Deluded
Axel watches as they lean against the balcony, staring out into oblivion.
The wind whirls around them, playing with their blonde hair, and he scrunches his nose in disgust at how intimate the two of them looked. He doesn't like the way that she giggles and points at imaginary stars, tilts her head towards his, and whispers, "It's a star shower. Isn't it lovely, Roxas?" and how he tilts his head toward hers, and murmurs, "I know. Almost as lovely as you, Naminé." He imagines that they share bright, optimistic smiles, and Axel gets upset.
Naminé's smiles are always broken like glass thrown carelessly onto the floor. Roxas never smiles. The closest thing Roxas has to a smile is when his lips curl ever so slightly, but even then, it was still indifferent and apathetic. At least, those are the kind of smiles that they offer him. They were never happy, bright smiles. He doesn't like how they are lost in their own world, pretending to be somebodies, and ignore him as if he was nonexistent.
A nobody is not supposed to exist, but they do exist. Axel doesn't try to fool himself to believing that he is a somebody like Naminé or Roxas, nor does he pretend that he is nonexistent like Naminé and Roxas do when they pretend to be somebodies. Axel acknowledges that he wasn't meant to exist but does; he doesn't try to fool himself to believing anything more.
"Do you promise that you'll always be my side?" Naminé asks, with a tone that wasn't quite hers. It was hopeful; Naminé was never hopeful. She was broken, just like her smiles. Axel doesn't like the faked emotions. Nobodies don't have hearts; she shouldn't pretend that she has one.
He imagines Roxas offering her an assuring smile. He embraces her. "Of course," he replies, with a tone that wasn't quite his either. It was warm; Roxas was cold, unfeeling. He never really committed any sort of emotions, not even to his best friend. Axel feels bitter when the thought crosses his mind. Nobodies don't have emotions; he shouldn't pretend that he loves.
Axel steps forward and pulls the two apart, and in doing so, he tears apart their illusions of being somebodies.
The End
Obviously, I don't own the Kingdom Hearts series. This was written as a tribute to Naminé x Roxas, with Axel thrown in there, because I think the three of them need some more love.
