Chapter 44: River Boat
Katsuki blinked as his vision was fuzzy for a second, but as he cleared he saw a grey sky above him. As his vision cleared he felt himself rocking on a small row boat, rocking gently with the waves.
Katsuki rubbed his face as he sat up with a groan, "Where the fuck am I?"
"Do you always speak like that?"
Katsuki spun around to see a man sitting on the other end of the rowboat fishing. He was wearing an Amigasa, an old wide straw hat on his head hiding his facial features, with a white robe covering his body. He didn't look at Katsuki, he kept his attention on the water.
"Who are you?" asked Katsuki as he looked around, seeing nothing but water and fog surrounding the boat.
"Is that important?" asked the man.
"Uh no shit it is."
"You know if you keep talking like that, you'll never make any friends."
"Fuck you," said Katsuki in anger, "I have friends."
"And how's that working out for you?"
Katsuki opened his mouth to respond but stopped as he remembered everything he did to Izuku. "Goddamit." he said under his breath as he sat back in defeat.
"That bad, huh?" said the man, "You know being honest isn't a bad thing but that doesn't mean you can be an ass about it."
Katsuki gave the man a side eye glance, "The fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"I've seen you boy, you're loud, angry and absolutely don't give a shit about what people think. Trying to act like some dumbass bull, when in reality you care a lot about those around you."
"The fuck?" Katsuki eyed the old man, 'Who the fuck does this bastard think he is?' as Katsuki thoguht before realizing something, "What the fuck am I doing?" he asked as he stood up, "I got to get back and help Deku. I got a tournament to win and a bitch's ass to kick."
"Yes, you do have things you must do. First and foremost you have to move on from the path you are currently on," Katsuki looked at the man who had not looked over at him once, as the man kept his eye on his fishing rod. "Right now on the path you are on, your anger and rage will just push everyone away, though I suppose that's what you want, so you can justify your actions." Katsuki was now just getting pissed as some random man was trying to tell him how to live his life. "You wanted to show that boy how powerless he was, how useless he would be if he was ever in a fight, that he would never amount to becoming a hero, because if he tried to do that without any power he would be dead within a few days, that's if he made it to hero."
Katsuki growled, "I don't know who you are you creepy ass stalker and your fucking wrong, nothing I did was justifiable, I get that now. If I truly wanted to help him I would have helped keep him safe and protect him like a true hero, instead I hurt him like an asshole."
"Ahh yes you do get it but it needs to be a lesson engrained so it never is forgotten," said the man, "You can't let yourself be swept up in the storm of your anger, you need to calm and focus yourself, like a calm day breeze."
Several tick marks appeared on Katsuki's face as he glared at the man, "As calm as a day breeze?" he said feeling insulted, not noticing the wind picking up around him. "What the hell kind of have assed wisdom is that, what the fuck are you trying to do be some old wise ass fucker trying to impose his life lesson on to me."
The man gave a slight chuckle, "I guess I am. I was never to great giving planned speeches, the best ones I made were in the heat of the moment, when my anger took control. Though I regret some of those moments, so do you and I'm just trying to make sure your on a better path than me."
Katsuki blinked for a moment as he thought of the mans words. "What path did you walk on, are you some sort of hero?"
The man shook his head, "No, I did fight evil but I wouldn't call myself a hero. Now I'm just a man trying to make sure the current generations don't follow my mistakes."
"WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?" shouted Katsuki who was getting tired with this man beating around the bush. The man sighed before standing up, not letting go of his fishing pole, as he did his hate fell away and as he turned Katsuki saw something he wasn't expecting, "...what happened to you?"
The man in front of him was in his mid twenties with white spikey hair and a tone build of muscle that was clear to see has he wore an open shirt showing his chest, but that wasn't what caught the attention, what did was the amount of scars that covered the man's body and face.
The man gave Katsuki a soft smile. "These are a result of my reckless behaviour in my early days."
"What were you fighting?" asked Katsuki who was now calm and amazed at the man.
"An evil that tutored thousands," said the man as he looked down at his hand, "I spent quite a bit of my early years fighting to avenge my family and to protect the innocent so nothing like that would happen again." he then closed his hands and gave Katsuki a sad look, "Though I still failed, I lost friends, those who I would have considered family and ...my little brother."
Katsuki could practically feel the sadness and pain from the man, "I'm sorry." said Katsuki without even realizing he was giving his condolences.
The man gave a slight smile, "You know my brother fought along side me, or at least he tried to. I tried like hell to keep him away, I must have told him to fuck off a hundred times, told him he was useless and that he could never truly fight like the rest of us. Even tried to blind him with my own fingers to get him to not fight by our side." as he showed his right hand. "He still ended up fighting and dying along side a lot of us."
"We're not same," said Katsuki in a neutral tone, "I'm sorry for what happened to your brother, but De...Izuku can make his own choices he can take care of himself."
"And what of the others?" asked the man, "What of your classmates, or your new friends." Katsuki didn't respond. "You care about them, but you can't control your anger and it will push them away."
"I'm done here," as Katsuki turned to see if he could figure out where he was, or the direction of land he could jump to. "Where the fuck am I and how do I get back to UA."
"Katsuki Bakugo."
"SHUT UP," yelled Katsuki turning towards the man, "I get it already, i get I GET IT! What I did was wrong and I was a little shit, okay. I don't need to keep getting reminded for what I did and I sure as hell don't need everyone telling me how to live my life."
"Then why haven't you forgiven yourself?"
Bakugo looked at the man as if he was crazy, "What the hell are you talking about?"
He sighed, "Yushiro needs to get you guys a therapy session."
"YUSHIRO! Oh hell no, is this some sort of bullshit test or something? Izuku's ass better be in danger or so help me-"
"Izuku is fine, you're the one whose life is in trouble right now."
"Huh?"
The man took a step closer to Katsuki to look at him in the eyes. "You need to focus Katsuki and use your breath sparingly even when teleporting, travelling great distances can take time."
Katsuki raised an arm out and light a small spark, "Get out of my face." the man said nothing as he kept eye contact with Katsuki, "Who are you?"
"My name is Sanemi Shinazugawa and right now we are running out of time," then in a blinding speed Sanemi spun around in a full circle, using his fishing rod as a sword hit's Katsuki into the air, "Breath of Wind fourth form: Rising Dust storm."
"FUCKER!" yelled Katsuki as he backed flipped in the air and used two small blasts to steady himself in the air, but before he could counter or dodge Sanemi was in front of him, "Shit!" he said under his breath as he tried to move his arms at Sanemi to set up a blast put couldn't as he felt fishing wire wrap around his arms from behind keeping him from aiming at Sanemi. "Wha?" Sanemi then grabbed his shirt and slammed him back down in the boat, breaking it slightly causing a leak as water slowly filled the small boat. "You... bastard." he whizzed out. 'Did he knock the air out of me?"
"Listen to me Katsuki," begged Sanemi as he leaned forward down pinning Katsuki, "You don't want to live your life with regret, I have and it's bullshit. You all need to talk, you need to forgive yourself, you cannot die here today."
"Wha..." Katsuki couldn't finish as he tried to breathe but couldn't. 'He's not pressing that hard, how come I can't breathe?'
"Use the air you have," said Sanemi causing Katsuki to look at him in surprise, "As someone who uses the wind, we use every breath to the fullest, focus, Katsuki, you are more than just explosions, no sparks, focus."
Katsuki could feel the water starting to cover him as he sank. "What...are..."
"I wish we had more time, but if you don't focus and channel your quirk through your whole body, spread it out or you will die." said Sanemi as the water covered Katsuki.
Katsuki was now fully underwater as he tried to breathe but couldn't, 'What the hell is going on, I'm sinking.'
"Channel your anger, your pride, the drive to be number one. Control it, become the storm for battle but only for battle." Said Sanemi as he stood on the water looking down at Katsuki. "I believe in you my..."
Katsuki couldn't hear him anymore as the world around him started to turn dark before he slammed his eyes shut.
~o~
Katsuki opened his eyes to find himself underwater, 'What!' Thought Katsuki as he kept his mouth shut to keep what air he had, he tired to move but found his arms and body wrapped up in chains keeping him to the seafloor, 'Chains?' Katsuki's eyes then adjusted enough for him to see a skeleton floating next to him wearing everyday clothes. Katsuki then looked around and what he saw genuinely horrified him, skeletons upon skeletons were all chained up like he was. 'This...is a graveyard.' His horror quickly turned to anger as he realized who put them here, 'This is where that bitch Hibiki puts her victims to die.' as Katsuki vowed to find Hibiki after he escapes, but the lack of air quickly reminded him he was running out of time, 'Shit I need to move,' as he got ready to blast the chains, 'What if I go full blast, I'll destroy the chains but I would just push myself down and the shockwave might knock the air out of me, and there's no guarantee I can swim out afterwards, SHIT!' he yelled in his head before remembering what Sanemi had said. Katsuki closed his eyes and felt his quirk and pushed it. 'My quirk works my ignited my sweat into an explosion, no spark, focus on the quirk.' Katsuki felt his sweat as it pushed out of his body causing bubbles to appear on his arms and body. 'Focus, I don't have much air but I'll use what I have.' A bubble formed on his cheek before growing, along with the bubbles on the rest of his body. Katsuki then felt the chains loosen under his sweat as he quickly slipped out of the chains and opened his eyes as he focused his quirk down to his lower half. 'NOW!' as he ignited his bubble. He then felt a rush as he was launched through the water like a torpedo to the surface. He was able to break out to the surface and flew even higher, Katsuki inhaled as much air as he could. If it wasn't for the near death experience he would have thought he had a great view as he found himself in the middle of the ocean surrounded by water with the sun high in the sky.
Katsuki then proceeded to fall back down to the ocean, but this time he calmly swam to the surface and floated on his back as he looked up at the sky. "This day...is bullshit." he said to himself as he floated. He then heard the sound of an engine causing him to turn and see a speed boat coming towards him.
Katsuki adjusted himself up right as the boat got closer, he saw it was a red speed boat with two kids standing in the front of the boat, a boy and a girl, "Hey dad, there's a guy in the water." said the girl.
The boat turned slightly, allowing Katsuki to see the man driving the boat who he assumed was the children's dad, "Hey are you alright?" he asked.
Katsuki breathed for a moment as he thought of what to say, then eyed the kids and decided to go with something simple and clean, "It's been one heck of a day."
The man then held out a lifebuoy towards Katsuki to pull him up, "I'll say, you scared me and my kids half to death when we saw you jet up from the water."
"Sorry about that." said Katsuki as he grabbed the lifebuoy and climbed into the boat, slumping down onto the inside of the boat. "Thanks...Mr.."
"Shimano," said the man before turning to his kids, "Mahoro, Katsuma, get a towel and a life vest for the guests."
"My Katsuki, Katsuki Bakugo." as he looked around the boat and realized it wasn't a big sea vessel and saw in the distance an island. "Where am I?"
"You don't know where you are?" asked Mr. Shimano
"What are you, some kind of idiot?" asked the girl, causing a tick mark and a scowl appear on Katsuki's face.
"Mahoro!"
"Here you go." said Katsuma as he held out a towel for Katsuki.
Katsuki gratefully took the towel, "Thanks," and dried his face and head.
"To answer your question, we're a few knots east of Nabu island, south of mainland of Japan." explained Mr. Shimano.
Katsuki's eyes widened, "I got tossed all the way from Mustafar to here."
"From Mustafar!" as Mr. Shimano did the calculations thats over a thousand Kilometres away!"
"Whoa, you got tossed here," said Katsuma.
"How big was the guy that threw you?" asked Mahoro as she imagined a giant man the size of a skyscraper throwing Katsuki.
Katsuki gave the kids a deadpan look, "It wasn't like that." as he remembered how he got there and stood up looking at the water, "Hey does this boat have GPS or some way to come back to this exact location?"
Mr. Shimano was a bit put off by the question, but looked over at the dashboard of the boat, "Uh, yeah I have a GPS and it's tracking us now, you want me to save the coordinates?"
"Yeah," Katsuki then eyed the children before turning to their parent. "I..uh got dumped there on purpose," emphasising the words on purpose "by a villain so the authorities are going to need to know about it."
It took Mr. Shimano a second to get what Katsuki was saying and began to dread what was beneath them. "Uh right, I'll save the coordinates on the GPS and just in case I'll take a picture on my phone."
Due to the mention of the device, Katsuki tapped his pockets discovering his phone was gone, "Oh you've got to be..." he took a deep breath 'Focus, I'll make that bitch pay, but right now I need to find away back home.'
"Um," Katsuki turned to Katsuma who looked nervous but wanted to ask something, "So if you were fighting a villain are you a hero then?"
Katsuki smirked, "Yep, well I'm currently going to school at UA, but you're looking at the future number one hero."
"Really?" said Mahoro, looking at him sceptically.
"Cool." said Katsuma with stars in his eyes, "Hey do you know Demon Slayer?"
Katsuki's mind stopped for a moment due to his mind running todays events in his head, 'Izuku was being mind fucked by Hibiki when I left and then I was on that boat...what the fuck was that...and who the fuck was that guy and how did he know about my quirk?' Katsuki then looked at his hand focusing his quirk, as he did he felt a build up in his hand but unlike when he usually did this it felt different, like a thick gas. 'Whenever I used my quirk before I always focused on making the explosion as big as possible by making the spark as big as possible with as much fuel as possible focused on my hands, but in reverse, spreading it out.' Katsuki then set off a small spark causing a small reaction that caused his hand to produce a sudden gust of air from his hand.
"Whoa was that your quirk, an air blast?"
"Ack, why does it smell funny?" asked Mahoro as covered her nose and tried to wave the air away.
"Was that some sort of chemical reaction?" asked Mr. Shimano as he started up the boat.
"Huh?" blinked Katsuki before shaking his head, "Hey can I borrow your phone?" Mr. Shimano quickly unlocked and gave him his phone, "Also what did you mean by chemical reaction?" he asked as he started inputting his mother's number in the phone.
Mr. Shimona told his kids to sit as he started the boat, "That smell reminded me of an old science experiment that we did back in highschool, you know when the science teacher mixes two chemicals together to make weird reactions like change the colour or when it makes that weird combustion where it makes a small cloud that gave off a strange smell."
Katsuki knew what he was talking about as the images popped in his head, "Well that's something I got to look into." as he hit the button as he heard the ring, "Come on, come on pick up 'click' hey mo-"
"KATSUKI WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?" roared his mom over the phone causing everyone to jump and Mr. Shimano to swerve the boat slightly before quickly getting it under control. "WHAT THE HELL MAKES YOU THINK YOU AND IZUKU CAN JUST RUN OFF LIKE THAT?"
"What? Mom, what are you talking about?" asked Katsuki, confused.
"Oh don't you dare try to play ignorant young man." said Mitsuki in a pissed off tone. "We all know you and Izuku ran off to fight that villain calling for his blood."
Katsuki was now very confused, "The fu...So Izuku is fighting a villain right now?"
"Yeah it's all over the news and the jumbotron," said Mitsuki. "Did you get lost chasing after him?"
Katsuki was confused but had an idea how to get some answers, "Mom, go find one of the teachers and put them on the phone." Katsuki covered the phone with his hand with his mom continuing to yell, he looked at the kids, "Do either of you two have a cell phone to check the news?"
"We have a tablet," said Katsuma as he took out the tablet and opened the news app.
"We are live as a fight between Demon Slayer and a unidentified villain with a clay quirk are ducking it out in the middle of the city." said the news broadcaster as they showed Izuku dodging tendrils of clay slicing a few with his sword but what got Katsuki's attention was that he was still wearing his PE uniform. This fight started when this villain went on a rampage demanding Demon Slayer's head and the young hero ran all the way from the UA stadium to face the villain head on."
'How long was out?' wondered Katsuki as he then noticed Katsuma had even bigger stars in his eyes. "Uh yes?"
"You're wearing the same uniform as Demon Slayer, are you un the sports festival?" asked Katsuma before quickly cover his ears, "Wait no spoilers, we're recording it at home."
"It's a little late for that, Katsuma." said Mahoro giving her brother a deadpan look, before turning back to Katsuki, "We were going to watch it but dad was able to get the boat fixed before he had to return to the mainland for work."
Katsuki decided it would be best to return his attention back to his mom who was yelling his name over the phone, "Yes, mom I'm here, have you found a teacher yet?"
"Yeah, I just spoke with the cowboy hero Snipe, he ran off to get the principle, what kind of trouble did you cause before you left?"
"Hey this wasn't my idea," growled Katsuki.
"Mrs. Bakguo, is that really Katsuki you are speaking with?" came Principle Nezu's voice over the phone.
Mitsuki pressed a button on her phone changing the sound slightly, "Katsuki you're on speaker, behave."
A tick mark appeared on Katsuki's head as he felt his blood pressure rising, which wasn't anything new. "Are you kidding- you know what that doesn't matter, Nezu do you know where Hibiki is?"
"I'm afraid Hibiki is no longer here." informed Nezu, "That aside, where are you?"
"South of Japan, Nabu island."
"Nabu island?"
"Yeah I can thank Hibiki for that one and I fully intend to repay her for this," said Katsuki.
"Hold it," came Yushiro's voice over the phone, "Is that really Katsuki on the phone, his words and voice seem a little tame."
Mitsuki blinked, "Oh shit your right, I didn't realize it but this is the longest I think he's gone without cursing in his life." This statement causes those who were listening some concern while also making them curious on how a toddler Katsuki spoke back in the day.
For Katsuki though this just made more tic marks appear on his face as he contain his anger, he slowly put down the phone and looked at the kids, "Both of you cover your ears." The children frightened by his face did as he asked and covered their ears. Katsuki then took a deep breath, "LISTEN HERE YOU PALE FACED BASTARD! I'VE HAD TO DEAL WITH SHIT AFTER SHIT TODAY, NOT ONLY DEALING YOUR SHIT BUT THE ANNOYING EXTRAS AND TO TOP IT OFF ALL THE SHIT THAT BITCH HIBIKI DID MENTALLY FUCKING ME AND DEKU OVER SO YOU BETTER BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS BULLSHIT!"
By the end of his very loud rant the boat became silent as the children were pale and slightly frightened and their father was trying to make sure he wasn't deaf now. "Jeez kid, you could have given me a warning or something. I knew your language was going to be colourful but wasn't expecting the volume."
"Yeah, that's my Katsuki." said Mitsuki over the phone. "But wait, how the hell are you on an island."
"Not exactly on the island itself, Hibiki's pet dropped me in the middle of the ocean and I got picked up by a family who were taking their boat out for a spin. A that had kids so I was trying to be nice." explained Katsuki.
"Wow, actually trying to clean up your language for some kids you barely know, my boy is actually growing up." said Mitsuki, a little proud of her son. "I wonder what brought this on?"
"Oh shut up, it's been a long day, blame that Shinazugawa guy" said Katsuki ignoring the confused sounds from the other side of the phone, "Right now I need some heroes here asap to investigate the place I was brought to, also pick up back to the mainland, I owe Hibiki a good punch to the face."
"Katsuki what the fuck are you saying, none of my family are islanders." said Mitsuki.
Katsuki looked at the phone confused, "What?"
"Mrs. Bakugo what are you saying?" asked Yushiro his voice slightly cracking.
Katsuki then remembered something from his early childhood, "Mom...Sanemi Shinazugawa."
"Grandpa?" said Mitsuki confused.
"GRANDPA?!" Both Yushiro and Tomo yelped in surprise.
"Yeah my grandfather, Katsuki great grandfather Sanemi Shinazugawa the fifth." said Mitsuki. "Sanemi is kind of a common name in our family I even thought of naming Katsuki Sanemi but Sanemi Bakugo didn't have as good of a ring as Katsuki Bakugo."
Katsuki wasn't listening after the first half as he felt his world spinning, 'Was that guy my great grandfather? Then that boat...was I about to cross the river...was I actually about to die?' He felt his throat dry at the thought.
It took Katsuma poking his side to get him out his thoughts, "Are you okay?"
Katsuki smiled and patted the young boy's head, "Yeah I'm doing just fine."
"KATSUKI!" yelled his mom.
Katsuki rolled his eyes, "Except for that." as he went back to the phone call. "Yes mom?"
"Were you ignoring me, don't ignore me, Katsuki, I am your mother!" yelled Mitsuki only to earn another groan from her son, "Look they're sending Tomo to get you, and you better hurry up because if you or Izuku isn't back in time for your match you'll both FORFEIT!"
~o~
Shigaraki and the other members of the league of villains had been watching the tournament closely and one thing came to mind was that something seemed off, "I wonder who has been messing with the festival."
"Maybe a potential recruit?" suggested Rui
"I don't think so," said Kumori as she thought about it, "From what I can tell, villains nowadays would have made a big spectacle of the whole thing, this seems...small."
"Your right," said Kuran, "I would say this was personal as if the person behind it is trying to remain quiet."
"I second that," said Overhaul, "This isn't your common villain. This is organised, silent but I feel it was sudden."
Shigaraki was silent as he thought about it, "I think I get it, a plan was made but someone decided to Leroy the shit out of it and their party needed to adapt on the fly."
"Leroy?" asked Kumori, looking at the others.
"A famous idiot that rushed into battle unprepared." explained Chrono.
"Sounds like a dumbass." said Rappa causing everyone to give him a deadpan look.
"You have no room to talk."
"Whatever, I want them to hurry up with the fights." said Rappa, "The last few have been boring. I want to see more blood like the fight between the explosion brat and snow girl, that was awesome."
Before any of them could say anything, Twice kicked in the door behind them, "Hey guys I got some great news, one of the reincarnated villains came back to life and left us."
WHAT!?" yelled Shigaraki.
"How is that possible?" asked Kurogiri. "We Nomu guarding them."
"I know it's terrible all the Nomu guarding them are dead," explained Twice. "It was quite epic."
Shigaraki turned to the small tv in the room, "Sensei, I'm going to need to borrow some Nomu."
"Don't bother," said Rui, getting everyone's attention as he stood up, "We can handle it."
"Oh good," said Kumori, standing up with a stretch, "I need to stretch my legs." Kuran stood up as well but didn't move, "Kuran?"
"Someone else is here?" said the large man.
"Kikikiki." came an odd laughter as a small circle appeared behind Twice, "Sorry, I was just too curious and followed this one." As a man with three small horns on his head appeared out of the hole, he wore a black shirt with a black pants, dark jeans with a chain on one side with dark biker boots on his feet. His bright red eyes landed on Shigaraki, "So you must be the one who ordered my revival, you have my thanks."
Shigaraki looked at the man, "Well it didn't hurt to have another person with a portal ability, so you got a name."
"The name I went by when I was alive last was Numaraki, but you call me Numa for short." said Numa with a small courteous bow, "Please allow me to be the one to return the runaway demon."
Shigaraki thought about it for a moment before glancing at Overhaul, "Hey you mind if we borrow Chronostasis for a while?" Overhaul glanced at Chrono who nodded that he didn't mind. "Excellent, his quirk will help." Before pointing at Numa, "Numa you will take Chronostasis here along with the spider family to retrieve our runaway, be quick and silent about it."
"Of course." said Numa as expanded his portal for the others, "We will not fail you, master."
"Hey brown nose," said Kurogiri, getting his attention in a condescending tone. "How do you plan on tracking the guy?"
Kumori smirked, "Oh is our other portal man jealous now that he isn't the only one we have." Kurogiri ignored the comment.
"Don't worry we can help with that." Came a small voice behind Numa as a figure appeared in the doorway.
"Are you sure you want to come along?" asked Rui.
"Yes, we will help you...brother."
