"Have dinner with me."
"K–Supergirl, put the helicopter down."
"I will in a minute." Kara looked up at the pilot and the two tourists, one of which had her camera out and several flashes lit up Kara's face in quick succession. "See they're fine." She smiled back at Lena before looking at the pilot again. "Right?"
The pilot looked startled at being called upon and quickly nodded his head, his hands still out bracing the frame of the helicopter as if to help keep it aloft in this very bizarre turn of events. "See. They're perfectly safe. So dinner? Tonight? I'll cook." Kara said happily. She hefted the massive aircraft as if it were just a baby she was readjusting on her hip instead and the shrill pitch of terror that the pilot yowled out made Lena flinch. Kara gave the pilot a bashful, almost apologetic look. "Sorry, it was slipping."
"WHAT?" The pilot screeched, before he looked slowly down at the 50 story drop and whimpered.
"Relax, it's all good now." Kara looked back at Lena who was staring back at her with an agape face. "I could use an answer kinda soon though…"
There was an eerie metallic groaning and Lena's eyes widened. "I don't understand why you think now is the best time to have this conversation."
"I can't help that their engine failed in the area." Kara said unconcerned.
"Three miles Supergirl! They were three miles away!" Lena said exasperatedly.
"It was two and a half tops." Kara said, smiling mischievously. "Come on. Say yes?"
Lena scoffed a laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of the situation. She was standing on a balcony fifty stories up, Kara hovering casually in the air with a helicopter attached to her hip like it was a completely natural occurrence while she waited on Lena for an answer.
More metallic creaking and then she heard a distinct snapping sound.
"SAY YES!" All three passengers cried out loud as their growing apprehension boiled over into panic.
"Ok." Lena said quietly.
"What?" Kara asked and Lena leveled a glare at her knowing she heard her perfectly clear.
"YES! Happy now?" Lena shouted and laughed as she watched the victorious cheesy grin spread wide and proud across Kara's face.
"It's a date, then!" Kara said and Lena's smile faltered, the words falling out of Kara's mouth so effortlessly and wrecking Lena so wholly. It's a date. A date. A date with Kara. She crossed her arms and stared back at the beaming Kryptonian before her, the only cue of her budding excitement and nerves showing in her inability to control her bottom lip from being pulled in between her teeth. "It's a date." Lena said after her heart calmed down enough for her to focus on words. "Now how about you finish rescuing those poor souls?"
Kara nodded happily, unable to take her eyes away from Lena's. "Tonight? You and me. A real date?" Kara clarified.
"Yes. As agreed upon. With the promise of home cooking." Lena pointed as she looked at Kara knowingly, "Take out plated on dinnerware, will make it null and void." She finished with a smile.
"Yes ma'am." Kara said happily and Lena felt slightly affected by that as heat flushed her face. Kara hovered in her spot, her eyes holding their penetrating gaze on Lena's. She had been dreaming and simultaneously fretting over this simple questions for weeks. Their little cat and mouse game of flirting had been on everyone's radar including Brainy's who is notoriously bad at recognizing social cues. Here it was finally affirmed and all it took was a gentle shove. Or rather an engine failure that made her catch a 50 ton aircraft before hitting her favorite ice cream shop that she and Lena had been promising to visit sometime next week.
The pilot broke her out of her thoughts with a gentle tap to the glass windshield.
"Ummm, can you take us down now please?"
