Chapter 3, Finding The Vault
The day of the match came and Skye's bribery worked, and one of the Ravenclaws let them into the barren common room.
"What did you offer him?" Godwin asked as they looked around the Ravenclaw common room for the first time.
"A dragon's share of autographs from my father, now I go and check rath stuff and you look around here" Skye ordered Godwin search thoroughly and quietly as he could. Until Skye returned from the girl drom throwing rath stuff all over the common room, Godwin stare blankly for a few second stunned
"Well she's going to know we're here" he said with a chuckle.
"I didn't find the broom but I found a couple of broom bristles near Rath's bed, anyway that will teach her to mess with us" Skye pointed her wand towards one at the chairs "flipendo!" The red flashed knocked the seat onto its sides. then she knocked down a few more seats, table and a shelf"
"What are you doing?" Godwin asked as he walked over to her.
"Im pissed off, all that work to get your broom and that cow steals it, why ain't you mad"
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't bothered but, with all the stuff that happened to me over the years, this kind of pale in comparison. We should get moving they could be a few people around and I don't wanna get caught in here with the room like this" the pair of them fled the room and news of the trashing of rath stuff and ravenclaw common room spread across the school alongside the other rumor that Rath stole Godwin broom, something he brought up with Skye when they met within the next day great hall.
"Oh, thats awesome, I was the person who started that Rath stealing your broom rumor" said skye
"What?, why?" he asked
"Well even if we can't prove it the least we can do is let the entire of Hogwarts know what she did" he absent mindedly agree, but what if she didn't do it but then again this was Rath, she could have taken penny head off with hat bulger she hit towards them, a few moments later there team captain Orion walked over to them and sat opposite them
"I've heard a rumor about Rath stealing one of our brooms?, is that true?" There Captain Orion asked.
"Yes!" Skye said and summed up what had happened.
"So under the immediate assumption that rath stole the broom who found a way into ravenclaw common room made a mess of the place with the only poof you found being a couple of broom bristles, Skye you need to chill out man take a step back and think." scolded Orion
"No, because my instinct told me it was her!"
"Well why didn't you find anything then?" Orion said with a raised eyebrow.
"Well she could have done anything with it, she could have transfigured it into a cauldron or something" she said with a shrug of her shoulders.
"Maybe but your only reasoning is you know she took it, listen I'm the captain here so I'll have no more action against Rath until we know for sure" Orion insisted.
"Oh yeah, what's your solution for where it went then!" Skye yelled as she folded her arms the captain however seemed unfazed
"Skye, your too intense, take a step back relax and maybe an idea will come to us"
"Uh you're kidding you're impossible to deal with, how is that going to do anything" before Orion could say a word however Rath came over with a pair of ravenclaws, Skye eyes lit up with the sudden urge to fight.
"Stay seated Skye, you'll only make things worse" Orion said as he stood up and sid across the table to face Rath. "Rath, is there something you wanted?" Orion asked, turning his attention to her, Rath however had no words she pushed him, with so much force he fell back landing upon the table.
Skye jumped to her feet ready for action and rushed her. Rath picked Skye up and slammed her onto the Slytherin table.
"Get off Skye you Witch" Godwin demanded, as he withdrew his wand and pointed it towards Rath.
Rath's teammates pointed their wands toward him "lower your wand Slytherin" One of them demanded
"Lower your wands, then I'll get him to lower his" Orion said as he staggered back up to his feet, his wand pointed towards them.
"You all will drop your wands now" barked Flitwick.
"But sir they…" rath try to reason with him, but Filtwick wouldn't hear it
"All of you can explain yourself to the headmaster" Flitwick took all six of them to Dumbledore's office with Godwin, Orion, Skye and Rath groupe both giving their side of the story, Rath Apparently getting paid back for her stuff and the rumors.
Upon hearing this dumbledore asked Flitwick to bring madam hooch, then his gaze turned to skye,
"Skye you seemed to have been the cause of all this, It's good that you care so much about your friends but I would advise you don't jump so quick to conclusions and I would remind you and Rath here that reeking revenge rarely turns out well for anyone, I would encourage all of you to take your problems to the other teachers or me, if you had done this from the start all of this could have been avolded." Dumbledore said calmly.
Eventually Madam Hooch joined them and he asked her about any missing brooms that had been turned in.
"Yes hagrid has recently turned it in a comet 260, which had been torn up by one of his creatures" Hooch said, Dumbledore smiled and turned his attention to them.
"Which I believe is the broom in question, I'm sorry to say Godwin you'll have to get a new broom, I'm sure Snape would be willing to help you find a replacement. He may be hard on you Godwin but I think would love nothing more than to make his quidditch team stronger. Now I think we're all learnt a lesson here. Rath and Skye shake hands and apologize to each other and we can all drop the matter" Skye and Rath shook hands and apologized to each other. However the anger filled looks they shot each other in the process of this could kill.
Upon leaving the headmaster's office, Godwin, Orion and Skye went the opposite way to Rath and her friends and went to the dungeons to find Snape who agreed to supply the necessary equipment; Despite his hate for Godwin.
When he returned to the great hall, he was approached by Andre, a student from his year, who was black with dark hair.
"Hey, I heard what happened, ravenclaws are saying you and Skye are acting like bullies and the Slytherins are saying Ravenclaws stole your broom and provoked you and I don't listen to rumors so, what happened?"
"Well, it was a misunderstanding that got out of hand, my friend skye assume Rath stole it, too be honest and I hate rath so went along with that"
"Um that make sease, Rath is not quite a cup of tea, so is skye the one who trash our common room then?""
"Yeah, she an alright girl but her temper got out of hand, she cares about that broom""
"Right well, we're good, I try to explain that to my friends, can't say they will be happy with Skye tho… Oh yeah did you hear I made the ravenclaw team, me, you and charlie are going domante quidditch"
"Hey congrats lets go and see charlie and keep out of our houses way" the pair of them shook hands and talked about their teams with charlie.
Godwin's lesson with Mcgonagall had been going well and he had learnt the spell they needed and he decided they should scout out the fake wall and tunnel before they gathered up any allies to help them break into the vaults.
The pair of them met up the same as last time using their cloaks, and once again finch's cat got hit with the Petrificus Totalus, removing their cloaks they made their way over to the fake wall.
"Revealio" with a wave of his wand, the wall disappeared and before him was a staircase covered in mist the same staircase Godwin had seen from his vision.
"This is it, it has to be, this is what I saw in my vision!" he said, taking a few steps towards the staircase.
"Wait, Godwin, what about the creature you saw in the vision, I don't feel like battling a dragon" Rowan said.
"Yes but that translation you found said the ice knight stays guard of the vanishing staircase and it should be too hard to battle a knight, we have wands and I have my sword" he said, dangling the bag he had with him.
"Alright, then but what so special about the bag" Rowen said, giving in.
"Well if there is a knight up there you'll find out, but it's kind of a secret '' but before heading off he used reparifarge to restore the wall.
The pair of them made their way up the staircase and found their way to a huge corridor, the floor was patterned with black, red and whilte marble flooring. While brazzers upon columns lit up the room automatically upon their entry into the hall. The pair of them walked forward towards the wall of ice at the far end of the hall. the air around them was getting colder and colder the closer they got. When they went up the steps before the door they saw that there seemed to be no visible way to open the great ice door, "Alohomora" Godwin said, pointing his wand to the door but nothing happened.
"Maybe you push it open?" Rowan said and stepped for and put one hand upon the door, then a beam shot out from the door, sending rowen flying a few meters away and onto the floor below, Godwin jumped back and dodge the second beam fire towards him.
"Rowen, you ok?!" he called out as he back away from the door, but Rowan wasn't responding, rolled out the way of the third beam.
He dropping his wand, he reached into the bag pulling out the sword and draw it the sword from his sabbered, holding the scabbed with his free arm. He waited there but nothing happened. Slowly a wall of ice began crawling its way up in front of the door and no more ice beams where fired.
Putting his sword back, he grabbed Rowan and dragged him back as the wall of ice had finished forming. Kneelting down next to Rowan and checked Rowan breathing, and sigh with relief when he discovered he was alive.
"Next time I need to tie the scabbard to my uniform…I'm an idiot," he muttered to himself, then looked up to the wall of ice once more. "Safe so far, what to do with you, I don't want to get caught if people see you with me like this there are going to be too many questions. But I can't leave him here" he double checked Rowan's health, making sure he was breathing and well and then took him out corridoor and left him.
"Sorry Rowan" he whispered, then he put on the cloak and undid the spell on the cat and left in the hopes that someone would find Rowan soon. Then the next day he visited Rowan in the hospital after getting past Madam Pomfrey.
"Hey Rowan, sorry about last night" he said as he appeared next to bedside
"I understand, it's better that one of us gets in trouble then both. Dumbledore came and he asked about you a number of times I told them I was attacked by a unknown students, but they don't seem to believe me"
"Thank you for that Rowan, I promise to make this up to you"
"You can. I have a request"
"Anything"
"I want to take a backstep on the adventure side of things, I've never been a powerful wizard when it comes to charms and defense against the dark arts, I'll help you with the research and breaking codes, but I'm not a fighter"
"If that want you want to do Rowan, that alright with me"
"I'm sorry I wish I was more useful"
"Rowan it's fine we all have to play to our strengths, I would never gotten this far without you." Godwin promised to bring back any and all homework back to him at the end of the day.
Soon It was Halloween Morning and, deciding to take a break from the training and his search for the vaults. After finshing breakfast in Slytherin common room and check the nearby courtyard, Ben walked over to him.
"Hey Godwin, you hear the latest rumors"
"No I don't pay much attention, you never know fact from fiction"
"You'll want to hear this one, there rumors that there been a werewolf attack on a student"
"Werewolf attack!, on who?"
"No idea but it was a student near the forbidden forest" Godwin went through his friends and there weren't many who would be caught going near or in there. If there was anyone who would know about this it would be Penny, gossiping was her hobby.
"Right, I'll look into it"
"Hey if you wanna go and fight that thing I want in" Godwins found himself stun, he was unsure what had happen to bed but ever since his disappearance he was totally new man, the idea that he was being control by this R person returned to him, but he still had no proof and there was bigger thing to focus on.
"Yeah, let I would like to see if there is any truth behind this first" Godwin left Ben and went on in search of Penny and eventually found her near the great hall with another Hufflepuff student Chiara who he knew from class.
"Hey penny, I need to talk to you about a rumor that's been going around?" he said, patting on the back as he joined them.
"No snapes, not going bald" she said with a giggle.
"What?, people will believe anything, no not that one, the one about the werewolf attack" he said.
"Oh that one, i'm not sure, it kinda came out of nowhere this morning" the silver haired girl chiara almost jumped when she heard the news however.
"A werewolf attack, last night are you sure?" chiara said her skin fair turning pale.
"Yes or at least thats what ben told me" Godwin said.
"Um, you could try and asked madam pomfrey, if anyone was attacked, she would know" penny said
"No way she would give information like that away. I help her out now and then in the hospital wing, so… umm, maybe if we could drastred her, I could gain access to the files cabinet," chiara said.
"Um, I have an idea, if you give me the morning I could craft something that could make Godwin sick enough for her to believe him and keep her attention drawn to him.
"I like how I'm the test subject," Godwin said with a smile.
"Well better you than me" Penny said with a giggled.
Godwin went off and rejoined Penny outside of Hufflepuff common room around about lunch time and Penny gave Godwin the potion when they were alone in a corridor.
"Your going to drink this, will give you temporary symptoms, where take you to madam pomfrey and while she is working out what you got and giving you the cure for it, Chiara can go through the filing cabinet.
"Alright pass the potion over, can't be worse then my uncle cooking" she past over the potion and after taking one look and a sniff of the potion, he felt like throwing up, and after a three second pause, drank down the potion in one go, his face twisting into looks of disgust as he did so. He spluttered into sudden coughing as the potion began to take effect and the girls took him to the hospital wing.
The potion worked like a charm, madam pomfrey took him right over to one of her beds as Penny played the role of concerned friend. It took Madam a minute or so to work out the illness, and went off to find the cure, by which time Chiara had been in and out of the cabinet and once he was cured, the pair of them met Chiara outside of the hospital wing.
"It was a third year, Gyffindor, called Lisa Scarlet, who was attacked, she was treated for deep gashes across her arms" after Chiara had informed them of this they spent some time trying to track the student down, eventually finding her as she made her way out of charm class.
"Excuse me, are you Lisa Scarlet?" Penny asked when the three of them came over to her.
"Yeah, why, what do you want?" Penny seemed to hasate on what to say next, Godwin however had planned out what he was going to say during the search.
"Were helping the staff looking into the werewolf attack and asking you a few questions about what happened?" The lie seems to work, the Gryffindor looks around nervously upon hearing this.
"Um, well, this is awkward but I'm not too sure, what it was, it all happened so fast" explained the Gryffindor as she began to play with her hair.
"What did it look like?" penny asked
"Um, it was a huge white furred beast, that's all I can remember, my memory is fuzzy"
"White fur…'' Chiara said with a shaky voice, something sounded off with her, Godwin turned around to see her She run off towards the door.
"Chiara, come back!" Penny cried out, but it was too late Chiara had already ran out of the class. Godwin stared blankly at the door she ran throught wondering what had gone into her, Penny turned back to the Gryffindor.
"Are you certain? You said your memory was fuzzy!" Penny asked, her voice raised as she took a more serious tone, Godwin didn't often hear from her.
"Maybe?" said the Gryffindor student as her voice broke into a more high pitched tone.
"Well, there's one way to find out, I'll use a memory charm" Penny said, withdrawing her wand.
"Wait no, I lied, it was a hippogriff, I wanted to touch it but I did something wrong and it attacked me. I just said it was a werewolf to sound cool, I never thought my little lie would get this out of hand." Penny sighs and puts away her wand.
"All this madness for no reason, and poor chiara, she must be terrified of werewolfs to react like that" Penny said "Maybe you'll think twice before spreading rumours like that!" Penny said to the Gryffindor sternly
"Lets go and look for her, shall we go together or split up?" asked Godwin.
"Yes, thank you Godwin, um, let's split up, she likes to be alone when she is upset, so keep that in mind"
