Chapter 20: Danny's Decision

Danny smiled when he saw his gothic friend at the door.

"Sam, you're back..."Danny said, happy to see her.

"When did you come back? I thought you were still out of town due to your folks being too snobby for spare tires or something..."Tucker said.

"I managed to get home a little while ago. Thankfully, grandma decided to take care of things and my folks..."She said before staring at the ghost boy.

"So...what did I miss and who's Katie?..."Sam had to ask again.

Tucker became as pale as the ghosts they fight while Danny remained clueless.

"She's the new girl at school, she just moved here a few days ago..."The ghost boy explained while Tucker hoped he wouldn't spill the beans further than that.

No such luck, as the ghost boy kept talking.

"I've been seeing her the past few days. Didn't think I'd get a girlfriend so quickly..."Danny said, scratching his chin.

"Girlfriend?..."Sam said in a low tone.

Tucker gulped and got nervous while Danny had a sheepish look.

"Uh...yeah...I sorta...agreed to start dating her..."Danny said.

Sam had one eye twitching uncontrollably and Tucker got worried.

"Just so you know, I had no idea until I got back..."Tucker said, wanting to be clear that this happened while he had been out of town and he had nothing to do with them getting together.

Danny raised a brow at that.

"Uh...yeah...it actually happened last Friday..."Danny said. "A little after you guys left...I met Katie in the park and we sorta...I dunno...one thing lead to another and we got together..."He explained. "You know, she even thought the ghosts were a publicity stunt until they actually showed up..."He added, laughing a bit and finding it funny in hindsight.

Sam, on the other hand, was having trouble processing this new information.

"I wasn't even gone a day and this happens?!..."Sam thought as she tried to keep a straight face.

She took a breath to try and speak calmly.

"So let me get this straight...you meet some girl who didn't even knew ghosts were real and you thought it was a good idea to date her..."Sam said, keeping a fake smile to hide her thoughts.

"Exactly..."Danny said, not getting her issue.

Sam's eye was twitching, keeping that fake smile.

"Well...I can't wait to meet her..." She lied through her teeth.

"And... you will... right after I break up with her..." Danny said quickly.

Sam's pained attempt to look civil dropped, as soon as his words reached her.

"Uh... say what?..." She asked.

"I said I'm breaking up with her..."Danny said and even Sam seemed surprised to hear that.

"Now?..." She asked.

The ghost boy nodded as he sighed deeply as he continued.

"She's... not a bad person. I'm sure... give it a few years, I might be more open to the boyfriend thing with her but... not now. She's WAY too clingy and overly affectionate. It's not that I don't like her... I just don't like her enough to want to keep this up..." He said, part of him conflicted.

"Not to mention, she doesn't seem to understand that I can't always be by her side the minute she wants me to be..."He added, as he remembered what happened earlier today with her.

"Besides, cute or not, she seems to be rushing things so much that I can barely keep up..."He thought, recalling the past few days.

He got kissed by her on their first date (or made out with her to be more specific), she said she loves him just a few days after that, she's met his parents and now seems to be getting even more attached to him if it's possible. If things keep going at the rate they are going, she might be expecting a ring or something before they graduate...and not the class ring like his dad once suggested he'd give Valerie.

He's just not ready for all of that...at least not now. He just wished that she'd understood that but each time he tries to bring it up, she either suffocates him with her kisses or giggles and thinks he's being funny or shy.

It's just too much for him...not to mention that she's already inadvertently got in the way of his super hero duties...

She's just too much for him to handle right now.

"Plus we don't know how she'll react to you being Danny Phantom..." Tucker added.

"That too..."Danny admitted, looking lost.

Sam, meanwhile, kept making that face.

"Okay... I should be happy but breaking up when it hasn't even been a week? That's way too soon..."She thought.

Danny saw the expression on Sam's face and misunderstood it, thinking that she didn't agree with the idea.

"Look Sam, you can save the lecture... I already know it's a bad move...plus, clingy or not, Katie's just a normal human with no experience in this sort of thing. Sure, she's nice and pretty and she deserves someone who likes her but she doesn't seem to understand some boundaries or personal space. Not to mention, she's already gotten hurt during a fight and it's on me. I'm trying to figure out how to break up with her without things getting messy. I just don't want to hurt her..."He explained while Tucker shook his head.

"Dude, unless its mutual... someone always gets hurt in a breakup..." Tucker chimed in.

"I know..."Danny said, as he recalled the time Valerie broke up with him.

It hurt a lot and he doesn't want to put Katie through that but he has no choice. He can't keep this up and if it goes on, it's gonna end badly for the both of them.

Sam saw her point to step in.

"Tucker's right, Danny..."Sam said, less angry than before. "But if you feel like its the right thing to do, then we won't get in your way..."She said while Tucker sent her a frown.

"She just can't handle any competition..."He thought as she sent him a look.

He knew Danny was too clueless to figure out Sam's feelings and Sam was too chicken to tell him how she felt. For now, she's doing this for his sake.

"Thanks for that..." Danny said, feeling less pressure but still not happy about this whole thing.

"Just out of curiosity, what does Katie even look like and what's she like?..."Sam asked, wondering about who the girl is that Danny is about to break up with.

Danny sighed as he pulled out his phone and showed a digital picture to his female friend. Sam's eyes widen when she saw her appearance.

"Blonde and perky looking, of course..."Sam thought in disbelief.

Both at the fact that this girl looks like she can be on par with some A-List girls...and that she seems to be super clingy to Danny, who now wants to break up with her.

"I'm not surprised you agreed so fast, she actually seems out of your league..."Sam couldn't help but say.

Danny groaned.

"I know, I've been told that..."He said.

"She also looks like she's hanging on to your arm pretty tight..."The goth muttered in mild jealousy, not that the ghost boy noticed.

"Yeah, she's been doing that a lot lately and more, it's been getting a little overwhelming..."He said, now partially regretting how much he enjoy those displays of affection at first. "It's gonna make breaking up with her harder..."He muttered.

"Well, it's probably better to get it over with quickly..."Sam said, hoping that this will all be over soon.

Danny groaned.

"Yeah, probably..."He said, knowing that this isn't going to be easy.

He had to find a way to let Katie down gently, like he said, she isn't a bad person...she's just really clingy and a little crazy at times. Still, he didn't want her to get hurt.

"I just hope she won't be too mad when it happens..."He thought, knowing that tomorrow wasn't going to be easy at all.

With Katie

Katie had told her parents what happened with Tinker and reassured them that his fine now and that Danny had helped her.

Now, the blonde girl was in her bedroom, writing in her diary as she as she thought about how today went with her wonderful, wonderful boyfriend whom she loves so much.

"Oh Danny, I don't think I'll ever get tired of kissing you...my dear, sweet Pookie-Bear..."She thought as she let out a loving sigh as she daydreamed about him.

She recalled their time at the water park and how he looked underneath that white tank top that hid such a toned figure he kept hidden under his baggy clothes...and how cute he got when he tried to play hard to get before he helped her get Tinker home.

Sure, he might still be shy around her but she just knows it's because he's probably still not used to having a girl as pretty as her being in love with him but she is sure that with enough time, he'll loosen up and love her as much as she loves him.

She just knows it.

"Oh, Danny..."She sighed again as she went to writing about him in her diary again.

Unknown to the cute blonde, tomorrow would be a day filled with many surprises.

Oh boy.
