It's been seven years since they left LA. It feels like a lifetime ago sometimes. Another life.
Out on the farm demons, vampires and evil law firms seem like some fairytale nightmare to the two of them now.
Since the day they left they've been trying to forget all the evil's they both saw. The evil's he caused.
Most of the time it was hard. He'd wake in a cold sweat, screaming that his heart was being ripped out. The only way to soothe him was the way she would run her fingers through his hair, trying to reassure him that it was over; that they were safe.
She would run her fingers over his tattoos like a lullaby, reminding him of the matching symbols she had burned into her skin to assure their safety.
"We're ok." She'd whisper, her fingers soft in his hair.
"No, it's not. Don't' feel alright darlin'." He'd whisper, his accent thicker and more relaxed since their escape.
"Yes." She'd insist standing and pulling him out of their bed. Quietly he'd follow, feeling like a lost puppy and allowing her to drag him like one.
Tara pulled him to the porch of their quiet and secluded home, their haven for over seven years. "Look." She'd say firmly, turning him to the horizon. "Sun's riding like any other day." She moved and stood before him, letting the tie of her robe fall open, baring herself to him. It still amazed him how relaxed she was with him; she'd been so different when they first met. Then again so had he.
Lindsey's eyes skimmed over her body, admiring her curves and the way it complimented the dark tribal ink that covered her shoulders and chest, the bottom symbols slowly stretching over her swollen belly.
"We're safe, all three of us. You can't live scared Lindsey. You'll rob us of our freedom if you do. The one we fought hard for. We've waited so long for this." She moved his hand down her chest to her stomach. "Seven years of freedom. The sun's rising to give us another day."
His eyes met hers and the tension poured away from him for the first time in a while. Slowly he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer, his hands splayed across her back and the feel of her warm body comforting him even more. "I see that now."
