Goin' KABOOM!

Chapter 21: Danny's Decision II

The Next Day

It was Friday and also the final day before students were allowed to come back to school.

Danny had woken up early and recruited his best friends and sister in order to help him with his goal today.

To break up with Katie Kaboom as quickly and painlessly as possible.

"Danny, are you sure about this? It seems you're getting nervous..."Jazz asked.

Danny sighed.

"I have to Jazz...I don't wanna hurt Katie but this relationship isn't working out..."He said.

"Plus, I'm still getting freaked out by how she gets gets around me..."He mentally added but chose not to say.

It was best to do this soon, before Katie got even more attached or before she's hurt by a ghost.

"So...can you guys help me?...I never broke up with someone before and I don't wanna hurt her..."Danny said.

"You just have to firm, Danny..."Sam said, making it clear that she wants this done with soon.

Tucker and Jazz sent her a glare at that but sighed. It was Danny's choice to end things with Katie and from how he's described things, it probably is for the best but still, San should show a little sympathy for this girl.

They decide not to say anything, focusing on this matter at hand.

"Well, little brother...all I can say is that to be clear on your words, the last thing you want is to lead her on or make her think that you were toying with her the whole time..."Jazz said.

"Yeah...and let me know when you do it so I can catch her on the rebound..."Tucker said, only to get ribbed by Sam and slapped by Jazz.

"Ow! What?!..."Tucker complained.

"Time and place..."Jazz said.

"And you wonder why Valerie and Star never call..."Sam added while Tucker grumbled.

Danny ignored this and sighed deeply as he tried to practice what he was going to say.

"So...how do I do this?..."Danny asked.

"Be gentle and firm..."Jazz said, giving an encouraging smile.

"And don't be like one of those creeps who runs away when it happens or break up with a girl on a text message or phone call..."Sam warned.

While she already didn't like this Katie girl for personal reasons (despite having still not met her), even she didn't want her to go through that. That's too impersonal, even for her.

"I'd never do that..."Danny defended himself.

"Then you're good to go..."Jazz said while her brother sighed and began to practice.

"Okay...Katie...you're a great girl and I've had fun...but I don't think this is working out...I wanna call it quits, I just have too much on my plate right now for... us..."Danny tried.

The three sent him nods. Danny smiled, thinking he pulled it off.

However, his phone started to ring and he paled when he saw that it was Katie.

"Oh man, it's Katie..."Danny said

"Well, answer it..."Jazz said.

"Put it on speaker phone, hurry..."Sam ordered, while the rest stared silently.

Danny reluctantly answered the phone and cleared his throat.

"H-Hey Katie..."Danny stammered, hoping it'd be quick.

"Hey Pookie-Bear, I've been missing your voice..."Katie's voice was heard and Danny flinched in embarrassment when she said that.

The ghost boy tried to ignore the looks his friends and sister were sending him and how Tucker tried hard not to laugh.

"Uh..so...what's up?..."Danny asked nervously.

"Oh, just wanted to hear your cute voice..."Katie's flirty voice was heard.

Sam narrowed her eyes at that but chose to remain calm.

"Easy Sam, he's already going to break up with her...so, relax and stay calm..."The goth girl reminded herself as her friend kept talking on the phone.

"Anyway, I was wondering what you're up to..."Katie said.

"Uh...well...you see...my friend Sam came back home and we're catching up..."Danny was saying now as Katie spoke before he could continue.

"That's great, I can't wait to meet him..."Katie said in a perky way.

"HIM?! She thinks I'm a boy?!..." Sam thought angrily.

Danny didn't notice as he just wanted to end this fast before Katie says something they'd both regret.

"Uh... okay. I'll see you later..." Danny said, hanging up before Katie could continue.

Once he hung up, he sighed and saw the reactions on his friends and sister's face.

"Pookie-Bear?..."Sam asked incredulously while Tucker looked like he was trying hard not to laugh before he started doing just that, Jazz even cracked a small smile at how ridiculous that sounded.

Danny blushed in embarrassment and dragged his hand down his face.

"I swear I never agreed to that name..."He insisted while the others shared sympathetic looks.

All but Tucker, who needed a slap from both girls to stop.

"Sorry..." He said.

"Anyway... I need to do this before Skulker or whoever attacks and she won't let go of me." Danny says.

"We also have to find that monster ASAP..."Tucker reminded.

"Monster?..."Sam questioned.

"Long story..."Danny said as he began to explain his gothic friend his recent encounters.

"I have no idea where it came from but I know I have to find it..."Danny said, determined.

"After I break things off with Katie..."He added as he wanted that matter settled first.

"Okay, we better find this thing...and soon since me and my protest group have to make plans for our tyrannical foes and get them to set those endangered hippos in the zoo back in the wild, so they can roam free..."Sam said, crossing her arms.

Jazz rose one eyebrow.

"You are aware those endangered hippos are in there for a reason... right? Also, not every zoos are prisons, right?..."The red head asked.

"That's what the man wants you to think!..." Sam said indignantly.

The others sent her a look while Danny sighed, as he knew today is NOT going to be easy at all.

Later

Danny, his sister and friends all went to the direction of Katie's house.

Danny took a breath.

"Okay... here it goes... Man, this feels harder than I thought... and last month I fought a giant ghost mantis..." He muttered to himself.

"I really wish my folks had a spare tire..."Sam thought, regretting not being home to have stopped things from going this far.

As the group of teenagers kept walking and talking about what has to be done, Danny couldn't help but hear...singing in a nearby alleyway.

"Alone, are we... Hungry, are we~..."Was being sung.

"Huh?..."Danny said as his friends and sister blinked.

They looked inside the nearby alley, only to see a cat and dog rummaging through garbage cans.

"Weird...where did that singing come from?..."Danny asked.

"Maybe someone left a radio on or something..."Tucker suggested but the place looked like no person has been here.

"Come on, let's keep going..."Sam said insistently.

Team Phantom kept walking but unknown to them, the cat sent them a puzzled look while her canine friend pulled out a discarded drumstick from the garbage can.

The cat dropped her confused look as they began sharing it, paying no mind to the people who passed.

A few moments later

Danny and company were about 4 blocks away from Katie's house and the ghost boy is getting even morenervous.

"Okay... maybe her house isn't a good idea..."Danny said, getting weak kneed.

"Danny, relax..."Tucker said.

"Yeah, it's like ripping a bandaid off, do it quick..."Jazz added.

"Plus, you clearly don't want to be with her..."Sam said, ignoring the flat look Jazz sent her.

Danny took a deep breath and nodded.

"You're right, quick..."He said as they kept going.

All the while, a trio of pigeons had been nearby, nibbling on some breadcrums on the street but they heard the conversation.

The pigeons shared confused looks before they went back to eating.

A little later

Danny soon arrived to the spot where Katie told him to meet her.

He is there with the others and he is still nervous as crazy.

"Oh man... I wish superheroes had a manual for dating... with break ups as a chapter..." He muttered as he rang the doorbell.

Soon, the pretty blonde girl appeared and smiled as soon as she saw him.

"Hey you..."Katie said as she wrapped her arms around him and kiss his cheek.

Danny felt uncomfortable with the affection, especially given what has to be done.

Sam, on the other hand, was clenching her fists.

"Keep calm, you can't do anything... yet..."The goth girl thought as Katie finally released Danny.

However, the blonde girl saw her and felt a moment of jealousy forming but kept control.

"Danny...sweetie...who is this?..."Katie asked in a controlled voice.

"Yeah...Katie...this is Sam...one of my best friends..."Danny said.

"This is Sam..."Katie thought as she eyed the girl.

She had thought Sam was a guy but now she knew it wasn't. Still, the blonde girl tried to be nice.

"It's nice to meet you, Sam. It's always a pleasure meeting my BOYFRIEND'S friends..."Katie said in a fake sweet voice.

Sam narrowed her eyes at that but kept a fake smile too

"Likewise, I see how attached you've become..."Sam said, hiding her anger in her words.

Katie could tell her words were meant as an insult, but chose to say nothing around Danny.

Katie faked a laugh before turning to her boyfriend.

"So, Danny...I was wondering if maybe we could have a picnic in the park together..."Katie said as she pulled out a picnic basket.

"Uh...well...actually..."Danny began.

"One moment, Katie..."Jazz said as she pulled her brother away for a private conversation.

"What is it?" He asks in a whisper.

"It's better to do it privately when no one is around...and to do it tactfully and quick..."Jazz said.

She didn't like the thought of Katie getting hurt since she is harmless, but her brother has made his feelings clear...still, the very least it could be done peacefully.

Danny nodded and saw her point.

"Okay..."He said.

He soon left with Katie to their picnic, all the while Sam narrowed her eyes at the blonde girl.

"The sooner the better..."Sam muttered.

Jazz frowned.

"It's not like she wants to make his life worse..."Jazz scolded and Tucker nodded.

"Plus, I think I can still catch her on the rebound..."He said while the goth girl sent an icy glare at him.

The rest of Team Phantom just hoped that this would be resolved peacefully and fast.
