Chapter 23: The Monster Returns
Previously
Danny quickly sucked the annoying ghost into the thermos, trapping him there.
"Finally..."He muttered as he changed forms.
He decided to get back to the picnic area and finish what he had to do with Katie...the sooner, the better.
However, this was interrupted as he heard a loud noise, an explosion of all things.
KABOOM!
"What the-..."Danny exclaimed as he heard the explosion, then the sounds of a loud roar and people screaming.
"COME BACK HERE!..."Was heard and Danny recognized the voice.
"THE MONSTER!..."Danny exclaimed as he took off.
Present Time
With Monster Katie
The female monster was stomping around the park for her targets to punish them.
"WHERE ARE YOU?!..."Monster Katie roared, frightening everyone into running away.
She soon found who she was looking for, those terrible girls who insulted her and made fun of her boyfriend and their love for each other, as well as made him run away.
"THERE YOU ARE!..."Monster Katie shouted as she smiled savagely at them.
"AHHHHHHH!..."Paulina and Star both screamed as they both ran for their lives.
"GET BACK HERE!..."Monster Katie shouted as she ran to them.
"YOU WILL PAY!..."Monster Katie shouted as she ran to them.
"What did we do?!..." Star asked as she kept running.
"Who knows?! And who cares?! We gotta get out of here!..." Paulina shrieked.
The two girls then split up, separating but Monster Katie decided to after Paulina first, since she still had a grudge on her for what she said on her first day of school.
"YOU HAVE THIS COMING!..."Monster Katie shouted as her rampage continued.
Meanwhile
The rest of Team Phantom had been on their way to the park, as per Sam's insistance since she wanted to see if Danny broke up with Katie yet or not but knowing his luck, he got interrupted by the box ghost or Johnny 13 going on a joy ride again.
Still, she chose to do this.
"You aware he can call us, right?..." Jazz asked.
"I wanna hear it as soon as it happens..." Sam stated.
Both Jazz and Tucker shared disapproving looks.
"She should just tell him..." They both thought, tired of this.
Before they could voice their complaints, something else caught their attention. Jazz, Tucker and Sam saw the monster from a distance.
"New ghost?..."Sam questioned as she pulled out her wrist ray.
"It's not a ghost..."Jazz and Tucker both said, shocking Sam.
"What?!..."Sam exclaimed.
"Sam...meet the monster whose been kicking our best friends butt all week..." Tucker explained as he explained more on it.
"So, this is the non-ghost monster, huh?..."Sam said, processing the information.
"Why is it going after Star and Paulina?..."She had to ask.
"No idea..."Tucker admitted as he shrugged.
"Well, it went after Dash on Monday..." Jazz answered.
"And it's angry all the time..."Tucker added.
"Why? And what exactly is it if it's not a ghost?..." Sam asked.
"We don't know what it is... we just know we'd be useless in this fight..." Tucker said.
"He's right... Danny is the only one who can do any kind of damage to this thing..." Jazz said.
Sam didn't like this but she did see Danny appear in the sky and head towards that very beast.
"I guess he's got this..."Sam said, not liking being on the sidelines but also knowing that Danny would call them if he REALLY needs them.
Meanwhile
Monster Katie now cornered a cowering Paulina, who clung to the tree and was shaking with fear.
"Please don't. I'm too pretty...all the boys at school will be crushed!..."Paulina begged.
"NOT AS CRUSHED AS YOU!..."Monster Katie shouted as the girl whimpered more.
"Please, don't hurt me. I haven't even kiss the ghost boy yet!..."Paulina begged once more.
"YOU DON'T DESERVE IT ANYWAY!..."Monster Katie shouted as she raised a foot.
However, Danny appeared and pulled Paulina to safety.
"Ghost boy, you saved me..."Paulina gushed as she tried to kiss him but Danny pushed her away and hovered away.
"Glad you're alive, Now run... Run!..."Danny ordered as Monster Katie snarled at him.
"YOU AGAIN?! Stay out of my way!..."Monster Katie shouted at him.
Paulina wasted no time in running to safety, while Danny glared at the female beast who was seething with anger.
"WHY DO YOU BOTHER ME?!..."Monster Katie shouted at him.
"Funny, I was gonna ask you the same thing...there's a reason I keep it up with you, BECAUSE YOU'RE A MENACE!..."Danny said back, feeling angry this creature appeared at the worst possible time.
"I'll just take my frustrations of not breaking up with Katie out on this thing..." He said to himself.
He fired a ghost ray at its face, which did seem to hurt it a bit, but it also angered it further.
It huffed angrily as the eyes glowed brighter.
However, to Danny's shock, the monster then grew ten feet bigger and began to morph into an even more horrifying form, which is a winged beast with firey eyes. It was also breathing fire out of frustration and rage..
"Oh great...it can shape-shift too..."Danny muttered as he remained determined to beat it.
"STAY OUT OF MY WAY!..."The beast yelled as it extended its new additions to its body.
With bat wings in place of arms, the monster flew at Danny, who reacted by shooting upward to avoid the attack.
He was momentarily relieved, but the monster grew a tail, one that slapped him out of the air.
"Of course..." He thought miserably.
When Danny crashed into the bushes, he changed forms.
"Ouch...it's like...I don't know...it's getting stronger...but how?..."Danny let out as the monster kept roaring and he heard the footsteps get closer.
Danny quickly crawled out of the bushes and behind a tree, just in time to see the monster stomp on the bush he had been in.
"That was way too close for comfort..."He said as the monster kept throwing a tantrum, almost like an angry kid.
"WHERE IS HE?!..."The monster yelled loudly before noticing Danny.
"Uh oh...it saw me!..."Danny thought in a panic as the beast was now a few feet away.
He worried it would attack him while he was down. However, the monster, who noticed Danny in his human form...actually stopped for a moment.
It stared at the boy, calming down a bit as it showed more of its razor sharp fangs. Its mouth widened, reaching the ears.
For the first time, it didn't look angry.
Danny blinked as the monster now seemed calm...and...was it smiling now?...at him?
"Huh?..."Danny blinked in confusion as the monster's strange behavior.
However, it ended when the creature received hits in it's back...
"GAH!..."The monster yelled, getting angry again.
Danny saw that it was Valerie in her ghost hunting gear, who saw the monster near him and panicked.
"Run, Danny..."Valerie shouted.
Danny, despite his confusion, did so and tried to find a place to morph again, while the monster began attacking Valerie.
"You hurt me! STAY OUT OF THIS!..."The monster snarled at Valerie.
Once Danny returned as Danny Phantom, he was in time to see Valerie out of rockets, the smoke blocking the sight of the monster. She noticed Phantom, but didn't attack, instead looking pleased with herself.
She thought she had won the battle.
"Well... looks like someone was slow..."
Then a roar happened, the smoke cleared and the monster was still present.
"STUPID SHOOTY GIRL!..."The beast shouted.
Valerie fired her wrist blasters the monster shrugged off the blows like they were nothing, she tried to use her own thermos to suck it in but nothing happened.
"Wait...why aren't these things working?..."Valerie asked in a stunned voice.
"Uh... there's a reason for that..." Danny said, but Valerie ignored him.
"Drop dead already, you stupid ghost..."Valerie snapped as she kept firing at the beast.
"I'M NOT A GHOST! I'M A-..."The monster was cut off when she got hit in the back as well.
"Pain in the butt, right Ugly?..."Danny mocked.
The monster growled louder and got angrier.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!..."The monster yelled as it's anger made it even bigger and now flames surrounded it's body, the heat reaching the two even from high up.
Both of them shielded themselves with their arms at the sight of it.
"Okay, didn't know it could do that..."Danny said as the beast kept burning..
Valerie opened one eye, directed at Danny.
"Phantom! What the heck is this thing?! What's it doing?..."Valerie demanded as usual blaming him when something went wrong.
"It's not a ghost... I don't know what it is... only that it's definitely a danger to Amity Park..." Danny said.
"What do mean it's not a-..."They were cut off as the creature flew up and swiped them down with the tail.
The monster let out a furious roar as it punched the ground hard. This created shockwaves that sent both Danny and Valerie flying into each other and several feet away. The monster snarled at them before looking around and didn't see them.
"GOOD RIDDANCE!..."The monster yelled, stomping away and decide to find its original target.
Unknown to the creature, it's unaware the two were not thrown far enough.
"Phantom, get off me!..." Valerie demanded, pushing him off before pointing a blaster at his head.
"My life is really something when I don't even flinch at stuff like this..." Danny thought as his ex-girlfriend began aiming a blaster at him, as usual.
"I don't know what that thing was but I know you have something to do with it...NOW TALK!..." Valerie demanded.
The ghost boy rolled his eyes at that.
"Seriously? Do you think I'm responsible for everything? Even if your milk goes spoiled?..." He asked.
"Just talk!..."She demanded again and the ghost boy sighed.
'I don't have time for this...look, as much as I'd love to let you deal with your anger issues, I've got ACTUAL superhero stuff to do so, like stopping that thing and not let the city turn to ash!..."He yelled.
Valerie realized his point and begrudgingly let down her weapon for a moment.
"How?..."Valerie asked.
"I don't know... but I might need your help..."He said.
Valerie sent him a suspicious look before looking at her gadgets and realizing what little effect they had on that beast.
"My weapons are built to fight ghosts... so I won't be much of a threat..." She said.
"I don't mean in defeating it..."He clarified.
"Okay, then what are you gonna do?..."Valerie asked with a raised brow.
"Every single time I fight that thing, it suddenly disappears and it shows up again at the weirdest times, attacking everything and then vanishing again without leaving a sign..."Danny explained.
"Maybe it has a crush on you and is too scared to say it..."Valerie said sarcastically.
Danny ignored that and focused more on the beast that it still tearing most of the area to pieces.
"I have an idea... I don't know where this thing will go, but I have a way..." He pulled out what looked like a robotic insect, one Valerie didn't recognize.
"Why does that look like Plasmius?..."The female hunter asked.
"It used to be one of his, but a friend reprogrammed it so that we can track it. Find where it goes and maybe take it down when its guard is dropped. I just need a distraction..." Danny said.
"And I should help why?..." Valerie asked.
"Because, as you pointed out, your weapons have little effect, and you have no means of tracking where this thing goes..."He pointed out.
"Fair point..."Valerie said begrudgingly.
"Okay, I need you to hit that thing. Even if you can't hurt it, you might tick it off enough so that it doesn't see you. But we'll need to do this fast..."He said.
"Why?..."Valerie asked suspiciously.
Danny flinched and sighed.
"I... gotta get back to my girlfriend..." He admits, looking sheepish.
Valerie did a double take.
"YOU have a girlfriend?..." She questioned.
"Yeah, why? Surprised ghosts date?"..."Danny said, not mentioning the upcoming breakup since it wasn't something she needed to know.
"No... surprised any girl would date a guy with grandpa hair..." She couldn't help but make a crack with her arms crossed.
Danny scowled.
"Wow... that's the most damage you've done all day... now can we get back to this?..." Danny said as he began explaining more of the plan to his rival/ex.
