While trying to find their way back to their own world, they must also protect their new human friends against old foes from both worlds.

Chapter 2: Another Time, Another World

(Meanwhile, in another universe...)

The sun beamed town on the town of Sennin, England and the whole village was bustling with excited activity. Colorful decorations and banners were hung, women had set up stalls and making various food and drink, men were hauling heavy loads of fireworks and all around, children were running around in excitement, helping their families with their work.

You may ask what is the special occasion about? Well, it just so happens that it will Princess Melody's 13th birthday in three days' time! Melody is the beautiful and high-spirited daughter of Queen Ariel and King Eric and she had one exciting adventure last year. It was then that she discovered that she was part mermaid and got tricked by Morgana, the cunning sister of Ursula, the wily and wicked Sea Witch.

Morgana tricked the young princess into stealing her grandfather, King Triton, ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantica, magical trident. Fortunately, with the help of her friends and family, she was able to recover the trident back from her. It was hard, but they succeeded, and Triton banished Morgana in a block of ice. Melody was able to reconcile with her parents and her grandfather removed the great wall that separated the castle and the sea.

Right now, we find young Melody in her room, with her mother Ariel, finding the best outfit for the upcoming celebration. Melody asked her mother, "Mom, who will be coming over to my birthday? Dad told me that he was inviting the other rulers from across the Magic Kingdom."

Ariel smiled at her daughter. She is an enchanting woman with long wavy red hair, fair skin and wore a sparking aquamarine gown with puffy sleeves, a hem decorated with swirly designs and patterns of seashells and sea stars. She wore lavender scallop seashell earrings with a matching brooch on her dress and a pair of sea green pumps on her feet.

"Oh, those rulers are his good friends that he and his family met when he was travelling the world in his younger days." She replied. "They will be coming over and be staying with us for a week or so." "He also invited the wizard Merlin to perform for your birthday." Melody's eyes widened in excitement. "Merlin!?" She squealed. "I've heard so much about him!"

Ariel smiled as she picked out a familiar blue dress, one she wore when she first became human long ago. Thanks to the royal tailors, she had it made smaller and more of Melody's size. "Perhaps, you can wear this." she spoke up. Melody was unsure. "Are you sure, Mom?" she asked. "It's your dress."

Ariel shook her head. "It was," she replied. "and its brought back many memories of how I became human." "But I believe it's time for us to make new memories," she added, handing the dress over to Melody. "and I believe that one day, you will do amazing things, Melody." The pre-teen girl smiled. "Thanks, Mom." she replied, as she accepted the dress.

"AAAAAAWWWWWWWKKKKKKKKK!" A loud squawking cry startled both mother and daughter. They looked to see a seagull with a slightly extended belly and scruffy white feathers on his head flying towards them, through the balcony. "Hey, *GASP!* ladies!" He cried, landing on the bed, gasping for breath. "Have I got *GASP! * news for you *GASP! *!"

The two women giggled. It was no other than Scuttle, one of Ariel's best friends. "Slow down Scuttle." Ariel tried to calm the bird down. "Take a breath and tell us what's going on." "Hoo!" Scuttle coughed and pounded his chest with his wing. "Sorry, ladies. I just got the most amazing news for you!"

"Okay, now!" Scuttle scratched his feathery head. "What was it again?" "I know it was something really important." He wondered aloud while tapping his webbed foot. "What, with all the excitement going on, you think you know what you were going to ask about..." He droned on. "I mean, come on, I can't put my finger on it but if I can just..."

The two women rolled their eyes in amusement. "Scuttle, just tell us what this amazing news is?" Melody asked. Just before Scuttle could reply, *BBBBBWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOO!* a loud horn sounded of in a distance, a signal that someone was entering the harbor. "Oh, that's it!" Scuttle exclaimed. "The other royal families have arrived and Eric's preparing to greet them right now!"

Ariel smiled brightly and her eyes grew wide in excitement. "That's wonderful!" She cried. "Melody, get dressed as quickly as possible and wait for us in the living room!" She hugged and kissed her daughter on the forehead before rushing out of the room. Melody hurried to the balcony and looked outside.

She saw eight large, magnificent ships heading into the harbor. The princess couldn't help but marvel at the majesty and power of the ships, but the most distinguishing feature was that each of the ships' sails held a different insignia.

One sail had an insignia of a crystal glass slipper.

Another had an insignia of a lovely red rose.

A third had an insignia of a large glass mirror with a rose apple at the center.

The fourth had an insignia of three different colored pointed hats; one rose red, another brilliant blue and the third forest green.

The fifth had an insignia of a golden lamp with an Arabian design.

The sixth had an insignia of a golden Eastern dragon with red Chinese patterns.

The seventh had an insignia of a green lily-pad with a golden crown at the center.

Finally, the last had an insignia of a golden sun.

Scuttle joined her at the balcony's railing. He whistled in amazement. "You know, kid." he replied. "your party is certainly gonna be a showstopper if your dad invited all these big shots here in one place." Melody smiled excitedly. "Well, we best find out for ourselves." "Do you think they'll have kids my age?" She asked,

Scuttle shrugged. "Ah, what's to say?" He asked. "I only saw them coming to the harbor." "I hope so," Melody replied. "I'm hoping we can play with them and make new friends." "Well, you won't if you're just going to stand there all day, staring at them." Scuttle joked, before flapping his wings. "See you around, kid!" He called, before flying off.

"See you, Scuttle!" Melody called, waving him goodbye before preparing herself to meet the new guests.
