There is a lot of speculation at Domino High on the heart of one Seto Kaiba.
Many think it's made of stone, unable to hold heat or passion, emotionally unreachable. A compassionate few see it as being made of ice, cold, uninviting but fragile- waiting for the blow to crack the icy façade and allow the heat of passion burn.
Jounouchi thinks differently. To him, Kaibas' heart is made of diamond, fresh and unpolished from the walls of heartache and pain- never having known the soft caress of a craftsman's hands.
A diamond may be almost unbreakable, conditioned against the hardships of life and everyday challenges- but it's not unreachable. It can be cracked with the force of another, as strong and cold, shattering the surface, or it can be smoothed and polished, caressing rough edges, to create a perfect shine. Jounouchi works at it slowly, aiming for the occasional gleam of light that plays off the one inch of impeccable smoothness. He avoids the cracks, where irreparable hurts and mistakes were made in its growth, and instead, tempers the surface with soft words, that first kiss- dispelling the dirt from its past with reassurances, making every angle, every façade sparkle with trust, happiness and love.
With the diamond polished, clear and reflective, one can clearly see the flaws- a hurt there, a crack there- but still it's beautiful. It shines, cold and hard, but always with that sparkle in the center, waiting to be lit into flames.
Diamonds may be sought for their status, their beauty. But Jounouchi knows the true value of being gifted with such a precious gem.
