused.

"Mourning your loss. Your new girl status." He pointed out.

"Oh, no. I'm happy to see it go."

"Okay, then it's a celebration. So same options, what do you want to do?"

"We'll let you know on Friday." Angela said as she grabbed Bella's hand and pulled her out to the parking lot.

Bella really loved that girl. Not only did she put off Bella from having to answer the question, but she also inserted herself into any plans that may be made, making them a group event.
