Goin' KABOOM!

Chapter 35: Double Trouble

Katie and Tiffany, both angry and having morphed into their feral, beast forms, were now having another one of their...uh...usual cousin talks.

"YOU EGOGOTISTICAL DRAMA QUEEN!..."Monster Katie yelled as she tried to punch her.

"YOU SELF-CENTERED LITTLE BRAT!..."Monster Tiffany yelled, grabbing the other girl monster by her hair.

The rest of the Kaboom family reacted like they ALWAYS do to these sort of arguments.

"DUCK AND COVER!..."Mrs. Kaboom yelled, wearing an army helmet.

Her husband and son did the same, hiding behind the sofa as the two females kept brawling

"YOU'RE ALWAYS SUCH A BOSSY SHOW-OFF!..."Monster Katie yelled at her.

"YOU'RE ONE TO TALK, SINCE YOU'RE STILL JUST AN IMMATURE BRATTY TEENAGER!..."Monster Tiffany yelled back.

Their tempers were rising and their fight got worse. Still, her parents tried to break this up as best they could.

"Katie...Tiffany...please...not inside?..."Mrs. Kaboom asked nervously from her hiding place.

"TELL HER THAT!..."They both yelled at her, shutting her up

"Listen to your mother Katie, she loves you...And Tiffany, don't forget you are a guest..."Mr. Kaboom yelled into his megaphone but the two females got more peeved.

"YOU ALWAYS TAKE HER SIDE!..."Katie yelled at him.

"YOU ALWAYS PLAY FAVORITES, UNCLE JOHN!..."Tiffany snapped at him before focusing back on trying to cream her cousin.

"But...we tried to..."Mrs. Kaboom tried again.

"I'M NOT LETTING HER GET AWAY WITH IT THIS TIME!..."Katie roared.

She was FURIOUS over everything her cousin put her through since she got here and also blaming her cousin for Danny's sudden departure.

It was so bad that she went on a rampage and brawled with her cousin, both trying to make the other stand down.

"DON'T YOU DARE TALK TO ME LIKE THAT, YOU LITTLE BRAT!..."Monster Tiffany roared.

"Now...Honey Bunch...I know you're upset but-..."He was cut off when she turned her face to look at him.

"I'M NOT UPSET! I'M JUST TRYING TO MAKE HER SEE REASON!..."The she-beast snarled before she stomped her foot, making the floor shake from the force.

Before she could yell at him again, Katie swiped a claw at her, getting her attention back to her fight.

"STOP IGNORING ME!..."The younger female monster snarled at her.

However, before she could do it again, Monster Tiffany pushed her.

"I SAW THAT, YOU LITTLE BRAT!..." She yelled.

Their fight got worse and they just kept yelling and screaming at each other during the entire thing.

"I WISH I NEVER MET YOU!..."Monster Katie yelled at her.

"I WISH YOU'D FINALLY GROW UP!..."Monster Tiffany yelled back.

"Please, can't we settle this in a calm and orderly manner?..."Katie's dad begged.

"NOT WITH HER, WE CAN!..."They both yelled and pointed at each other.

"Darling...Katie...please, there's got to be some common ground that can talk things through!..."Mitch tried, shaking as he did so. "You girls are making a bit of a scene..."He said nervously, trying hard not to lose his nerve.

"I AM NOT MAKING A SCENE, I'M DEALING WITH MY COUSIN!..."Tiffany roared.

""DEAL WITH THIS, YOU DRAMA QUEEN!..."Katie roared back.

The two monsters continued to fight each other, both trying to pin down the other.

"WHY WON'T YOU JUST STAY QUIET AND DO AS YOUR TOLD?!..."Monster Tiffany roared.

"WHY WON'T YOU JUST LEAVE ME ALONE?!..."Katie yelled at her.

Unknown to them, Danny flew in and saw the fight.

"Well, it's now or never and I kinda wished it was the latter..."Danny thought as he flew in, becoming invisible as he was about to ambush them.

However, Mitch and Katie's dad tried to stop them again.

"Katie, please, why don't we just let bygones be bygones and all have a nice ice cream together?..."Mr. Kaboom begged, hoping that would calm them down.

"Yes, Sugar britches, I remembered to bring your favorite brand and flavor..."Mitch begged too, hoping that this would be enough

However, to Danny's surprised, he watched as the two females morphed back, both looking more or less the same...though their hair was messed up and clothes were torn a bit due to everything they had just done.

Both were de-transformed but neither looked happy yet either.

"Ugh! Fine...since I'm in the mood for something sweet..."Katie said begrudgingly.

"So long as mine has extra chocolate, then I suppose we can end things here for now..."Tiffany said, as her sweet tooth got the better of her

Danny's jaw dropped and almost couldn't believe what he just witnessed

"No way..."Danny said as he briefly lost his invisibility and just stared slack jawed at this.

It was a bad idea since the wall he unintentionally leaned on was very weak and soon crumbled on him, covering him in dust.

"Seriously?!..."He exclaimed and briefly turned back due to human form.

Unfortunately, his yells got attention and the entire Kaboom family saw him...especially Danny.

"Danny!..."Katie said as she ran to him, her hug felt more like a choke-hold to the ghost boy.

"Me and my big mouth!..."He thought as she hugged him even tighter.

"I thought you left already..."Tiffany said, looking annoyed.

The entire Kaboom family seemed curious about this too and Danny had a bad moment.

"Uh, I...heard some screaming...and what sounded like a fight and came to see...if everything was alright..."Danny lied and Katie smiled.

"Aw, you're so thoughtful for going out of your way to check on us, Danny..."Katie said adoringly.

Danny cringed at that as she planted a kiss on his cheek, her lips almost burning his skin from his point of view.

"I should have stayed invisible..."He thought, wanting out of there.

Before she could do anything, someone else got his attention.

"Danny!..."Sam yelled as she ran into the ruined house, with Tucker and Jazz behind her.

Katie frowned at that sight of her.

"What are you doing here?..."Katie said, looking threatened by the sight of her.

"Uh...we ran into Danny on the street...and we heard some really loud screaming and thought we check and see if you guys were alright..."Tucker lied quickly.

"Well, thank you kids for being so considerate but we're fine..."Mrs. Kaboom said with a forced smile on her face, seemingly oblivious to her home in dissaray.

"Is she serious?!..."Danny, Sam, Tucker and Jazz all thought, wondering about her sanity while Katie was blissfully unaware of what was going on.

"Yeah, well nice of you to drop by..."Katie said, sounding less welcoming than her mother, obviously because she wants to be alone with Danny again.

"You two didn't seem so nice a moment ago..."Danny muttered, avoiding words that gave too much away. "This place looks like like it go hit by a twister...or a monster..that was here...trashing the whole place..."He said, careful with his words.

What he said went over Katie and Tiffany's heads, but Katie's parents and Mitch heard this and their eyes widened, all thinking the same thing.

"He knows something!..."They thought, shuddering and fearing for the boy's life.

They'd need to talk to him privately as soon as possible but Mr. Kaboom notice the look on his daughter and niece's faces and tried to think of something fast

Now...now, Danny..."Mr. Kaboom said, jumpy like the rest of the family. "Now...I'm sure you think you saw a giant...terrifying...monstrous...thing...but I'm sure it was one of the ghosts this town was famous for..."He said, but noticed the look on the boy's face.

His slumped his shoulder as he sighed.

"Oh who am I kidding!?..."He thought, looking almost defeated right now.

Danny saw this and frowned more while Katie looked around curiously, more interested in something else.

"Anyway, where are those tubs of sweetness?..."Katie asked, dropping Danny for the time being.

"Yeah, I have a major craving..."Tiffany asked, being impatient.

"They're in the kitchen, dear..."Mrs. Kaboom said.

""I'll get them..."Katie said, running towards what remained of the house.

"You're not getting the first scoop..."Tiffany said, earning a frown from her cousin.

"You'll have to get there before me..."Katie said as she went to the kitchen to get them, with her cousin following her.

The two females raced towards their respective frozen treats, much to the relief of a certain ghost boy who was just happy to avoid another kiss attack from Katie.

"I'd thought they'd never leave..."Danny thought, until someone caught his attention.

It was the entire KaBoom family surrounding the boy like nervous sheep, looking ashamed. Or at least one of shame and sorrow, aimed at themselves.

It was quiet until one of them in particular caught the attention of the ghost boy.

That was Tiffany's husband..

Danny looked at Mitch, who had been quiet the entire time. He looked around in a mix of shame and sadness, trying to not make eye contact.

"What's wrong?..." Danny asked.

"You saw Tiffany transform, didn't you?..."He asked.

Danny nodded and confirmed the concerns of the other Kaboom family members

"Yeah, I know..."He said, confirming it.

Mitch sighed.

"Yeah, I figured you did..."He said, realizing that his intuition was right.

Danny had so many questions to make but one was in his mind more.

"Hey, I've been meaning to ask this for awhile now. Why did you marry a girl like Tiffany, if you knew she was like that? Did you just never find out?..."Danny asked, needing to know.

Mitch looked down and gulped. Danny realized that it might be too much while the man just took a breath.

"The truth is...I wanna leave..."Mitch said, looking depressed.

"Huh?..."Danny questioned.

Sam, Jazz and Tucker also heard this and inched closer. The mid-20's guy sighed as he repeated what he just confessed.

"I said... I wanna leave...or at least get a seperation, as soon as possible..."He repeated and Danny knew what he meant.

"You mean you hate being married to Tiffany?..."The ghost boy asked, having suspected that earlier and now getting it confirmed.

Mitch sighed as he nodded his head.

"I don't hate her... but I don't love her like I used to..." Mitch admitted, looking like he ran a mile in under 10 minutes.

"Really?..." Danny asked, surprised but also feeling sorry for him.

Mitch nodded but also took a breath.

"Yes, my feelings for her are not as strong as they used to be. The truth is...I've wanted to leave since the wedding. When I first met Tiffany, I fell absolutely in love with her..."Mitch confessed.

"It was during college. We didn't even have the same major, much less classes. It was my freshman year about 5 years ago. Tiffany and I met when I accidentally bumped into her at the campus cafe and it was like love at first sight. We literally bumped into each other when I was on my way out and we instantly hit it off without a hitch..."Mitch said, smiling warmly as he recalled that fateful encounter.

FLASHBACK

Five years ago

At Plotz University

A younger Mitch had just gotten out of his last class of the day and headed to grab a bite. He went to the campus cafe for an hour of just him and lunch.

"I'm so hungry I could eat a sandwich the size of a car..."He thought as he went in and got his usual order.

He was going to leave and head home after, only to literally bump into something, making them both crash to the ground.

"Ouch..."Mitch let out as he rubbed his head.

"WATCH IT YOU PUNK!..."A shrill voice snapped.

Mitch blinked as he came to and looked to who snapped.

"Why don't-..."Mitch began as he finally saw who he bumped into.

Once he did, he was stunned silent and his jaw dropped, unable to finish his sentence when he finally saw that it was a girl who he bumped into.

Someone pretty.

"Oh my..."Mitch thought as he looked at what was probably the most beautiful girl he has ever seen.

She was close to his height, maybe just a little shorter...she has long black hair in a pony tail, blue eyes, flawless looking skin and dark red lips that gave her a mysterious kind of beauty.

At the moment, Mitch was floored as the girl looked at him, also caught off guard.

"Who is this?..."The girl thought as she looked into his eyes, her previous anger forgotten when she saw that it was a guy that she bumped into.

They were face to face and just staring. She suddenly stopped yelling when they both looked into each other's eyes.

"Oh...uh...excuse me...I'm so sorry that I didn't see you..."Mitch said in a meek voice, regretting not looking.

The girl suddenly smiled and got on her knees, blushing a bit but not angry anymore.

"No, it's okay. I wasn't paying attention..."The girl said as she smiled at him, liking what she sees.

Mitch got up and offered his hand, which she took.

"Such a gentleman, Mr...?..."She paused, wanting to know his name.

Upon realizing that he hasn't introduced themselves yet, he snapped out of his staring and cleared his throat.

"My name is Mitch..."He said as he introduced himself, hoping he wasn't coming off as a huge dork.

The girl just kept smiling and nodded at him before responding.

"It's nice to meet you, Mitch...My name is Tiffany..."The girl said as tucked some hair behind her ear shyly.

Unaware that this is the moment that their lives would change.

Not necessarily for the better.

End of Flashback

Present Time

"And that's how the...magic happened..."Mitch said, his tone was defeated as he slumped forward.

The younger of the two noticed how eerily familiar it is.

"That's almost like how me and Katie met..."Danny thought, not having a good feeling about this.

"I will be honest, I wasn't exactly a ladies man back then, so it was a miracle that someone as beautiful as her was even interested in a nobody like me..."Mitch said, looking despondent.

"Tiffany was amazing and we soon started going out and couldn't wait to see each other. We seemed perfect for each other..."Mitch said, exhaling bitterly.

"But things were good, were they?..."Danny asked.

"They were at first but Tiffany could be bossy and a perfectionist at times but she was also trying to help where she could...she also could be pretty...amorous and constantly hovering. Even more so since we got married..."Mitch said as he rubbed his neck, a spot where a hickey was formed.

"Deja vu..."Danny thought, seeing more similarities and unconsciously felt his own hickey from earlier today.

"At first, it was wonderful..."He said, his smile dropping.

"Then things changed...Sure, she got...possessive and bossy but she still meant well and was sweet...she was still the woman I love...or so I thought..."Mitch said, looking ready to break down.

"Like I said, Tiffany and I dated for the rest of college and as soon as we both passed, she started dropping hints of marriage...even more so after we graduated..."He said, trying to stay calm.

"I proposed to her a few weeks after we graduated and she couldn't say yes fast enough, but I still wasn't sure if we were ready, but I thought it didn't matter since we loved each other and were certain we were made for each other..."He said.

"However, Tiffany changed even more, and it was driving me mad...She got more impatient and sensitive...each request she gave was getting more ridiculous, it was like she became a completely different person...Her mother told me it was just pre-marital jitters and she was just anxious for the wedding...Boy, was she wrong..."He muttered.

"Definitely like Katie..." Danny thought.

"It wasn't until the wedding I saw her monster side...she and Katie got into an argument and completely trashed the place, oh, the money I spent on repairs..."He said, gulping hard.

"She started to feel more comfortable showing her less pretty side..." Danny guessed.

"It didn't start that way. Everything was great, up until Katie arrived to be a bridesmaid..." Mitch said.

"I'm guessing their feuding with each other got in the way..." Danny guessed, mentally putting it together.

Mitch nodded.

"That is putting it MILDLY. Katie accidentally stepped on Tiffany's wedding dressed...it ripped...and before anyone knew it, they both morphed and destroyed everything and...her family acted like that was NORMAL!..."Mitch exclaimed..."They acted like 2 rampaging monsters was just everyday for them!..."He added.

"Once Tiffany finally calmed down, she transformed and...the wedding continued..."He said, eye twitching. "The church was literally in shambles, Katie and Tiffany's dresses were torn and even the priest seemed less like he was seeing a wedding as he was an exorcism but...it continued and she became my wife..."Mitch said as he recalled that moment.

FLASHBACK

Six months ago

The church was in ruins but a wedding was still in place.

And it was now Mitch regretted the proposal and getting cold feet.

He deeply regreeted being here, he regretted not learning more about her and her family and not seeing her at her worst before deciding he wanted to spend his life with her. Especially when the priest looked almost as nervous as he was as he got to the vows.

"Do you...Mitch Meakly...take Tiffany Kaboom to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love, honor and cherish...till death do you part?..."The priest asked but even he looked like it was a bad idea.

Mitch stood there petrified as his head turned to his bride, sweating bullets.

Mentally, he was saying no repeatedly but knew it was too late now. He looked at his bride's smiling face and wide eyes, they looked beautiful...a stark contrast to what he witness five minutes ago.

Fearing what she'll do if he says no, he did the opposite of what he wanted to say.

"I...I do..."Mitch let out as Tiffany squealed with joy.

"May he be with you..." The priest whispered to him, knowing what kind of nightmare he was in.

He then heard one of Tiffany's family members...her father, whisper to his brother.

"Next thing you'll know...They'll have children of their own..."Tiffany's dad said her uncle.

"Ch-Children?..." He thought, becoming pale as a ghost at the mere thought of it.

The priest then turned to Tiffany, who was beaming with joy, believing that this is the happiest moment of her life, and that it was Mitch's as well.

"And d-do you, Tiffany-..."He tried but was cut off by the bride's sudden actions.

"YES! I DO!..."She exclaimed, not wanting to wait one more second to be married.

The priest was surprised but cleared his throat, clearly hoping the best for Mitch.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife..."The priest said as sent Mitch a sympathetic look.

Tiffany looked completely joyous, wrapping her arms around his neck and holding him tightly.

"Is it too late for her to runaway?..." Mitch thought, hoping she'll go away.

No such luck, she really is here, officially as his wife, all the while, he felt his life flash before his eyes.

"You...may now kiss the bride..."The priest said, as he sounded a bit of key when he said bride

Tiffany squealed in joy and she pulled Mitch close and planted a kiss on his lips, sealing his fate forever.

He didn't hear the crowd cheering, he was too busy wishing he wasn't here. He was too busy wishing that this wasn't happening.

End of flashback

Present Time

"And that's how it all happened..."Mitch said as he sighed at recalling that day.

"I soon found myself at the alter, terrified and regretting ever being at the cafe..."Mitch said, looking like he'd have a panic attack.

"Just like me with the park..."Danny whispered, recalling how that went.

Mitch saw his expression and felt that he needed to clarify something.

"Don't get me wrong...I know I still love Tiffany but...I can't see myself loving her when she's... that thing...and the thought of having kids is a nightmare. She wants to start a family, but I don't know if I can bring more of those... things into the world..."Mitch said, looking scared.

Danny was both showing sympathy for this man, but also dreading his own future.

"I keep trying to put it off by telling her that I don't love her that much anymore but the truth is...I just can't because I'm too terrified..."Mitch confessed, gulping.

"I can see why…"Danny said, seeing him now sweating in fear

Mitch then turned to him, trying to steel himself as he offered some advice to the young boy he met today.

"Look, you seem like a nice kid with a future ahead of you, don't waste it on a Kaboom girl. Leave before you're of marrying age..."Mitch warned.

"That's...gonna be a tall order to fill...especially since I can't make it clear to her that I wanna break up..."Danny said, feeling a wave of stress overflowing inside.

Mitch gulped, fearing the worst. He recognized the look on Danny's face, something he knew all too well.

It started to make sense why Danny seemed so jumpy despite being in a relationship with her. Katie has the same condition as Tiffany...which means...

"You...know?..."Mitch uttered.

Katie's parents turned their heads, staring at the boy. For once, the ghost boy felt a sense of dread from something other than a ghost.

"Yeah, I know that Katie is JUST like Tiffany..."Danny said after a moment of silence.

There was silent as everyone shuffled their hands, as if trying to change the subject. But tears of regret filled the eyes of the family before they cracked.

"Look, I know that Katie might mean well in her own way, but I...I... I don't want be in a relationship with her anymore..." Danny said, finally being honest with them.

"You don't really love her, do you?..." Mr. Kaboom asked.

"No..." Danny said with any regret on his face.

To his surprise, they weren't upset, not even sad, they were almost accepting of it.

"I take it she's changed forms around you..." Mr. Kaboom said.

"Never in front of me... but I figured it out pretty fast why some monster kept showing up and attacking people, specific people, that Katie doesn't like..." Danny said.

"I knew that she lost her temper..." Mrs. Kaboom said, looking like she should have been more alert to her daughter's actions.

"You don't seem that surprised that someone found out..." He pointed out.

"You don't seem so shocked yourself..."Mr. Kaboom pointed out.

"My parents hunt ghosts for a living and I've seen ghosts on a daily basis..."He said, as if pointing out the sky is blue. "But it doesn't mean I enjoy it..."He muttered.

The Kaboom parents groaned as they knew Katie wasn't as careful as they thought.

"I guess it was only a matter of time before someone here found out..." Mr. Kaboom said.

"You guys don't seem so eager to run for your lives... and yet you've had to have seen a ghost or two at this point..." Danny reasoned.

"You guys look dead from exhaustion..."The ghost boy added but he saw a look of hopelessness in their eyes as they spoke.

"We're dead inside. Frankly, it's a miracle we can still keep this up..."Mrs. Kaboom said, dropping her "perky mom" face and rubbing her temples.

She looked like she was on the verge of breaking down in tears, the stress getting to her.

"Sorry...what?..."Danny questioned, wondering if the change in atmosphere was real.

Everything was feeling...well, not so great, to say the least.

"It's exhausting keeping up appearances, putting fake smiles and acting like everything is normal and happy when we all know deep down that none of it is real happiness. I can't remember smiling for more than an hour because I want to..."Mrs. Kaboom said, showing a sorrowful and tired face now.

Her husband also dropped his cheery demeanor. He patted his wife on the back before pulling her in for a hug.

"I know, Honey... if I knew about my family curse, I would never have put you through this..." He said.

"Huh?..." Danny asks him. "Family curse?..."He questioned, now more interested than before.

Mr. Kaboom sighed and nodded his head. He was far too exhausted physically and emotionally to even care that he slipped up. He figured that it probably wouldn't hurt anyone if he just came clean.

"Yeah, a curse..."He said as he knew that there is no point in hiding it now.

The ghost boy paid closed attention, as he seemed to finally be getting some answers to his plight with Katie.
