I have to admit something. I am addicted to reading fanfiction, and I started to do this to state my hunger. Om nom nom give me more! … It helps. Maybe you should make your own product to stave off your addiction. That was a joke for those who didn't get it.

One thing I like to state is that the crew of RWBY did not do a great job at writing in the begging, and they still have troubles, but they're learning, and they had like three writers back then. As well, it was their first time writing a show. Hats off to them for making something that is still airing today. Also, the current problem for the characters won't be a one-off thing; it will be part of something bigger.

Chapter 5: The Start of Something and the Doubts of Creatures

Jaune was running late. Going from doing odd jobs to being the secretary to all the staff and huntsman in training was tiring. He took a sip of the coffee he had in one hand. It got him moving a little quicker towards Port's classroom. Jaune was used to lazying around on days like these. He would probably be playing video games until the same time he woke up today for his exercise.

The papers he had to print out for Peter's syllabus slipped away, and he sighed. The soreness of his muscles screamed as he bent down to grab the papers. He honestly didn't want to stand up, but he needed to get there before the students. He was held to a higher standard than the students. He could get fired for the same thing as the staff and students.

New rules were completely made for him because of his special situation. He couldn't really understand what it was exactly. If his internship or training. If his job went well, there might just be another one. There could be another normal person that takes his spot after him. It was something Ozpin mentioned before, and honestly, it was terrifying.

Not only was his future on the line, but so was everyone else's. He didn't know how to get through this, considering the whole situation was a rush to the system. "Ho, ho, you're finally here, lad. I didn't see you in the teacher's lounge, so I thought you overslept," Peter said with too much energy for the morning. Jaune scratched the back of his head in response.

"Ah, you brought my syllabus. Thank you. Give half here, and we can pass it out together when they get here," he instructed. Within the metal cage on the other side of the room, thrashing and squealing could be heard from within.

"Is that what I think it is?" Jaune questioned with a bit of apprehension.

"I expected you would notice. It's a Grimm I caught whilst clearing the forest," Peter said while gesturing to the cage.

"Isn't that a bit dangerous for the first day of school? What if it gets out and attacks the students while they're unarmed?"

"Then they wouldn't be long in Beacon if it got to them. Besides, I will be here with my weapon if anything gets out of hand, and so will you." Peter gave Jaune a pat on the back after his last comment, and the students started to file in one by one. Jaune didn't think he could face whatever Grimm Peter captured. He didn't even have his armor, just a modified Beacon uniform.

All it had added to it was a patch in the shape of a shield on his shoulder that had the letters T.A. Everything else was normal, from the black dress coat to the black slacks, shoes, white dress shirt, and red tie. Maybe he could sneak out while he wasn't looking. "Oh Jaune, you're here helping. Any way you can get me answers for the next test," said the now present Nora.

"I don't think he's allowed to do that, Nora," said Ren as he filed in after the ginger bomber.

"Hello Jaune, how are you?" Pyrrha asked in a cheerful tone.

"Oh hey guys, no, I can't do that, Nora," she pouted in response. "But I can help you study since I am a little ahead of you guys."

"Aww, but what's the point if our teammate can't help us skip the boring parts?" Jaune just chuckled and shook his head. He then turned to Pyrrha.

"I'm doing fine, Pyrrha. Thanks for asking, and word of advice; you guys are in for a long one," he added as Ren dragged Nora to open seats.

"Thank you for the warning," she said before going after her teammates.

"I believe that is time, do me a favor and shut the door Jaune," Peter asked, and the blonde complied with a nod. But before he could team Ruby burst through the doorway. "Ho ho, and that should be everyone." Jaune shut the door and stood off to the side to watch the chaos unfold.

"Monsters, Deeemons, Prowlers of the Night, yes, the creatures of the Grimm have many names. But I call them prey." Peter went on about his greatness, and Jaune tuned him out. It was a rare time for the boy in the four weeks he started at Beacon, but he was relaxing. With all his love for Peter, he couldn't help but tune him out with this opportunity.

Being ushered into the huntsman life was what some might call extreme at his age. Typically you would start at the age of eight or ten. Something he already knew, but with the amount of training Ozpin was putting him through, was insane.

Ozpin came at Jaune with his cane raised for a thrust at the usual speed. Only for him to feint and swing at Jaune's feet. Jaune fell to the floor and rolled out of the way from a stomp from his foot. Rising, he retook his stance. His feet were a little too wide, his arms a little too stiff, and there was no real plan in his head. Jaune charged with a war cry, and his sword rose.

Ozpin stood there waiting for his student to reach him. The sword came down, and he deflected it with the shaft of his weapon. He promptly shoved his handle into the blond's face. Jaune fell again and opened his eyes to see the rod pointed at his neck. "Do remember that you can't just rush in with no plans for battle, Jaune," Ozpin said in a knowing tone.

He retreated his cane and extended his hand for Jaune to take. "Thanks," Jaune said as he dusted himself off. He looked towards Ozpin and then back at the ground. He was summoning up the courage to say his following words.

"Is something the matter?" Ozpin asked as he walked back to a bench on the side of the training area.

"Oh well," Jaune scratched the back of his head as he followed. "I know you have this whole training plan set out for me, but do you really think I can even get to a level where I could fight first-year students by the end of the year?"

"Are you doubting my methods?" Ozpin asked.

"Wh," he stuttered out, "no." He said while raising his hands placatingly. "I just don't think I can reach the level you want me to."

Ozpin sighed and brought a water bottle over to the teen. "I have complete faith that you can close that gap, Jaune. While it has only been two weeks of training. I believe that you have it in you to reach said level. After all, you are being trained the best the world offers."

"I get that, but why the end of the year? It just seems like a lot to do."

"I agree with you there, but Jaune, I must be frank with you. I need you to reach that level by the end of the year."

"Why?"

"Because I need to present you to the Council of Vale. If our training here can prove successful, I can make the life of every member of Beacon easier. You see, there is another reason why I took you on. The council members don't believe in my strength as a Headmaster and if I can train you. And I know I can. I can restate their faith in me and possibly the people."

Jaune stared at the man for a couple of seconds and back to his bottle. He wondered why the Headmaster would take on a person like him. He couldn't believe that he would just take pity on him just because he wanted to be a hero—a Huntsman. "But make no mistake," Ozpin said, and Jaune looked back at the sliver, grey-haired man. "I do also want to make you into a Huntsman. Nobody gave me a chance when I was young, and here I am." He gestured to himself. "The strongest Huntsman on the planet. Just imagine the possibilities of what you can be when you complete your training."

The loud sound of metal breaking metal brought Jaune back to the present. The caged Boarbatusk broke free and charged for Weis. Who was standing at the ready in her full combat dress and weapon. It rushed forward and so did Weiss. She swiped at its side, but her blade bounced off in the pass.

The beast slammed into a desk and broke it. Jaune winced, knowing Glynda wouldn't like the idea of something being broken on the first day of class. He moved over Peter to be a little safer, just in case. With another charge at the oversized boar, Weiss stabbed near its bone mask. Her sword got stuck in one of the four tusks that decorated its face. The weapon was tossed away—a possible death sentence for the girl.

"Oh ho, what will you do now without your weapon?" Peter questioned.

"Weiss, go for its stomach, its stomach," Ruby shouted from her seat.

"Be quiet, you dolt. I'm trying to focus," Weiss snapped at her. Ruby sat back down. She looked back to her weapon and the beast stomping its hove into the ground. It charged forward once more, and she dived for her weapon. Both combats turned to face each other down until the demonic shopping cart-sized boar sprung into the air and started to spin. Weiss readied her rapier and placed two fingers forward.

Her snow-white aura shined at the end of her fingers. Once the black and white mass hit the ground, it flew at her speed faster than any sprinter. Weiss didn't move from her spot, and just before contact, a white circle of intricate design with a snowflake blocked its advance. The beast was sent flying, and Weiss jumped up onto another white ring that turned black. She launched herself forward and drove her weapon into its unprotected underside.

"Good show, good show," Peter said as he stepped forward. "It seems we have the making of a true Huntress. Now I want all of you to read the assigned readings on the board." The bell rang, and everyone filed out. Jaune followed through as well, knowing it was the only class for the students that day.

He shuffled to his dorm room and opened it to be greeted by stacks of paperwork. Unlike the other students, Jaune was given a staff room similar to the teachers. An office desk with all the needed amenities. A coffee table in front with a comfy brown couch and two brown chairs surrounding it. To the left, there was a door that led to his bedroom. He walked to the desk and started to file through the papers.

"I think Bart and Professor Goodwitch dropped these off." A knock at the door startled him, and he refined his posture. "Come in." Through the door came team Prawn with Nora leading the charge.

"Jaune!" She shouted

"Oh, hey guys, what's up?" Ren came in next, with Pyrrha right behind him. As she closed the door behind them, Nora sat down on the couch with a ploop, and Ren stood next to her passively.

"We were going to explore the school. We were wondering if you want to join us," Pyrrha asked. Jaune looked at his stack and his team.

"I would love to, but I have all this paperwork. I should be free later, though." Nora pouted, and Ren nodded in understanding. He looked to Pyrrha, "Sorry, partner, but you guys can always drop by if you want."

"Oh no, that's fine, but thank you. I'll definitely drop by, and I'm sure Nora and Ren will do the same," she said as she motioned to the people mentioned.

"You better believe we won't leave all alone to face this Grimm disguised as paper," Nora said enthusiastically.

"I'll come by to find a moment to relax," Ren said.

"Yeah, Renny needs more friends anyway," she whispered in Jaune's ear. However, everyone in the room could still hear her. "I think not having a guy in the room isn't doing him any favors. I saw him drink more of his usual yucky green drinks." Jaune looked to Ren and then back to Nora.

"I'll be the best male friend to Ren I can be," Jaune said as he fake-whispered back.

"Thank you, Jaune," Ren said with a small simile.

"Well, we'll leave you to it. Come on, guys," Pyrrha said as she opened the door again for her team. They left one by one with their goodbyes. Jaune was left to his own devices sorting through papers and forwarding any calls to Ozpin and Professor Goodwitch. It was late in the afternoon when another knock came on his door.

"Come in," he said without looking up. The door opened, and Jaune was surprised to see the school's reaper present. "Oh Ruby, what's up?" He stood up from his desk with pops and cracks coming from his bones.

"Hey Jaune, sorry I didn't notice you were busy. I can leave."

"No, it's fine. I needed a break anyway, and being able to talk to someone would be great."

"Oh," she said with surprise, "okay. So whatcha up to?"

"Uh, paperwork a couple of seconds ago, and you?"

"Oh, you know," she sat down and looked to the sky for an answer. "Just, you know, floating around. Exploring the school it's pretty cool, you know."

"Yeah, it is," Jaune said awkwardly. They didn't meet each other eyes for several seconds, and when they did, they both just smiled awkwardly. He looked towards a coffee maker near him for a cup.

"Do you want a cup?" He asked.

"Oh, no, I'm good. I don't really like coffee." He nodded in confirmation and went for a cup when Ruby spoke up.

"Do you think Ozpin made a mistake?" He turned around to face a down-turned Ruby.

"I'm sorry?"

"Do you think Ozpin made a mistake? Making me a team leader?"

"Huh? I don't know. Why do you ask?"

"Well, I got into an argument with Weiss, and she said she should be the team leader. That she doesn't want to be led by someone who's a child." Jaune stood there for a second. Letting the information stew.

"Well, I wouldn't know if Ozpin was right. Heck, I still doubt my own ability to this day. I'm new to this whole hunter training." Ruby whipped her head up to face Jaune.

"Wait, really? I thought you were part of the staff?"

"Well," he drawled out as he grabbed a cup of coffee. "I am, but the staff is also training me to be a Huntsman." He sat down and met Ruby's face of shock. "Well - you see - there was a mugging near Beacon, and I tried to stop it. I got hurt, and I could've lost all my stuff if Ozpin and Professor Goodwitch didn't step in. Then after talking to Ozpin, they said they would train me to be a Huntsman. In exchange, I would be a helper to the staff." Ruby was still shocked by the end of his tale.

He took a sip of his coffee, and Ruby slammed her hands down on the coffee table. "You're just like me!"

"I'm sorry?"

"You're just like me. Ozpin invited you. I bet you were all cool like a knight from the stories." He chuckled again at Ruby's antics.

"Well, I didn't even have my aura unlocked at the time, and I was so scared."

"But you still stepped in and saved that person. So you had to be cool," she said with her arms crossed in defiance.

"Yeah, but I had no idea how to fight, and I could have seriously gotten hurt."

"But you still stepped up and probably saved that person," she uncrossed her arms and faced Jaune. "No one is born knowing how to fight."

"And you stepped up to be a leader in the initiation. You lead people that you haven't even met until that day," Jaune set down his coffee cup and looked Ruby in her silver eyes. "I think Ozpin made the correct choice. As you said, no one is born knowing how to fight. No one is born knowing how to be a leader either."

Ruby sat there and stared back into Jaune's blues. She sat back and looked to the ceiling. "That's what Ozpin said. Well, kinda but in a Headmaster kind of way."

"Well, he must be right then," Jaune smiled as Ruby looked back at Jaune, "If you have any problems, you can come here and vent about your problems. After all, we special people need to stick together, and don't forget Pyrrha too."

"Yeah, I suppose so, and don't you worry, Jaune," Ruby said as she stood up. "I'll help you with your training and with your weapons. Oh, can I help you upgrade your weapons, and we have to get you a gun." Jaune laughed and nodded.

"Well, I was wondering about a gun and was thinking of getting a sidearm. Mind helping me pick one out," he said as he moved to his desk to pull out a catalog from one of its drawers.

"A sidearm," Ruby whined, "but wouldn't a sniper like Crsent Rose be cooler?" He laughed again and shook his head. "Maybe we can combine your shield and sword to make one." He could already see her make plans in her head to overhaul his kit completely.

"Not everything has to turn into a gun. Besides, I think I should just go with a sidearm. I barely know how to swing my sword." Ruby pouted and sighed dejectedly.

"Fine, but I get to train you and upgrade your weapon."

Shorter chapter, I believe, but considering I did pack a lot in the previous chapter, I had to move houses with the family. It has been a busy month since the last. Long story short, my landlords kicked us out for bs reasons. Fun times, fun times. Now I'm living in a loft that will be made into a room thanks to a friend. Side note, I'm going to learn how to mount t.v.s.

Wish me luck on that and install fans. So I have another idea I will work on that will come out probably after the next chapter. It's a personal idea I have that I want to make into its original thing. Some might say it's bad to post such an idea, but here's the thing about ideas. It's wholly original to the person because it's their perspective.

For those who are interested, it will be a combination of Miraculous Ladybug, Power Rangers, and Digimon Frontier. All are based in RWBY. Now that sounds insane, and you might wonder what the hell that could be. I think it will be cool as hell, and Digimon Frontier was probably the only one with good writing when it was made. But it is a kid's show, so I might be overselling it. It is my favorite, though. So I will be using fanfiction to test out ideas for that idea even though I'm already setting up a completely different story.

Now for my soap box. I'll be honest I tend to take on too much and can't find balance in my life. Then when I finish something and am ready to show it to anyone. I clam up and feel embarrassed. I have my doubts. Thinking it won't be any good. I posted a Youtube video like five days ago and went into a spiral after posting it. I went into a mini spiral while working on it because a power surge messed up my computer, and I had to reinstall everything.

So I have to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone putting reviews on this, following this, favoriting this, and keeping up with this. I'm crying just typing this. Trying to make sure that my laptop doesn't get wet. I didn't think this would get 257 follows and 157 favorites as of the time of writing. So once again, thank you, everyone, and I'll use this feeling on everything else.

I kinda feel selfish doing so, but if you ask me any day of the week, I would say that people are inherently selfish. Nothing wrong with being selfish, but I'm not selfish for myself. I help others because it's a kind of thing to do whether or not it makes me feel good. I don't. I just don't. A twenty-year-old boy just trying, I guess. That doesn't mean I'll slow down on this, and sorry for the tangent. My point is that I'll use this feeling to keep myself out of those spirals, and I'll definitely find myself in those again, no doubt.

I rely on my friends and family to help me get out of those. Although even if they fail me and I fail myself. I'll just push forward and find myself to believe in myself again. I'm not religious if you haven't noticed. But remember - if you're still reading - willpower can't and won't get everyone out of things. I've seen it happen to my friends. Right, um, I don't know how to end this so. If you like my work, come find me on Youtube, Twitch, Twitter, Tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook under Dragoo_Fire. Wow, that's a lot. Oh, and if you want a recommendation on what to read, try "All the difference in the world's" by Some Shitty Rambler or "The Inextinguishable Soul" by Uit het hart.
