Goin' KABOOM!
Chapter 39: Genius and Insane
Danny had just flown out of the warehouse with his new little...accomplices.
Compared to his usual ghosts, the talking mice are an oddity...but still, they might useful and he needs all the help he can get.
Even if they did technically caused him trouble earlier but he wasn't thinking about that right now. He knew that he had to find Katie, and also regroup with his friends first. He decided to head to where he last heard his friends and sister were, before these little mice decided to stick their little noses in his business.
"I guess this is the best place to start as any…" Danny droned as he flew above the downtown section, even phasing through a building since he didn't have time to fly around it.
This got the little mice's attention, one seemed neutral while the other seemed happy about something.
"Gee, that was new. I don't think we ever went through the walls, did we, Brain?…"Pinky said as the two were still hanging onto the ghost boy as he flew.
"No. I must say, it was new. Considering all the times things have blown up, it's nice to see minimal damage with no explosions…"Brain added.
Danny stared at the duo as a random thought came to mind. The talk with the Kaboom echoed in his head as he staring, blinking.
"Let me guess, you guys are from Acmeville, am I right?..."He asked, rolling his eyes as he had a feeling that they came from the same place as the Kaboom family did
Brain and Pinky both blinked at that.
"Not quite, we're from Acme Labs in Burbank California, near the Warner brothers movie studio..."Pinky revealed, upsetting The Brain as well.
"Pinky, you don't have to answer everything when we someone asks a question OR reveal the location of our lab!..."Brain said as he bopped him, making the mouse see stars.
"Zort...Sorry Brain...just thought I should be honest..."Pinky laughed, making insane noises as he wobbled behind Brain.
"Honesty is usually the best policy, but there's also a thing called time and place!..." Brain said.
"And that's now..." Danny said before seeing who he was flying to. "Maybe after I land..."He added.
"I thought you said time and place was now?..." Pinky asked, earning a dope slap from Brain.
"Not now..." Brain said.
"I'm just pointing out what you said..."Pinky said.
"Just be quiet right now, Pinky..."Brain chided. "When we get back to the lab, we'll need a chat on proper etiquette..."He added.
"Poit! Okay, Brain, Narf!..."Pink let out, while Danny sent him a confused look.
"What does that word even mean?..."The ghost boy asked.
"Which word?..."Pinky asked, clueless.
"The one you keep saying over and over again, "narf"..."Danny said, while Pinky just smiled as he began explaining to the ghost kid.
"Narf is like Point or Zort, but different..."Pinky said, like it was obvious and Danny still looked lost.
Brain sighed while the ghost boy sent him a questioning look.
"Pinky has his own way of thinking, one not worth understanding..."He explained, looking exasperated while his ditzy friend kept laughing.
Danny decided that he didn't really care and moved on to more important tasks. He had more important stuff to worry than some mouse's questionable sanity right now. He had to find Vlad, who has Katie, and hopefully getting out of this crazy relationship before he ended up like Mitch, and to do that, he was gonna need help of every kind.
Seeing nothing, Danny kept flying and soon saw Sam and Tucker, much to his relief.
"Guys!..."Danny said as he landed in front of his friends.
"Did you find Katie yet?..."Sam asked, wanting to get this over with.
"No, I haven't, but you'll never guess what I did find..."Danny said as he presented the two mice to his fist.
"Uh, Danny...why are you carrying two mice?..."Tucker asked, wondering if his friend finally lost it.
"Are they supposed to be Katie's pets or something?..." Sam asked, just as confused.
"Actually, we're lab mice that had our genes spliced to become smarter than the average rodent. Some more than others..." Brain said, eyes rolling at Pinky.
"Poit..." Pinky went, not realizing who Brain was referring to.
Sam and Tucker only stared a moment before they looked up at Danny, then the mice again, then each other and then back to Danny again.
"Excuse us..." They said in unison.
The two walked away several feet before they slap themselves in the face, then each other, then themselves again. They walk back, both rubbing their cheeks, which were a little sore now.
"Why exactly did you do that?..." Brain asked, confused.
"Testing to see if we finally cracked. We have not..." Sam answered.
"Boy... no wonder we never told the guys at ACME LABS we can talk..." Pinky commented.
Only one actually reacting. It was Sam who went wide eyed and had a disbelieving look on her face.
"ACME LABS?!..."Sam yelled, looking angry and horrified, like she just heard a criminal's name out loud.
"You've heard of that place?..."Danny asked, surprised to hear this while Sam looked furious.
"Of course I have. That place is pure evil! I've heard this place was responsible for all sorts of inhuman experiments on poor animals ... like giving a mink a voluptuous human physique or mutating a poor defenseless chicken to get bigger and that's not even half of the awful things they have done!..."She yelled. "Not to mention that they are selling products that were not only NOT biodegradable but they also cover up their lies with cartoons! Every time it SEEMS like they are going to be shut down, something happens to get them out of trouble!..."Sam said, fury growing in her voice by the word.
Danny and Tucker stared without giving off any sort of reaction before turning their heads to Pinky and the Brain.
"Wow, she's good..."Pinky said, basically confirming what Sam said to be true.
"Wait...you're seriously from Acme Labs?!..."Tucker asked, stunned.
"Affirmative, the lab that created us has...well, let's just say that those scientists don't always get it right..."Brain said, sounding bitter.
"Exactly! Look at these poor creatures!..." Sam said, her protective animal instincts kicking in.
Brain, however, sent the goth girl a disapproving look as he cleared his throat before speaking again. He did not like how the goth girl stared at him with pity and decided to be frank with her.
"I meant... I was hoping they'd have made me taller so humans could see I am more than a mouse!..." Brain said, shocking the goth girl.
Sam's jaw dropped.
"Wait... you WANT this?..." She asked, stunned while the mouse just looked at her like she's an idiot.
"Do you actually think I want to spend my life living in a field eating fruit like a wild animal?..." Brain asked, sounding insulted. "My goal is to take over the world!..." He declared.
"Take over the world?!..."Tucker and Sam both exclaimed.
"Of course, that lab had given me vast intelligence but foolishly not realizing I outgrew them and had the nerve to place me among common mice. So, my goal is to prove our mousy worth and take over the world, instilling a new world order the likes of which none have seen before..."Brain declared.
"To... make life better for mice?" Sam asks, lost.
"Of course not. I'm doing it for me and to show the world would be better under my watch! Especially since I have legitimate plans, which would be far more useful than what congress is arguing about constantly...And I thought Pinky asked the stupid questions..." Brain muttered.
Sam glowered.
"Suddenly, I don't mind a cat eating you..."She said as she and Brain glared at each other.
"Great, another misguided animal rights enthusiast who think they understand animals when it fact they're just embarrassing themselves and us..."Brain muttered, shaking his head disapprovingly.
Sam glared at him, while Tucker suddenly recalled something else. Like a faint memory that just came back to him.
"I heard a rumor on the internet once about two lab mice in Burbank who tried to take over the world...but I thought that was just some online gobbledygook..."Tucker said.
"NARF! Gobbledygook! I like that word..."Pinky said, laughing like a loon.
Danny, however, had something else in mind.
"So...what Sam said was true, about the big chicken and the experiments? You guys came from a lab that did... THAT kind of stuff to animals.?..."Danny asked, disturbed.
"Indeed, we are creations of science and we use science in our... I mean, my plans..."Brain declared, gesturing to Pinky making bubbles with his mouth to pass the time. "ACME Labs created us as means to test their experiments and other such ways of improving human lives but we, and again, I mean I, have my own plans to improve the world!..."He declared while the ghost boy still seemed curious about something else.
"And the mink with a human girl physique? What kind of crazy idiot who probably really wanted a date thought of that?..."Danny asked, sounding even more disturbed now.
Pinky and The Brain shared a look with each other, not sure what to say.
"Nobody said scientists had to be asexual..." Brain responded with a shrug.
Danny made a face.
"I... kind of, really don't want to see that..."He said, not wanting to think about that too much.
His friends made differing expressions, one of disgust and one of curiosity. Which had which was obvious but they were not focusing on that right now.
"Danny, why did you even bring them here?..."Sam asked, still annoyed by Brain's attitude.
"They pretty much kidnapped me a few minutes ago to use me to take over the world but I managed to get away and turn the tables on them, so to speak..."Danny said like it was nothing.
His friends, however, were a bit surprised to hear that. Even more since he was STILL with those rodents, who so far, just seem to want to cause trouble.
"And the reason you brought them here with you and NOT calling the authorities...or an animal rights group is because?..."Sam asked incredulously.
"Because I think that they can help us..."Danny said.
"Help with what? Finding that big chicken and mink? I mean, the idea of a giant chicken sounds tasty, but I can't help but wonder how a mink would look being human-esque...but not more than the chicken..."Tucker said, wondering how many recipes he could do with a giant chicken.
Danny and Sam made faces of differing reactions before Danny shook his head.
"Okay, going off topic. I mean that they can help us find Katie..."Danny said.
"How do you expect them to help us?..."Sam asked and Brain glared at her.
"I will have you know that I have an IQ of over 180 and I can create machines and equipment that can rival that of NASA in a matter of days with common household items if I feel like it..."Brain said, angry that she doubted his skills. "I think that I am more than capable of finding whoever it is that you are looking for..."He said, sounding prideful
Sam glared at him but Danny was just happy to have ANY help at finding Katie.
"That's what I'm counting on, Now let's get to work. We need to find Katie..." The ghost boy reminded. "Plus, it's thanks to them that I know that Vlad kidnapped her, so they already helped so far..."Danny said.
"Wait, what? Vlad took Katie?!..."Sam exclaimed, sounding stunned and even horrified.
"Why?!..."Tucker asked, not liking this.
"My guess, he knows about her powers and wants to use her to A) make my life miserable or B) Use her in whatever new evil plot he has come up with to get rid of my dad, marry my mom, take over the world which would also make my life more miserable..."Danny said, since his enemy is predictable like that.
"Either way, we have to find them and Vlad could have taken her anywhere...heck, they could probably be in Colorado or Wisconsin right now for all we know..."He pointed out. "But maybe Brain and Pinky can do something to track them down...He said while the intelligent rodent nodded.
"Actually, it's Pinky and the Brain..."Pinky corrected but was ignored.
The ghost boy just got to the point with them, since he had no more time to waste.
"So, you really think you can track Katie down?..."He asked asked.
"You mean the girl with the odd mutation or "curse" as you called it? That's a simple find..." Brain said, using air-quotes around "curse".
"It is? How so?..." Danny asked, just wanting to find them and fast.
"First, I'm going to need access to a computer and a lab with equipment, tools and power. Any idea where I can find one?..."Brain asked.
"As a matter of fact, I think I do..."Danny said as he knew where to bring them now.
A little later
Danny had brought his friends, sister and the mutated lab mice to his parents lab. His folks were out now, which meant that they can get some work done without interference.
"Zort! I like it... it's spacey and kinda retro too..."Pinky said as he looked around.
"Indeed, this lab is pretty...low-key compared to Acme Labs but I suppose it will do..."Brain said as he looked around with a critical eye.
Danny ignored that and soon brought him to the computer and he and Tucker all brought him the materials he asked for. In no time, the hyper intelligent rodent began constructing something, all the while barking orders to Pinky, who obeyed him and soon enough, the machine was finished.
"Cool, I gotta remember this for science class someday..."Tucker said as his tech-geek side showed while his friend was just curious.
"What is that?..."Danny asked as he looked at the device.
It was a machine that resembled a compass but it was bigger and had what looked like a screen on it.
Brain then pressed a button on the side and began beeping.
"This is a power surge compass that is designed to locate large amounts of energy being used. With this, it shouldn't be too hard to find that..."cursed" girl as you call it..."Brain said, not believing in such things but also not caring enough to correct them.
"How so?..."Danny asked, on edge.
The hyper intelligent mouse than sent a proud look at his invention as he began to explain the basics of it.
"With this device, it should be a simple matter of scanning energy readings through the electrical grid to see if any monumental usages. If what you're saying is true, then your soon to be ex would most likely cause a ruckus that would require an exponential amount of energy to contain…"Brain said, explaining it like it was nothing.
Danny seemed stunned by this and the fact that the little mouse managed to even make sure a device in such a short amount of time.
"Wow…you really deserved your name…"Danny commented, actually impressed.
Brain heard this and actually smiled a bit, pleased with what the ghost boy just said.
"You know, I'm beginning to like you…"Brian glanced over his shoulder. "It's rather nice getting additional complements…"He admitted.
"Additional?…"Danny asked.
Brain typed away on the computer, pointing to Pinky as he multi-tasked.
"Pinky here says similar things. He's a good friend despite his rambling and and idiotic hobbies…"He admitted.
"ZORT! BRAIN! Looky looky! This green stuff is makes me feel like a cat is learning to swim in jello!..."Pinky said as he suddenly started guffawing as he pointed to some ectoplasma that was in a test-tube, that his dad must have left here.
Danny blinked and sent the other rat a look and Brain groaned.
"And sometimes he's just insane..."He complained, not sugar-coating it.
"I'm confused...you said that you're both genetically engineered mice, but it's seems one is a genius and the other is insane. How exactly did that work?..."The ghost boy asked.
Brain sighed.
"Honestly? I have no clue. But apparently he had a different reaction to the experiment or something. It's been so long since then that I don't even remember how we were given differing levels of intelligence..."The lab mouse complained.
"And an attitude..." Sam muttered.
Brain sent her a glare and got tired of her smart-mouth.
"When I take over the world, I'll be sure to ban all Goth clothing as well..." Brain said, having quickly gained a dislike of Sam.
Sam grimaced at him, showing the feeling is mutual.
"Okay, cool, that helps..." Danny said before adding in quickly. "The tracking Katie part... not the obvious wanting to make Sam's life worse..." He said quickly.
Brain still frowned at Sam before sighing, deciding to get on with this.
"Very well, this just needs to power up first..."Brain said as he began pressing some buttons and powering the device, all the while his sidekick kept goofing around.
"Brain look, I see flying islands in that green swirly light on the wall..."Pinky said, as he pointed to the portal but his friend thought he was off on his own world again.
Brain just told them not to mind him and focused on the device, which is now fully powered.
"There, it's fully charged and ready for use..."Brain said, pleased with himself.
"Finally..."Danny said. "You are SURE that this will work?..."He asked.
"I already told you that with this device, we will be able to track where this Katie girl is anywhere in a 100 miles radium...but I'll need a sample of her DNA first..."Brain explained.
"What? Why didn't you mention that before?!..."Sam mentioned.
"I thought it was obvious. While her own energy is unknown to me, I need to make sure that her own energy is what we're following without mistaking her for some ghost or another strange entity in this town..."The lab mouse explained, like he was explaining something as simple as 2+2=4.
This, however, agitated Team Phantom even more and they looked to each other.
"Where the heck are we suppose to get some of her DNA?!..."Sam exclaimed. "You're the "genius" here, do something!..."She demanded.
"I'm a genetically altered lab mouse, not a miracle worker and I have never even SEEN this girl before. You do something about it!..."Brain said, annoyed with her.
Before Sam could come close to ACTUALLY wishing harm on an animal, Danny spoke up.
"I think I have something that could work..."Danny said as he phased upstairs, making his friends and lab mice blink.
"Where's he going?..."Tucker asked, but no one could answer.
Soon enough, Danny came back, with something in his hand.
"Here..."He said as he handed Brain what looked to be a ribbon, which also happens to have a strand of blonde hair on it.
"Hmm..." Brain pondered while Danny's friends sent him an incredulous look.
"Where did you get THAT?!..."Sam asked, looking ticked at the sight of it.
Danny sighed as he explained everything.
"Katie left it here the last time she came over to study and left some of her things behind. I honestly forgot about it until now..."He said with a shrug.
Brain paid no mind to this as he took the item and examined it closer. He smiled.
"Splendid, this should be enough..."The brainy rodent said before he placed it within his machine and pressed a button.
In a few moments, the machine beeped and they managed to get a lock on her location.
"Yes, we got her!..."Brain said as he held it up.
"Where is she?!..."Danny asked in an urgent voice.
"According to this, she seems to be in a lab about 100 feet underground, underneath the mayor's mansion..."Brain said.
Danny heard this and dragged a hand down his face.
"Figures. Vlad didn't even take her out of town. I can't believe I didn't figure that out..."He grumbled.
"Quite...Now, we best be off..."Brain said, glad his work was done.
However, Sam blocked their path.
"Excuse me, who said you two could leave?..."She demanded.
Brain glared at her.
"Your friend here only demanded that I locate this Katie girl and I did. Now, we must leave..."Brain reminded.
However, neither he nor Pinky made it out of the room when Danny picked them up.
"Look Brain! We're going for another ride!..."Pinky said happily.
"What is this?! I kept my end! Now let us go!..." Brain argued.
Danny however, sent them a serious look, refusing to let go of them.
"We'll let you go...AFTER we free Katie and give Vlad a much needed butt kicking..."He said, being stern.
"That was not part of the deal!..."Brain protested but an ecto-ball from Danny shut him up.
"It is now..."He said, reminding them that of how much stronger he is and that it's NOT a wise idea to get on his nerves right now.
Brain grumbled while Pinky didn't argue at all, still lost in whatever he was thinking about. He then became giddy.
"Wait...the mayor?...We're going to see the cheese king. YAY!..."Pinky laughed, clasping his hands together.
He was ignored as Danny carried both him and Brain, holding them in his hand while he and his friend worked on the next step of their plan.
Infiltrating Vlad's house and free Katie, before that fruitloop could do whatever evil plan he had cooked up this time.
