"Hapu, I really appreciate it that you let me stay at your house for a bit!"
"No problem, as long as you help around the farm I'll let you stay."
Xiangling grabbed hold of a tail, and pulled on it. Out came a white radish, long and ripe. She placed it aside with the rest of the harvests, and wiped her forehead. "Say, may I have some of these?" She turned to Hapu, the woman's Mudsdale planting radish seeds in the open ground.
"Hmph? You want to borrow some of my radishes?" She asked.
"Of course! I've been collecting ingredients around Alola, making all sorts of dishes! And I have never used radishes such like these before, I wonder if they taste different than the ones back at my home?" She explained.
Hapu looked at the baskets full of today's harvest. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to give just two or one. She grabbed one and handed it over to Xiangling. "Here you go ma'ma." She said to the girl.
The girl smiled, her mouth drooling at the sight of it. "Thank you thank you!" She exclaimed with joy, jumping up and down. "I will always remember this gift from you, Hapu!" She said.
"It's just radishes. Nothing much really." The woman shrugged her shoulders.
"No no! This is great really! Can I make you dinner right now?"
"Dinner? Sure I suppose."
Xiangling smiled, before opening up her bag. It was full to the max, filled with several berries and others Hapu couldn't recognize. She grabbed one of them, a green plant like.
"What's this?" She asked the chef, leaning the item closer to her. When she did, she was hit by a bitter yet fragrant smell. She backed it away from her nose, and let out a coughing fit.
"That's a Lotus Head! It's used as a ingredient for foods, but it has a bitter and fragrant smell." She explained.
"I...see..." The woman softly said.
The chef laid out the ingredients on a small blanket on the ground. A Tamato, Cheri, Leppa, and Pomeg Berries were there. Hapu looked at her with a surprising look. "You travel a lot?" She asked.
"Hmph! I've been around nearly all of Alola!" She answered, scooping up the blanket and tying it up to ensure the berries wouldn't slip out. "Is there a cook pot here?" She said, looking left and right.
"There's one in my house."
Xiangling closed the door after Hapu walked inside. In her hands, was the blue blanket carrying the ingredients. She looked around the house, eventually spotting a pot in the kitchen. She smiled, before walking over and placing the blanket, untying it.
"Say, you're going to make a spicy dish aren't you?" Hapu asked, washing the radish's dirt off.
"I thought that was obvious? I'm practically a master at making spicy foods!" She giggled, grabbing a Tamato berry and cutting open the top with a knife.
"...All of those berries don't mix well together. You should stick to only one." She said, still washing those radishes.
"Is that a challenge..?" The chef turned to her, raising her eyebrows. Then, she immediately turned back and her cutting increased dramatically.
Every second, there was the sound of a knife chopping down on the cutting board. The woman looked back at her, the chef placing the ingredients and the unknown ones into the cook pot. The water was at a boil, Xiangling must have put water in while she was chopping up the ingredients.
The chef had a huge smile on her face, her mouth drooling while her eyes sparkled with such joy. Hapu had never seen a chef like this before.
A smell started to arise, coming from the pot. She caught a sniff of the smell, and for a second, her life flashed before her eyes. "UGH! THAT SMELL IS-" She covered her nose, dropping down to the ground.
"So good..." Xiangling was so amazed by it, clasping her hands.
"...You shouldn't eat that." Hapu said, her eyes looking over to the pot. The girl just shook her head, as she mumbled something to herself. She grabbed a bowl and poured in the soup. Grabbing a soup, she scooped it in and put it in her mouth.
Hapu was so prepared to call the ambulance, but to her surprise, Xiangling was alive. Her eyes gleamed, with such joy, and she turned to Hapu. "YOU GOT TO TRY THIS! ONCE I GET BACK, I'LL MAKE THIS A NEW MENU ITEM AT THE SHOP!" The girl went on and on, giving the bowl to Hapu.
The woman stood up, holding the bowl and spoon. She started to sweat, fearing the worst to happen. If the smell got to her, would the food be even worse? She gulped, and took a bite. Nothing happened to her. But the flavor, the texture, the softness, she had never experienced any wonderful food like this before. But it feels a bit nostalgia to her. Only one person comes to mind, her grandfather. "Grandfather..." She cried a bit, tears falling down from her eyes.
"Oh, was it too spicy for you?"
She looked at the girl, shaking her hand while wiping away the tears. "Not at all...It's amazing. You mind if I give you a hand in making more?"
Xiangling gave a small smile. "Of course you can! But do you want a towel first, I can give it to you?" She asked her.
"Fine, please give me a towel. What food do you have in mind of making anyways?" She said, standing up and dusting off her clothes.
"Oh well you see I have collected a bunch of ingredients from Alola! So the possibilities are endless! I should try making different combinations besides spicy food! Oh maybe even try making Alola's foods!" She just kept on going and going, explaining. But then, she turned to face the window then back at Hapu. "Hey, did you just get a feeling it's going to rain?" She asked.
"Rain? The clouds aren't even dark." She said, opening the door to see the outside. She was correct, it was sunny bright outside and no cloud was dark.
"...If you say so, I just got the feeling it may rain." Xiangling just shrugged her shoulders, putting away the soup in small containers. "But! Let's get working now!"
