Chapter 3: Introductions and musings
Pain groans and weak footsteps bounced off the halls of Beacon. A boisterous laugh and words of affirmation only followed. "You did quite well today, Jaune. Remember those readings I assigned about the Fanus Revolution," said Bartholomew.
"Yes, and while we have supper, I can retell one of my great adventures," said Port
A grunt was the only response the two Huntsmen got. It was only followed by a pained whimper from Jaune Arc when he opened the door to the cafeteria. He trudged along, grabbed whatever he could, and sat down.
The others followed right behind him and sat opposite the boy. "Now listen close young Jaune, because just like all of my stories, they have an important lesson. This is how I saved frontier villages with only a branch and my wits. During a snow storm in Altas, no less," Peter began with one of his long-winded stories.
Jaune listened to every little detail he could, even if he did pass out every now and then. At first, he didn't believe the stories of Peter Port. Saving an entire village with just cabbages? Who would believe him? But after watching him single-handedly clear the entire Emerald Forrest of any strong Grimm and capture a Boarbatusk? Well, when he said. "Then I skewered the pack of Sabyrs with my trusty branch in one fell swoop. Ho ho, the Elkhound Alphas were dumbfounded enough and wise enough to stop in their tracks."
He believed him, even if they seemed a little embellished. "Yes, yes, and last I remember when I got there to back you up. You were bedridden for three days. What you should learn from this story is that there should be no wasted movements in combat, especially in serve weather," Bartholomew interjected, "And last I check, they were Sabyrs and three normal Elkhounds."
"Don't tell him that, Bart. I want him to think I'm still hip," Peter said sadly.
Jaune could only chuckle weakly, "I don't know Bart, he was there personally, so I think his words hold more merit."
Peter looked at him like a grandfather being told he was still cool. In contrast, Bartholomew looked at him like a disappointed Uncle. There were so many other options that Jaune knew he could have done but still wanted to hear the end of it.
"As I was saying," Peter sent Bartholomew a smug glance, "they were mighty, but I was mightier." This went on for the rest of their meal. Peter retold one of his embellished stories, Bartholomew corrected him, and Jaune tried not to fall asleep. After their meal, they went their separate ways. Peter and Bartholomew chose to retire, and Jaune decided to bake.
Halfway through the process, a voice rang out. "Baking at such a late hour, Jaune?" Jaune turned to see the Headmaster at the door of the kitchen.
"Yeah, doing things I'm good at relaxes me, so baking," Jaune replied while turning back to his work.
"I am assuming your new schedule is difficult to adjust to?"
"Yeah, from physical conditioning four days in a row, learning how to fight on the other three, whatever stuff everyone assigns me to study on, and this diet. You could say it's difficult."
"While being able to do something that we are proficient at is reassuring. Don't forget no one is born great. No one is born knowing how to wield a sword. A little secret, but I was a bumbling fool when I first started. But I improved, and one of the secrets of improving is using you're already acquired skills to improve."
Jaune let the idea simmer for a minute until an idea came to his head. "Do you think I could use my skill in dancing to help my fighting?"
"You could, but that would mean your fighting style would have to be based on dancing and possibly lose the shield in the process. If not, use your confidence in dancing to help."
Jaune hummed.
"What other skills are you proficient at?"
"Sowing, messaging, cooking, baking, hair, and dancing. I tried to learn anything about being a Huntsman, but my family always stopped me. From my siblings attaching themselves to me until I give up to my father grounding me if he ever found out himself."
"Yes, well," Ozpin was cut off from the sound of the oven's beeps and his scroll ringing. Both persons performed their respected duties and then looked back at each other. "It seems we'll have to cut this conversation short. There is a young Huntswoman in training I must attend to; do you mind if I take some of these cookies with me?
"I don't," Jaune replied, then mumbled, "after all, you can't fake something like this."
"What was that, Jaune? I didn't hear you."
"It's nothing, and here," Jaune pulled out a sizeable container, "they might be extra hungry."
"Thank you, and don't forget what I said."
"I don't think I can bake a Beowolf in submission, but I won't."

"I hope you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly young lady," Glynda said while marching around the dimly lit interrogation room at the local police station. "You put yourself and others in great danger."
"They started it!" Shouted the other occiput of the room.
Glynda rounded the person with her black Scroll in hand. "If it were up to me, you would be sent home with a pat on the back." They perked up, and Glynda looked at the person. "And a slap on the wrist." She slapped her riding crop for emphasis, and the person yelped and recoiled in fear.
"But there is someone here who would like to meet you," Glynda stepped aside to reveal Ozpin coming from the shadowed doorway with a mug in one hand and a plate of freshly baked cookies in another. Did he seriously buy cookies before coming here? What bakery is still open at this time of night?
"Ruby Rose," Ozpin started, "you," he paused and leaned down to get a better look at her, "have sliver eyes."
"Um?" Ruby stated nervously.
"So, where did you learn to do this?" Ozpin motioned to the video presented on Glynda's scroll. It was of Ruby Rose, a dark, choppy hair that turned red near the end. She was in a red and black lolita outfit with a red cape and a scythe of the same color scheme as her and twice her height.
"Singal Academy."
"They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?" Asked Ozpin.
"Well, one teacher in particular."
"I see," Ozpin handed over the plate of cookies, and Ruby hesitantly reached for one. She ate it, her eyes danced with excitement, and then she went for another. "It's just I've only seen one other scythe wielder of that skill before; a dusty old crow."
Through the food, she replied, "That's my uncle," she swallowed and then cleaned her mouth. "Sorry, these cookies are really good."
Ozpin chuckled, "I'll give your compliments to the chef."
"That's my uncle," she said again, "he's a teacher at Singal. I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing, and I'm all like." Ruby then made action noises and waved her hands around as if in a kung fu movie.
Glynda thought while observing the scene before her. Somehow she escaped with her life. I guess Qrow can do something right. I just hope Ozpin doesn't do anything drastic.
"So I've noticed," Ozpin said. "And what is an adorable girl such as yourself at a school designed to train warriors?"
"Well, I want to be a Huntress."
"You want to slay monsters?"
"Yeah, I only have two more years at Singal, then I'm going to apply to Beacon. See, my sister is starting there this year, and she's trying to become a Huntress. I'm trying to become a Huntress because I want to help people. My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought. I might as well make a career out of it. I mean, the police are alright, but Huntsmen and Huntress are just so much more exciting and romantic and exciting, cool, and just ah! You known?" Ruby squealed while failing about in her chair.
Glynda looked unmussed and a little disappointed. She must have been fed stories of grandeur while growing up. Like Jaune, I hope their outlook on the job isn't shattered at the worst moment. Well, that's naive of me to think anyway.
"Do you know who I am?" Ozpin asked.
What are you planning, Ozpin? Glynda wondered
"You're Professor Ozpin, the Headmaster of Beacon," Ruby replied.
"Hello."
"Nice to meet you."
"You want to come to my school?" Ozpin asked while leaning forward.
Glynda sighed and thought to herself. Please don't do it.
"More than anything," the young girl replied.
Ozpin looked to Glynda. She only gave a non-committal hum and looked away. He would probably do it anyway.
Ozpin then looked back to Ruby and responded. "Well, okay."
/-/
Jaune yawned and groaned for what seemed to be the thousandth time. Today was the day when new Beacon students would come. He wondered - if by some miracle - what it would be like to be in their shoes. Well, the chances are that a part of him would be in someone's shoes with his motion sickness. Don't get him wrong; he was grateful for the offer he was given. I probably got an amazing deal now that I think about it.
He would be learning and training at Beacon Academy until he could qualify as a Huntsman. There was no time limit, no way he would lose the deal if Ozpin got replaced, and it was his say when it came to determining if he stayed here. That was unless he broke the rules, of course, and there was no way he would do that no matter what.
Lucky wasn't something Jaune would consider himself. He was still deciding whether or not getting stabbed that night was really luck. I mean, who can say I got stabbed, and that's how I got the job. Oh man, when mom finds out what happened exactly, it won't end well. Or even dad, heck he hates Ozpin last time I checked.
Dad would always glare at the TV whenever he was on the news. Like it would magically catch fire. Heh. Maybe it could if his semblance was anything related to fire and if that is even remotely true. Then, mom could freeze things or blast out people's eardrums. Well, I don't think she has Arua, but with how many children she gave birth to I wouldn't be surprised.
Jaune looked into the sky, ignoring everything around him. From one girl separating from another in a dust cloud of friends to the numerous suitcases being pushed off by butlers. I wonder how everyone is? I mean I did just up and leave with the family sword and shield. I did leave a note that said 'Goodbye, I'm going to achieve my dreams.'
It's going to scare Sahpron and enrage her when she hears about this. Well, she is on another continent, so not like she can do anything anyways. All I have to worry about is the other eight people in the house. I hope dad can still make money considering I took his weapon. I hope the little ones won't cry too much. I hope-
Jaune was cut short by the sound of an explosion in the courtyard. Shoot my job. I was supposed to guide students and make sure no accidents happened. Glynda is going to kill me. Jaune finally got to the scene when it seemed to be resolved. Unfortunately. That would mean there was only a red and black gothic lolita in a cater and no one else.
She looks familiar. "Hey, do you need a hand?" Jaune asked while outstretching a hand to the young girl. The girl, in turn, looked up in surprise and then took his hand.
"Thanks," she said while nervously shifting.
"So, what happened here?" Jaune asked while pulling out his scroll.
"Oh well, I was talking to my sister about how I didn't want to be the bee's knees and have normal knees. I didn't need to make friends; all I needed was her and my baby Cresent Rose."
"Your baby?" Jaune looked up from his scroll with surprise. Does she have a kid? Isn't she a bit young?
"Yeah," Ruby then pulled a red and black rectangle from her lower back, and it expanded to be a scythe taller than Jaune. "This is Cresent Rose. She's a customizable high-caliber sniper rifle scythe hybrid. I built her myself," she said while cradling the weapon.
"Wow," after a pregnant pause, he started again, "anyway, what happened next?"
"Oh right, then she just left me with some of her friends. After that, I bumped into this crabby white-haired girl and knocked over her suitcases. Then she goes off about how I could have caused an explosion with her dust, and then I sneezed, and we both blew up. Finally, this black-haired girl came out of nowhere and talked about how her dad's company mistreats the Fanus. Which led her to stomp away, and the black-haired girl walked away," she said almost all in one breath.
If I didn't know Bart, I wouldn't be able to keep up. Heck, she almost lost me there. "Okay, I understand, and did you catch the name of the white-haired girl and black-haired one?"
"Yeah, the white-haired one was Weiss Schnee, I think, but I didn't get the other one's name."
"That's fine. Can you a least describe her to me?"
Ruby thought for a second and looked back to Jaune. "She wore black and white with black leggings turning into purple I think. Oh, and she wore a big black bow on her head."
"Gotcha, and what's your name?"
"Ruby, Ruby Rose."
Jaune outstretched his hand, "Jaune Arc, short sweet and rolls off the tongue. Ladies love it."
Ruby took it and chuckled, "Do they?"
"They do or will; that's what my dad would say. Anyway, let's get you to the auditorium."
After a minute or two, Ruby decided to break the silence. "So… What do you have?"
"I'm sorry?"
"Your weapon? What's it like?"
"Oh," Jaune looked down to his hip and patted it, "this is Corcea Mors. It's just a sword and the sheath doubles as a shield."
"That's it?" She sounded a bit disappointed.
"Yeah," Jaune looked away a little ashamed. He knew that just about every other Huntsman had some kind of transforming weapon. But damnit even if he did steal the family sword; it was still his family sword. Although Glynda did say something about getting him at least a pistol. Which was fair.
"Oh," Ruby waved her hands in front of her, "I don't mean anything bad about it. Not everyone can appreciate the classics. Roman Torchwick has a cane that doubles as a gun. Not fancy but it works for him"
Jaune pondered for a couple of seconds. Roman Torchwick was also a familiar name to him. "That's where I know you from," Jaune said, surprising Ruby.
"Huh?"
"I remember setting up your paperwork and sending the stuff to your dad in Patch."
"Wait, how do you know where I live?" She asked worriedly and got ready to bolt or fight the man before her.
"Nothing bad, I swear," he said while raising his hands in mock surrender, "I'm sort of like teacher assistant around here. A student who helps the teachers. Expect I don't get extra credit."
"Really?"
"I swear, on my family's name," he said with one hand in the air.
"Okay," she said, not fully believing him. "So why did you help me?" She said awkwardly.
"Well, my mom said that strangers are just friends that you haven't met." She looked at him strangely. "Also, I'm training to be a Huntsman, so helping people is necessary. Right, well, here you are, Ruby. I do hope you pass." Then Jaune disappeared outside to stop any more accidents, hopefully.
/-/
Ruby stared at the retreating form of Jaune one last time. He was strange and awkward like her. So they could bond over that, but the idea that he already knew where she lived didn't help. Maybe she would run that by Yang. That would be best.
"Ruby over here," called out a buxom blond. The girl who called out was near the stage in the crowded auditorium of prospective students, from her wild mane that reached her butt to the revealing clothing and golden bracelets. It spoke of an adventurous party girl about a head taller than the five-foot-two girl.
"Yang!" Ruby ran over to her without pretense.
"How's your first day going, little sister?" She asked cheerfully
"You mean since you ditched me and I exploded?" Ruby snapped back with her arms crossed.
"Yikes, meltdown already?"
"No, since you left me, I literally blew a hole in front of the school. And there was some fire, and I think ice. There was this crabby girl, and I met this weird guy who knows where we live."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, what was that last part?" Yang asked with her lilac eyes turning red.
"I met this weird guy who knew where we live?"
"Where is he? What does he look like? Was it Junior who sent him?" She asked while looking around like a mad dog.
"Wait, calm down, Yang; he set up my paperwork and was the one who sent it to dad. He's a student here and helps the staff."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Besides, I think he's my friend."
"Okay, but I just want to talk to him next time you see him."
"Yang," she droned out, knowing how her sister could be when it came to her. Why did I think this was a good idea again?
"You!" Shouted a person behind Ruby, which prompted her to jump into her sister's arms.
"Oh god, it's happening again!" Ruby screamed.
"You're lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff." The new arrival said.
"Oh my god, you really exploded," Yang said with a concerned gaze.
"It was an accident," Ruby jumped down from her perch, "It was an accident. It was an accident." The white girl waved a pamphlet in front of Ruby that read 'Dust for dummies and other Inadequate Individuals.' "What's this?"
"The Schnee Dust Company is not responsible for any injuries or damages sustained while operating a Schnee Dust Company Company product. Although not mandatory, the Schnee Dust Company highly encourages its customers to read and familiarize themselves with this easy-to-follow guide. The best application and practice in the field," she said with practiced ease.
Ruby could only come up with one response, "Um?"
"You really want to start making things up to me?"
"Absolutely," Ruby said, and the diminutive girl shoved the pamphlet into her hands.
"Then read this and don't ever speak to me again."
"Look, uh," Yang made her presence known to the conversation, "it sounds like you got off on the wrong foot. Why don't you start over and try to be friends, okay?"
"Yeah, great idea, sis. Hello Weiss, I'm Ruby; wanna hang out? We could go shopping for school supplies?" Ruby said hopefully.
"Yeah, and we can paint our nails and try on clothes and talk about cute boys like," Weiss looked around with her icy blues until she found a boy, "like tall, ginger, and dumb over there." She jutted her thumb at a boy who matched her description.
"Wow, really?" Ruby asked with more hope. After a pause, Weiss responded. Maybe this friend isn't as hard as I make it out.
"No." Ruby pouted and was about to retort but was cut short. From the stage, Ozpin cleared his throat into the mic, ending all conversation and attention towards him.
"I'll keep this brief," said Ozpin standing in the center of the stage with Glynda, "You have traveled here today in search of knowledge to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you are finished. You plan to deviate your life to the protection of the people. But when I look amongst you and all I see is wasted energy in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free of you of this burden. But your time at this school will only prove knowledge can only take you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."
The crowd shifted nervously and looked at each other, thoroughly disturbed by the Headmaster's words. Then he casually walked off the stage, and the Vice Headmistress took his spot. "You will gather at the barn tonight. Tomorrow your initiation begins, be ready. You are dismissed." She then walked off in the direction of Ozpin to meet a familiar blond waiting on the side.
"He seems kinda off," Yang said while the three watched Goodwitch join the Headmaster and Jaune.
"Yeah, like if he wasn't really there," Ruby said. She squinted her eyes at Jaune, then widened them in surprise. "Oh, there he is," she pointed him out.
"The weird guy?" Yang asked with a little too much eagerness.
"See what did I tell you, Yang. He works with the staff, and he's a student here," Ruby said with the pride of a younger sibling proving their siblings that they were wrong.
"He seems a bit scrawny to be a student, and what's up with his get-up? Is he a civilian trying to pose as a Huntsman?" Ruby had to admit Jaune didn't scream Hunstman. All he had were pieces of armor that covered his chest and elbows. He also had shoulder pauldrons, a grey Beacon academy hoodie, torn jeans, and combat boots.
He looked around as if he was looking for someone and then pointed to the trio of girls. Glynda followed his hand and ushered him forward. "Great, he's coming over here. Saves me the time," Yang said while putting one of her fists in her palms.
"You sure you want to do that with the Vice Headmistress with him?" Weiss said almost smugly.
"Hey, Ruby and your," Jaune seemed to shut down when he passed his eyes to Weiss. He didn't say anything for a couple of seconds, and the Vice Headmistress became more annoyed by the second. Weiss was visibly getting annoyed and uncomfortable at the same time. Glynda coughed into her hand to break the silence and show her displeasure. Jaune blushed, finally realizing what he was doing. "Sorry," he muttered out, "You're Weiss Schnee?"
"I am, and who might you be?" Weiss asked, making her displeasure known.
"I'm uh, I work for the, the staff of Beacon and a student. I just want-wanted to hear your side of what happened outside the school." He looked down and seemed to mutter something about confidence and his father's advice.
"You mean the hole this dolt caused after tripping over my luggage?"
"Yes," he said awkwardly. Ruby would admit she probably had the same amount of skill when it came to socializing and saving herself from mess-ups.
Weiss glanced at Ms. Goodwitch and then began to retell the accident from her side as if it wasn't her fault. Why would she do that; it was her fault she shook Dust in front of Ruby. Then it finally hit her. She was just trying to get out of trouble.
"Hey!" Ruby exclaimed and caused everyone to look at her. Which she just retreated into her cloak and reddened to her namesake. She recovered and went to work, "That explosion wouldn't have happened if you didn't shake the Dust in front of me."
"And that hole in the ground wouldn't have possibly if you just noticed your surroundings. Honestly, why did you come to this school if you're just going cause explosions and destroy school property?" Jaune opened his mouth to say something, and Ruby felt Yang get progressively angrier, but Glynda beat them to the punch.
"That is enough," she ordered, and the immediate vicinity snapped to attention. "You're both Hunters in training, and you will act like it." She looked to Weiss, "You both still have to go through initiation," then she looked to Ruby, "and everyone here has shown that they have the skill and knowledge to at least participate, regardless of age. I will personally go through the footage to find out what exactly happened. I hope both of you don't pass because if you do, you'll have detention the first week of school. Now that would truly be disappointing."
Without saying another word, she left, probably to fix the hole. Ruby looked to Jaune for any sympathy and found some, "Sorry, I was just doing my job, but I do hope we can be friends. I don't really have any." Then Yang put a hand on his shoulder; Ruby widened her eyes in shock. At the same time, Weiss was mumbling something about detention and slowly falling onto herself.
"You did my sister dirty there, Lady Killer," she said. Jaune trembled in her grip but straightened his back.
"As I said, I was just doing my job, and if it's any consolation, I would've done the same to my own siblings."
"So you would sell out your family because of your job?" Yang tightened her grip, and he physically showed his discomfort.
"Well, no, because they would be part of an accident and should own up to it, even if they didn't cause it. It's called being responsible and helping to solve a problem they were a part of," he said with conviction, which was the exact opposite of when he started this conversation. Yang looked at him neutrally and narrowed her eyes. Then she smiled and laughed. Yang slapped Jaune on the back, and he stumbled.
"You're alright, Lady Killer. So, you have siblings?"
He recovered, only to come back with a smile. "Yeah, seven sisters."
"Seven?" Yang exclaimed while Ruby and Weiss just did a double-take. Seven? Ruby couldn't imagine seven Yangs. Oh, Gods, the puns, so many puns. There wouldn't be enough cookies in the world to save her from that torture. Jaune just laughed at their stunned expressions.
"Yeah, I love all of them, even if they put me in dresses." That, that made Yang grin like a shark. Well, it was nice knowing you, Jaune. Ruby silently prayed for his safety. Well, better him than her, she guessed. If Jaune had any older siblings - the chances of that being true was high - he should've known that was a bad idea.
"Oh, and are you ever going to show us, girls, how to dress up, or can you only dress up chicken?" Jaune chuckled. Oh no, Jaune chuckled at one of Yang's jokes. Oh no, this is not good. Not good at all. Ruby had to get out of there before Yang could come up with another one. "Oh, you liked that one? Well, trust me when I say I am full of jokes. Some might even say that I'm punny?" He chuckled again, but to Ruby, that was a death warrant. Well, there goes Jaune. Today we lost another soldier.
"Jaune, don't laugh; it will only get worse," Ruby pleaded with her puppy dog eyes.
"It wasn't that bad, and a pun every once and a while is fun."
"Yeah, Rubes, you should lighten up and get with the puns. Yang Xiao Long is funny," she said while somehow laughing and talking at the same time. Something that Ruby would never be able to figure out.
Jaune chuckled once more - unfortunately - and turned to leave. "Well, it was nice meeting you, Yang, W-Weiss, and seeing you around Cater Face."
"Wah, hey!" Ruby shouted after him.
"Ha, he got you there, sis. Don't worry; you'll get him next time," Yang said while ruffling her sister's hair.
/-/
A red-haired spartan woke to the boisterous laugh of the portly professor watching over them. Taking a few seconds to clean herself up, she looked around and found him talking to a blond boy and a green-haired man. She only shrugged and continued with her morning routine. She was hoping that Beacon would be different than Sanctum.
She supposed being a four-time champion fighter would always follow her in some capacity. But it would be nice not to be noticed for that or at all. To just be her, a face in the crowd. She was thankful for the chance she got and the success. Some people would kill to be her. Funny how life works. Some people want to be in the spotlight and might never be in the spotlight. While others wish to leave it, and they're never able to.
What would it take even to become unrecognizable? She wouldn't know where to start. What she was doing was obviously wrong because she saw everyone whispering.
"Is that her?"
"I thought those rumors were a lie?"
"Imagine if I could get on her team?"
Her musings were broken when she noticed one important thing. She was lost. Well, no one could recognize her if there was no one around. This is kind of like that question. What was it again? Something with a tree falling, or was a Grimm roar? Fous! I must find the cafeteria and then the lockers.
"Hey, you lost?" A person called out. She turned around to see that boy again jogging up to her.
"Oh yes, sorry, I just woke up before everyone else, and I decided to take a walk."
"Right, well, come on." The boy said while he ushered her in the direction of the cafeteria. Should she say anything? He seemed to have knowledge of the school's layout. Even a connection with the staff here. He's probably an upper-classman. However, he doesn't look like much. But I have to remember what my father said. Never truly judge a fighter by first glance. Maybe he could give me a challenge.
"So, how long have you been at Beacon?" She asked, pulling him out of his musings.
"Huh," he looked up from the scroll he was carrying and scratched the back of his head. "Sorry, I was looking at a message from the Headmaster. What did you say?"
"No, no, that's fine; it must have been important. I asked how long have you been at Beacon?"
"Oh, I've only been here for a week or two," he said while looking back at his scroll.
"Really," she was surprised. Maybe he was a professor here. It would explain his familiarity with the teaching staff. "I'm sorry I didn't notice you were a professor." It seemed like it was his turn to be surprised.
"Me? A professor," he pointed to himself, "oh no, I just help them with anything around the school. There's no way I could be a professor."
"So you're a secretary?" She asked with a tilt of her head.
"Yeah, something like that." The conversation came to an end when they finally reached the dining hall. "Well, here you are, Miss, whoever you are. I hope you pass." With that, he was off to do whatever he was assigned.
Wait, he didn't know my name. She thought with a hint of surprise. I guess there are people out there who don't know me.

Impatient heels tapped on the solid earth that overlooked the famed Emerald Forest. Ozpin took another sip of his coffee and looked over to the source. Glynda was tapping away and looking to the distance, looking for a certain blonde knight. Or would it be squire? Do we even have squires these days? "Jaune can only move so fast. He's only had two weeks of training."
"I know, sir, but if he is to perform his duties properly, he should be here in a timely manner. As well as to remember, he is here to train to become a Huntsman. Not to flounder around girls," Glynda said, not taking her gaze away from the school in the distance.
"Give the young man a chance, Glynda. He might even surprise you."
"Oh, and with all due respect sir, but with what?"
"Well, for one, he made the cookies I brought for Miss Rose that one faithful night. He's taking to his new life rather well. Made all of our coffee without even being asked."
"While his thoughtfulness is appreciated, I am sure Miss Rose loved the cookies. Considering she ate with unwavering speed," Glynda shuddered at the mention, "his new life just started. That does not mean he will not fail."
"I would have thought you would have more faith in my choices."
"I usually do, but sir, he isn't made for this life. He should be at college or working in a coffee shop to meet this month's rent. Not starting to train to be a Huntsman at the age of seventeen."
"None of us were truly made for this life of battle against creatures of darkness. Now I might agree he is starting a bit late compared to everyone else."
"A bit?"
"Yes, a bit, but some of the greatest warriors learned how to fight later than him. Did you know his ancestor Joan Arc learned to fight Grimm in her late thirties? Who's to say he can't do the same."
"Sir, he isn't Huntsmen material."
"Then we will make him into a Huntsmen. After all, there is a legally binding contract that we do." Glynda could only sigh. She tapped into her scroll to send an automated message to the locker room to gather all the initiates. The footsteps of Jaune Arc brought her attention forward to see him walking up.
"Sorry, I'm late. I finally got some breakfast in and lost track of time."
"I expect you to be quicker considering your position at this school and how you can lose it," Glynda said. Jaune looked down in shame while Ozpin only took another sip.
"Today, Jaune, you will be observing your fellow students while taking part in this test. I want you to take notes on how they fight and what you think could be improved."
"You got it, Ozpin," Jaune said casually. Glynda sent him a glare for that. "I mean, you got it, sir." Ozpin chuckled.
"Ah, here comes the first batch of students," Ozpin said while pointing to the arriving gaggle, "Let's see what this year will bring." This is going to be a fun year. Hopefully, Glynda won't suck all the fun out of it and lighten up.
AN: So I read the reviews every time I see a new one. A little late but thanks for all the love. As well I'll be responding to a review I saw, and obviously I won't do that for everyone or if this story becomes big, but yeah. It was about semblances and to be fair that was the show. Talking about how they evolved due to convenience in the show? Well that was the show, and this is this. I hope that didn't come off as aggressive or anything.
Just the show could definitely be better like all things. I don't really like the story Rooster Teeth has but I still watch it because it's fun to turn off my brain and watch. The set pieces though at awesome. I mean holy shit they are so cool.
Also, the second part of that review talked about my comment about how long Coeur's fic is and that was just me. What I mean as if I was just listening to it, it would take like an hour. Nothing wrong with that, but sometimes I get bored. Totally my own fault for reading almost non stop when I was recovering from surgery.
What I am trying say is that how far this story will go will be until it's end. To be perfectly honest I don't know what that is, but let's see where it takes us. Side note got this done and reread it while I was sick. And at the time of publishing I'm still sick. So fun.
For those who know and wonder why I didn't add the last two people. The answer is really simple, I don't think I had the time. I got Ashen to read Chapter 2 and they're working on it, but they have a life. I might find another Beta, but I'll still have them read if they're still down. I honestly don't know if this was a good chapter. There wasn't a lot of show in my opinion and too much tell. So if you made it this far. Good job and thanks for coming. I regardless of my words I do hope you enjoyed it. That is the end goal. If you like what I make content. Check me out on Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, and TikTok. Side note I hate TikTok and Facebook, but they're a necessary evil.
