Chapter 11

Bella spent her fourth class lost in her thoughts. Would her new friends be mad or happy she was bringing one of the new girls to their lunch table? She could only hope they would be happy.

She got to the lunchroom and found Alice. She was just about to show the girl to her table when Someone stopped her.

"What are you doing?" The voice was smooth, musical, hypnotic even.

The two girls turned to see the copper haired boy. His tall frame stood stiff and his hair looked like he was running his hands through it, yet somehow it still looked stylish. His skin seemed to shimmer as his green eyes burned into Bellas.

Her mouth dropped open. He was an adonis. A living work of art.

"I said… What... are… you... doing?" He seemed annoyed.

Bella didn't answer, she couldn't.

"I just wanted to make some friends." A small voice answered beside her. "We were just going to eat lunch together."

He spoke to Alice but his eyes remained on Bella."No Alice, you will be eating lunch with us. Let's go."

"But, Edward." Alice started.

"Now!" He snapped at her.

The blonde boy stepped up to Edward like he was going to fight him but then a hand shot out and grabbed the boy's shoulder pulling him back.

Bella wanted to look over and see what was happening but she couldn't tear her eyes away from the boy in front of her. Edward.

The blonde girl stepped up to them and wrapped her arm around Alice. "It's ok Alice. He just doesn't want you to get hurt. Making a friend only to have to leave will break your heart. Why don't you wait until Carlisle signs a contract before you try to make friends?" The blonde said soothingly.

"I'm sorry Bella. Maybe next week." She heard Alice's disappointed voice.

It wasn't until Edward turned away that whatever spell she was under broke. She shook herself, then went to her lunch table.

"What was that about?" Jessica asked in amazement.

Bella could only mumble "I don't know."

The next day Alice smiled sadly at her but didn't say anything. At lunch she could swear that Edward was scowling at her. This happened everyday for the next week.

Then on Tuesday Alice came into their third class.

"Hello." She said happily.

Bella looked at her incredulously "Oh, so you're allowed to talk to me now?"

Alice blushed "Yeah, I'm sorry about that. My brother can be overprotective. I have good news though. My father signed a two year contract with the hospital."

"Congratulations." Bella deadpand.

"I really hope you're still willing to be my friend." Alice sounded so sad.

"I don't think your brother likes me."

"Oh no, that's just Edward. Emmet says he needs to get…" Alice blushed again. "Um, a girlfriend."

"Who's Emmett?"

"My oldest brother."

Bella pressed her lips together. She decided that she wouldn't hold Edward's attitude against Alice.

"So does that mean you want to eat lunch with us?" Bella asked.

"Can we make plans for after school instead?"

"I have to talk to a few people first. Maybe later in the week." Bella told her.

Bella waited till after school to talk to Angela.

"Hay Angela, What would you say about maybe inviting that new girl Alice over after school tomorrow?" Bella bit her lip. She felt awkward asking and if she didn't feel just as awkward telling Alice no she wouldn't be.

"Oh, um actually wanted to ask you if maybe you wanted to join the homecoming committee. I heard they were looking for volunteers and I thought it would be really fun. What do you say?" Angela looked hopeful.

"When is Homecoming?"

Angela cringed. "In about two weeks."

"So we start tomorrow?" Bella asked.

"Yes." Now Bella cringed. "Come on Bella. You could invite Alice. It could be lots of fun."

"What will we have to do?" Bella asked, still not liking the Idea.

"Well I will be taking photos, but they need help with donations, decorating, ticket sales, and counting votes, things like that."

"Okay, I'll ask Alice. If she doesn't want to help out, you can still do it." Bella said. "I'll just go home after school instead of coming here."

Angela frowned. "I'd feel bad."

"No, Don't Ange. I'll be fine. I know how much you love taking photos. I want you to do this. It's just two weeks right?"

Angela sighed. "Yeah, okay."

The next day Bella talked to Alice.

"Yes!" she said with a cheer.

Ofcourse. Bella thought.

They decided to meet up in the gym after school. Bella and Alice were painting a large cardboard cutout of a castle tower. There was also a unicorn cut out, and a paper mâché dragon. Someone was tying sticks together and spray painting them black. The theme was fairy tale and it looked as if they were going for every aspect.

They left the gym at five. Bella was expecting Charlie to pick her up but mrs.Weber said he was running late. Bella wrapped her arms around her middle. She couldn't help remembering the last time he worked late. She knew it was unfair but she felt like he abandoned her over those five days.

"What about you dear, do you have a ride?" Mrs. Weber asked Alice.

"Yes. My brother should be here." Alice craned her neck.

A black jeep skidded to a stop at the entrance of the parking lot. Loud music blared from inside. Emmit stood up still half in the car looking over the roof.

"Come on Aly, Lets go!" He yelled over to her.

She gave a timid smile to Angie's mom. "There he is."

We got into the car then watched the jeep peel off.

"Charming." Mrs. Weber mumbled.

Bella loved her sarcasm. It wasn't something you would expect from a pastor's wife.

"I don't want you girls getting into a car with that boy behind the wheel."

"Yes Mom." Angela said.

"Bella?" There was a warning tone in the older woman's voice.

"Yes ma'am." Bella reluctantly agreed.
