Chapter 40: Confronting Vlad
Team Phantom and their mousy accomplices soon arrived to the mayor's mansion and were about to sneak in and rescue Danny's soon-to-be ex.
Danny did his best to be stealthy, since he knew that Vlad has tricked this place out with all kinds of anti-ghost security.
"Okay, time to rescue who I'm breaking up with..."He said.
"So, what's the plan?..."Tucker asked.
"Simple, we go in, find wherever Vlad is hiding Katie, kick Vlad's butt, get Katie home, then I figure out how to convince her of her curse and then try and figure out how to get rid of it..."Danny said, explaining things step by step.
"So, you don't really have a plan, just a checklist of what to do and hoping for the best, right?..."Sam criticized.
Danny frowned.
"That still counts. Tucker, do your thing..."Danny said as Tucker pulled out his PDA.
"Well, I'll try and knock out his security system..."Tucker said.
Brain saw this and sent him a critical look.
"You expect to hack into a well-developed and highly fortified security system with such a dated piece of technology?..."Brain criticized.
Tucker frowned.
"Hey, my PDA is NOT dated. This is the latest model and it's fresh out of the box. It's totally compatible compared to any of the other state of the art technology..."He said as he began to type.
However, to his surprise, it didn't work.
"Uh oh..."Tucker said.
"What's wrong?..."Danny asked, not liking this.
"It looks like Vlad has upped his security system again. He's put a new firewall that's hard for me to break. I can't go any further..."Tucker complained.
Brain rolled his eyes.
"Oh please, this firewall is no harder to decipher than your three-dimensional Rubik's Cube. You're technology is just older than the last time that idiot rich hippo couple was funny..."He snarked.
"I'd like to see you do better..."Tucker challenged, though he wasn't exactly sure what the little mouse meant by that part about the hippos.
"Ooh, he's challenging your smart powers, Brain..."Pinky said, like Tucker just challenged him to a game.
Brain sighed and decided to show who was the superior specimen.
"Give me that thing..."He ordered, deciding to take matters in how own tiny hands.
Tucker handed his PDA and Brain looked it over.
"I see that you had added some upgrades to this device, even I'll admit that it's impressive in it's own right. It simply needs one or two more finer adjustments..."Brain commented before making changes to it.
After a few moments of fiddling with it, he managed to finish reprogramming the PDA.
"What did you do?..."Tucker said, worried about what the lab mouse did to his "baby".
"I merely made minor modifications to find the backdoor into this Vlad's security system..."Brain said.
Tucker seemed stunned but he quickly grinned. He managed to get passed the firewall and disarmed all the traps and security systems.
"Sweet! We're in. Nice job, Mighty Mouse..."He said, loving this.
"Don't get to comfortable. I'm only helping you three until this cursed girl is found and me and Pinky can return to our lives..."Brain said.
"For such a defenseless little creature, you sure do you have a big mouth..."Sam said, crossing her arms.
Brain frowned at her.
"I never once claimed to being defenseless, and I take offense from someone so evolved yet so backwards in her way of thinking..."The rodent said.
"Knock it off, you two. We got work to do..."Danny reminded.
With Vlad's security now down, the ghost boy turned intangible
"You guys stay here and hang tight. I'm going in and search for Katie..."Danny said.
"And what about us?..."Bran asked as the ghost boy grabbed him and Pinky again.
"You two are coming with me in case I need mousey intelligence and... whatever Pinky provides..."He said.
"Poit! Yay, we're going through the walls again, narf!..."Pinky laughed.
"I doubt I'll ever get used towards such strange phenomenon..."Brain grumbled as he felt another cold shiver go up his spine.
Danny ignored them and soon phased inside, continuing his search for the blonde Kaboom girl
"I sure hope that they manage to find Katie and fast..."Tucker said, not liking the current situation they're in right now.
"I just hope that Brian or whatever his name is doesn't try to take advantage of the situation too much..."Sam said, crossing her arms.
The two teens then sat tight, unaware that they were missing out on all the chaos that would soon start.
Inside
Danny, now invisible and intangible, carried Pinky and The Brain as they tried to locate Katie.
"Now, where did you say she was?..."Danny asked.
Brain checked over his compass again and making a couple of educated analysis.
"According to my calculations, she's 200 feet below us..."The rodent said, pointing down.
"Then that's where were going..."Danny said as then went down.
After a few moments, they managed to find an underground bunker which is also where Vlad's lab is.
"Made it..."He said while Pinky and the brain looked around the lab.
"Narf..."Pink said in an awed tone. "This place has tons more stuff and seems even bigger than Acme Labs..."He commented.
"Perhaps Pinky, but this just tells me that he's simply compensating for something..."Brain grumbled, jealousy bubbling inside of him. "Not to mention, the decor he has chosen leaves something to be desired..."He added, eyeing a lot of the football merchandice that decorates the place.
Danny ignored him and focused on looking for Katie. He started searching for anything suspicious.
The problem with that was how everything was suspect, given this was Vlad's lab. Who knew what schemes he had cooking.
"Where is she?..."Danny mused as he looked around, while Pinky and the Brain kept riding on his shoulders.
"Zort! Look Brain, a cool glowy thingy..."Pinky said as he pointed to an object in Vlad's lab.
"That's a lamp, Pinky..."Brain corrected. "And a tacky one at that..."He muttered, not liking his rival's choice of decor.
"Will you two shush up, what part of being sneaky, is hard to understand?..."Danny whispered.
Brain frowned.
"I do not enjoy some teenage mutation giving me orders..."The little mouse said while Pinky kept looking at the lab like he was in some kind of daydream, randomly speaking whatever thought he could think up again.
"I don't even wanna know what he could be thinking of right now..."The ghost boy thought, trying to focus.
Soon, Danny spotted what looked to be a portrait of Vlad dressed like a king. Behind it, it looked like some kind of holding facility room.
"Well, this doesn't look suspicious at all?..."Danny said sarcastically.
"Really? Looks pretty strange to me..."Pinky said in a clueless way.
"Sarcasm is a foreign language to him, isn't it?..."Danny asked flatly.
"Undoubtedly..."Brain said with a sigh.
Danny ignored the mutated lab mice and then began to phase in and enter the other side, to see for himself if Katie was in there or not.
"Now if I were crazed attention-seeking evil Fruitloop, where would I hide-...Oh no..."Danny gasped when he saw Katie.
Or at least, her silhouette of her monster form that seemed to be in a special cage.
"Is this the part where you tell each other to be careful?..."Vlad snarked, appearing out of thin air.
Pinky jumped into Brain's arms, scared of the vampiric ghost.
"Vlad!..."Danny yelled.
"Ah yes, the habitual calling each other's names out..."Vlad wiped his knuckles on his cape and chuckled. "How charming..."
"It's the vampire!..."Pinky shouted and pointed.
"Pinky, he's not a real vampire. He's just a ghost with a very bizarre appearance and questionable fashion sense..."Brain said, though he knew it didn't really change the fact that they were in trouble now.
Vlad noticed the mouse and smirked, apparently ignoring the remarks about his appearance.
"Ah, Daniel. How thoughtful that you brought my dear cat Maddie, a snack..."He said in a cruel way.
Brain got upset about that and snapped.
"I am the Brain, the greatest mind of our time and the rightful future ruler of the world. I will not be used as a feline dinner. I have temporarily aligned myself with the local town's supernatural vigilante in order to thwart whatever scheme for world domination you've come up with..."The little rodent snapped, hating that he dismissed him like that.
Vlad raised a brow at this, surprised by the fact that he could talk but given the things he has seen over the years, he didn't really care that much.
"Huh, I see that you have acquired rather interesting pets, Daniel..."Vlad commented, irritating the rodent even more over being dismissed like that.
"I am a genetically altered lab mouse with plans to take over the world, not cat food or someone's pet!..."Brain yelled at him, his ego obviously hurt by what he just said.
"Zort...but Brain...remember when we lived with Elm-..."Pinky was cut off them Brain stomped on his food, making him shut up.
"We agreed to NEVER speak of that again!..."Brain yelled, making it obvious it was a touchy subject for him.
Danny and Vlad both were confused but decided to get back on topic.
"Okay, ignoring Pinky and the Brain here...you know why I'm here Vlad..."Danny said.
"Hmmm...is it to finally tell me that you changed your mind and have agreed to forsake your father and become my son and heir instead..."Vlad said.
"FAT CHANCE, Fruitloop! I'm a proud Fenton..."Danny said. "I'm to warn you that you're making a huge mistake. Now hand her over!..."He said.
"If you want to say hi, you just had to ask, Daniel..."Vlad said, deciding to unleash the monster.
Vlad then pulled out a remote and pressed a button. Soon enough, some door opened up and there, the hero and his mousy accomplices soon saw a large, green monster that was restrained...one that also had a strange metal collar on it's neck.
"KATIE?!..."Danny thought in shock while Brain and Pinky eyes widen at the sight of the she-beast.
"Oh my, she's even more hideous than I thought she would be..."Brain commented as he saw the beast.
"You're telling me..."Danny muttered, since he can't argue with that.
"Really Brain, she looks familiar to me for some reason?..."Pinky said, wondering just where he had seen this beast before.
He was ignored again as the hero and villain began to banter back and forth against one another.
"Well, I see you have come all this way, so I might as well let you feed my new pet..."Vlad said as he began his typical gloating. "By feed I mean let you get eaten..."He said in a smug tone, intent to see Danny taken care of.
His younger enemy, however, stood his ground.
"Vlad listen to me! You don't understand! You made a mistake.…"Danny yelled, grabbing the halfa by the collar.
The ghost boy was ignored as Vlad brushed his hands off.
"Oh please, Daniel. This old trick? You think I forgotten a crucial detail that would deride my plan of taking control of this beast?..." Vlad asked, gesturing to Katie.
There was something on her neck and the ghost boy did not like this.
"What's that?!..."Danny demanded, pointing at it.
"Wouldn't you like to know? It's called a collar. You really should work to get out of the C student status..."Vlad mocked, as he was about push the button on the remote.
Danny rolled his eyes. The ghost boy waved his arms in protest of the older half ghost's decision.
"Stop the mocking me. I know that you must have found out by now..."He accused.
Vlad just raised a brow. While he still had an arrogant look on his face, it had a touch of confusion now.
"What on Earth are you talking about Daniel? Find what out?..."He asked, lost.
Danny just rolled his eyes.
"Don't play dumb. You know what I'm talking about. You found out about Katie's secret, so that's why you took her!..."He accused.
Now Vlad looked lost.
"What are you saying? I have done nothing with that annoying little girlfriend of yours. All I have done today is acquire a new minion..."Vlad said as he pointed at the monster.
Now, it was Danny's turn to look surprise and lost here. Usually, Vlad was ahead of him with his schemes, but he seemed genuinely lost. Then he remembered who he was talking to, so he thought his foe was trying to play tricks on him again.
"Your mind games won't work on me this time, Vlad. Katie's a lot more than just some teenage girl. You'd have found out by now..."He said.
"I keep telling you that I have done nothing with your pathetic little girlfriend. I haven't even seen her since I sent my...I mean, YOUR last gift to her..."Vlad said, laughing at the joke he had pulled on his young arch-rival.
Danny's eyes widened at that, realizing it wasn't a joke.
"Wait? You don't know?..."Danny blinked. "You seriously don't know?..."He asked, lost.
"And just what am I missing?..."Vlad asked, sounding impatient and annoyed.
Before Danny could think about the wisdom in his following actions, he just blurted out the first thing that came to his mind upon hearing all of this.
"That's Katie! You really didn't figure this out already?!..."Danny pointed at the monstrous girl.
"Wait...this...beast...is that girl?!..."Vlad asked, looking like he didn't believe him.
Seeing the damage that he had done, Danny sighed and decided to just come out and say it
"Uh, yeah...she has powers too...and she has no control over them or is even aware of them to begin with..."Danny said, raising his arms. "Isn't that why you kept sending all those gifts in my name and kept trying to use her to mess with me?!..."He said, since he thought that was part of the reason Vlad seemed determined to torture him with her.
To his surprise, the older half ghost was just floating there with a strange look on his face. Vlad was stunned silent and Danny wondered what he was up to. Suddenly, the evil halfa found himself chuckling...before it turned into guffawing laughter.
"HAHAHAHA! Oh my...hahaha..."Vlad laughed, looking like he'd pass out from being out of breath.
Danny looked annoyed.
"What's so funny?!..."He yelled.
"Hahaha! I just thought that blonde girl was just annoying to you...but...but she's...she's that grotesque beast...and you are stuck with her!...This is priceless!..."Vlad laughed, looking like he's crying at this point.
Danny growled and had eyes glowing intensely.
"IT'S NOT FUNNY!..."Danny yelled as he sent some blasts at him, each one blocked. "And I haven't forgotten the nightmare you put me through with that stupid letter or Chez Etoile!..."He yelled, snarling rage.
"And I thought your mother made a huge mistake in her romantic partner but it seems that trait is genetic..."Vlad said, scoffing at Danny.
Danny growled at him, and before he could make him pay, Vlad couldn't help but continue gloating, kneeling over in laughter.
"Oh, how I wish I had recorded this moment..."Vlad wiped a tear from his eye before adopting a more serious face.
"Okay, thank you for the laugh, it's been so long since I had a good one like that but now we must get to business..."He said, as he quickly managed to compose himself.
"Just let her go Vlad. Katie might be crazy and can turn into a monster, but she has nothing to do with this..."Danny ordered.
"Sorry, Daniel but no can do. I went to a lot of trouble to bring her here and use her against you. I'd rather not let all that effort go to waste..."Vlad said. "Though, I'll admit that I thought it was just a coincidence that you had been fighting this beast at Katie's house, it makes no difference to me...though it's still hilarious to see what poor taste you have..."The villain mocked.
"Then again, you never really had the best luck with girls, did you Daniel?..."He added, still making fun of him.
Danny growled.
"Says the guy who's spent over 20 years obsessed over the same woman who doesn't even like him and planning to kill the only friend he ever had, all over an accident!..."Danny yelled.
Pinky and the Brain heard this.
"Narf, 20 years just to still want someone who isn't interested. Zort, that's even more crazy than we usually do, Brain.."Pinky commented.
"Indeed, only someone who is insane and bitter would obsess over a single, unachievable goal for that long..."Brain comment, not seeing any irony in his statement.
The mice were ignored as the empowered humans kept talking.
"I am not amused to being ignored..." Brain grumbled, still unheard by them.
"So, what's the evil plan this time? Sick the big monster on any teams against the Packers?..."Danny said, rolling his eyes in the process.
"Not quite...to make a long story short, I have been looking to acquire new minions lately since both Skulker, my vultures and my ghostly animals have had...rather lackluster performances in the past and...well, let's just say that Valerie hasn't been as reliable lately. When I saw this beast...or Katie...in action a few weeks ago and realized it...or rather she is neither ghost, nor human and that she can give even you a hard time in battle, I thought to myself...I could really use brute force like that..."Vlad said in a faux cheerful tone.
"So...you're going to offer her a chance to join you?..."Danny questioned, unsure if he is being serious or not.
He doubted that Katie would accept. She might be trouble, but she's not evil. Yes, her curse makes her dangerous and out of control but he knew that in her human form, the form where she has ANY semblance of control, she is not the kind of person who would choose to work for Vlad.
"That's where you're wrong Daniel. I'm not going to give her a choice. To quote our military, she's been drafted..."Vlad said, crossing his arms.
The others were shocked and horrified to hear that. Danny, on the other hand, was just angry once he realized what he really meant and ready to punch his teeth out.
"So, you want to make her your SLAVE?!..."Danny yelled, actually looking mad. "ARE YOU NUTS?..."He yelled, clenching his fists.
"Slave is such an ugly word. I prefer to call it an unpaid internship and gaining a long term errand girl..."Vlad waved off.
"So, you're basically taking away your free will, going to make her do your dirty work and not even pay her or send her back to her family...that's slavery!..."Danny yelled at him, eyes glowing green in anger.
Vlad waved it off.
"Someone's getting lucky in college. Call it what you want but it won't matter once I obtain the power to rule the world and destroy all who oppose me..."He said.
"Zort, he almost sounds a little like you Brain..."Pinky commented, only to be smacked by his friend.
"Pinky, I am nothing like this egotistical football fanatic with his unhealthy interest in one woman and I take offense at that remark..."Brain yelled but he was ignored as the ghost boy tried to argue against his nemesis.
"How do you expect to even get her to listen to you? Kaite's too wild to listen to anyone. Not even her parents can control her..."He said.
"I don't care about a couple of weak parents who can't handle some bratty teenager with anger issues..."Vlad said arrogantly. "It helps I have something they don't..."He said as he grinned.
"You see, I've placed a brainwave manipulator onto the girl, keeping her under my control through her mind, where she will stay under my command and work as my sleeper agent, awakening to my beck and call…"Vlad extended him arms with a grin as he continued.
"Imagine the possibilities of unrivaled conquests waiting to happen. I could not just this backwater town, but the world. And this is just the beginning…"He said, grinning darkly.
Brain saw this and crossed his arms.
"Evil...but ingenious...It's actually an effective method since her strength could outdo most armies..."Brain said, hating that this was a pretty good plot and that HE'S not the one who thought of it.
Danny sent him a glare before sending a nasty look at his regular.
"Vlad, you don't know what you are dealing with? You won't control her for long..."Danny insisted.
Vlad just brushed him off, thinking it was a plan to trick him.
"Now, Daniel. I get you miss the times you share...but I have a minion to use in my plans...but who knows... when I'm ruler of the world, I might still let her keep you..."He said mockingly, waving the controls in front of the ghost boy as he released Katie.
"NO!..."Danny yelled but it was too late.
Vlad had released Katie from her containment cage and snapped his fingers. Fully confident that she is now under his complete control.
"Now go, my minion, and put an end to all my obstacles!..."Vlad gloated.
Katie roared as the restraint were unlocked. Now free, the girl rampaged around, testing the limits of her freedom before a stinging pain came from the back of her head.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!..."Katie yelled and became angrier but also wilder.
The monstrous girl then roared louder as she rammed her head everywhere, crumbling the walls of the lab but ignoring those Vlad wanted harmed. The evil half ghost saw this and got mad, as he was at a lost at why she wasn't obeying his orders.
"No! You idiot!..."Vlad fiddled with the controls. "You're supposed to finish off Daniel!..."He ordered as he pressed more buttons.
"VLAD! DON'T!..."Danny yelled but his enemy refused to listen.
Vlad kept trying to control Katie and the cursed girl ignored him, causing more destruction in her wake. Vlad kept pressing buttons, shocking the girl again but she still didn't budge or listen to anything he ordered her to do.
He tried again.
Once again, he got no response as he went intangible for a flying hand. The older halfa re engaged the girl's restraints, only finding it harder to contain her now.
The cursed girl, however, sent a scathing glare to the evil halfa and recognizes him as the cause of her pain.
"Back off you ugly fake Dracula!..."She roared before breaking some of those restraints, going into a berkerker mode while her captor just watched.
Vlad was horrified to see that his machinery didn't work. Even more so when the monster girl was still refusing his orders.
"What's going on!?…"Vlad watched as Katie continued to rampage against her restraints.
The girl was growing more monstrous and powerful by the moment. It wouldn't be long before everything went out of control, and the man press the buttons on his control.
"The controls aren't responding! What's happening!?…"He complained.
The walls rumbled as they bend against the girl's strength. Danny side steeed the rumble falling from the ceiling as his fear spiked. He also made sure to keep hold on Pinky and The Brain, to keep them from being crushed to.
"Narf! I think she doesn't wanna work for him..."Pinky said, stating the obvious.
"Indeed, nor does she care to take it out on anything in her path!..."Brain said, not liking this while his new rival just tried to regain control.
However, it seemed unlikely, as Katie's temper...and rampage, just seem to get worse now.

1) I am half-half about it. The original version will always be better in my opinion.
2) They are responsible for Pinky, The Brain, Minerva and CB, as well as a few other experiments gone wrong.
