Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail.
AN: WARNING: Lots of cringes XD. I had to pause writing a couple of times at the nonsense my brain came up with. It's pretty corny. I am not trying to insult anyone or their sexuality. I wrote this for humorous reasons. The new chapter of dream walkers should be out soon. As always, I apologize for any spelling or grammar mistakes. I'm open to requests or ideas you would like to see, although I can't guarantee I can get to all of them. I think it would be an enjoyable challenge for me and it will make me push myself. Enjoy, and I love hearing any feedback. This is my longest chapter yet!
It was late at night in the city of Magnolia. The streets were practically empty since almost everyone was in their homes sleeping the night away. Everyone's lights were turned off, except for one window in Strawberry Street. Just below the window, you can hear the sounds of girls giggling and chatting as they drank alcohol. The girls in question were Lucy Heartfillia, Levy McGarden, and Cana Alberona.
"Shush, wait, I got one," said Lucy as she cracked her fingers to prepare for typing. She was sitting at her writing desk with her laptop on and had a blank document open. She cleared her throat and said in a deep voice. "I burn for you, Gray. Feel what you do to me. You make me SO hot." Lucy tried to muffle her giggles. Levy and Cana didn't even try to stop and cackled.
"Oh, my god Lucy, you're killing me here. Do more! Do Gray now!" Cana smacked Lucy's shoulder repeatedly as she continued to laugh.
Levy pushed Lucy a little to the side and shared the chair with Lucy, both half on the chair. "I have the perfect thing for Gray." She cleared her throat and said in a low tone as she typed the words onto the screen. "Oh, Natsu. Only you can melt the ice surrounding my heart."
More boisterous laughter came from the girls as they each high-fived Levy. "Thank you. Thank you," she said, doing dramatic bows in her seat. She turned back to look at Cana. "Think you can top that?"
"Challenged accepted," said Cana with a wolfish grin as she rubbed her hands together in excitement. "Step aside ladies and let the master do her magic." Her hands hovered over the keyboards as contemplated on what to write. Cana got a spark of inspiration and started to type furiously. "Read it and weep," said Cana smugly as she crossed her arms and leaned back against the chair.
Levy and Lucy leaned closer to see what was on the screen. Levy read out loud, "I think we can put that ice to better use, said Natsu as he put his hand on Gray's thigh. Your dragon's craving ice cream." She looked at Lucy in confusion, who was confused as well. "What does that mean?"
"Think about it." Cana's smile grew bigger as she watched the two girls go deep in thought.
Lucy pondered over Cana's cryptic words and smacked Cana's shoulder with a red face when she figured it out. "Cana," she yelled, looking over the window to make sure Natsu doesn't pop out of nowhere. Lucy whispered in Levy's ears what Cana meant and turned bright red as well.
Lucy had a side job at Sorcerer's Weekly, writing short romance stories she submitted once a week. She wrote it under an alias by the name Layla Star. Lucy was currently suffering from writer's block, so she called for her two favorite gals to help her give her feedback and advice. Levy, since she has read a lot of books and Cana for all of her worldly experiences. Both told her to use something she was familiar with and write about them as a starting point.
What started as a small brainstorming session turned into a full-blown writing game. The names of all the members of Fairy Tail were written on slips of paper and thrown into a hat. The girls took turns picking out one name out of the hat. Then they would have to decide all the possible ships they can pair with that said person and make a case for the best one. Lucy would then have to write a fanfiction about the pair, with Levy and Cana adding things here and there.
This was the third session of their 'book club' and Lucy had to admit, although she was skeptical of the idea at first, it was really helping her improve her writing skills. Plus, she was having the time of her life. Sure, some lines she wrote were very corny and cliche, but it made the experience so much more hilarious and worthwhile. Interestingly enough, they were pairing a lot of the guys together. It never hurts to broaden your horizons.
"Okay, okay. That's enough." Lucy stood up and fanned herself as she tried to cool herself down. These sessions always made her hot and bothered. She picked up the hat with the names on it and faced the two girls. She asked, "Who's turn is it?"
"Oh me," said Levy excitedly as she raised her hand up. She was slightly drunk, so when she stood up to get the hat from Lucy, she almost tripped over the rug. She giggled and held onto the desktop right herself up. She took the hat from Lucy and sat on the floor cross-legged. She closed her eyes and shuffled through the papers to pick a name. After a few seconds, she finally picked one up and opened her eyes. She took the paper and slowly opened it and gasped excitedly. "Oooooooh, this is good."
Cana peered over Levy's shoulder and cackled when she read the name. "Oh Mavis, this really is good." She opened another wine bottle and drank from the bottle.
"What? Who is it," asked Lucy as she scrambled over to Levy. She took the slip from Levy and read the name. Her eyes widened in shock when she read the name of their resident lightning mage and shook her head no. "Nope. No way. I am not heading down that route. I am not looking to get killed." She was firmly against writing fanfictions about Laxus because if he found out, she did not want to face his wrath. She also might have a tiny crush on him, but she would not admit that.
"Come on, Lucy," whined Cana. "You know the rules. Or are you too scared," she teased.
"Cana, if he somehow finds out, we will all get electrocuted. I'll get the worst of it because I'm writing it. I'm too young and pretty to die," Lucy wailed as she tried to convince them that this was a horrible idea and so many things can go wrong.
"Lu-chan. It's not like he's going to read it," said Levy calmly. Sure, she knew the dangers as well if it ever fell into his hands, but there was no chance that would happen. "Plus, the rules of the game state you can't refuse. And you promised to follow the rules," she smiled cheekily.
Cana who caught onto what Levy was doing slammed the last nail in the coffin. "I thought Celestial Mages never break their promises," she said, trying to fight the smirk that threatened to form on her face. It wasn't right to bring Lucy's magic into this, but she promised them. She knew Lucy was slightly intoxicated, and if she tried to spur her to do something, she would agree to it.
Lucy let out a loud groan as she buried her hands in her face and sighed in defeat. She did promise to follow the rules, and her word is her bond. "Fine," she hesitantly agreed. She went to go sit at her writing desk and opened a new blank document. She looked at Levy who had a blank whiteboard clean and ready. Cana was relaxing on her bed as she drank more wine. "Let's come up with names."
"We only need one name and that is Freed." Levy wrote Freed and Laxus's name and drew a big heart around it. "Think about it. A relationship between a man and his bodyguard," rambled Levy passionately with a scary glint in her eyes. Once Levy started, it was hard to stop her. "And he's his closest friend, so they know everything about each other."
"Here, here," agreed Cana as she raised her bottle in the air. Her tone suddenly got serious when she sat upright on the bed, poker-faced. "Here's a question."
Levy and Lucy held their breaths in anticipation as they waited to see what Cana wanted to ask.
She asked, "Who's gonna give and who's gonna get?"
Lucy and Levy fell from their spots and onto the ground with their legs in the air. Lucy the first to recover and quickly stood up. "What kind of question is that?! Isn't it obvious?! Of course Laxus is giving and Freed is getting. I mean, have you seen the man," yelled Lucy, with Levy nodding her head fervently in agreement.
Cana raised her hands in defeat and slowly backed away. "Okay. Okay. I just want to make sure," she reassured them. "Is this enough for you to write something, Lucy?" She pointed to the whiteboard with Levy's list of scenarios.
"Yeah, I think I can whip something up," she said as she felt the wheels turning in her head. She closed her eyes so that she could get in the zone. When an idea popped into her head, she opened her eyes. She typed rapidly, making sure she forgot nothing.
Freed couldn't resist looking at his tattooed chest, so he took another peek, hoping that he wouldn't get caught. Feeling someone's gaze on him, he looked up to see blue-gray eyes staring at him in amusement. "Like what you see," said Laxus teasingly, grinning even more when he sees the pink on Freed's cheeks. He moved closer to Freed to give him a better view. "I can show you something even better," he said and dropped the towel he was wearing around his hips. He was naked as the day he was born, his member standing proudly. "Shocking, isn't it?" He couldn't help but brag.
She was about to finish up when a chime came from her phone. She paused in her writing to read the text message and groaned.
"What is it asked," asked Levy.
"It's the editor at the magazine," replied Lucy. "I forgot to give her my new story." She yawned and looked at the clock. It said 3:20 a.m. She should go to bed now and wake up early in the morning. "I'll just give it to her in the morning at 9." She got up from the chair and stretched her stiff muscles from sitting too long. "Come on, girls, time for bed. You can stay here for the night." And they all went to bed.
The Next Morning:
Light cracked through the window and shone on Lucy's face, causing her to groan. She twisted her body, so that she was facing away from the window. Suddenly her eyes shot open, and she sat up, looking at her clock. It was 8:30. She was supposed to be up at 8.
"Shit, shit, shit," muttered Lucy as she gathered her clothes to head to the bathroom. "Girls, get up. I'm going to be late." Levy and Cana let out groans of protest but complied.
Lucy opened the curtain to her bathroom and quickly turned on her shower and took the fastest shower in her life. As she was drying herself, she remembered her manuscript and groaned.
"Cana," she called from the bathroom. "Can you print out my manuscript? It's the one with no name on it. Just put in the blue folder and stuff it in my bag."
"Sure, no problem." Cana yawned and got up from the futon Lucy laid for her to sleep on. She headed towards Lucy's laptop to print the said document. She clicked on the folder to see two files that were unnamed. She clicked her tongue in frustration and yelled, "there's two unnamed documents here, which one is it?"
Lucy turned on her blow dryer to dry her hair. "It's the older one," she replied over the noise.
"What," yelled Cana. She couldn't hear over the blow dryer. She thought she said the newer one.
"The older one," she repeated once more, the blow dryer muffling her voice.
Cana still couldn't hear her, so she just printed out both and put them in the folder. She stuffed the folder in Lucy's black tote bag. "Okay, it's done." She headed to Lucy's kitchen to join Levy, who was making them breakfast. "Make me a black coffee. I have a feeling I'm going to need it today," said Cana as she felt her head pound. She wasn't hungover since she drank a little, but she was not a morning person.
Lucy came out of the bathroom, dressed and made up for the day. You wouldn't think she was rushing around 10 minutes ago. She grabbed her bag and snagged a piece of toast off the table. "I'm heading out. See you guys later. Don't forget to lock up when you leave," she said as she headed towards the door. She locked her door and rushed towards her editor's office.
"Hmmm," said the editor as she skimmed through her story. Lucy sat there nervously, hoping that she would approve. She finally said, "It's different from your usual work. But I like it. I see great potential in this. Good job." She gave Lucy a tiny smile, causing her to relax. "I'll see you next week."
The editor stood from her chair and gave Lucy a handshake. She returned the gesture as well. Lucy skipped happily out of the office and headed back to her apartment. She couldn't wait to see her story published tomorrow.
She was going to regret this thought as soon as possible.
The Next Day:
"No. No. No. No. No. No," ranted Lucy as she read her story with wide eyes. This isn't real. Maybe someone is playing a joke on me, she thought nervously. Or my mind is playing tricks. Let's just close the magazine and open it again. Lucy did just that and to her horror her suspicions were true. Her face paled. Somehow she gave her editor the fanfic she wrote about Laxus and Freed, and it got published for the entire continent to see.
For once she was grateful that she wrote under an alias, but it doesn't mean that eventually Laxus will find out who the author is. Lucy ran to the guild to find Levy and Cana. She had to tell them about the situation and warn them in advance.
Meanwhile, upstairs at the guild:
"Bwahahahahaha," wheezed Bickslow as he slumped forward in his seat, repeatedly slamming his fist on the table, trying to contain his laughter. "Oh, my god. This is gold. Whoever wrote this sure has major balls. I need to congratulate them." He used the magazine to fan himself so that he can cool off.
Bickslow was skimming through Sorcerer's Weekly as he looked at the scantily clad bodies of female mages when his eyes caught a familiar name. Rather two familiar names in the short stories column. Being the ever-so curious man and an occasional avid reader, he read the story, which explains his current state of laughter. He couldn't wait to see the chaos this would cause for the two men in question.
Laxus scowled at Bickslow's excessive laughter. It was getting annoying. "What the hell is so funny?"
"Nothing," said Bickslow, out of breath from all the laughing he did. "Just read a funny story."
Freed paused in his reading and looked up from his page to glare at Bickslow. He was trying to read a book. Although he should have known better than to read at the guild since it was impossible to get some peace there. "Since when you read the short stories column in Sorcerer's Weekly?"
"Since now. Let's just say there was some interesting content in it this time," replied Bickslow with a cheeky grin. Freed huffed and went back to his book.
Bickslow got excited when he saw Mirajane reading the magazine and dropped it in shock. Her lips quivered as she looked upstairs towards Freed. Let the show begin, he thought as he watched Mirajane head towards the second floor.
Mirajane and Freed have started to date in secret. The only people who knew about their relationship were Mira's siblings and Laxus and the other members of the Thunder Legion. It looks like everyone was going to find out.
Freed was sitting in his seat reading a book, when Mira marched up to him in tears and slapped him across the face. "How could you," she cried, tears streaming down her face. "Is he the reason you wanted to keep our relationship a secret?" She pointed her finger at Laxus accusingly, who looked confused. "Am I.. Am I the side chick in this situation," she wailed as she buried her hands in her face.
"Wait. Miss Mira. I'm confused. Let's sit and talk…" Freed tried to reason with her and stop her crying. He couldn't bear to see Mira cry.
"There's nothing to talk about Freed. I don't want to see you again," she sniffed, choking back a sob. She went back downstairs and ran into the kitchen.
"Miss Mira," yelled Freed. He attempted to grab Mira's arm but failed as she twisted at the last second and avoided his grasp. He was very confused about the situation. Mira was accusing him of adultery and with Laxus of all people.
He was about to go after her when he saw Levy, Lucy and Cana follow her. Just before Lucy entered the kitchen, she signaled to him she would take care of this and he was visibly relaxed.
"I don't understand why Mira is mad at me. I'm pretty sure I did nothing wrong." Freed gave a sad sigh. He notices Bickslow's grin and narrows his eyes at him in suspicion. "You wouldn't happen to be responsible for this, are you?"
Bickslow raised his hands up in surrender. "Hey, I wish I could take credit for this, but sadly it wasn't me." He gave him a perverted smile. "Besides, I'm not the one ogling Laxus and having shower sex with him."
Laxus spit out the beer out of his mouth when he heard Bickslow say that. He took a napkin to clean his mouth and the mess he made on the table. He glared at Bickslow as sparks covered his body. "What did you just say," he growled darkly.
"Take a look at this." Bickslow thrusted the magazine into Freed's outstretched hand, who was currently the safer option. Laxus peered over his shoulder to read the page as well. Freed skimmed the words on the page. The more he read, the redder his face got. "Lies!" Freed yelled as he crumbled the magazine in anger. "Who dares to write such slander."
"Ummmm, the name of the writer was written on the magazine you just crumbled up," Bickslow pointed out to Freed. Freed and Laxus both glared at him, causing him to shrink back in fear.
Laxus snatched the magazine from Freed's hands and uncrumpled it. He read the name of the author, Layla Star. "Guess we have to give this Layla Star a visit at the headquarters."
Meanwhile, with the girls:
"How could he," wailed Mira with Cana patting her back in a soothing manner. "I really thought he liked me. And instead of telling it straight to my face, I had to find out in that article."
"Umm, we can explain that," said Levy, who made herself smaller when Mira emitted a dark aura. Mira swatted Cana's hand off her back and ran towards Levy.
"What do you mean," said Mira darkly, grabbing Levy's shoulders and squeezing them a little hard, shaking her back and forth.
Levy rubbed the back of her head uncomfortable. She started feeling embarrassed and awkward. "It's actually a funny story. But Lu-chan can tell you the whole thing. It was her idea," she finished quickly when she saw Mira's gaze grow darker. She wrenched Mira's hand off and pushed Lucy towards the devil, finding sanctuary behind Cana who was far away from the whole thing. Sorry Lu-chan, thought Levy.
Traitors, thought Lucy when she stood in front of Mira. She never felt terrified in her entire life. How was she supposed to know the two were dating and that her story would get published? Maybe if she told the truth, Mira will spare them.
Lucy proceeded to tell Mira the whole thing, sparing no detail. From her writer's block, to the 'book club'/brainstorm sessions and the accidental publication of the Freed/Laxus story.
When Lucy finished explaining, she hung her head in shame. She almost ruined her close friend's relationship because of negligence and poor writing skills. If she didn't have writer's block, this whole situation could have been avoided.
"I am really sorry," apologized Lucy while bowing towards Mira. "I didn't mean for this to happen. Please accept my sincere apologies." Lucy was afraid to look up and see Mira's reaction.
Levy and Cana also bowed their heads and mumbled their apologies.
Mira stared at Lucy for a few seconds and finally opened her mouth to respond. "How could you…"
"I know Mira," said Lucy, feeling worse by the minute. What I did was wrong."
"... not ask me to be part of the club," finished Mira, glaring at Lucy with her hands on her hips.
Lucy whipped her head up quickly and looked at Mira in disbelief. She had to make sure if she heard Mira correctly. "Wait, what?"
"I thought we were close friends. If you were going to write romance stories about guild members, I should have been the first person you'd ask for help," Mira pouted as her dark aura faded away.
Lucy felt the tension leave her body, relief replacing it. Cana called out with a hopeful voice, "Does that mean we're forgiven about the whole Freed thing?"
"Oh no, I'm still mad about that," said Mira with a scary smile. "But that can be easily corrected. All you have to do is write what I say. You'll continue the story, but there will be a twist."
"Well, luckily for you we have another meeting today around 10. You are welcome to come. Tell you what, you can come to every session," said Cana nervously, hoping to placate Mira. She did not want to face her wrath and would do what she wanted. "Congrats on being the new member."
"Oh, thank you guys." Mira grabbed all of them in a hug. "I have so many ideas, Lucy," chattered Mira excitedly. "I can't wait to see you bring them to life. Should I bring anything to the meeting?"
"Just bring yourself and that big beautiful brain of yours, Mira." Lucy internally cheered in victory for averting a crisis. Angry Mira wasn't something you wanted to mess with.
"I'll see you girls later," chirped Mira happily, almost skipping out of the kitchen. "I have to apologize and make up with my man," Mira finished with a wink and left the kitchen.
All three girls held their breath until Mira left the kitchen and let out a sigh of relief. "Oh my god, I thought we were going to die," mumbled Levy.
"We're still in the danger zone," cried out Lucy. "We need to convince Mira to not say anything to Freed or Laxus. If they find out, we really will die." Lucy turned to glare at Cana and Levy. "By the way, thanks for throwing me under the bus," she said sarcastically.
"Sorry Lu-chan, but we got out unscathed, thanks to you," said Levy apologetically. Cana nodded her head beside her.
Lucy sighed. She couldn't stay mad at them. "Let's just head our separate ways and bring something for the session. We'll reconvene at my house when it's time for our game."
At Sorcerer's Weekly:
Laxus left the office, covered with sparks all over his body, with Bickslow and Freed trailing behind him. Freed and Bickslow went to go find Mira and he headed home, the events of the entire day tiring him out. He was extremely pissed. He tried to get the employees to tell them who Layla Star, but to no avail. Layla Star did not exist and was a pen name the writer used so that they remained anonymous. Because of privacy and confidentiality issues, they could not divulge information about the actual identity of Layla Star.
To make matters worse, it seems that the story led to the creation of a fan group by the name of Fraxus. Him and Freed's name put together. As they were walking back towards their respective destinations, fangirls were asking for him and Freed's autographs. They had signs in their hands and merchandise with their names and faces on it, yelling out words of encouragement and that they supported their love.
"Tch," growled Laxus as he avoided the fans and lightning-teleported home in an alleyway. He didn't want to accidentally hurt anyone with his lightning.
He got home and huffed and puffed around the house as he got ready for bed. It's not that he wasn't against gay people or anyone. Everyone had their own taste and he couldn't care less about a person's sexual preference. What pissed him off was that someone was lying about his sexual preference, causing a lot of misunderstandings. A lot of guys were catcalling him and Freed and asked them if they wanted to have a threesome. When they politely refused, they asked if Bickslow was part of their amorous relationship, causing Bickslow to guffaw. No, I don't want to have a threesome with my best friends. I don't want to have a threesome with anyone; he screamed internally as he stripped off his clothes down to his boxers. He plopped on his bed and went under the covers. I like girls, especially one girl, Laxus continued the rant in his mind.
Laxus saw what the misunderstanding did to Freed and Mira, what is to say that the girl he liked wouldn't think the same. He hoped that Mira and Freed patched things up together. He knew Freed liked Mira for a while, and he finally had the courage to ask her out. He was happy for his friend and he deserved happiness.
Wait till I get my hands on you, Layla Star, thought Laxus before he closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep. I will make sure you get what you deserve.
At Lucy's house:
"Here are the stories we have written so far," said Lucy as she printed pages off her laptop and handed them to Mira. They wrote about Natsu and Gray, Jet and Droy and Bisca and Alzack.
Mira took them from Lucy and read them intently. She put her hand under her chin. "Oh my," she said with a blush on her cheeks. "I have never thought to put Natsu and Gray together. Now all their childish fights make so much sense. They are trying to get each other's attention. How cute," she said excitedly with a clap.
"Here, here," cheered Cana with a bottle in her hand. "I can only imagine the type of angry sex those two would have."
"So, how does this game work," asked Mira as she took a seat on the ground in front of the whiteboard. She had a big binder in her lap and no one had the courage to ask what was in it, but she brought it with her and said it was useful research material for Lucy.
"We have everyone's names in this hat and we take turns picking out a name. The person you choose is one part of the ship. Now everyone has to make a case for the best partner for that person. The person who makes the best case about the best pair gets their story written by Lucy," explained Levy. "We decide the setting and stuff later."
"And it's only members of our guild," asked Mira.
"Yeah," confirmed Lucy.
"You girls are so shortsighted and lacking imagination," exclaimed Mira. "Why limit yourselves to members of our guild. There's so many fish in the ocean. Think broader. So many couples are waiting to have their stories to be written," continued Mira passionately with a scary glint in her eyes.
"See," complimented Cana, throwing an arm around Mira's shoulder. "We've barely started and Mira is already giving helpful contributions."
"Shipping people is my passion," said Mira shyly, feeling bashful at the compliments thrown at her. "Which gives me an idea for the Laxus fanfiction. This is what you are going to do," she said with an evil smile.
The Next Day:
Laxus was impatiently tapping his foot on the floor, with Freed next to him, nervously biting his lip. Freed hasn't Mira since yesterday, so he's feeling a bit anxious. Laxus told Bickslow to bring Sorcerer's Weekly for the continuation of the story to see what else the author wrote. If it wasn't because the story was about him and Freed going at it like teenagers, he might have enjoyed the story or read it out of curiosity. Although it was a bit corny, Layla Star had some skill in writing, knowing how to bring the readers in.
Someone opened the door and Freed leaned over the railing to see who it was. Freed perked up when he saw Mira, who surprisingly looked happy as she skipped her way over to the bar. Freed quickly ran downstairs and went to talk to her.
"Oh, Miss Mira. I was so worried for you all night long. Please don't believe anything that article says. There's nothing between Laxus and I. You are the only person on my mind," ranted Freed as he frantically tried to prove his innocence to Mira.
"Oh Freed, you silly thing. You didn't have to worry about me at all. I was at Lucy's attending this book club meeting with Lucy, Levy and Cana," chirped Mira. She continued with her hand on her cheek. "I should apologize to you. I may have overreacted a bit. I should have known better than you will never cheat on me. And you don't have to worry about the article. It's been taken care of. I talked to the author. I made sure that she won't use your name anymore."
Freed felt relief spread through his body. Mira believes him and still wants to be with him. He felt so happy. However, there were two things that were bothering him. "Um, Miss Mira, you said that my name won't be used anymore. What about Laxus's," he asked, wondering if he was thinking too much about it. "Also, you mentioned the word she and that you talked with the author. Does this mean you know the actual identity of Layla Star?"
"Oops," said Mira. It was a slip of tongue. She was so excited about finally talking about her different ships that she accidentally let out she knew the author. She decided to partially come clean. She did promise Lucy that she wouldn't let anyone know about her side-gig as Layla Star, especially Laxus or anyone who could potentially tell him. "I do know Layla Star because of my connections to Sorcerer's Weekly. I convinced her to stop using your name in her stories, however, I promised her I won't reveal her identity and she is someone who values promises."
Freed was about to respond when he heard Bickslow enter the guild with the recent issue of Sorcerer's Weekly. He gave Mira a chaste kiss on the cheek. "I have to meet with Bickslow and Laxus to discuss something important right now. Will you do me the honor of accompanying me to that new French restaurant tonight," asked Freed, hoping to spend more time with Mira.
"Oh, Freed, I'm so sorry, but I have other plans later with the girls. We are having another book club meeting. Things have been getting very intense and interesting," said Mira regrettably, and saw Freed's face deflate a little. She beckoned him to come closer, and he did. She whispered seductively in his ear, "But I do hope that I can come over for a nightcap and possibly spend the night." She drew her lips away from Freed's ear and saw his face grow bright red when he figured out what she was insinuating.
"O-of course," stuttered Freed, trying to compose himself. "I will do you, I-I mean see you later." Freed ran upstairs with the tip of his ears bright red, leaving a giggling Mira behind.
Laxus bit the side of his mouth to keep himself from laughing when he saw Freed come upstairs, looking flustered. "From the look on your face, it seems that things went well with the demon."
Freed tried to compose himself in front of his leader. He cleared his throat. "Ahem, well yes. We plan to spend the evening together. She also mentioned being acquaintances with Layla Star and that she took care of everything, so that's a bonus. My brief bout of fame has come to an end." He turned to look at Bickslow, who had the magazine in his head. "Let's read this week's chapter and see how the story came to an end."
Freed gulped when he saw Laxus look at him in lust. He started to walk backwards each time Laxus came forward. He was so busy with getting away he didn't notice the bar of soap behind him.
"Freed, watch out," yelled Laxus, but it was too late. Freed slipped on the bar of soap and cracked his head on the bathroom floor. He didn't respond.
"Freed, wake up. Freed. Noooooooo," screamed Laxus with Freed in his lap. "I will never love anyone as much as I loved you," he declared, not even bothering to cover himself up.
"Wait what," gawked Freed, pausing the story as he reread the beginning to make sure he read things correctly. "She killed me off! And in such a lame way!"
Bickslow had tears coming out of his eyes as he laughed boisterously. Even Laxus let out a few chuckles at Freed's reaction.
Bickslow removed his helmet and wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes, some snickers still coming through. "I guess this is what Mira meant, it's been taken care of." He tried to keep his laughter in check, but failed as he let out another bout of laughter. "Keep reading," he insisted. "I bet the juicy parts are coming up."
"Fine," agreed Freed, although he read with less enthusiasm this time. The shock of his character's death was still fresh in his mind.
Laxus was in a bar drinking his sorrows away. It's been two weeks since Freed's accident and no matter how much he drank to numb himself, the pain was still there.
"Hey man, is this seat taken," a familiar voice called out and Laxus grunted a yes. He looked up to see familiar green hair. His heart sped up for a few seconds, but deflated when he realized the owner wasn't who he wanted it to be.
"Oh, it's just you," Laxus muttered, taking another swig from the bottle in front of him. Seeing him reopened the wound in his heart.
"I heard what happened. I'm sorry for your loss," said the Thunder God Slayer of Sabertooth, Orga. "I'm here for you if you need to talk." His voice turned seductive as he placed his hand on Laxus's shoulder. "Or if you want to use me as a distraction to take your mind off things. I've always had feelings for you."
"Hey," yelled Freed when Laxus snatched the magazine from him. "I was finished anyway. I could have handed it to you," he mumbled.
Are you freaking kidding me, thought Laxus incredulously as he reread the whole thing, getting further irritated by Bick's constant laughter. Out of all people, she paired me up with fucking Orga. At least Freed made sense. Heck, even Bickslow. But Orga! Sparks covered his body, and the lights in the guild were blinking. I can't stand that fucking prick. Always bragging that he's the better lightning mage, trying to fight me.
"Umm, Laxus-sama, I know that you are angry but if you don't control yourself, you're going to cause a blackout," Freed pointed out when he saw the lights grow very bright.
"She paired me with Orga. With Orga! It makes no fucking sense," complained Laxus, ignoring Freed's warning. "Besides, if anyone's doing the picking up it would be me, not him. I am in no way a bottom. I mean, I beat Jura when he couldn't. He got KOed in one hit," he continued to rant why he was better than Orga and most definitely a top.
"Wait, that's what you are worried about," asked Bickslow who was finding Laxus's outburst very amusing. "You're forgetting the entire problem. There're still stories written about you boss man."
"Dammit Bicks, you're right," replied Laxus, slowly calming down. Freed and Bickslow let out sighs of relief when the lights returned to normal. He continued, "Gonna have to take care of this." Laxus got up from the table and headed downstairs towards Mira.
"Oi, demon," shouted Laxus as he made his way to the bar, ignoring his teammates' cries of protest. He slammed his fist on the counter to capture Mira's attention. "Tell me who Layla Star is," he demanded. His potential love life was at stake here!
"No," Mira refused and glared at Laxus, crossing her arms across her chest.
"I just want to 'talk' to her," insisted Laxus, not backing down. Mira was his only lead.
"No, you're not," countered Mira. "You're just going to scare the poor girl. Why are you so obsessed with this? She did nothing wrong."
"Nothing wrong," said Laxus in disbelief, wondering if Mira was mentally unstable. "She's lying about my sexuality, that's what's wrong!
Mira shook her head back and forth as if scolding a naughty child. "Laxus, it's just a story everyone knows it's not real."
But you thought it was real, Laxus thought, but decided to keep his mouth shut since he valued his life.
Mira continued, "If anything, these stories are doing wonders for your image. Your popularity is at an all-time high."
Laxus gave her a look that said he did not believe her. "I'm serious, Laxus," stated Mira. "People are seeing you in a better light and part of it is because of those stories. It's like people are seeing a different side of you they've never heard of."
Laxus's mind went back to the time when he was strolling the streets and fans were approaching him. Sure they said they supported him and Freed's love but they also gave him words of encouragement, to keep Magnolia safe, take care of himself and that they were counting on him. Laxus felt a warmth spread through his chest when he recalled the kind words everyone gave him. Okay, the support was a good thing, but there was still the matter of his love life.
"Okay. Okay. I'll admit I'm liking my popularity streak," confessed Laxus. "However, Layla Star still needs to stop."
Mira narrowed her eyes in suspicion at Laxus. Something in her matchmaking brain is screaming that there was something more to this. She let out a sigh. "Laxus, unless you tell me the real reason you want her to stop, I won't utter a word." Mira was firm with her response.
Laxus muttered something under his breath, but she strained to hear him. Mira asked him to repeat himself.
"I said I don't want her to misunderstand," he admitted loudly with pink cheeks and froze. He looked around the guild to make sure the object of his affections wasn't around and let out a sigh of relief.
Mira felt her heartbeat faster and kept her squeal at bay. Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh, my god! Laxus has a crush on someone. I must make him tell me who it is, she thought. She tried to calm herself. "And who is this girl," asked Mira with sparkles in her eyes.
Dammit, thought Laxus. Might as well tell her, or else she'll pester me for the rest of my life.
He whispered shyly, "Lucy," hoping Mira did not hear him, but to his dismay she did. She was bouncing up and down, barely keeping herself in check.
Mira placed a hand on her cheek, swaying back and forth, feeling giddy about the whole thing. She had the perfect plan in mind. Sorry Lucy, but for the sake of love I must reveal your identity, she thought to herself. "And how long have you liked her?"
"For a while," he admitted, feeling more embarrassed by the minute. He wasn't even sure when, but he noticed his eyes would often fall on Lucy's form. They've gotten closer after the guild got back together. Whenever she wasn't looking he would observe her and his heart would beat faster whenever she greeted him with a smile.
He had it bad, and he knew it.
Mira set her plan in motion. "Okay," she chirped, writing something down on a strip of paper. "Come to this address." She handed Laxus directions to Lucy's house, although she knew he didn't know it was hers. "I want you to come here around 10 but stand outside under the window. You'll find out everything you need to know, but you must stay quiet," informed Mira with a smile.
Laxus took the paper from Mira. He gulped when he saw a scary glint in her eyes. "I'll be there," he said.
"Great," said Mira with a jump in her step. "See you later!"
Later that evening:
Laxus arrived on Strawberry Street at exactly the time Mira told him to come, with Freed and Bickslow tagging along out of curiosity. He would have arrived earlier, but he had to maneuver around groups of fans who were having a battle in the middle of Magnolia.
Apparently another group by the name of Oraxus was created because of Layla Star's new chapter. The group Fraxus and Oraxus were arguing with each other about which was the better ship which turned into a physical brawl.
It was the strangest but most entertaining sight Laxus has ever witnessed in his entire life, and he's seen a lot of things in his life.
Laxus focused his hearing on that one specific window Mira told him about. He raised a brow at the familiar female voices chattering. He swatted Freed and Bicks arms away when they asked him what was going on.
In the apartment (Laxus is hearing everything):
"Don't you think it was a little harsh to kill Freed in the story, Mira," Cana asked Mira. "I can only imagine the look on his face when he heard it. It was a nice touch adding Orga in the mix though."
Mira sighed. "I know but I can be a bit possessive at times so in a way I got what I wanted and gave a subtle warning to Freed about never cheating on me," she finished with a scary smile.
Lucy, Levy, and Cana shuddered at Mira's evil smile. Poor Freed, they thought.
"By the way, Lu-chan, how are the other stories coming along," asked Levy, hoping to change the subject.
"The Gray and Loke and Lyon and Gray stories are finished," answered Lucy, placing said stories on her desk. "I have to admit I wasn't expecting Gray to be so shippable. You guys made such compelling arguments I couldn't choose."
"Poor Juvia," said Cana with a playful smile. "I wonder how she would react to you, Lucy, a.k.a Layla Star, writing stories about her beloved Gray with people other than her as the primary love interest."
The girls all laughed at that, imagining the whole situation pan out.
Laxus's eyes opened wide open at that revelation. Lucy is Layla Star! This is getting really interesting, he thought with an evil smile. He was going to use this information to his advantage. He listened in on more in case there were more useful bits of information.
"Oh Lucy," Mira called out from her spot on the floor. "I have another idea for the Laxus story." Laxus, I hope you are catching all of this.
"Umm guys," said Lucy hesitantly. "What we are doing is wrong. Writing stories about Laxus. We should stop." It was a miracle that Laxus hasn't figured her out yet or come after her. She was feeling guilty about the whole thing and she wanted to stop as soon as she could. Plus, a part of her was hurting, imagining him with other people.
Cana responded to Lucy this time. She was curious about something. "Look at you suddenly growing a conscious. You know this isn't the first time you protested about writing about Laxus. You did not complain once about other people, but you always said something about Laxus. Why is that?"
Lucy flinched when she felt everyone's gaze on her. Her eyes were darting all over the room, thinking of a response to give them. She said nervously, "Girls. I told you why it's because…"
"... he'll electrocute us and stuff yada yada," interrupted Cana. She narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "Bullshit. We are in just as much danger of Gray, Natsu, or even Loke finding out and punishing us. Yet, you are worried about Laxus's reaction."
"Yes, Lucy, why is that," added Mira, putting her hand under her chin and looking at Lucy expectedly.
Yeah, Lucy. Why do you care about what I think, thought Laxus as he strained his ears to hear Lucy's response.
Lucy was feeling overwhelmed by the rapid questions the girls were asking him. She felt herself turn red with embarrassment.
Levy observed Lucy and had a bout of realization. "Oh my god, you like him," she screamed, Lucy turning more red just proved her observation.
"What," screeched Mira and Cana as they looked at Lucy who covered her red face. All three girls were bombarding Lucy with questions; how long, since when, why him, and etc.
"I don't know," Lucy mumbled in her hands. "It just happened. Now you understand why I was against it since the beginning."
"Oh, Lucy. I'm so sorry. It must have been painful for you to write him with another person," cooed Mira as she brushed strands of Lucy's hair behind her ears.
Lucy nodded shyly in response. Suddenly she shot her head up and looked at them frantically. "Please don't tell him," she begged. She liked the way things were between them and didn't want to make things awkward if he didn't like her back.
"Don't worry, Lu-chan. We won't say anything" exclaimed Levy with Mira and Cana nodding their heads in agreement. They changed their discussion to the twin dragon slayers of Sabertooth and how cute they looked together.
Meanwhile, Laxus had the biggest grin on his face. He ignored Bickslow and Freed, whispering his name and shaking him to get his attention. She likes me, Laxus thought happily, feeling warmth spread throughout his body. Lucy Heartfillia likes me, Laxus Dreyar. Take that men of Fiore, he thought smugly.
Laxus walked away from Strawberry Street towards his house, whistling along the way. Freed and Bickslow gawked at their leader. They wondered what got him in such a good mood. Realizing that getting his attention was futile, they went back to their respective homes.
Laxus was deep in thought as he went home. I'm going to confess to her, he thought, clenching his fist in resolve. I still have to punish her though for using my name without permission. And I know just what to do, he thought with a wolfish grin on his face.
The Next Day In the Evening:
Lucy hummed a tune as she entered her apartment with a bag of groceries. She was in a good mood since there was a good sale, so she saved a lot of money. She placed her things on the kitchen counter and turned on her light. Her heart stopped when she saw her unexpected houseguest.
Laxus was sitting at her writing desk, reading the fanfictions she printed out for Mirajane.
Lucy prayed he didn't notice her, but of course Lucy never has such luck as he looks towards her with a perverted smirk.
"Tsk tsk tsk," Laxus clicked his tongue at her, waving the pages over his head. He stands up to properly look at her. "You were the last person I was expecting to write naughty things like this. Such a dirty girl. Even using my name without my permission. I deserve some compensation."
Lucy bowed her head in panic. "I'm so sorry," apologized Lucy. "You're right. I shouldn't have used your name without your permission. I will do anything to make it up to you." She lifts her head back up and looks at him nervously.
Lucy watched as he stalked towards her. A delightful shiver ran down her back at the sight of his darkened, predatory eyes. Faster than she could blink, he pinned her against the wall, his arms on either side of her face. His eyes raked over her body and grinned evilly. "Anything?"
She shuffled her feet uncomfortably at his intense gaze. Lucy panics and just then, Laxus's lips teasingly graze against her ear. Laxus purposefully blows a hot breath into her ear. "L-laxus," squeaked Lucy, flushing further, trying to calm the fast pace of her heartbeat so that Laxus couldn't hear how much he affected her. She jumps in place when his lips nip her earlobes. "What if I said I want you," he whispered, "To be with you. I always had."
Lucy felt like she was on cloud nine. Laxus liked her too and wanted to be with her. "Me too," she whispered back, holding his gaze with her own.
Laxus continued to kiss Lucy's ear and she could feel herself growing weak in the knees. Unable to hold it in, Lucy lets out a tender moan of pleasure. "Stop teasing me," pants Lucy, twisting and writhing below him, but he pins her wrists against the wall.
"Tell me what you want," he whispered in a low voice and grinned when he saw Lucy shiver. He scowled when he saw Lucy biting her lip, trying to hold back her moan.
"There's no one here but us," he said gently, tucking a strand of Lucy's hair behind her ear, planting slow kisses from her neck, to her cheeks, to her eyes. He was kissing everywhere except that one spot Lucy wanted him to touch.
"Laxus," whined Lucy when he avoided her lips once more, and she felt his grin against her neck. She brings his head up and stares at him with lust in her eyes.
Both were silent as they continued to gaze at each other. They felt a shift in mood in the room but were hesitant to make a move. Laxus only intended to tease her, but when she let out that beautiful moan, he wanted to hear more, see more.
Suddenly Laxus leaned forward, grabbed her cheeks and pressed his lips against hers. Lucy's mouth was open in shock at the unexpected kiss, and he used that opportunity to slip his tongue in. Her eyes were open wide in shock as well, but she closed them and kissed him back.
It started out small and gentle, but the more they got into it, the bolder the kiss got. Laxus broke off the kiss and leaned his forehead against hers, both slightly out of breath. "If you want me to stop, I'll stop," he suggested. "But once we start, I won't be able to stop."
Lucy wrapped her arms around his neck and brought him closer. "Then don't," she whispered. Usually she wouldn't move so quickly with someone, but there was something about Laxus that made her want to throw caution to the wind. His words and his touch were so genuine that it made her heart full.
She crashed her lips against his, with Laxus eagerly responding. Her fingers digging through his hair, his arms wrapped around her waist as they moved their mouths over each other relentlessly.
"Mm," Laxus heard Lucy moan as he slid his hands down her back to cup her ass and lifted her up in the air. She wrapped her legs around his waist in response, locking her ankles in place.
She could feel his arousal pressed against her core and ground her hips against his, causing him to hiss in pleasure. She took that opportunity to break the kiss and nibble his jaw.
"B-bed now," she panted, trailing kisses down his neck, unbuttoning his shirt after each kiss.
Laxus shrugged off his shirt somewhere in the room. He grabs her by the back of her head and pulls her face close for a kiss once more, biting her lip. He walks them over to the bed and drops them there.
"Last chance," he murmured against her lips as he hovered over her, gazing at her with lust and adoration.
"And my answer remains unchanged," she replied, looking at him with the same emotions.
"You asked for it," he muttered, capturing her lips once more. He made sure to 'punish' her thoroughly throughout the night.
The Next Morning:
Lucy's eyes were shot wide open when she smelled something burning. She tried to get out of bed but fell to the ground because her legs felt like jelly. Lucy ignored the screams in her legs and stood up, grabbing her robe and rushing to the kitchen. She was greeted to the most adorable sight in the world.
Laxus, walking around shirtless, muttered a string of curses as he tried to scrape off whatever he burned from her frying pan. He felt someone's eyes on him and he turned to see Lucy, adorable disheveled, looking at him with an amused smile. "Surprise," he said meekly, rubbing the back of his neck. "I tried to make breakfast, but as you can see I failed."
Lucy could see a light dusting of color on Laxus's cheeks, rising on the back of his neck to the tips of his ears. She walked up to him and gave him a chaste kiss on the cheek. "At least you tried. It could have been worse. You could have burned down my kitchen," she reassured him.
Despite Lucy's words of encouragement, Laxus's embarrassment did not decrease. "I wanted to do something nice for you since you agreed to my selfish demands last night," he mumbled, feeling his cheeks grow warmer. "Plus, you're my girlfriend. You deserve to be spoiled. That's if you want to be," he added quickly, wincing at how awkward he sounded.
"You do realize we did things out of order right," she said amusedly. She wrapped an arm around his waist, snuggling into his side. "Of course I'll be your girlfriend," she responded with a smile. "Let's eat breakfast and head to the guild."
After eating and getting dressed, they head towards the guild together, side by side, lacing their fingers together. After a few minutes of peace, Laxus decided to come clean about something he did that morning.
"I may or may not have given your editor your fanfictions about Gray," admitted Laxus, looking away from Lucy, suddenly finding the sky to be very interesting. "I wanted to drive the heat away from me so that no one would bother us when we go on dates."
That's kind of mean to Gray, but sweet for her at the same time, she thought, looking at Laxus fondly. As they got closer to the guild, she suddenly stopped walking when she realized what Laxus just said.
"What's wrong," asked Laxus worriedly when Lucy stopped walking. Was she angry at him for giving her writing to her editor without her permission?
"You said fanfictions, as in more than one correct," she asked for confirmation.
Laxus shrugged his shoulders. "Yeah, why?"
Lucy was about to respond when they heard a high-pitched scream come from the guild. As they ran closer, they noticed water spilling from the sides of the building.
"GRAY-SAMA HOW COULD YOU," wailed Juvia from inside the guild, causing the blonde couple to wince at the sheer volume.
"Juvia, what are you talking about? Stop flooding the guild," screamed Gray as he got caught in a wave.
"THE PEOPLE JUVIA THOUGHT WERE LOVE RIVALS WERE NOT RIVALS AT ALL. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN WORRIED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF BOYS LOVE. NATSU-SAMA, LOKE-SAMA AND LYON-SAMA ARE MY BIGGEST RIVALS ," she cried harder, causing more water to spill out of the guild.
"Let's get out of here," said Laxus as he whisked his girlfriend in a direction opposite of the guild. "No need to get in the crossfire."
