Cristina took a look at her watch and saw that it was time to wake Meredith up. She gently put her hand on Meredith's shoulder and gently shook it.
"Mer, time to wake up and get ready for prom." Cristina said softly.
Meredith groaned in her sleep and scrunched her closed eyes. "Tired." She moaned.
"If you want to stay here and sleep, you can do that. I can see if I can get out of going to prom so I can stay with you." Cristina could see that Meredith was extremely exhausted and not wanting to wake up. She didn't want her to overwork herself.
"Noooo. Wanna go to prom. Tired though." Meredith muttered. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Cristina next to her. "Hi." She whispered. Her tired eyes glanced over the room and saw that Derek was missing. "Where's Derek?"
"He got called into an emergency surgery. Shadow Shepherd is out sick so Derek had to go do it."
Meredith moaned. "But I want Derek! I need him! He's supposed to come with me!" She whined. "I'm sleepy!" Meredith started crying as she was overly exhausted. Christina started to doubt if this was a good idea to let Meredith go to prom.
"Shhh, you're okay Mer. Honestly though Mer, prom's going to be so boring. You won't miss much if you want to stay here and sleep."
"Don't wanna miss out." Meredith whined. "Already missing out on so much."
Meredith is starting to get another headache but doesn't say anything as she wants to go to prom. She knows that if Cristina knew about her headache she would make her stay in bed.
"Okay, we'll go. Do you want to get dressed in this dress I brought you?" Cristina points to the long black dress that is hanging on the bathroom door.
Meredith nods tiredly. "Can you help me please?"
"Of course I can." Cristina gets off of the bed and grabs the dress. She pulls the covers off of Meredith who instantly starts shivering.
"C-cold." Meredith says with her teeth chattering.
"After we get you changed we'll put your blankets back over you." Cristina helps Meredith sit up and helps her out of her hospital gown. Cristina doesn't know how Meredith has lost even more weight.
Meredith starting shivering even more with her gown off. "C-Cris c-cold."
"I know Mer." Cristina quickly unzips the dress and helps Meredith put her legs into it. She pulls the dress up and quickly zips it. Cristina sees Meredith still shivering and tries to think of what to do to help her. "Meredith, do you want to wear something over this too? Do you want your hoodie?"
Meredith nods. "And blankets." She is freezing so much. She feels like she's sitting in ice, she's that cold.
Cristina quickly helps Meredith into the hoodie and Meredith pulls her hands into the sleeves for some extra warmth.
"Okay Mer, I'm going to help you stand up and I'm going to help you transfer into this wheelchair." Cristina has moved the wheelchair right next to Meredith's bed.
Cristina helps Meredith stand but Meredith can barely stand even with Cristina's help. She is extremely wobbly and feels like she will fall any second. Meredith whimpers and tightly holds onto Cristina's hands. "Cris…"
"I know. I've got you. I won't let you fall." Cristina lowers her into the chair and immediately covers her with blankets. Meredith has a few blankets over her lap and wrapped around her shoulders. There are so many blankets you can't even tell that she's wearing a nice dress.
"Ready to go party Mer?" Cristina asks, smiling at Meredith.
"Wanna see Derek first." Meredith whines, still shivering.
"Mer, it's freezing in the OR. You're already extremely cold. I don't know if that's a good idea. I don't want you to get an infection."
Meredith shakes her head. "Need to see him first." Meredith's headache is slowly getting worse. She's trying to hide how much it's hurting her.
Cristina sighs and gives in. "Okay, we'll go sit in the gallery for five minutes so you can see Derek."
Cristina pushes Meredith in the wheelchair up to the gallery without noticing Meredith constantly rubbing her forehead. Cristina pushes Meredith up to the window and Meredith smiles when she sees Derek.
"Der-" she says weakly when she sees him.
Unknown to her, the speaker is on and he is able to hear her voice and this brings a smile to his face underneath his mask. The smile fades though when he sees how weak Meredith looks. He notices that she doesn't look very well.
Meredith continues rubbing her forehead in pain without Cristina noticing as she hides it from her. Her headache keeps worsening.
Derek constantly keeps looking up to Meredith in the gallery as he is worried about her. He sees how pale she looks and how she keeps rubbing her head like it hurts her.
Meredith's hands begin to shake and she hides them under her blankets. "Derek." She whispered, wanting to be in his arms.
My head hurts so bad. I can't say anything otherwise Cristina will make me go back to bed.
"Mer, you okay?" Cristina asked her softly.
Meredith nodded and then winced when she moved her head.
"Mer? You sure?"
"Yeah, we can go to the prom now." Meredith whispered. She gave a tiny smile to Derek when she saw him looking up at her.
She closed her eyes as Cristina pushed her wheelchair down the hallway.
"You excited for this Mer?"
"Yeah." Meredith said with a yawn. She's so exhausted and her head is hurting her so badly. It seems with each passing minute her head hurts more and more. She's determined to not say a word and ruin the night. She just keeps telling herself that she'll be fine even though she's in so much pain right now.
They get to the big room where the prom is being held. Music is blasting from the speakers and everyone is dressed up.
Cristina spies their friends sitting at a table and pushes Meredith towards it.
"Meredith! We've missed you! How are you?" Izzie asks loudly.
"I'm fine." Meredith forces a smile. Her headache is all she can think about. As much as she wants to have fun with her friends, she is not feeling well at all.
The rest of the group continues talking while Meredith sits there silently. She looks around the room and sees everyone having a good time. Meredith is feeling so tired, all she wants to do is sleep but she forces herself to stay awake so she can have a normal activity for once and not be stuck in a hospital bed.
Meredith massages her forehead in an attempt to relieve her headache.
"Want some water Mer?" Cristina asks but Meredith shakes her head no. "Are you okay Mer?" Cristina asks worriedly. She noticed Meredith rubbing her head again.
All of a sudden her headache leaves her in an extraordinary amount of pain.
Meredith starts sobbing in pain. Her headache is now a 15 on a pain scale of 1-10. And she is feeling incredibly nauseas.
"Mer! What's wrong???" Cristina asks loudly.
Meredith doesn't reply and just continues to sob in pain.
"Meredith! What's going on?" Cristina asks.
Izzie, Alex, and George immediately jump into action trying to help their friend.
"What can we do to help!" Izzie yells.
"M-m-my h-he-add!!! M-ak-e i-t st-op!" Meredith sobs. Her speech sounds very off.
"I'm paging Derek! She's not okay!" Cristina says loudly. She gets her pager and pages Derek 911.
Meredith all of a sudden throws up all over herself. Meredith moans in pain.
Derek gets there five minutes later and by this time Meredith's pain has increased more. She clutches her head in her hands, sobbing. She doesn't even seem to notice Derek is there.
"Meredith!" Derek yells worriedly. He takes a penlight out of his pocket and shines it into Meredith's eyes.
"What happened?!" Derek asks worriedly, looking at Meredith now staring straight ahead.
"I don't know! She just started sobbing all of a sudden! I noticed her rubbing her forehead right before that. And then she started clutching her head. And her speech is off! She's slurring her words! And she threw up as you can see!" Cristina panics.
Meredith continues sobbing and clutching her head. "Ma-ak-e i-t st-o-op! Ahhhhhh!" She screams.
