A/N: This one-shot is for the April Fanfiction contest on the BBXRae shine. The limit was about 500 words, but this story is a little over 500 (within the boundry, of course). I really don't like it, and the limit caused me to rush a little, but it's short and worth reading. Hopefully I'll do better in the next contest.
"Happy Spring":
The shops were filled with eggs of all shapes and sizes, each with a chocolate filling. Spring was upon them, and the Titans were beginning to settle into the new season. Eating chocolate bunnies, decorating the tower for Easter, showing Starfire the holiday, the Titans were abuzz with excitement and joy. Each day promised fun, and even the usually gloomy goth girl, Raven, had to admit to herself how enjoyable the month had been.
"Raven! Are you awake? Please awaken now, for we are starting the gift giving!"
Raven groaned and slowly cracked open her eyes. "Star, what are you talking about?" she shouted at the door of her room. She could hear her friend fidgeting in the hall.
"Today is Easter! We are exchanging gifts, don't you remember?" she answered, her words slightly blocked from the hard steel door between the two.
Raven's eyes widened completely. "Oh, I remember. I'll be out in a minute, Star," she announced, pushing the sheets away from her body. She heard Starfire skip away.
Spring... I'm not sure why people celebrate it.
Opening her closet, she quickly pulled on a fresh uniform. Snapping the red-jeweled clasp of her cloak closed, Raven yawned and reached for the paper bag on her nightstand. She held it to her chest and left for the Lounge.
Upon her arrival, Cyborg smiled. "Alright, Raven's finally here!" he announced. Raven merely grumbled and plopped down on an armchair.
"C'mon, Raven! Don't look so glum!" Robin complained. She didn't answer.
"Hello, friends," Starfire said, standing up in front of the Titans. "We are gathered here today to celebrate spring and share gifts with one another, little trinkets that express our affection for one another," she beamed. "Now, if we will all stand and exchange our presents in an organized fashion —"
"Bleh, forget the organization! Let's just give our gifts!" Beast Boy laughed, jumping up. Everyone immediately began running around the room, swinging gifts into each other's faces. Raven, however, stayed where she was, handing the gifts to everyone who passed her way.
They better not expect anything huge from me. I gave everyone the same thing: Candy. At least I know everyone, with the exception of Robin, adores candy, Raven thought to herself.
"Um... Raven?" she heard someone say. Raven slowly looked up.
It was Beast Boy, standing right above her. He was holding a brown paper bag in his left hand, right hand scratching the back of his head. He was smiling nervously, eyes darting away from Raven's piercing blue gaze. Raven cocked an eyebrow.
"Coming to give me my gift?" she said solidly. Beast Boy smiled wider and nodded. He extended his hand.
Raven took the bag and opened it. Inside, was a pretty daisy in a cup of soil. Along with the flower were a dozen little chocolate candies wrapped in delicate pink foil. A card came with it: It was white, with a crayon drawing of a happy little sun. "Happy Spring" was enscripted in large, childish writing.
"Because I know, deep inside, that you really love spring," Beast Boy whispered, his face close to her's, so only they could hear. Raven was speechless. Such a simply gift, yet so meaningful and bright.
"Oh... thank you, Beast Boy," Raven said silently, not sure what to say. Beast Boy grinned and lightly punched her arm.
"Happy spring, Rae."
