A loud thump is heard from inside the bathroom which instantly makes Derek very worried.
"Mer? Meredith? Are you okay in there?" He gets up and walks to the bathroom door.
No response from Meredith.
"Meredith, say something. If you don't answer I'm coming in!" Derek waits a few seconds and still doesn't hear anything so he opens the door and gasps at Meredith laying unconscious on the ground.
Derek quickly gets down onto his knees and tries to wake up Meredith.
"Mer, wake up. Wake up Meredith." Meredith doesn't open her eyes.
"I need some help in here!" Derek yells.
A few nurses come running in and they see Meredith on the floor unconscious. They notice that Meredith accidentally pulled out her IV when she fell on it, already starting to leave a huge bruise behind.
"She passed out!" Derek says worriedly. I heard a thump a minute or so ago and found her like this. Can you page Dr Bailey?"
A nurse pages Dr Bailey while trying to wake up Meredith.
Meredith starts to wake up a minute later just as Dr Bailey is coming in. "Wh-what happened?" She whispers.
"You passed out. You're okay. We're going to get you back into bed. Did you hit your head?" Dr Bailey asks.
Meredith shrugs, still feeling out of it.
Dr Bailey helps get Meredith off of the floor, catching Meredith as she wobbles. "Woah, you're okay Meredith." To Derek she says, "She's pretty unsteady Derek."
"I'm fine." Meredith whispers.
"You're not fine sweetie. Okay here we go. Back into bed before you pass out again." Bailey helps her into bed and tucks her in.
"I'll be right back." Bailey says, noticing Meredith's IV has been yanked out from her fall. She comes back a few minutes later with medical supplies.
"What's that?" Meredith asks, her voice filled with fear.
"You accidentally pulled out your IV when you fell Mer so we need to replace your IV. And we are also going to put some ice on that bruise. It's looking pretty nasty already." Dr Bailey says, grabbing supplies to clean Meredith's arm before she puts the IV in.
Meredith yanks her arm away before Dr Bailey can put the needle back into her.
"No! I don't want that! Please don't!" Meredith cries.
"Mer… you need it sweetie. I know you're scared of needles but we need to do this. It'll only hurt for a second." Bailey says softly.
"No, I don't want it!" Meredith stubbornly refuses to give Bailey her arm and hides it under her blankets.
Dr Bailey looks over at Derek for help.
"Mer, please let Dr Bailey do her job and help you. This will help you feel better. You're really dehydrated. You can squeeze my hand while she puts it in."
Meredith looks at Derek with tears streaming down her face. "Why do I have to be so sick? I'm terrified of needles! I can't handle this! Everything is so painful and I don't feel good!" With that Meredith promptly throws up all over herself.
Derek quickly hands her the bucket and she continues throwing up into it. Once she finishes Derek and Dr Bailey clean her up and get her into a new hospital gown.
"Derek I need to get this IV in her still." Dr Bailey says.
Derek nods. "Mer let me hold your hand. You can squeeze it all you want."
Meredith starts sobbing but grabs onto his hand and Dr Bailey is able to get the IV back into her.
"You did a great job Mer! I'm so proud of you! I know it's so hard but you did it." Bailey tells Meredith. To Derek she says, "I'm going to keep her here overnight." Derek nods in agreement.
Meredith is crying so loudly she doesn't even hear Bailey speaking to her. After a while she cries herself to sleep for the night.
Over the next few hours Derek does neuro checks on Meredith to make sure she is okay because he's scared she hit her head when she passed out.
Meredith wakes up the next morning around 11am and still doesn't feel great.
"Morning Mer." Derek says. "How are you feeling?"
Meredith shrugs. "I'm fine." She says softly. "I want to see Cristina."
"Maybe she can come visit you."
"No, I want to go to her." She says even though she's not feeling well. She wants to practice suturing with Cristina.
"Mer…"
"Please!"
"Mer, you passed out yesterday."
"I'll be fine! Please Derek!"
Derek sighs. "Fine. But you're going in the wheelchair."
"Deal." Meredith doesn't want to go in the wheelchair but compromises so she can leave her room.
Meredith gets into the chair and sits in the chair with a blanket covering her. She starts moving in the chair towards the skills lab where she assumes Cristina is. Meredith is already exhausted by the time she gets there but ignores it.
She finds Cristina when she gets to the skills lab and Cristina smiles at her. Meredith rolls herself over to Cristina.
"Hey Mer! How are you feeling? I heard you passed out yesterday!" Cristina says to her friend.
Meredith shrugs. "I don't feel that good but I wanted to see you."
"Mer, you should go lay down and rest if you don't feel well."
"I don't want to lay down. I'll be fine!" Meredith says stubbornly.
Cristina starts to argue with her but gives in and just keeps a very close eye on Meredith.
The two of them sit there and practice suturing.
Meredith won't admit it but she's already feeling exhausted after only five stitches. Her fingers are starting to tremble and become sweaty. She ignores it and keeps going. She feels embarrassed that she can't even do 5 stitches without getting exhausted.
Thirty minutes later Cristina can tell that Meredith is having trouble keeping her eyes open so she insists that Meredith go back to her room and lay down.
"No, I want to stay here with you." Meredith protests weakly.
"How about I come back to your room with you? You look like you're about to fall asleep Mer."
"Okay." Meredith whispers.
Cristina pushes Meredith in her wheelchair back to her room. Meredith is so tired that she doesn't say a word on the way back to her room.
Cristina helps her into bed when they get back to her room.
"Will you lay with me?" Meredith asks sleepily and already half asleep.
"Of course I will." Cristina gets into bed with her and Meredith rests her head on Cristina's chest and instantly falls fast asleep.
Cristina runs her hand through Meredith's hair and big chunks of hair falls out from Meredith's head. The rest of Meredith's hair is extremely thin.
