Chapter Five: Blitz the Protector

Five years later…

Blitz was allowing his adopted little sister Bonnie to ride on his back while carrying a grass weaved basket in his claws. Both the Charmeleon and the Pichu had grown a good bit during the last few years, both a bit taller. He had just collected a few berries and a few other edibles while watching out for his sibling. They walked through the trees while keeping on the lookout for more berries for the clan. Blitz glanced back to the little Pichu perched on his back and asked, "What do you think, Bonnie? A few more berries and then we head back?"

"Yeah." Bonnie laughed with a big smile. Blitz smiled too and continued to walk through the berry bushes. They picked the berries that were ripe enough for picking. Blitz smirked when he caught his adoptive sister eating one of the berries, but he didn't worry since they were the smaller ones.

When they had collected enough of the berries, Blitz then said, "All right, we got enough. Let's go home."

"Home." Bonnie said with a big grin. Blitz just shook his head before starting to walk back to where the clan was living. Their trip back was practically uneventful, even though Blitz took as much time as he could to keep his adopted sister entertained. When they came upon the ridge that overlooked the ocean, Blitz pointed to the mainland and said, "Look over there, Bonnie. The mainland's getting bigger."

"No it isn't." Bonnie said with a chuckle. Blitz laughed as well before saying, "Yeah, you're too smart for that. Uncle Brock got me with that one when I was around your age."

They both laughed to this before carrying on to where the Clan was. They soon reached the tree grove and saw that everyone was working on getting ready for the evening feast. They saw their mother talking with another Pikachu and headed over to her. They heard Cynthia say, "Just make sure they're not out in the open. We don't want to draw any attention from anything."

"You got it, Cynthia." The Pikachu nodded before walking off with a few others. Cynthia turned to see Blitz and Bonnie walking up to her. She smiled as she asked, "How was your berry search?"

"It was fine, Mom." Blitz said and showed Cynthia the contents in the basket. There was an assortment of different kinds of berries in the basket. Cynthia looked to them and said, "Well done, you two. Just go and put them with the others."

"Okay, Mom." Blitz said and Bonnie slid off of her adopted brother's back. Bonnie walked with Blitz to the where the other baskets were. He set the basket down next to the others before Sam joined them and said, "It's going to be a little while before we dig in." With a nod he said, "Why don't you go and play with the other Pichus and Pikachus."

"Okay, Grandpa." Blitz and Bonnie said before walking off to where the other young ones were playing.

Most of the younger Mouse Pokémon were chasing each other or just sitting around. Bonnie ran to join some of the Pichus playing a game while Blitz watched over them. He watched as Bonnie chased after a few of the others and smiled from their game. As he continued watching, a felt a presence behind him and he looked to see Cynthia walking over. She had a slight smile as she asked, "Not joining in on the fun?"

"Eh, I just don't think that I would play their games as well as them." Blitz shrugged. Cynthia then said, "Blitz, just because you're a little different doesn't mean that you can't enjoy doing things our way."

"I know." The Charmeleon nodded. Looking to the group he said, "I just wish that there were more Pokémon my size and all that."

"I understand that." The Pikachu said and took one of Blitz's paws into her hands. She patted it and said, "But all I can tell you at the moment is that you'll just have to be happy with what you have."

"I will." Blitz sighed and watched over the small group of Mouse Pokémon again. But the sound of a screech caused everyone's heads to look up. Their eyes widened in fright at what they were seeing. A large Aerodactyl came flying over the area and it sent some of the mouse Pokémon fleeing for their lives. Sam looked about and shouted, "I want all Raichus and older Pikachus to defend the younger ones and the Pichus."

"Yes, sir!" A good deal of Mouse Pokémon said and rushed to get the others to safety. Cynthia guided both Blitz and Bonnie away from the scene just as the Aerodactyl started swooping down and trying to catch one of them. It came at the three, and Blitz grabbed his mother and sister, "Duck!"

They ducked down and the Fossil Pokémon's talons passed right over them. Cynthia looked up and said, "Go! Go!"

All three of them got up and started running once again. But as they were running, they accidentally bumped into another group of Pikachus and Pichus. Another shriek made them all look up again. The Aerodactyl was coming right at them. Blitz stood up and fired a Flamethrower at it. The Fossil Pokémon dodged the attack before using Iron Head against the Flame Pokémon. Blitz groaned in pain as the blow sent him flying across the clearing. When he landed, Cynthia and Bonnie called out to him, "Blitz!"

"Ugh!" Blitz said as he sat up and clutched his head. The Aerodactyl landed in front of him and shrieked, "Aero!"

"Back off, Bird Brain!" Blitz growled and lashed out with Slash. The Aerodactyl backed away from the blow before looking at the Charmeleon with another growl. It reared its head back and its mouth glowed as it prepared a Hyper Beam attack. Blitz quickly jumped out of the way when the Aerodactyl fired the attack. Blitz rolled onto his feet and looked to the flying Pokémon. The Hyper Beam cut through the ground and a few trees when it turned its head to follow after Blitz. Blitz was able to get to where he could leap at the Aerodactyl and used Fire Fang to bite it on the shoulder. The Aerodactyl once again roared in pain.

It thrashed about to try and remove Blitz from its shoulder. After another good thrashing of its body, it was able to knock the Charmeleon off of him. Blitz once again tumbled away before looking up at his opponent. The Aerodactyl took a step towards him when a Thunder Shock attack struck it in the back. The Flying-Rock Pokémon cried out in agony from it and Blitz looked to see Bonnie letting loose the attack. The Aerodactyl turned to the little Pichu with a growl before taking flight.

Bonnie screamed when it came at her and tried to run. But she didn't get away fast enough as the Aerodactyl caught her in its back feet. Everyone cried out, "Bonnie!"

Without thinking about, Blitz started running after the monster that had his sister in his clutches. He ignored the shouting from his mother and the others as he continued chasing after them.

Blitz followed the Aerodactyl and his sister all the way to one of the mountains on the island. He could hear her screams as he climbed up and could see the overhang where the Fossil Pokémon had landed. He carefully made his way across the narrow path and looked around the corner when he made it to the other side. He gasped when he saw that the Aerodactyl had his sister cornered at the rock wall. With a leap he roared, "Char!"

"Blitz?" Bonnie asked as she and the Fossil Pokémon turned to him. Once again, the Charmeleon landed on the Aerodactyl's back and bit it with Fire Fang. The attacking Pokémon once again started thrashing about to get Blitz off of him. But the Flame Pokémon didn't stay latched on for long as he jumped off of the Aerodactyl's back. When he turned around, he was knocked back by the bigger Pokémon's tail. He fell on his back and grunted when the Aerodactyl's foot slammed down on him. It opened his beak and was about to take a bite out of the Charmeleon when both Blitz and Bonnie fired a Flamethrower and a Thunder Shock attack respectively. The attacks hit both the Aerodactyl's face and back, causing it to shriek in agonizing pain. When the attacks stopped, the Aerodactyl lashed its tail at Bonnie. She quickly jumped out of the way and had to keep moving when it tried again. The little Pichu found herself standing next to the cliff and the Aerodactyl gave a dark smile. Picking the Charmeleon in his claws, the Aerodactyl threw him at the little Pichu. They grunted when he collided into her, but she started screaming when she fell over the edge. Blitz turned to see her falling and shouted, "Bonnie!"

Once again without thinking, Blitz jumped over the edge head first to get to his sister. He was able to catch up to her during the fall and grabbed onto her, "Gotcha!"

He held her close to him as they continued to fall. They both closed their eyes as they waited for the end. But before they could even get close enough to the ground, Blitz's entire body started to glow again for the first time since he first evolved. He became much taller, his tail, arms and legs grew longer, his horn divided into two and a pair of wings sprouted from his back. Blitz's eyes snapped open and he roared, "Charizard!"

Bonnie, in one of Blitz's newly evolved arms, opened her eyes as well and stared in amazement to her adopted brother's evolution. Even though he didn't know much about his new form at the moment, Blitz opened up his wings and pulled up. He was able to avoid hitting the ground and turned to head back up the mountain. Blitz completely surprised the Aerodactyl when he appeared back in front of it. The Fossil Pokémon fell on its back, scooted away from Blitz and the newly evolved Charizard landed back on the cliff. He set Bonnie down and she ran over a spot where she could hide. When he was sure that Bonnie was safe, Blitz turned his attention to the Aerodactyl and glared at it. The two large Pokémon didn't move for a moment or two. The fossil Pokémon glared back and the two roared at each other, "Char/Aero!"

Bonnie grew worried as the two charged at each other and clashed. The two grabbed a fist from the other and fought to topple the other. The Aerodactyl gave a smirk before driving its knee into a confused Blitz's gut and the Charizard hunched over. Blitz didn't stay down long as he glanced up to the Fossil Pokémon and was able to bring his head back up and bash it against the Aerodactyl's chin. The Fossil Pokémon stumbled backwards and the Charizard made a leap at it. Blitz tackled the Aerodactyl off its feet and bit its shoulder with another Fire Fang. The Aerodactyl screeched in pain and Blitz began to push it back. When it had had enough, the Aerodactyl retaliated with Thunder Fang in Blitz's shoulder. The Charizard roared in pain as electricity ran through his body and he let go of the Fossil Pokémon and his opponent shoved him away. Jumping up into the air, the Aerodactyl used Wing Attack and the blows sent Blitz staggering back. It once again used Hyper Beam while Blitz countered with a Flamethrower. But the Aerodactyl's attack one out as it caused an explosion and sent the Charizard falling over the edge. Bonnie became scared and called out, "Blitz, no!"

As he was falling once again, the Flame Pokémon's eyes were closed as the explosion had caused him to black out. But even though he was falling, he could still hear his sister calling out to him, "Blitz! Blitz! BLITZ!"

The Charizard's eyes snapped open and Blitz quickly turned himself before opening his wings once again. He snarled as he turned to see the Aerodactyl leaping off the ledge and coming right at him. Blitz dove out of the way and the Aerodactyl sped right past him. It came at him and used Wing Attack again, but Blitz was quick to counter with Dragon Claw. His glowing claws clashed against the wings. Maneuvering around, Blitz came in with an Air Slash. The attack cut into the Aerodactyl's back and caused it to screech in pain, "Aero!"

Blitz decided to finish it by flying up behind it and grabbing the Aerodactyl in a full nelson. With a flap of his wings, Blitz shot up high into the air with the Fossil Pokémon in tow. Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes, the Charizard made a backflip U-turn and started to drop towards the ground. They were heading right for the ocean and the Aerodactyl began to grow worried as it squirmed in his grasp, but Blitz held on tight. Moving his head closer to his captive's, Blitz said, "I want you to leave and never come back!"

When they were but a few good feet from the water, Blitz used Seismic Toss and released the Aerodactyl while pulling up. The Fossil Pokémon splashed down into the water while the Flame Pokémon flapped back up to the cliff. He landed with a crash and looked back to where the Aerodactyl hit the water. A moment later, said Aerodactyl burst from the water and looked up to the cliff before giving a loud screech. Blitz followed with a loud roar that dwarfed the Aerodactyl's challenge. The Fossil Pokémon saw the fierce look in the Charizard's eye as he continued to roar. Seeing no further reason to try and risk itself, the Aerodactyl turned tail and headed for the mainland. When he was sure that it was gone, Blitz stopped roaring before snorting in satisfaction.

Taking a deep breath, Blitz turned to see Bonnie still hiding where she had earlier. Blitz then asked her, "Bonnie? Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." Bonnie said and carefully made her way over to literally bigger brother. Looking up to his head she asked him, "But are you okay? I mean, not only did you fight, but you-"

"Evolved again, yeah." Blitz nodded, finding a little bizarre, but also didn't mind it. Kneeling down he asked with a grin, "Want to go home?"

Bonnie smiled too and said, "Yes, please."

Blitz laughed a little before picking his sister up and holding her close. Opening his wings up again, they took off and headed for home.

The entire Mouse Pokémon Clan were waiting anxiously to see if Blitz and/or Bonnie would come home. Standing in the middle of the crowd was Sam, Cynthia and Brock and all three had worried looks on their faces. They looked about the skies, trees and grounds to see for any sign of them, but were growing more and more worried by the minute. The sound of flapping wings made everyone very worried as they thought it was the Aerodactyl coming back again. A shape suddenly flew overhead and everyone grew scared when the shadow passed over them. The shape landed on the other side of the clearing and everyone immediately tensed up to attack. The figure stepped into the light and was revealed to be holding Bonnie in their arms. Cynthia took a closer look at the larger figure and had a feeling when she asked, "Blitz?"

"Hi, Mom?" The Charizard waved to them. The Clan slightly relaxed and the three walked over to them. They looked up to the towering Pokémon and Brock asked, "So what happened, Blitz? This one heck of a growth spurt."

"Eh, fought the monster and I evolved as we were falling." Blitz explained while setting Bonnie down. Sam raised his arms and comically flapped them as he questioned, "Oh, is that all?"

"Well, he did scare the Aerodactyl away." Bonnie added. Cynthia said, "Well, as long as you two are safe."

"And it seems like you'll be able to protect the Clan, Blitz." Brock said. The Charizard thought about it for a moment before Sam said, "Well, I think that we should take it easy for now."

"He's right." Cynthia agreed. She looked over her adopted son and said, "First, we need to see if you need some immediate attention."

"Then we'll have to figure out about where you're going to stay." Sam added as the thought made him wonder. Blitz then shrugged, "Maybe I can stay where the Aerodactyl was roosting. I'll be able to get there and here with these."

He flexed his new wings for emphasis. But neither Cynthia nor Bonnie seemed to like that idea as the latter said, "But it so far away. What will we do while you're gone, big brother?"

"I'll still be around. And I can swing by anytime." Blitz said, trying to calm her down. But Bonnie just came closer and hugged his leg. Blitz couldn't stand to see his little sister sad like this. Smiling he offered, "How about this…" Bonnie looked up to him and he said, "I stay down here during the day and go to the spot after sun down."

"I guess that would be okay." Bonnie sniffled and wiped her eyes. Cynthia started climbing up and looking over Blitz to see if he was really hurting anywhere. She saw a few bruises, bites and scratches here and there, but knew that they'd heal in time. She moved to where he could see her and asked, "Are you sure that you want to do this, Blitz?"

"It's not like I'll be too far." Blitz smiled as he reassured. But Sam caught their attention when he said, "Well, before you go and move out, how about we feast on what we got from today."

Just about everyone in the Clan cheered to this. Even Blitz was on board when he said, "I think that'll be good."

Everyone started moving to where the gathered feast was and enjoyed an evening of merriment.
