Chapter 24: The Monster Returns Part 2
Previously
"And I should help why?..." Valerie asked.
"Because, as you pointed out, your weapons have little effect, and you have no means of tracking where this thing goes..."He pointed out.
"Fair point..."Valerie said begrudgingly.
"Okay, I need you to hit that thing. Even if you can't hurt it, you might tick it off enough so that it doesn't see you. But we'll need to do this fast..."He said.
"Why?..."Valerie asked suspiciously.
Danny flinched and sighed.
"I... gotta get back to my girlfriend..." He admits, looking sheepish.
Valerie did a double take.
"YOU have a girlfriend?..." She questioned.
"Yeah, why? Surprised ghosts date?..."Danny said, not mentioning the upcoming breakup since it wasn't something she needed to know.
"No... surprised any girl would date a guy with grandpa hair..." She couldn't help but make a crack with her arms crossed.
Danny scowled.
"Wow... that's the most damage you've done all day... now can we get back to this?..." Danny said as he began explaining more of the plan to his rival/ex.
Present Time
Monster Katie kept looking around for her target, for both Paulina and Star but it seems that they had fled while Danny and Valerie fought her.
"WHERE IS SHE?!..." She cried out in anger.
However, someone flew in from behind.
It's Valerie who was firing at her again.
"Hey, Grumpzilla! Open wide!..."The female hunter called out.
The rocket went into its mouth, exploding, but not hurting it. It did, however, get angry.
"STUPID SURFBOARD GIRL!..."The beast yelled at her.
"It's NOT a surfboard!..." Valerie shouted before darting her eyes away.
"Although... I have been meaning to-..."She was cut off when the monster roared and came running after her.
Unknown to the beast, Danny was waiting for the right moment. Once she looked to its left, her arm was exposed and not in her line of sight.
"It's not getting away this time..."Danny said, as he pulled out the tracking device.
He quickly aimed and tossed it. He saw the device clamped onto her arm and she didn't seem to notice.
"Got it..."Danny said, grinning.
With that, he shot at the creature's head, causing her to look back. Instead of Danny, who turned invisible, it saw the park was now abandoned.
The female beast took notice of the destruction and saw that all of her targets were gone and that it was starting to feel a little tired.
"She's gone..." The monster said, looking disappointed before flying into the trees.
There, it shrank, much to Valerie's surprise.
"Huh?..."She let out.
She flew in its direction but when she got there, she found nothing.
"What?!..." She thought as she looked around and found no sigh of the beast.
She saw no footprints, no scratches, no indication it was ever there.
"Okay... I don't see where it went... maybe-..." Valerie turned her head and looked around.
"Phantom?..."She looked around and frowned.
He disappeared.
"Great, the one time I don't want to blast him..."She muttered as she shook her head.
"That gadget better work..." Valerie grumbled before the timer on her phone went off. "Crud... I gotta be home in 10 minutes..."She added.
If not, her dad will find out she's been out hunting ghosts again.
She quickly flew off but she didn't notice that from behind several trees where she was, a certain blonde girl was gripping her head and seemed dazed.
"What happened? Where am I?..."She said as she looked around and saw the damage.
She gasped.
"Oh man...was there another ghost attack? But...where's Danny?..."This blonde girl wondered as she started to get worried and searched for him.
With Danny
The ghost boy went behind a tree and changed back to his human form.
He smirked as he pulled out his cellphone, which is linked to the tracking device he planted on the beast.
"Now when that thing does its Houdini act, I'll be able to track it down and kick it out of Amity Park for good..."Danny thought, ready to get going.
However, one roadblock got in his way.
"DANNY!..."A perky voice was heard and Danny soon found himself hugged by Katie.
"Oh yeah, forgot about that..."Danny thought as the blonde girl lifted him a big off the ground a moment, catching him off guard by her strength.
"Oh, you're okay..."Katie said as she began kissing his cheek.
"Oh man...I wouldn't call this okay..."Danny thought as he realized he groaned as she squeezed him harder.
The ghost boy didn't want this but then noticed that he could only see Katie. He noticed that they were now alone and realized that now was the perfect time.
"Katie, I need to tell you something..."Danny said as he wriggled out of her embrace.
"Sure thing, Cutie..."Katie said sweetly and Danny sighed.
"Time to rip off this bandage..."Danny thought, taking a deep breath. "Okay... here we go..."He thought, deciding to get it over with before any more interruptions happen.
He was about to speak up, but saw a bump on her arm, hidden by the sleeve, with a red light on it.
"Katie, what's that on your arm?..."He asks, noticing the weird bump under her shirt sleeve.
"Hmm? Good question."She said. She reached in through the opening of her shirt and pulled it out. "What's this doohickey?..."She asked.
Danny's eyes widened.
"That's... Tucker's tracking device... Why would it be on her? I put it on the monster..." Danny thought, confused.
Then a dark thought occurred to Danny as some things suddenly dawned on him.
Katie never acknowledged the monster, she always disappears when the monster does and reappears when it goes away, the monster attacking anyone or anything that angered Katie like Dash did, the fact that it never harmed him as Danny Fenton...if anything...the monster had seemed...calm when it came across him before going back to it's rampage...almost like it knew him.
That couldn't be a coincidence.
Suddenly, a train of thoughts stormed by as the boy connected the dots... but this was starting to make sense now.
What if Katie was the monster that has been causing trouble all over Amity Park?
The ghost boy saw it to fit in some of the strange coincidences with one another, but wasn't total convinced yet.
"No..it can't be...Katie might be crazy but she's still nice and obviously human. She... she couldn't be the monster, could she?..."He thought in dread.
However, Katie and the monster came to Amity Park at the same time. They were both at the park and at the school. Each was seen when the other was absent and both came from out of town, probably.
He also just realized that he'd never seen them in the same room or place and he has never heard her once mention seeing the monster after it showed up. She and it were never seen together even though they've always been in the same general area, making it unlikely she'd never see it.
It was the only thing that made sense, but he had to ask to be sure.
"Uh... Katie?..."He asked in a hesitant tone.
"Yes, Pookie-bear?..."Katie asked, still smiling cutely.
He flinched at that name, but decided to keep going.
"Out of curiosity... where were you about 20 minutes ago...and up until now?..." He asks.
She was about to answer, but found herself drawing a blank.
"Good question. I remember getting upset and... that was it. I guess those ghosts really did a number here, huh?..."She said as she looked around, not seeing the stunned look on the boy's face.
It hit him.
"That thing did this... not me or the Box Ghost. She must have no memory... it has to be her! But how?!..."He thought in disbelief.
Katie winced in paid as she swung her hand.
"Again? Why do I keep getting these cramps in my hands and legs?!..." She complained while the boy looked at her hand.
It was the same hand he injured on the monster, the final proof he needed for his theory to be true.
"I...I'm dating a monster? I MADE OUT WITH A MONSTER?!..."Danny thought in growing horror.
This was looking awful for him, especially since Katie seemed unaware of what she was.
Things got worse for him as Katie wrapped her arms around him, not noticing his issues.
"So, Sweetie. Let's get back to what we were doing..."Katie said, fluttering her eyelashes.
Danny gulped as the color drained from his face as he realizes that he's about to be kissed by the same monster that almost pummeled him more then once, in a way far worse than any ghost has done..
"Why me?!..."He thought as her lips pressed on his, kissing him hard while he was just thinking about how she'd decked him earlier.
Danny is trying his best not to think of Katie's monster form while she's kissing him but her once soft touch now felt like barb wire and the ghost boy shuddered.
Once she pulled back, she looked into his eyes. With all the hearts blinding her, Katie couldn't see the emotions swirling in the ghost boy.
To Katie, he looked like a nervous school boy trying to not embarrass himself in front of a pretty girl. She even giggled at the funny look on his face.
"Ooh, he's enjoying this a little much...Oh, Danny...you're so precious..."Katie thought, still in love.
Danny on the other hand, felt mortified at the fact that he just locked lips with the monster that nearly beat him up...and that he has been doing so for almost a week without realizing it.
"Oh man!..."He thought, almost shivered as his eyes were now full of dread as he stared back into hers.
He was looking at a really cute face right now...the same that had kissed him all week but right now, all he can see is that monster's horrifying snarling face, it made him want to pass out...especially when she got that flirty look in her eye again as she leaned in for more.
"I should never have stopped in the park that day..."He thought as he began to sweat profusely as she started making out with him.
All the while, Operation: Break Up wasn't just a failure, it was now out of the question.
