Disclaimer: I own nothing, it al belongs to the genius of Watsuki-sama.
Author's Note: This is a birthday story for my younger sister Holly-Sama. Today is her birthday and because she loves Enishi, I wrote this tribute for her. Read and Review if you like but Flames will be ignored! Thanks!
Our Enishis
He was cruel, an insane genius with no morals or conscious. But something about his cruelty, his insanity, drew us towards him. We watched, morbidly fascinated, as his Jinchuu was revealed, tearing the world of Our Kenshins apart.
But even then we could not hate him, even when he threw Our Rurounis into the depths of a living hell we could not despise him.
Because we knew his story, we knew what drove him onwards.
His was a tragic story of love, treachery and revenge. He loved his sister almost to the point of obsession, he was betrayed by the men who promised to help him and he was forced to see his sister's death. And he had sworn revenge on her killer.
He was thrown into a hell but he survived. At a young age his hands were stained with the blood of an innocent couple who had tried to help him, all because he could not bear to see their happiness.
He became powerful; the leader of the Chinese mafia, but power was not what drove him. The sight of Our Tomoes smile, hearing her voice begging for revenge was what drove him onward.
And through all of this we watched, horrified but amazed. We wanted to see what happened next, we wanted to see how his revenge would unfold. It would be something cruel, that much we knew.
But the true cruelty shocked us when we saw it. The image of Our Kaorus, even if it was only a doll, pinned to a wall by his sword would be a sight that would forever haunt our minds.
But alone on an island with Our Kaorus we began to learn more about Our Enishis. And even though we knew in the end Our Kenshins would come to save Our Kaorus, we still cheered for Our Enishis.
And after the battle, after he realized how much pain he had caused his beloved sister; we left him alone in a village of the damned with only Our Tomoes diary for company.
But that was not the end.
We left him there for a time, reading her words and searching his soul for the truth he needed to find but after a while we knew it was time for him to live again.
We took him out of the village and showed him a different road. Often we made him a rurouni, searching for answers like Our Kenshins and Our Setas had already done.
We did our best to give him a new happiness, replacing the old.
We gave him love, hoping that it would help mend his shattered life, pairing him with Our Kaorus, Our Misaos and our original characters.
We gave friends and we also gave him enemies. We took him into other dimensions, making him a criminal, a police officer, a spy.
Sometimes we made him a hero, a warm, caring man beneath his insanity but other times we made him a villain, an abusive husband or boyfriend, a stalker…and many other faces.
We laughed at him, making him the butt of our jokes and the fool in our stories and drawings. We were amused by the fact that he heard Our Tomoes voice in his head and we were quick to portray him as hen pecked, obedient to his sister's every whim, no matter how strange.
But no matter what we did to him we couldn't help but admire him. In the end he wasn't evil; he wasn't a heartless villain, he was just man driven by an obsession. An obsession that almost destroyed him and ultimately saved him.
And maybe he'll be cursed to forever wander, lost and hopeless or maybe somewhere; somehow, he'll find a new type of happiness. That's up for him to decide.
But no matter what happens, no matter where he takes us, we'll continue to follow him, fascinated until the end.
