The Soul of a Hero
Chapter 6
Now the meisters are getting involved with the hero world a bit more. While also warning the heroes themselves about the witches that have landed in their world. I'll also be showing a bit of the battles I skipped/side stepped last chapter. Like Johari's tracking, and Melissa's use of Eldora. So on with the show.
(Ojiro POV)
Oh man! What else could happen today!? Crazy enough that a bunch of villains showed up, but now I've been warped to the….. Conflagration zone? I think it's called. Crap another one!
Make that two. But luckily, they go down pretty easy. Bet they weren't expecting the student would be quite this capable. If they did, they might have stuck me somewhere where I couldn't take advantage of the terrain.
Fire in the buildings or not, the lampposts don't have flames on them. So I can use that and the alley ways to keep sneak attacking them. But man it's hot in here! Not surprising, but still and….. wait. Something's up.
The flames coming from the buildings. They're moving! But how? Why? "Hey you over by that building! Don't move! This could get messy!" I hear from the probable entrance to the zone.
And messy it was. Suddenly a massive disk of fire is flying through the streets and….. its either burning/slicing through some of the villains. Or it just slightly burns and strikes them. Knocking them out.
When the voice yells to come out, I'm surprised to see a young woman. She has blonde hair and blue eyes, like All Might. Though the smile is quite different and she's wearing glasses. And a get up that makes me think of workout clothing.
The next surprise though comes from that fire disk. It returns and the girl catches it on her arm. With the flames extinguishing and the disk taking the shape of a round shield. A very ornate shield at that.
"Who are you miss?" I ask while she walks over to….. the floating orb things that appeared above the villains that were burned to death or cut down. She grabs them and puts them close to the shield and they seem to disappear into it. Somehow.
The girl looks back at me and says, "my name's Melissa Shield. Uncle Might called my teacher and asked that he help with this incident." Okay, what?! She's All Might's niece?! Oh wait! Now I remember.
Shield is the name of one of the biggest Support engineers. And he was All Might's partner when he was studying in the US. Guess this is his daughter. But I still don't get how she did all of that.
"We should get out of here. I've collected all the souls and if what I'm sensing is right, then the bigger battle is done." She said before signaling me to stay behind her. It feels a bit weird to be protected by a girl, but she does have the weapon for it.
(Koda POV)
"Duck now Koda-san!" Tokoyami shouts as a few of the thugs I had chasing me get slammed by his quirk. Luckily, they seem to think this should be easy and underestimated me and him. But there are still so many.
We regroup again, but more show up and surround us. Right as one is turning her arms into spiked clubs, her head is separated from her body. It then collapses and turns into… a little ball of light?
Before I or anyone else can question this more, four more villains are cut down. In one way shape or form. A pair then catch whatever it was that was attacking them. And its…. A strange looking knife of some kind? It's got multiple blades coming from it and it looks like it still wants to spin but can't.
Right as Tokoyami is asking what that thing was a new voice rings out. "Guess I should have put more into our resonance. But no matter. A few of you are already dead." I hear two strangled cries behind me. And the pair that had stopped the knife were now dead.
By the hands of a dark-skinned girl with short, cornrowed hair. One had his neck snapped, and the other she was next to and had a fist at his heart. The second flopped back before turning into a ball of light. Followed by the first.
She then whistles and the knife flies back right to her hand. She then glares at the villains gathered and mutters something to the knife. Wait. Why is she talking to her weapon? Maybe it's like a ritual thing? Like Shiozaki-san and her prayers?
"Um excuse me. But who are you and-" Tokoyami starts to ask before the girl cocks her arm back and throws the knife again. It slices through a few villains, but also knocks out a few others.
Even those who avoid the attack soon find themselves cut in various ways. From some….. wind blades… okay this is strange. But the girl is not just letting her weapon do all the work. While some of the villains are distracted, she sneaks up and disables or kills some others with her bare hands.
I'm not sure who or what she is or why she seems so comfortable about killing, (especially since I'm ready to vomit from all the blood and some of the brutal ways some have been killed) but she is saving us, I guess. So that's something.
Once the carnage is passed, about half of the villains are dead. The others are unconscious from the weapon, the girl, and Tokoyami snapping out of his stupor to help her. "That was impressive, but I have to question why you were so comfortable about killing." Tokoyami asks as the girl reclaims her knife.
She walks over to the ball things before speaking up. "It's part of what I was trained for. Besides, these ones don't deserve a lot of sympathy. Their crimes are great and long." The way she said that and the look in her eyes makes me nervous.
But Tokoyami seems more curious. He then asks her name and why she was helping us. "Johari. Johari Bayana. We were asked to come here and save as many of you as we could. Not to mention it was a good way to take out a bunch of the people of Lord Death's list."
Okay that has me worried and unsettled. Tokoyami though seems intrigued and asks who this Lord Death was. But Bayana just said we didn't have time. "There's a few others who need help. And I don't think they can really stop or defeat the ones who have them trapped. But we can."
I have no idea why she gestured with that knife she was carrying, but I'm willing to go along for now. We leave the squall zone and I see some of what she meant. Shiozaki, Mineta, and Asui are all trapped on a ship in the flood zone.
"How do we get them out?" Tokoyami asks while looking over the situation. Bayana stands and says, "We don't. We take care of what is surrounding them. Ready Muwali?" I hear a "yeah" as she holds up her knife and I swear I can see a boy reflected on the blade.
There seems to be an energy flowing around her as a bit of dust is kicked up. She rotates the arm holding her weapon around and….. okay now there's some kind of energy string attached? What the heck is going on?!
Right as Tokoyami is about to ask the same question, she lets go of the string and the weapon spins toward the water. It lands but doesn't seem to be slowing down. In fact…. Is the water rotating? And now it's becoming some kind of whirlpool?!
I'm about to ask again what was going on, when I notice the water turning red. "Are you? *gulp* killing the villains in the water?" I ask with a shiver. Her grey eyes look down at me for a moment before focusing back on the water.
"Only those who deserve it." Bayana says as a few of the villains run out of the pool in a panic. "You can come off of there now. The ones who'd be more likely to kill you are dead." The girl says before pulling on the energy string I didn't know was still there.
Who is this girl? And how is she doing all of this? Maybe that question will be answered once we all get out of here.
(Momo POV)
Now what? Kaminari's short circuited, a few of the other villains are shaking off the attacks and shocks from earlier. "Well? What's it gonna be? You willing to stand down? Or do I make a mess of this kid's head?" the villain taunts while gripping Kaminari's head.
I don't know what to do. I may have studied quite a bit to become a great hero, but I was never good with these types of situations. Not to mention, even a staged one doesn't compare to the real fear like I feel now.
"Huh? What's that?" Jiro asks while looking around. When I ask what was wrong, she only says she hears something odd. "Enough talk! Drop the weapons or *shick!*. Huh?!" Right as the villain was telling us to give up again, someone new came out of nowhere. And cut the man's head off.
He's wearing a dark sleeveless shirt, hakama like shorts, red tennis shoes and a green scarf around his neck. Accented by silver crescent moons along the length. In his right hand is the katana he used to cut the man down. And in his right is a pistol.
"Wait. You're the one who the heroes were chasing after a few days ago!" I exclaim as I see his green eyes look over all of us. Its slightly unsettling. Like he's peering deep into us while he's looking over the battlefield.
He then aims his gun and me, and I'm sure he's about to gun me down. "Duck now!" he shouts, and I comply. And he fires right into the villain that was leaping behind me. Putting a hole through the woman's heart.
"Get this knucklehead out of here. We'll take care of these ones." The green haired boy says as a few of the villains stir. "So you can just kill villain here!?" I ask in a panic. But the boy surprises me with a shake of his head. "Only those who are on Lord Death's list. And not all of these people are. Now go!"
Right as he finishes speaking, he rushes at a few of the recovering villains. Knocking quite a few out but killing others. I don't know who he is, but for the moment he does seem to be on our side.
(No POV)
"What the Hell is going on here? Isn't that the guy who fought All Might a while back? Yeah and that's the kid who was being chase by him and two other top ten heroes. Whoa wait a minute! That older blonde girl. That's Melissa Shield! What's she doing with those two? Who're the two dark skinned kids?"
The police mutter and question this as the miesters were being escorted out of the USJ. With All Might's police friend, Tsukauchi Naomasa stepping forward to ask for details. "We can't get into all things right now my friend. Lets just say things are more complicated than they appear."
This isn't enough to placate the man, but Principal Nezu speaks up next and tells the man he can come to the teacher's lounge if he had questions. "I'd very much like to know some of the details pertaining to these people as well. Especially given two were involved in incidents with heroes. And the other is a major support engineer that somehow is associated with them."
Star just rolls his eyes as the heroes surround them and they load up on a bus to UA. While the students were told to go back to their classroom, a few couldn't help but be curious. Namely; Bakugo, Kirishima, Momo, Koda, Tokoyami, Shiozaki, and Ojiro.
They listened in at the door to the faculty office, with Momo creating a camera and screen to view things on. And while the teachers had no clue, half of the meisters and weapons could tell right away.
"Now then. All Might. I'd like to know who these people are and why you felt it better to call them in." Nezu says with a sip of tea. The number one was obscured from the camera, but they could still make out his more relaxed voice. "I'm not sure I'm the best to give you all the details. Given it's a bit of an involved story. But as for why I called them, I had a bit of a bad feeling and much as I hate to admit it….. I felt I could trust Star here."
The hero defends himself by noting that when Jon saw his other state (a statement which confused the students listening) he didn't look to take him out. Or to exploit him for anything. "Even though now they are bunking at my home. *Cough* Jon came up with the idea to pass off what happened to keep the peace and left it at that."
Nezu nods and can see the sense and reason behind it. With Present Mic noting that Aizawa would see it as a logical and rational decision. "But that still don't answer what they all are. So why don't y'all fill us in." Snipe says with suspicion laced in his voice. Midnight meanwhile was looking over both elders with an appraising eye. Especially toward Jon and his cold looks. While also wondering about the fun to be had with Ming herself.
Each of the meisters share a look before Jon shrugs and walks over to the window. He fogs it up before writing 42-42-564. And when he's done, the writing disappears and a ripple passes around it.
"Jon? Ming? Hello? Ah good. We're getting better at bridging the gaps between dimensions. Ah I see you are with some of the "heroes" of this world. I take it you couldn't get away without complications." Lord Death says while being flanked by his two weapons.
Jon shakes his head before saying, "unfortunately not Lord Death. What's more some of the worst on your list got away." The reaper gives a nod and an "I see" before a new set of figures step into the room.
One of them being an old woman with bandages over her eyes and old tattered black clothes. The second is a woman with fox like hair and markings on her face. A pair walking behind them was the DWMA meister Angela Leon and her guardian Mifune.
Seeing a few of them though infuriates Jon as his soul wavelength grows and crackles around him. "Jon! Stop! Calm down! I'm sure there is a reason the witches are there!" Ming says as she grabs Jon from behind. It doesn't fully calm him, but he relaxes his wavelength. For now.
Seeing that rise in power though makes all of the heroes and students nervous. "So those are some of the other witches. Like the one who killed my parents." Izuku says with a slightly cold tone.
That statement shocks everyone around the office and outside. With Shiozaki quickly doing a sign of the cross and praying for Izuku. While Katsuki raged for a moment while trying to not make a lot of noise.
"So you're the one this monster has been training. Well you do seem capable and you have a reason to fight us. Though I'm still opposed to what you were agreeing to Maba-sama." The fox witch says with a huff.
The witch just starts saying Nyamu, after nyamu to her assistant. Breaking down her assistant's façade, though confusing most everyone else. When she's done, Lord Death thanks the head witch. "Now then. We have a lot to talk about." Lord Death says with a clap of his hands.
He gives the general overview of who Jon, Ming, and a few of the others were before explaining some other details of their world and how these people all came to be in the world of heroes. Which leaves everyone listening shocked, dumbfounded, and disbelieving. Even with the mountains of evidence to show.
"And thus Izuku has been learning to be a meister from Star here. Now though, he's continuing to train miss Shield and miss Bayana. They all have the potential to be great meisters. But there is something else. Something….. special and unusual that is being approved from our end."
With that said, Lord Death looks to the head witch with an uncertain gaze. And the woman just nods and says nyamu. "Sigh…. The witches assembly has put forward the option to make more Death Scythes."
This gets all of the meisters wide eyed, while the weapons each look excited. "We can unlock our full potential!? Does what does that mean for this world though? I wonder what else I'll be able to do as a Death Scythe!?"
"Hold on. Before you get too excited, there have been some stipulations. And I agree with them. They'll only allow for eight Death Scythes. Per world in this case. Considering the mess that came about due to the Morrigan and then all these problems with Da Ji and her armies of followers. They felt the need for greater firepower to protect the world. Even if it meant the death and absorption of their fellows." Lord Death explains.
While most from UA were still confused, Nezu had his suspicions and asked about it. "I take it these Death Scythes are important. And most likely extremely impressive weapons?" Lord Death nodded and noted that they were the weapons his father had to help protect the world from dangerous beings and people.
"Okay that's great and all, but what do we do with these guys? We can't just let them go free." Mic says while still confused by all the bombs dropped. But that is when Mifune speaks up. "Why not bring him on as a teacher or trainer. Even I can tell that Izuku kid has come quite far. You might even be able to show more of what you or anyone with a strong soul can do Star."
Jon though just looks annoyed at the prospect of teaching more people. Ming on the other hand seems excited. Mifune also mentions that it could do the other meisters some good to be around other teens. "I know you've been living in the mountains and training the kid. But that doesn't have to always be your way of life."
Nezu claps before saying, "that sounds quite interesting. I'm curious on what it is you can do young man. And for now. I know you likely just settled in at All Might's home, but I think we could have you stay here young man. And your students."
The warrior just gives the rodent principal a look as if to say he thought the man, beast, whatever, was crazy. But even if it was a bit suppressed, he could tell Izuku was excited at the prospect of living and learning at UA.
"Ugh. Fine. But I'm not doing lesson plans or anything! I'll just spar with them." Jon says with his arms crossed. Ming just chuckles before thanking Nezu. With the transmission cutting off and another good luck from said side, the heroes could make their own statements and actions.
The first being Midnight pulling El, Izuku, Mary and all the others who had been affected by the witches machinations into a hug. "You've all had to endure so much. And while I don't doubt miss Guan and mister Star have tried to be there for you, you could always have more people at your side."
"Agreed. Midoriya. If you ever want to just talk or vent, my door is open." The therapist of the school Hound Dog said even while muzzled. Izuku just looks away before thanking the teachers.
Outside though, the students who listened in were each a bit shocked. Not just about another world and what came from it. But also what some had to deal with thanks to dangerous destructive forces. "Dek….. no. Izuku. Damnit. I don't even know what to say." Bakugo says while wiping his face.
Momo and the rest are in similar states as they walk away from the office. Kirishima though was impressed by the courage and will of all the meisters. While Shiozaki was questioning if she could pray to Lord Death as well. With Tokoyami along with her and wondering if he could get some items to go with that.
After talking with Lord Death, a new face entered the office. A young woman who was an assistant to Nezu. "Ah. Bokusai-san. It's a bit too early to be in here." All Might had buffed up with the knock on the door. "I apologize sir, but these…. Need…. Your signature."
Bokusai Kosho, a pink haired blue eyed girl, froze slightly as she saw Jon, Ming, Johari, and the rest. Who also had moments of shock. With Ming stepping up first to chuckle and say, "so there were other weapons dropped close by. Good to see you Kosho-chan."
This shocks the heroes again, before asking what she was talking about. "She means that girl is from our world. She's a weapon. Specifically… actually now that I think about it, what are you again?"
Bokusai blushes before saying, "I'm a… a robe or obi. I'm not really sure I can demonstrate. I don't think I can resonate with you or Johari." "But you can with Izuku." Jon says with a look to the boy. Who just looks confused before nodding.
"I'm a little rusty but, I'll try to change again." Bokusai says before trying to feel her old form. It takes a few minutes, but she eventually turns into a sash that rests on Izuku's shoulders and arms. The boy takes stock of the new weapon before using the item like Aizawa would a restraint cloth. Even cutting one of Snipe's guns when he focused some of his wavelength into the edge of the weapon.
Ming smiles before saying it would be good to teach the girl again. "But it is surprising that you're much older now. Actually, I think you're older than we are. And I originally knew you when you were just five or so years old."
Bokusai blushes before saying she got dropped here almost 20 years ago. "Similar to what happened to Kpinga. That spell of theirs really sent us across time and space." Johari comments with a scratch of her head.
Nezu seems extra intrigued by this turn of events and suggests that his assistant works with the miesters to improve on what she can do. "Hopefully they could find you a partner eventually. In the meantime, Midnight could you show the group to some spare beds." Midnight gives an affirmative before directing them to a place to rest for the night. With the teachers all wondering what could happen in the days to come.
In a different part of Japan later in the day, Ida Tensei was struggling. He'd recently been investigating a group of kidnappers and his agency was raiding their base. When most of the captives had been freed and evacuated, the engine armed hero rushed off to where he saw the villain retreating into a tunnel.
But said person wasn't running much further. Instead, she had stopped and turned back to face the man. "Well now. Another of these 'hero' types yes. I give you some credit for breaking in and capturing those fools. But it will not help you here."
The one speaking appeared to be little more than a young girl. Her eyes though gave off a reptilian feel. With Tensei himself feeling as though he was a rat facing a snake. Just as he was about to call for backup though, the villain struck.
In an instant, the arm he was bringing up to his ear to call is gone. He barely has a chance to freak out or try and run, his other arm is severed. And a barrage of spikes fills his chest. As his life is ebbing away, he looks up and sees what took his arm.
Coming from the side of the young girl was a massive eel like creature. One that ate both of his arms before shooting him with its spike like teeth. The girl sneered at him before saying, "don't worry. I'll put your body to good use soon enough." As the light faded from Tensei's eyes, he only thought about his brother and how he would take this.
To Laughingman, I was actually going for her to be a bit defensive about her religion. Let alone pointing to the Old Testament and when Jehovah was a bit heavier handed. But I think it got lost in the way I wrote it. Also I hope you liked some of the other stories I've done.
Aside from that, I'm thinking on doing a minor expose chapter about a few of the weapons I've made here. Like Eldora, Muwali, Kosho, and the like. As well as setting up an interesting person to battle. Please review.
