It was a bright sunny day as two women sat outside at a table on a hill having what appeared to be tea. Both women looked in their 30's though one looked a few years younger. The one that was younger was a Caucasian looking woman, she had waist long hair that was black as the night. She also had copper hazel eyes that seem hold knowledge and age of a woman decades older than this woman appeared to be. The woman that was sitting across from the younger woman was also Caucasian. However, her hair was blond as well going to her waist in a ponytail, and her eyes were red.
"You know it nice to relax every now then," The brunette said as she took sip of her tea.
"Yes, it is," the blond answered, "The Sirens have given us little time for respite,"
The brunette shuddered and clenched her fist, "It is unfair! Not only are these monsters fighting and hurting our comrades; we can't do anything to those freaks!"
The older woman gave her younger counter part a sympathetic look, "It is unfair Connie, unfair that our glory days of fighting are long gone, and we can only guide our future generations, yet never fight beside them,"
Connie gained a bashful look, "Sorry Vic, we are supposed to be relaxing,"
Vic smiled, "Do not worry about it, I feel the exact same way," Vic then clenched her fists as well, "HMS Victory: Oldest commissioned warship in the world, the flagship of the First Sea Lord and the entire Royal Navy. Yet all I can do is sit on the sidelines and watch my descendants throw themselves at the enemy..."
Connie nodded, after all; she was USS Constitution: America's Ship of State, second oldest commissioned warship in the world, and the flagship of the entire United States Navy. Constitution completely understood what Victory was going through and vice versa. They were kindred spirts, stuck in a world that did not need them. Sure, they provided vital leadership and morale, but those niches could be replaced if the need arose by the likes of people like Enterprise and Queen Elizbeth. The days of when their crews roared in anticipation, muskets barked in defiance, and their cannon thundered in anger were long over before they were even given these bodies.
They sat in a comfortable silence for a minute and enjoyed the tea and each other's company before Constitution thought of a question, "You know I have been wondering, why do you obey the Queen even though, technically, you are in charge?" Constitution asked.
Victory chuckled, "While yes on paper, I am in charge; however, I found it better to simply teach someone who could not only be my successor but also a person who could take my advice straight to and on the battlefield,"
"And thus, you act more like an advisor than like you are in charge," Constitution summarized. Victory nodded, besides Queen Elizbeth was named after one England's beloved rulers, her sister is the famous Warspite, and had been in charge before in the war. There were more reasons for Elizbeth to be in charge than not. Maybe in her younger years Victory would have strove to be completely in charge, but those days were over for her.
"I do wish she would tone down that attitude of hers, she acts like an actual monarch: as if she has the divine right to rule,"
"But she isn't a monarch,"
"Exactly, just because your namesake was a ruler does not make you one,"
"By that logic King George V would have just as much of the right to be in charge of the Royal Navy as Elizbeth does," Constitution commented, "Which could be a problem if she actually desired that position and wasn't so loyal to Queen Elizbeth,"
"Yes, we are fortunate that King George V is completely loyal to the 'Queen'," Victory said with a small smile. She knew what the struggle for power could do, after all; she had seen the French Revolution and the Revolutions of 1848 firsthand. "How about you Connie? The Eagle Union seems stable on the outside but can the same be said for the inside?" Victory asked.
Constitution nodded, "Thankfully yes, the girls have a great a deal of respect of me or anyone who is their superior," Constitution then gave a light chuckle, "Even if they don't always follow the orders they or I give out,"
Victory raised an eyebrow, "Must be frustrating,"
"Don't give me that look," Constitution rolled her eyes, "We try to punish them, but is hard to really punish them when one, the insubordination is minor and/or results in a major victory,"
"Of course, replace 'punish' with a 'slap on the wrist' and you would be correct," Victory said as she gave a small giggle.
Constitution gave a lighthearted groan, "I do not know if it is from my hesitance to the return to what it was like in the old days or the fact that I like the girls a little too much, but I am always so reluctant to punish the girls too harshly,"
Victory nodded, "I too do not yearn for days of the Cat O' Nine Tails, but do not discredit yourself I have seen how the girls look at you with the respect in their eyes, " Victory stop for a moment before she continued, "I also have seen the fear and guilt in their eyes when they mess up and disappoint you, "
"I guess lax by our standards is still strict by theirs," Constitution chuckled, "And thank you for your words they meant a lot," Victory smiled. The two shipgirls once again lapsed into a comfortable silence as they enjoyed their tea.
A distant boom interrupted their silence followed by sirens. Both women jumped up, knocked over their chairs, and drew their respective flintlocks.
"Shit!" Constitution exclaimed as the explosions grew more frequent and smoke started to rise from the naval base, "We need to help them!" Constitution started to run to the naval base before Victory grabbed her, "What ar-!?"
"Constitution!" Victory shouted, "You know as well as I that we would get in the way!" Constitution looked at Victory in anger; anger that she had stopped her and the fact that she was right.
Thus, as flames started to consume the naval base and the shouts of friends and foe had finally reached a volume that they could reach the two veterans, that Constitution turned her back to naval base, "DAMMIT!" Constitution screamed as she threw her flintlock on the ground so that so hard that it made a very small crater. Victory gave an apologetic look, though her eyes displayed the same amount, if not greater anger than Constitution's.
Constitution picked up her flintlock, which by some miracle was undamaged, "We should go," Constitution then said through gritted teeth. Victory silently nodded, both war veterans then ran away from the main base and toward to the nearby forest.
Since this was an Eagle Union base Constitution knew the area best and took the lead. Constitution was aware that there were several deep storage warehouses deep in the island, a few of which held non-volatile storage. Unfortunately, Constitution only really knew how to get to the closest one from the main roads, of which they were neither on nor would be on as they could not risk being caught or seen by the Sirens. So as futuristic aircraft flew overhead, which confirmed without a doubt that this was indeed Siren attack, that Constitution made sure to stay in the trees and bushes.
It had approximately been half an hour since the attack started, and the duo had travelled in relative silence. The Siren aircraft that flew overhead became less frequent, both Constitution and Victory had silently hoped that this meant that their descendants were winning but the distant sounds of battle of were as loud as ever, so they did not hold their breath. As they moved, they were cautious and constantly checked their surroundings, they were almost to the warehouse: They could not mess up now.
Victory then suddenly spoke in a whisper, "How have our bodies not been attacked yet?
The question made Constitution pause for a moment, only for a moment, before she continued, "I don't know," was her response finally. It was a good question, their original bodies were in harbor with everyone else's ship forms, they should have felt some sort of attack by now. Constitution had a theory, "Maybe we are not the target of and/or reason for the attack and thus not worth the effort of destroying?" It was a bad theory; it had a lot of holes in it and Constitution knew it, but it was the only thing she could think of.
"Yet we are not even being hit by a stray bullet or shell?" Victory responded. Constitution quietly cursed; she had realized that that was one of the biggest holes in her theory. What was worse was that she had no retort to it. The harbor, as big as it was, with both ships from the Royal Navy and the Eagle Union: was extremely crowded. Yet, not even stray shrapnel had hit them?
Her train of thought was interrupted when the warehouse came into view; thankfully, it appeared to be undamaged. The sound of the battle was still quite loud and consistent, which meant the battle was far from over. The warehouse able to provide good cover until the battle nearly or completely over. After Constitution made sure that the coast was clear she signaled for Victory and her to approach the building. As they approached, both of them still made sure to watch their backs to be certain that no siren aircraft got the jump on them.
Just as they got to the door it exploded. Both girls used their arms to cover their faces as the smoke washed over them. As the smoke cleared it revealed a feminine figure. The figure was what appeared to be a woman; She had a crazed look in her gold eyes, she wore a white shirt that exposed a lot her midriff and short shorts that accentuated her thighs, she also had sliver hair that was longer than her entire body, additionally she wore boots that that went up to her thighs. Though the feature that caused Constitution's and Victory's heart to sink was the seemingly futuristic floating cannons behind the girl that seemed to have a shark motif.
"Purifier," Victory said, her voiced laced disgust.
Purifier giggled, "Hello anomalies! I hope despite your age you guys can still put up a good fight!"
Before anything else could be said Purifier's guns started to move. Constitution immediately charged the siren with surprising speed. Constitution then dropped to the ground to scoop up some dirt and throw it in Purifier's face. Purifier had not expected this attack and thus was not relying on her radar, which meant she was blinded for a second. Just when Purifier recovered and started to use her radar, Constitution pulled her flintlock and was, by some miracle, accurate enough to hit Purifier in the eye. While it did not do any damage it did once again disorient Purifier with the impact. This allowed Constitution to use the one advantage Victory and she had in these bodies: Their speed and strength appeared to be scaled to their time. Thus, as Constitution's fist connected with Purifier's face she felt and reacted as if she had punched by a heavy cruiser. As Purifier slid back, before she could recover: Victory joined the fight. As Victory closed the distance and uppercutted Purifier, this time she felt as she been hit by a battleship.
The Siren flew back, Constitution launched herself at the siren determined to not give Purifier a single moment to catch her breath. Constitution kicked the alien into ground where Victory was waiting. The two shipgirls kept up this strategy of constantly trading off and keeping Purifier off balance. Eventually both Victory and Constitution decided to attack at the same time. Purifier used this to her advantage by slamming her guns into both kansen making them fly back a few feet.
Constitution winced as she held her stomach and tried to get up. She cursed that her strength and speed had been scaled, but her durability had not. Constitution looked over to see Victory had managed to get back on her feet; however, Constitution was still on her knees. Before Victory could help Constitution Purifier started to giggle.
"And here I was worried that this would be boring!" Purifier exclaimed; her face bruised and even slightly bloody, "But the Creator really needs you anomalies gone" as she said the last part the sirens aimed at the two warship and started to charge them up.
Just before the cannons could fire, A barrage of yellow bullets force Purifier to abort her attack and use her cannons to cover herself. A figure stepped out of the tree line. The figure was a female that had waist long sliver hair with purple eyes and wore a maid outfit. Woman also seem to have several mechanical appendages that had what seemed like miniature Royal Navy triple gun turrets.
"Madams are you alright?" The Maid asked as she still kept her eyes and weapons pointed at the siren.
"Thank you, Belfast," Constitution said as Victory helped her back on her feet, "Yes, we are alright,"
"Status Report," Victory ordered.
Belfast's face hardened, "While we have managed to turn the tide, the fighting in the harbor is still intense," Belfast hesitated for a second, "I was sent to find you two when even though your original bodies were blocked off and protected by other girl's ship forms, the sirens still dedicated a large portion of their air fleet to destroy you, fortunately our carriers were in the area and were able to shoot all the planes before they could drop their payload,"
Before Constitution and Victory could even properly digest that information, The sound of Siren aircraft approaching was heard. It seemed Purifier had not just stood idle and had called reinforcements. Unfortunately for Purifier: Belfast had also called reinforcements. Thus, before the siren aircraft could get any closer, Eagle Union Wildcats swooped form the clouds tore through the aliens with ruthless efficiency.
A woman stepped out of the tree line. She had similar hair and eyes to Belfast without maid head band. Instead of also wearing a maid outfit the woman wore a traditional dress with blue heels, the woman also wore an admiral's coat over her dress. Attached to her right side was the flight deck of an aircraft carrier with the number five painted on it. she had a mechanical bow drawn and pointed at Purifier. The woman launched the arrow at Purifier, before the arrow reached Purifier the arrow transformed into three Wildcats that immediately started to fire on the Siren. This time the fighters specifically targeted Purifier's cannons, which heavily damaged them.
"It is good to see you: Yorktown," Constitution stated.
Yorktown nodded as she launched another arrow spawning dive bombers this time and kept her eyes on the siren as the dive bombers and fighters fought Purifier and kept her busy.
"Belfast, you are lucky that I was already in the area looking for you when I got your message," Yorktown stated.
"I sincerely apologize, I had great trouble finding the madams, they are surprisingly hard to find when they want to be," said Belfast. The madams in question lightly chuckled.
The lady's attention was brought back to Purifier as she shot down that last of Yorktown's aircraft which caused the carrier to give an uncharacteristic scowl. Purifier also looked unusually frustrated.
"I will not fail the creator," she said in a serious tone. The Siren then aimed her cannons one last time at her targets. As the weapons charged arcs of electricity jumped between the damaged sections. The ladies tried to stop the alien, but it was no use. Purifier simply ignored the pain and damage, determined to kill her targets.
Just before the cannons fired, one of Yorktown's dive bombers was able to punch through the siren's Anti-Air, Purifier was so focused on her targets that she did not even register this had happened until she felt the bomb hit her back. This caused the Siren's weapons to go haywire. They started to detonate in way that suggested there would be one big explosion. It was now that both sides panicked. Purifier tried in vain to shut down her weapons, Yorktown and Belfast both turned and tried to reach their respective flagships to shield them, while said flagships tried to shield themselves as they knew that any attempt to run to cover would be futile.
Then there was nothing but white.
Constitution groaned as she woke up with a splitting headache. The first thing she registered was that it was still day, so she had not been unconscious for long. Constitution then shot up as she thought the battle with Purifier and the harbor likely was not over. Only to discover she was no longer on the island but on the sea; in fact, there was no land insight. The second thing she realized was that she was currently on her original body. The third was that Victory's original body was right next to her on Constitution's port side.
"Vic! You there?" Constitution shouted as she stood up.
The disheveled face of Victory popped up, "Yes," Victory said groggily, another indicator that she too had just woken up, "What the hell happened? How the hell did we get here?"
"I do not know, but Purifier's misfire transported us somewhere far," Constitution responded, "Are we in a mirror sea?"
"Let's both check our instruments!" Victory declared. Constitution nodded before she went to check her navigation instruments; only to find that any instrument that was installed past her prime was absent.
Constitution's concerned grew when she studied her compass and chronometer. She saw neither of them were acting up and were giving consistent data even though the location they suggest she was at was nowhere near the naval base she had been living on previously. She further investigated herself and discovered that the only 'modern' tech she had was her personal 1873 Springfield Model. Everything else was from her time during the War of 1812, especially her armament.
Thoroughly confused Constitution returned to her spar deck to meet with Victory. Constitution waited for a few minutes before Victory's head popped up once more.
"You were checking our exact position, weren't you?" Constitution guessed. Victory nodded her head, "And our position is nowhere where we were before?"
"Yep," Victory said popping the 'p', "According to my calculations we have jumped oceans," Constitution cursed at the news.
"Almost everything currently on me on is from my Battle of Trafalgar campaign, you?" Victory asked.
"War of 1812," Constitution responded.
"The only thing remotely modern on you is your 1873 Springfield?"
"Yes, can I assume the same goes for your Martini-Henry?"
"Aye," Victory answered.
"What the hell is going on?" Constitution thought. As far she knew this was unheard of. Sure, Sirens have displaced Kansen before, but never this large amount of distance, especially on accident. And reverting a shipgirl to pervious state they had been earlier in their life? And again, all completely on accident? This was certainly new.
"We should start sailing towards the nearest Eagle Union port before the winds becomes unfavorable," Victory suggested.
"Aye," Constitution agreed.
As easily as one would clench a fist the ladies willed the sails on their masts and rigging to drop to full sail. The warships then set course on what should have been the closest Eagle Union port. Constitution, due to her faster speed, started to pull head of Victory. As she pulled further ahead, Constitution was unwilling to slow down enough for Victory to completely catch up, time was of the essence, they had no idea if the base attack was still happening. However, Constitution still made sure her companion was, at the very least, in eyesight. Both Victory and her had also managed rigged up a lamp to be able send messages in the form of Morse Code. This allowed for them to stay in contact even with their distance without having to use the headache that were signal flags.
As the day went on Constitution's concern grew. They should have been roughly located in the Caribbean headed to Florida. Concerningly, Constitution had yet to see a single recognizable landmark/waypoint to indicate they were on the right heading. In fact, she had yet to see a single piece of evidence that they were in the Caribbean. Her concern skyrocketed when she started to see a shadow in the water, that did not resemble any whale or other sea animal that she was aware of, start to circle her.
"Not good," The frigate thought as she glanced towards the horizon only to just barely see the very tops of Victory's masts. It would seem that in her concern she had accidently out pace Victory more than she intended. This meant it would be a few minutes before Victory even registered anything was wrong, let alone come into range to help.
The shadow started enlarge and circle Constitution more rapidly. Constitution decided that this creature was not friendly and thus, it was time to beat to quarters as well as retrieve her 1873 Springfield. As she did so something, most likely whatever monster the shadow was, in the water started to bump against Constitution's hull. Constitution had had enough of the beast and determined she would be the one to strike first. She fired her rifle at the shadow in the water, there was a crackle as the gun fired and a small splash as the bullet entered the water. The bullet, of course, did no damage but accomplished its intended purpose: to draw the monster out of the water. A black serpentine dragon with a white skull and blood red eyes rose from the ocean on Constitution's port side.
The creature roared at the war veteran in what seemed to in vain attempt to intimidate her. Unfortunately for the monster, 90 seconds had passed since Constitution beat to quarters: all of Constitution's cannons were now loaded. The frigate's gun ports opened, 30 24-pounder long guns, 22 32-pounder carronades, and a few 24-pounder bow and stern chasers were all hauled to their firing positions. They did not wait long as almost immediately Constitution willed her port guns to fire. The beast at the last second seemed to recognize the danger of the cannons and attempted to maneuver to safety. The effort would be in vain as before the monster could move completely out of the way, Constitution opened up with a rolling broadside from bow to stern. Her cannons barked and roared as for the first time in a very long time: Constitution fired her guns in anger.
Most of cannons the missed in the monster in one way or another. However, one 24-pound and two 32-pound cannonballs did find their mark. While they did not kill the beast, 536 pounds of solid iron going faster than the speed of sound still hurt, a lot. The beast in roared in pain as the cannonballs slammed into the monster obliterating any bone armor or flesh they came into contact with the 32-pound cannonballs stayed lodge in beast while the 24-pound cannonball overpenetrated creating a gaping hole in the creature. Despite the heavy damaged this caused it did not seem to deter the monster. In fact, it only seemed to enrage the beast. With a roar the monster seemed to further enhance its dragon motif by charging what appeared to be lightening in its mouth. Constitution cursed as she raised her rifle and fired at the dragon's left eye in an attempt to make it stop its attack. It accomplished its task wonderfully when Constitution actually managed to hit the monster's eye causing it to flinch in pain when it fired its attack, which made said attack completely miss. As the monster thrash around in pain, Constitution immediately sought to capitalize on this and ordered once more to fire her cannons. However, this time the sea dragon reacted quicker and managed to dive underwater and resurfaced on Constitution's other side. Regrettably for the monster, it had never registered that Constitution had at the very beginning had brought herself about and had been sailing towards Victory the entire time. It was thus as the monster reared its head to attack that several booms were heard moments before several cannonballs rocketed towards the monster slamming into it: The ship that denied Napoleon England had joined the fight. The creature had barely enough time to bring its tail up to block the attack. Victory was undeterred as she furthered turned to give the beast her own rolling broadside. The monster gave its loudest roar of pain yet as its tail was almost completely shot away under Victory's seemingly unending broadside. Constitution had not been idle as she also gave the beast her own broadside. However, the beast managed to dive underwater before any fatal blow could be inflicted.
The ship of the line and the frigate had only a few moments respite before the monster burst out of the ocean and spread a pair of wings that Constitution had not notice before and took to the sky. Not for the first time, Constitution cursed her lack of AA. The dragon struggled with some of its aerial maneuvers from its injuries before it finally managed to get in position to dive bomb Constitution. Constitution got an idea as she saw that the beast was directly over her, so she scrambled up her main mast as fast as she could. She did not stop as she reached the top and then proceeded to throw herself into the air as high as she could. as she reached the apex of her height, she aimed her Springfield right at the dragon. The dragon had noticed this and had opened its maw to seemingly consume the frigate. They were now close enough that Constitution could actually smell the beast's putrid breath. Before the beast could even react, Constitution switched her target to a joint on the beast right wing and fired. The bullet flew true and completely obliterated the joint, rendering the entire wing absolutely useless. This compromised what little air stability the dragon had left and caused it to fly out of control. As the head of the beast was about pass her Constitution kicked it as hard as she could, sending it away from her original body. As the dragon splashed into water Constitution was able to save herself as she managed to catch herself on some of her rigging.
The warships stood by for several tense moments as they waited for the monster to resurface. Suddenly, a shadow appeared right next Victory; before they could respond the dragon surfaced ramming Victory starboard side as it did so. Victory was partially thrown out of the water before slamming back down and rapidly began to list. Constitution was forced to suppress her shock as the beast dove down again. Predicting that what happened to Victory was about to happen to her, Constitution prepared herself to transform into her kansen form. As the shadow appeared right under Constitution, she was ready. A second before the monster struck, Constitution's original body exploded into a shower of what looked like blue cube like objects. As the monster breached the surface the cubes flew towards Constitution, as they reached her, they formed two appendages on her left and right side that resembled the port and starboard sides of her ship form respectively. The cubes also added one large mast on her back that towered over the lady. Before the jaws of the beast could close around her, Constitution used a tooth to swing herself to the right side of the monster's head. Then using the bayonet on her Springfield, she drove the blade hard into the beast's remaining eye which caused a large amount of blood to spill out. The dragon roared as hard it could and shook its head violently and threw Constitution off. Constitution landed on her feet now able to stand on the water due to her kansen form. The dragon now blinded flailed around wildly before it sniffed the air and 'looked' over at Constitution and roared. It was obvious that monster was on its last legs and Constitution prepared to finish the fight. However, the sea dragon had made one last and fatal mistake: In its rage it had discarded Victory as no longer a threat. So as the monster reared its head back and started to charge one last lightening breath attack that Victory set off another broadside. Victory had managed to turn herself around so that her starboard side was facing away the monster and subsequently her list. This allowed Victory's cannons to target the beast's head. Constitution watched as a cannonball fired from one of Victory's 68-pounder carronades and fly straight into the monster's head decimating the entire thing and finally killing the beast.
Constitution barely acknowledged the fact that the body immediately started to disintegrate as she was more concerned with conditioned of her companion. Constitution decided to resummon her original body and approach her friend. Constitution maneuvered to Victory's starboard side. As she approached, she saw that Victory had shut all of her lower gun deck starboard gun ports to prevent the water from entering en masse. Constitution also observed that Victory higher gun ports were in the process of being closed as well. As she got closer, she could also hear Victory's pumps working as hard as they could. Once Constitution was close enough, she immediately jumped onto Victory's side and climbed onto her quarterdeck. Constitution straight away ran down to Victory's hold; when she reached the lower gun deck, she saw Victory herself pushing her starboard cannons to her port side, no doubt to counter act her list. The two only exchange a nod before both returned to their respective objectives: time was short, and both trusted the other to do the right thing. When Constitution had reached the orlop deck she did not continue, instead she made a slight detour and retrieved some spare canvas. With the canvas in her hand Constitution then proceeded to the hold where the breach in Victory's hull was. The water was already at Constitution's knees almost her waist and was rising at a worryingly fast rate. Constitution found the breach in the hull and unfortunately; the breach was located underwater. Constitution waded through the water as fast as she could and got as close as she could, at same time she made sure the sailing canvas was above the water, before she took a deep breath and dove underwater.
Once she got right in front of the hole, she shoved the canvas straight into the hole. Relief washed over Constitution as felt and saw as the canvas swell up due to absorbing water, which almost completely clogged the breach. While it did not stop the flooding it did slow it down enough that the pumps could easily keep up and outpace the flooding. Constitution stayed for a few minutes to be absolutely certain that the water level was going down. As she sat there, she took noticed that Victory managed to counter act list as it was barely noticeable compared when she first came down here. Constitution let out a sigh but did not relax; They were far from out the woods. Once the water level went down sufficiently, they would have to put some planks on the hole. Even then, Victory would still have to enter drydock in order to install replacement planks that properly conformed to her hull. They also had been lucky; it had been a glancing blow and it had not hit her keel. Had it hit her keel Victory's back would have been broken and there would have been no saving her.
Satisfied with the rate that the water Constitution decided to head back up deck. Once she was back up on the quarterdeck, she saw Victory taking in the last light of the sunset before nightfall.
"We should continue," Constitution advised. "We need to get you into dry dock as soon as possible,"
"No, I do not think that will be possible," Victory said solemnly. When Constitution gave her a confused look Victory pointed behind her. "We are no longer on Earth,"
Constitution looked at what at Victory pointed at and let out a gasp as she beheld a shattered moon. Then as the sunlight further faded stars appeared in constellations that were completely unrecognizable. Constitution could only think of one word to express,
"Fuck,"
"Indeed," Victory agreed.
"Still there must be some where we can at least ground you until we can build a cofferdam around you," Constitution suggested, "I myself cannot sail on the open ocean indefinitely let alone you with that hole in your hull,"
Before Victory could give her response, the warships saw on the horizon a bright moving light.
"That has to be a ship," said Victory.
Constitution had to agree, the speed at which that was moving and overall, just the way it behaved left no doubt in her mind. However,
"Is it friendly?" The frigate asked.
"No idea, but it is not like we have a choice," said Victory, "We cannot sail forever, we need directions to this world's nearest major port, and finally: that ship is heading towards us, and we do not have speed to get away even if we wanted to,"
The last part made Constitution look back of the ship to see it was indeed headed towards their general direction at speed they would not escape.
"Alright let us go say hi,"
Once Constitution was back on her old body, she retrieved her jerry-rigged lantern before she set course for the light. As she did, she made sure that Victory was right behind her at all times. The foreign ship was finally coming into view as Constitution could just barely could make out the top mast of the ship. Constitution now held up her lantern and signaled for the ship to identify themselves over and over again, praying that they understood Morse code.
Just before Constitution lost all hope she got a response,
"VALEAN PASSENGER LINER: AGEIS. YOU?"
Constitution was slightly confused on what on the first on the word the ship said, regardless; Constitution was relieved to hear that they were a passenger liner and were most likely friendly. Constitution realized that the first word was likely the Nation or faction they belonged to and since she did not recognize their nation there was no way they would recognize hers.
"SAILING FRIGATE: CONSTITUTION," was how Constitution introduced herself.
"SHIP OF THE LINE: VICTORY," was Victory's introduction.
"DUE TO STORM AND CREATURE ATTACK WE HAVE LOST OUR BEARING. ONE OF US IS DAMAGED. REQUEST ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE." As Constitution sent out the message, the Ageis was now close enough that the hull of the ship was now entirely in view. It looked like a unusual mix between wood and metal. It was strange design that Constitution did not recognize, which further reinforced the idea they were not on Earth anymore.
"UNDERSTOOD. BOARD US FOR ASSINTANCE." Once they finished flashing the message the ship maneuvered and slowed down in such a way that with the direction of the wind Constitution and Victory could easily approach.
Constitution came along Aegis's starboard side while Victory came along Aegis's port. Both ships then proceed to throw ropes on the Aegis in order to keep all the ships together.
As Constitution approached the Aegis's side, a sailor threw ladder down. Constitution climbed the latter, when she got to the top where the sailor helped her up and onto the ship. As she stepped aboard, she got a good look at the boy who assisted her. A boy he was too as his facial hair was nothing more than peach fuzz. However, Constitution was surprised when she noticed the deer antlers. The boy seemed to fidget when he noticed Constitution's gaze on his antlers.
"Where is your captain, boy?" Constitution asked in a soft tone. She would ignore the the deer antlers for now, there were more important things to discuss.
The boy looked slightly nervous, though he did, thankfully, seem to register and understand Constitution's words.
"Um he is on the other side helping your friend, mam," The boy hesitantly said as he pointed to Aegis's port side.
Constitution nodded and proceeded to walk were the boy pointed. As she approached, she saw Victory shake her hand with what seem to be the captain. Constitution was greatly amused that the man looked like the stereotypical captain with a blue trench coat, white hair and beard, with a captain's hat.
The captain then noticed Constitution,
"Hello, I am captain Caeruleum," Caeruleum introduced with a warm tone and held out his, "I was just apologizing to your friend Victorious here about our late response. We did not even pick up you two on radar let alone see until you started signaling us,"
"Connie," Constitution said as she took the captain's hand, "And Yea, sorry if we gave any of you a fright,"
"Think nothing of it," Caeruleum nodded, "Now you ladies said that you have lost your bearing?" The man gestured and led them to the Aegis's navigation room as he spoke the last sentence.
Constitution explained how they were attacked by the monster. Constitution made sure to explain its appearance vaguely enough so that if monster like the one they met were not common; the captain would think it was some deformed deep-sea creature. She then explained how due to the attack they were caught by surprise by a storm that completely threw them off course and destroyed their only map.
The old sea dog chuckled, "Sounds like you guys ran into a Sea Feilong. Nasty species of Grimm," Constitution was a little surprised that Caeruleum was actually able to identify the creature from her vague description. It did deeply worried her though, that what they experienced seemed commonplace in this world.
"Rudolph get the spare map," Caeruleum ordered the boy with antlers. The boy nodded fiercely before he scurried away. Constitution had to suppress a small laugh when she heard his name: it was kind of cute.
"He is rather young...," said Victory, "Is he a midshipman?"
"No h- wait," The Captain started before he changed his mind and thought for a bit, "Yeah I guess you could classify him as one," When he saw Victory and Constitution raise an eyebrow at him, he explained further, "He is my nephew. He has always taken a liking to what I do. So, when he turned 15 not even a month ago, I asked my sister if could take him along for one trip to see if this is what he truly wanted in life. She agreed so long as brought him on my safest route. So here we are on his first voyage."
"May I give some advice, " Constitution asked. When she got a nod she resumed, "The boy will need to grow more of backbone if he wants to be a part of this life," The ocean was unforgiving, even without monsters in it, and Constitution saw in that boy's eyes that he was timid. If he wanted to continue to apart of this life, he would need to learn that a sailor's life was not for the weak of heart.
"You noticed that too?" The captain chuckled, "Aye, the lad is bit more timid here than I would like. But I hope that it is because it's his first time aboard. If he is like this on the way back, I will speak to him,"
The boy then returned with a rolled-up map. Caeruleum took the map and thank the boy before he sent him to go check on the passenger halls. He then sprawled then map over a table. Constitution had to suppress an ironic laugh when she saw just how different the map was to Earth.
"Here ," Caerleum said as he drew a point at a spot below the continent that resembled a dragon, "Is where we are," Then he drew a path to the east and circled a peninsula, "This Vale city; I know for a fact they will have drydocks for the Victory," As he said the last sentence he wrapped up the map and gave it to Victory, "Stay on this course, the winds will be favorable and there is very little Grimm to encounter,"
"Thank you very much Captain," said Victory as she shook Caeruleum's hand once again.
"What do we owe for this act of generosity?" Constitution asked.
"Nothing,' The man waved his hand, "Think this an act of charity. All I lose is a spare map and in return I get to help two fellow sailors,"
Victory and Constitution thanked Caeruleum profusely. In the end they managed to force Caeruleum to accept a gold coin as a form payment. Now satisfied enough to leave they said their farewells and went back aboard their respective ships
As Caeruleum watch the age of sail warships set course due east his female first officer approached him,
"Those girls were... strange," She commented.
"Aye, their style of dress and their technology was very old fashioned and/or outdated," said the captain as he inspected the coin.
"Do you think they will make it?"
"Yes, I do lass. The route they are on is quite safe and their destination is only a few days away,"
"I have never seen ships of those designs before, have you?"
"Aye, but those two aren't just ships lass: they're warships. All those square cutouts are gun ports: all of them. Every inch of them was constructed with the art of war in mind. The problem is I have not seen a warship that primarily uses sail like they do in a long, long time. And those two look brand new,"
"What does that mean?"
"It means that no kingdom has constructed them, they would simply build a modern one. And a village would have to be pretty big to have the resources and infrastructure the build one of them let alone two,"
"Do you think they will be friendly to Vale?"
"I would not have help them if I didn't,"
A brunette woman sighed as she walked with her team. The brunette wore she a black, buttoned vest with coattails and a single silver button on the front. Underneath was a white, sleeveless, high necked, crop undershirt and white shorts. She also wore two black boots that came up to her hips. On top of her head was black bow.
"Why exactly are heading towards the docks, Weiss?" asked the blond right next to the girl who wore a bow. The blond wore a tan jacket that showed her midriff, with golden brown piping and short, puffy sleeves with black cuffs that feature two gold buttons. Underneath this, she wears a low cut yellow crop top with her emblem on the left breast in black. She also wore a pair of tight black spandex compression shorts that reach her upper thighs. On her legs wore a pair of brown, knee-high boots and orange over-the-knee socks.
"Why not, Yang?" said a third girl that responded to the name Weiss. This wore a white dress and boots to compliment her white hair which was held up in an asymmetrical ponytail.
Before anything else could be said the youngest spoke out,
"Guys look over there!" the one who spoke wore a black and red coreset and dress with some boots as well. Her hair was short and dark but became red at the tips.
The girls looked over to where the youngest pointed. To see two unusual ship docked close to them.
"Whoa," Said Yang, "They look like those ships from old pirate movies. Right Ruby?"
"Yea... Though I never see one in real life before" Responded the one who was wearing red.
The brunette suppressed the urge to roll her eyes. However, Ruby did have a point; While some smaller vessel still had masts, The threat of Grimm had ensured that even for those vessels: wind was a secondary means of propulsion. But these ships looked like their primary method of propulsion was wind. For instance, one word she would describe the two vessels was tall; both vessels had three masts that towered over most ships around them. The faunus in secret could also make out rolled up canvas everywhere on the masts and rigging. It was obvious that these ships were built to use as much of the wind as possible.
As they got closer the hidden faunus could see many men crowded around the bigger pale yellow and black ship. When she finally got close enough, she saw a woman and a man standing around a wooden barrel. The woman was dressed oddly. She wore clothing that look extremely similar to what naval officer would wear in those movies Yang mentioned earlier. She wore white breeches and black boots, decorated with gold designs that came up to her thighs. She wore a black jacket that had gold lines and gold buttons with a red and gold interior. The jacket had two tails and the jacket seem to hide a garter belt as both boots had a belt that went under the jacket. To top it off the woman wore what seemed to be an admiral's jacket though she wore like cape that was probably in order to allow her to breathe. On her neck was a necklace with red jewel.
The blond woman waited as the dock worker seem to dip some kind of cup in the barrel. After he toke a sip of what looked like rum, he nodded and made a gesture with his hand that seemed to tell his men to board the ship. Soon enough they came back with more wooden barrels on their shoulders
"Blake, do you have any idea why they are here? ," Yang asked the Brunette.
"Yes, the one painted pale yellow has a slight list. They may be here for repairs," Blake answered. Blake's team began to argue on what could have and how exactly was the ship damaged; Blake tuned them out as she was now close enough to eavesdrop on what the strangers were saying and found that more interesting. Blake also saw another figure approached the blonde woman. The newcomer was also a brunette, and her clothing was overall, very similar to the blond's. However, with the exception of her boots, the new girl's clothes were blue and black instead of black and red. Also, the brunette did not have an admiral's coat and her blue jacket had much shorter tails.
"I guess alcohol is valuable no matter where you go," Blake heard the blond one joke.
The brunette chuckled, "Aye...Do think he is going to sell it through legal means?"
"Does it matter? All we have to do is throw the remaining rum overboard and the alcohol cannot be traced back to us,"
"I suppose so," said the Brunette, "You know this place reminds a lot of home,"
"Aye," The blonde said before the two lapse for a moment of silence.
The Brunette spoke again after a moment, "Come on, we couldn't afford a tug so getting you into drydock is going to be pain in the ass,"
The Blonde nodded as they both proceed to board their respective ships. Assuming there was nothing else to listen to Blake turn back to her team, only to find out she had lost pace with them as they were now stood in front of a store that seemed to have been robbed. Blake began to frown deeply as she approached her team and heard Weiss blame the White Fang for the attack on the store.
