Chapter 2: Malbeasts
He ran.
Natsuki Subaru ran as he desperately tried to avoid this infernal beast that was chasing him down.
With tears pouring down his eyes, he thought , -WHAT IS THIS THING I'VE NEVER SEEN ONE BEFORE.-As he thought this he looked back for a second and saw the beast gaining on him. It was now nothing more than 10 meters between him and whatever was chasing him.
As he was running he remembered his father saying something about using trees to put something in between him and a predator. He did not remember what specific animal he was talking about, but he hoped it applied to this situation as well.
He did just that.
Subaru dashed behind a tree trying to confuse the creature and to put something in between them. It worked for a moment as it ran a few feet more than it meant to before giving a turn and going back to attack Subaru.
Before it had even begun to turn around, once again he ran around behind another tree trying to get the beast off him or make it crash against the tree itself. He changed directions so that it can't dash directly at him once it avoids the tree. This way there was always something in between them making it harder to get Subaru.
This continued for a few minutes and while it seemed to be working somehow Subaru was getting tired and was having many close calls. He knew that it was a matter of time before he ran out of stamina and then he would be killed by the creature in front of him.
Running to an open space Subaru took off his tracksuit and rolled it around his arm. He broke a branch from the tree he was standing next to. The branch was sharp at the edge and around and he figured he could use it as a weapon to fight back with. He knew he could not outrun it and was getting tired so he wouldn't last long. That meant he had no choice but to kill it if he wanted to survive.
The beast suddenly stopped and stood there watching Subaru almost as if it was being wary of him.
"I need to calm down," Subaru said in a whisper to himself but that was easier said than done. He was terrified and the adrenaline was the only thing that kept him thinking straight. knowing that it could attack at any moment he prepared himself as best as he could, taking a small step back so that his left foot stopped him from falling once it charged. As he was thinking this he thought he heard a voice talking to him from behind but was too terrified and focused on living to pay attention to it thinking he was just hearing things because he was scared.
After a few seconds of waiting it seemed like the beast got tired of it and dashed straight at him.
Subaru only had a few seconds to put his arm in front of him to use a shield against its bite. Managing to do it in time he felt the teeth trying to tear through his flesh but was stopped thanks to the tracksuit he was using to block it. He knew this was his chance to attack so with a shaky grip of the stick he was using as a weapon he stabbed the monster through its eye.
???: AHGGGGGGGGG
Subaru hearing the screams of pain .used that chance to stab it again in its chest while it was distracted by the pain of the wound. He knew it was a risky maneuver but he also knew it was likely his only chance to finish it off.
The brach went through the beast with some difficulty but pierce through in the end without snapping. He was finally able to step away from it a few feet as he saw it shaking and roaring in pain on the ground. After a few more seconds of struggle, it finally stopped moving, laying there on the ground dead.
Subaru just stood there for a few seconds not bothering to move from the spot he was standing on.
"What was that," he said out loud to no one as he fell on the ground exhausted and in shock. After putting so much effort to survive the attack he was left exhausted; it was probably the most he'd been in his entire life. He lay there for a few moments trying to regain his focus but all he could think of -was what was that?- He could have sworn he heard a voice calling him but was too focused on that question.
While he was not a person of nature or animals by any means he was aware of some of the many species in the world. He had to do projects on them sometimes after all and in an attempt to do the best and live up to his father he studied a lot of things. That was at least until he realized it was pointless and he was not good enough no matter how much he tried thus giving up.
Still, never before has he seen something like that. It seemed so out of this world and he could tell that he had been lucky the beast had underestimated him because of his size and appearance and that was what allowed him to beat it and survive. He was also lucky that brach he was using to attack hit where it did, With how shaky his grip it was almost a miracle
That did not mean that he wasn't terrified of it nevertheless.
He sat there for a minute and stood up. Finally being able to calm his nerves he was able to look again at his surroundings.
He saw the corpse of the Beast laying there and the stick he used to kill it buried deep in its chest. He tried to ignore it because he had never killed an animal before and that made him a little sick in his stomach even if it was trying to kill him. He remembered where it tried to bite him and wondered how that ended. looking down at his tracksuit he noticed it was covered in blood and saliva.
"I'm going to need to wash that aren't I?" Said Subaru as he untangled it from his arm.
As he was looking around he saw a bright blue orb that seemed to be observing him from a few feet in the sky.
-What is that- he thought as he approached it carefully. It did not seem offensive but he was starting to get an idea of what was happening and where he could be.
"I wonder what he's doing right now"
Subaru was startled as he heard a voice. He looked around but saw no one or anything around him besides the trees and grass. Very confused he continued to look around as he could have sworn he heard the playful voice of a child and if that was true then it meant they were in a very dangerous area.
"What is he looking around for?" Wondered the unknown voice as he saw the boy looking around.
Subaru looked up and only saw that bright orb. He had an inkling of where that voice was coming from and it could further prove his theory if it was right but needed to make sure. Also, it was pretty unbelievable if it was correct so he asked while looking straight at the orb " is that you talking?"
The strange orb glowed and responded, "Me?" in a confused since it was being directly stared at.
"yes," answered back Subaru as he was getting more and more confused by the minute. First, he appeared out of nowhere in this forest, then a beast that he doubted anyone had ever seen before attacked him, and now there was a talking bright orb.
"How can you hear me?" Asked the orb as she was not supposed to be able to speak yet but was somehow still heard by this strange boy.
"Well, you're the one talking to me are you not?" Said Subaru, still confused about the whole situation.
Subaru was about questions like "Where are we" or "How did I get here" but he was interrupted by something he caught with the corner of his eye, something that made him freeze up. It was Something he hoped was just a hallucinating but as he turned to look at it fully he saw it.
It was another of those Beast no... It was not a beast it was Beasts
He could have sworn he heard that weird orb calling him or maybe it was calling him, but none of that mattered at that moment
What he was looking at absolutely terrified him. He remembered on feral one of them was alone as well as how he struggled so much with it. However, now there were multiple of them Standing right in front of him.
He knew what was going to happen next.
He was going to die
"NO, I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!!"
He did not even process when they started moving but he felt it. He felt the pain of the bites they gave him. He felt them come from every side and how they bit at his arms, legs, and torso. Although it only lasted a few seconds he felt the agonizing pain. For him, it felt like it would never end like an eternity.
Luckily for him, one of them bit through his skull destroying the brain and finally ending the Hell he was going through.
All of this happened while the blue orbed watched in unexplainable sadness as it could not help the poor boy.
That day deep in the forest for no one to see except the various spirits around the area.
Natsuki Subaru had died
I think I did well on this one and I hoped you enjoyed it
yes, I'm sorry but It had to be done Subaru unluckily was summoned in a male beast territory, and when you are not prepared this is the result. Also, I needed him to mature and see that he is not a God in this world.
If you're wondering why the spirits did not appear to help him it's because Subaru was unconsciously suppressing them. It was his confusion and warryness of this new place that caused his brain to suppress the unknown; the spirit appearing, at the end was his brain easing a bit after defeating the Wolgram.
Hope that makes sense.
But don't worry Subaru is still Subaru. He is just more aware of the dangers of this world.
How was the fight scene? Did I do good? it was my first one after all.
Enough of me talking thank you for reading and see you next time
