Chapter Six: The End of Their World
Ten years later…
A good amount of time had passed on the island. All was quiet in the jungles closest to the mountain by the sea. A few small bird Pokémon broke the silence by calling out their Pokémon names. But the peace was broken by screams that echoed through the trees. A group of yellow shapes quickly dashed through the trees to get away from something chasing after them. Three young female Pikachus continued to scream and run as something large flew overhead with a roar. They ran into a large fallen log and the creature landed behind them. They quickly ducked into the log when the thing tried to make a grab for them. The three Pikachus continued to run out of the log and ran faster when they heard the predator Pokémon roar again. The larger Pokémon flapped its wings before taking off after the three again. One of the Pikachus looks ahead before shouting, "Get to the river!"
When they came to the river they saw that a there were a few stepping stones for them to jump across. A Pikachu pushed the others forward and they quickly made their way to the other side. The large creature behind them flew over the river and continued to chase them on the other side. The three Pikachus ran through the jungle again before coming across a fallen log that laid over a small gap. But as they ran across, a large orange creature dropped down onto the log and caused it to fall a little. The three Pikachus were able to make it to the other side and jumped to the vines to swing away. The predator narrowed its eyes before taking flight once again. Two of the Pikachus dropped down and the last one was about to jump down as well, but she screamed as she was grabbed from the air by the creature's orange hands. The other two mouse Pokémon looked back when they landed to see the large orange Pokémon land beside an overturned log. The two looked in fear for their friend while the large orange Pokémon held their friend in both hands. The dragon like Pokémon growled and looked at the little Pikachu with hungry eyes. It opened his jaws wide as if to eat the little Mouse Pokémon, but she quickly turned to her friends and shouted, "Get him, girls!"
The Charizard looked in shock as the other two Pikachu jumped up onto the log before jumping onto him. They all started laughing as a smile adorned Blitz's face and he said, "Oh, no! Attacking Pikachu!" Looking down to their leader in his hands he pleaded, "Bonnie, please, no!"
Bonnie wiggled her way out of his grasp and joined her friends as they were jumping on his shoulders. It didn't hurt Blitz since he was so much bigger than the girls but continued to play along. He started to fall down as he shouted, "Oh, I can't take it anymore! There are just too many of you little furry critters!" While he fell onto his back, the girls had to maneuver to where they were jumping onto his belly and he shouted, "Come on, little Mouse Pokémon! Go and pick on someone your own size!"
He continued to either call for help or to tell the girls to stop as they continued to jump on his belly. Over a few feet away, Cynthia moved a few ferns out of the way and watched in amusement. She chuckled as she came closer to them. Over at the four, Blitz groaned as he started to act like he was dying. Then he let out one final gasp of breath before letting his head fall limp against the log. Bonnie, knowing that her brother was playing, crawled up her brother's belly and said, "Blitz, you're not dead."
"No!" Blitz said and surprised the girls, making them scream. They all laughed while the girls continued to jump up and down. Cynthia jumped onto the log and said, "All right, everyone, break it up." Then the Raichu reminded while looking at the flowers held by her tail, "Remember the courtship this evening?" She teased when she said, "You gonna miss seeing all that smooching."
The three Pikachus groaned at the thought and Bonnie sook her head, "Oh, Mom."
"That's okay, Cynthia." Blitz said to his adopted mother. She came down to them as Blitz looked to the girls and said, "We can just start smooching right here."
The three Pikachu all screamed and jumped back when Blitz started making kissing noises at them. They all jumped off of the Charizard and laughed as they ran off. Cynthia looked to her adopted son, sat on his shoulder, and playfully said, "It's such a shame that you don't like kids."
Blitz snorted before playfully saying, "They're just nasty little critters."
"Ha, ha." Cynthia laughed and shook her head. Then she asked him, "How about you go and find your uncle Brock." The Raichu got up and added, "He's probably off somewhere rehearsing his pickup lines." She quickly commented, "Let's just hope that he's found some new material."
"Okay, Mom." Blitz said and she jumped off his shoulder. He watched her go in one direction before getting up onto his own two feet. He began to think about her his adopted uncle might be. Deciding to get a birds eye view, the Charizard opened up his wings before flapping up into the sky. He flew over the island before spotting a yellow shape sitting on a rock on the beach that was facing to the mainland. Blitz landed on the ground before the beach and looked around a tree. He could hear Brock's voice say, "Hey, sweetie, if you'll be my bride, I'll do anything for ya."
Blitz saw Brock standing on a rock with his back to him. Liking the sound of what he just said, Brock nodded, "Oh, yeah. That is good. That is so good."
Blitz snorted and shook his head at his adopted uncle's planned attempts to woo a female of the Mouse Pokémon. Blitz walked up to the rock as Brock then tried, "Girls, I am quite well known as the 'professor of love'," He chuckled when he said, "and school's now in session."
He slapped his leg when he thought of how good and funny that sounded to him. He wiped his eye and said, "Yep, I still got it."
"I sure do hope that it's not contagious." Blitz playfully commented when he came up beside the rock. Brock looked to his adopted nephew and said, "You sir, happen to be in the presence of a raging epidemic of romance."
Blitz chuckled before extending a wing, "Come on, Thunder Bolt." Brock climbed on to the Charizard's shoulder as he said, "We gotta get going. You don't wanna miss Grandpa Sam's annual pep talk."
Brock moved up to Blitz's head and sat down as the Charizard opened his wings again. Brock gave an aggravated sigh and commented, "Oh, goodie. I sure can't wait to hear the advice of courting from an old mouse."
"Hey-hey-hey." Blitz playfully shook his head as he disagreed. He took off and said, "I've heard that back in his day, that old mouse was quite a zapping swinger."
"You talkin' about Sam?" Brock asked as he didn't believe it. They flew towards the other side of the island where a large tree sat on a cliff. Blitz looked up to his uncle and said, "Yeah, to hear him tell it, he puts the 'Pika' in 'Pikachu'."
They both started laughing at this.
\_|_/
It was nearing sunset when all the bachelors of the Mouse Pokémon Clan started to get ready for the girls. The boys all met together in the branches of the forest just a few yards from the tree on the cliff. Sam sat in the middle of them and said, "Okay, fellas, gather 'round." He placed a paw on his chest and said with pride, "Listen and learn from the master."
Over at the tree, Cynthia sat with the girls on the roots to give them their instructions. Cynthia looked to them and said, "Now, ladies, don't just go jumping into the tree after the first boy with a cute backflip." She chuckled when she remembered her first time at the courtship and said, "It's a lot more fun if you just keep them guessing."
"And if a cute back flip doesn't work on them, guess." Sam told them about the move. They all started to laugh with Sam about it. Then he looked about and said, "And while trying to keep it to a minimum, it doesn't hurt to show off a little of your electric moves."
"You're never going to forget this day." Cynthia said as she and Bonnie handed the girls the flowers. With a nod she said, "So make it one to remember."
"But if you go and mess it up, don't worry." Sam reassured with a wave of his paw. He chuckled when he added, "They'll never remember it."
"Come on, you guys!" Blitz shouted as he landed on the ground. He looked up as those in the trees looked down. The Charizard started walking by with Brock on his head, "We don't wanna let the girls down, do we?!"
"Go on, now!" Sam ushered the boys with a gentle push of his tail. They all started to jump down while cheering as Sam encouraged, "Chest out! Chin up!"
Blitz was able to catch them all with his wings or arms and one landed on his tail. With a flick of his appendage, he sent the Pikachu up to his back. The Charizard continued moving forward to the tree. Sam then told his adopted grandson, "Go and make 'em look good, my boy."
"Come on, Grandpa Sam." Blitz said and looked up to the branch. The Charizard smiled as he said, "With my charm and your brains?" He shook his head and was confident when he said, "There's no problems."
Sam laughed as he stood up in the trees. When he stepped out of the shadows of the trees, Blitz reared his head back before letting out a small Flamethrower and it caught the girls' attention. The girls looked to the incoming Charizard while Cynthia and Bonnie quickly moved out of the way. Blitz laughed before letting loose a roar and slowed down to allow all the boys and girls get a glimpse of each other. Blitz had a grin when he said, "Hey there, girls, look what just pulled up."
"Hey, ladies!" One of the boys shouted. The girl Mouse Pokémon started giggling when Blitz said, "Your buffet table of love."
"Right here! Right here!" One of the Pikachus shouted. Another waved and shouted, "Hey there, beautiful!"
Brock stood up on the Charizard's head and tried one of his lines, "Hey, free samples! Get me while I'm hot!"
But he slipped and tumbled down to Blitz's tail. But luckily, he stopped before reaching the flame with a, "Whoa!"
Blitz chuckled before flicking his tail again and Brock screamed as he flew back onto the Charizard's head. He landed between the horns before standing back up and raised his arms, "Ta-da!"
He gave a nervous smile as the girls started to laugh again. As they were joining Sam in the trees, Bonnie giggled and said, "Oh, Brock."
Sam, Cynthia and Bonnie all sat on a root and watched the courtship take place. The Pikachus and Raichus jumped off of Blitz's back with cheers. Brock quickly followed after them while Blitz walked back over to the forest and laid his back against a tree trunk to watch the events with the rest of his family and the others of the Clan. All the eligible males climbed to the top of a tree before shouting their Pokémon names, "Pikachu/Raichu!"
"Pikachu/Raichu!" All the girls called out in response. Even Sam, Cynthia and Brock all joined in, "Pikachu/Raichu!"
"Charizard!" Blitz roared with a smile. But his roar ended up shaking the trees and as the branches swayed, Brock lost his grip and fell into a collection of branches below him. Both Blitz and Bonnie winched from the fall but the latter giggled as they watched Brock kick his back feet as he was stuck. The other boys jumped from their spots and did back flips while an electrical aura surrounded them. Those watching from the trees were impressed by how the male Pikachu and Raichu were giving off the display. All the boys grabbed onto a vine and swung out and prepared themselves. Brock continued to struggle in the foliage. Deciding to give his uncle a hand, Blitz got up, ran over to the branch and grabbed it with his hand while telling Brock, "Come on. You're missing all the action here, Brock."
"Hey, haven't you heard?" Brock questioned as he righted himself on the branch. He flexed his arms and tail and said, "I am the action!"
With a quick flick of the wrist, Blitz sent a laughing Brock flying through the air and to the tree. The Pikachu was able to grab onto a vine but didn't notice it wrap around his ankle. He swung over the girls as he and the other males waited. The girls looked to each other before giggling at Brock's antics. Then they too leapt onto vines and started to climb. Every one of the Pikachus and Raichus looked to the mate of their choosing. Then with a leap of faith, the girls made the first move and jumped, followed by Brock and the other boys. But when Brock tried to jump, his trapped ankle stopped him short. The other Mouse Pokémon landed on another vine before jumping towards their true love. A boy and a girl Pikachu grabbed onto a vine that would intertwine with their chosen. A girl Raichu handed a boy Raichu her rose before the two smiled at each other. One boy Pikachu and a girl Pikachu used Iron Tail before lightly tapping them against each other before the girl pulled the boy close and planted a kiss on his lips. One by one, they were able to find their special Pokémon and climbed to the top of the tree. All except Brock who had just freed his foot from the vine. He looked around to see if there were any single Pokémon ladies left for him, but became disappointed when there weren't any, once again. The Pikachu lowered his head in sadness as he hung there. Everyone else from the forest watched as the new couples climbed to the top of the tree. As he watched them go up, Blitz looked to his uncle in sadness and in understanding. Up at the top of the tree, the couples looked out to the eastern horizon to watch the sunset.
Blitz walked over to where his uncle was still hanging and thought of something to try and cheer him up. When he was next to the Pikachu he said, "Don't you worry, Uncle Brock. You'll always have next year."
"Hey, I'm just lucky to be rid of them." Brock said, trying to mask his pain from what just happened. Then he made himself sound strong by saying, "With the ladies, before you know it, they all wanna move to a bigger tree or burrow."
"Hmm. If you say so." Blitz said and moved to where Brock could lower himself onto his head. Though Brock didn't say it, he was very appreciative of Blitz having his back in this since they were practically in the same boat.
From their spot, Sam, Cynthia and Bonnie were all sad that Brock struck out again with the courtship. Sam shook his head, "Oh. Poor Brock. Our clan still has one bachelor in it."
"No." Cynthia disagreed, knowing that there was more than one single male in their clan. Looking to her adopted as he and Brock came away from the tree. She had a sad look on her face as she said, "We still have two of them."
Sam nodded in agreement to this. Cynthia got up and made her way over as Blitz took his uncle from his head. The Charizard set the Pikachu down before sitting down on his rump. Brock walked back to the forest and passed by his sister while Cynthia came up to him and onto his leg. Gently rubbing his adopted son's belly she said, "Well, it's never really been my brother's best event."
"He's got a tougher hide than mine." Blitz said with a grin. Cynthia hugged her son's belly and said, "Oh, Blitz, if only there was someone on the island for you." Then she thought about it and joked, "Well, you know, someone who looks like you, only much prettier."
Blitz chuckled before embracing his mother and said, "Oh, come on, Mom." He looked around at the Clan and said, "I've got all that I need. What more could I possibly want?"
Suddenly, a new sound came to everyone and Blitz looked up into the sky. All the Mouse Pokémon looked up as well to see a bunch of flaming rocks fall from the sky. They streaked overhead before disappearing on the horizon. Blitz was awed by them and stood up from his spot. Cynthia carefully made her way back to the ground as she watched as well. Bonnie wanted to go over and watch as well, and a gentle push from her grandfather made her go forward. Bonnie bounded towards her brother and climbed up on his back. When she was on his head, she asked with wonder, "What are they?"
"I don't know." Blitz shook his head. Bonnie jumped off her brother's head and climbed up one of the vines to the top of the tree for a better look. She joined the other Pikachus and Raichus at the top to watch the falling rocks. The falling rocks started to come down in multitudes and some hissed as they flew across the sky. Blitz took a few steps towards the edge of the cliff as they continued to rain down. From his spot with the others, an odd feeling came over Brock as he could feel that something was about to happen. Cynthia was joined by her father and they looked up into the sky. They saw a few bird Pokémon fly away and call out their Pokémon in fear. An odd smell came to Sam's nose and he didn't like it. Cynthia looked to her father and asked, "Dad?"
Taking one more sniff, and Sam leaned close to Cynthia and said, "Something's wrong. Very wrong."
Trusting her father's words on this, Cynthia quickly ran over to the tree and stopped behind the Charizard who hadn't moved from his spot. Sam quickly followed after her. Looking to Blitz, Cynthia asked, "Blitz, where is Bonnie?"
"She's up in the…" Blitz started to say when something caught his eye and he looked up, "Tree."
A low rumbling made everyone look up to see the mother of all flaming rocks hurtling down from the sky. They watched as the rock fell past the clouds before falling somewhere in the ocean and a bright light erupted from the impact. Everyone shielded their eyes from the intense light and only looked again when it faded. The impact had created a huge mushroom cloud and everyone was very worried about it. Numerous waves rolled out from the impact. A sudden wind knocked a good number of Mouse Pokémon off their feet. Everyone gasped as they rose to their feet before getting knocked a second time. Cynthia helped her father back onto his feet and shouted, "Come on! Go! Go! Get going! Now!"
She was about to join him and the others when she heard her daughter shouting from above, "Mom!"
"Bonnie!" Cynthia shouted and looked up into the tree. The other Pichus, Pikachus and Raichus in the tree had all ran off and left the young Pikachu alone. Fireballs started to fly from the impact and it made her really scared. Bonnie found that she was stuck in the branches and was really scared as she shouted, "Mom! Mom!"
"Bonnie!" Blitz shouted from below. He looked for his sister and would use one of his Pokémon moves, but couldn't out of fear for hurting her. The Charizard could hear her as she cried again, "Mom!"
"Bonnie, where are you?!" A worried Blitz shouted up into the tree. Cynthia quickly climbed up the Charizard's back before jumping into the tree. She popped up next to Bonnie before grabbing her and heading back down. They landed on Blitz's head and Cynthia shouted, "Run, Blitz! Run, run!"
Blitz quickly turned tail and ran from the tree. The fireballs started to rain down and hit the ocean as a good number of them headed for the island. Everyone, from the many Mouse Pokémon to the Flame Pokémon ran for their lives into the jungles. Screams and booms could be heard all round them and Blitz gasped when he a few flaming rocks hit the ground ahead of him. He moved around the crater and saw his adopted grandfather. Sam was starting to fall behind when Blitz grabbed him into his arm, "Sam, come on!"
Moving his arm to where Sam could hang on to his neck, Blitz looked about for his uncle. They saw Brock running across a fallen log. Blitz and Cynthia shouted to him, "Brock! Jump! Jump, Brock!"
Taking a leap of faith, Brock jumped off the log but fell a little short. But before he could tumble down Blitz's back, Sam caught him with his tail. Cynthia shouted, "Hold on, Brock!"
"Grandpa, pull him up!" Bonnie cried out. Sam pulled Brock closer while Cynthia reached down and grabbed his paws with her own. They pulled him close and he hugged the back of Blitz's neck as the Charizard kept running. Blitz opened his wings, but before he could take off, a flaming rock slammed into the ground and it broke his concentration. The Charizard continued running through the jungle. Another fireball landed behind them and it knocked Blitz off his feet. The Mouse Pokémon held on as Blitz landed on the ground before getting back up and started running again. More and more fireballs continued to rain down as they continued to flee. The family made it to the other side of the island as the chaos continued around them. But when they came to the edge of a cliff, Blitz came skidding to a stop. They all looked down as a few rocks tumbled down to the ocean below. They looked about to find shelter but couldn't see anything. A wall of fire and the flaming rocks caused the large tree to fall over. Clay and his family looked back and gasped to see the wall of fire coming right at them. Seeing it come closer, Blitz decided to take a chance and opened his wings before jumping off the cliff. The Mouse Pokémon hung on tight as they screamed as Blitz tried to fly away. But they didn't get too far when a large rock fell in the water, thus creating a large wave that knocked them out of the sky. They were separated on impact with the sea. Sam, Cynthia, Brock and Bonnie were able to swim to the surface while Blitz sank a little deeper. The four Mouse Pokémon found themselves a piece of drift wood and climbed aboard. They all looked about for Blitz just as the Charizard turned around in the water and started to head back up. He burst from the ocean with a gasping roar. Though the water felt like it hurt him sometimes, Blitz was able to stay afloat by swimming and made sure to keep his tail above the water. He saw that the flame was really small but knew that it would have to be dealt with later. He coughed a bit before shouting, "Cynthia, Sam! Bonnie, Brock! Where are you guys?!"
He went through another coughing fit when he heard Cynthia shout to him, "Blitz, over here!"
"Over here, kid!" He heard Sam shout. Looking in that direction, Blitz saw his family on their driftwood piece. Blitz quickly swam over to their aid and when he reached it, he started pushing the driftwood piece towards the mainland. His family looked to him with a little worry as Blitz continued to gasp in slight pain.
\_|_/
The family finally made it to the mainland and when he felt the sand under his feet, Blitz gathered his family into his arms before continuing. Soon loose stones were kicked as Blitz walked up on the beach. The Charizard breathed heavily from the long swim and getting his family to safety. He set his family down before flopping down on the ground. Cynthia and Bonnie hugged the Flame Pokémon's head as he took deep breaths while Yar was coughing up a storm. Brock stayed with his father as Sam continued to cough. Blitz opened an eye and looked about to the burning pieces of wood. They all looked around at the destruction before slowly turning their gaze to their island. What they saw broke all their hearts; their beloved island was ablaze and they all started to think the worse for everyone else on the island. Tears ran down their faces as they all knew that they were the only survivors from this nightmare. Trying to be the hopeful one, Bonnie walked to the edge of the beach. She bunched up and shouted as she fired a Thunder Shock, "Chu!" When she didn't hear anything, she fired another bolt of lightning, "Chu!"
Blitz shakily rose onto his feet before joining his sister. Throwing his head back, he fired a Flamethrower, "Char!"
They both waited for a moment but still didn't hear or something. Bonnie started to cry for all the friends that they had lost. Cynthia, Sam and Brock all came over and hugged the poor Pikachu. Even Blitz gathered them all up in his arms and hugged them tightly. As she her mother gently stroked her ears, "I feel bad. I feel bad."
"Oh, Bonnie." Cynthia said and held her daughter closer. Bonnie muttered as she cried, "They're all gone. All gone."
Tears rolled down their cheeks as they knew she was right. Cynthia tried to comfort Bonnie by saying, "It's okay. I'm here. I'm here."
Looking about, Blitz knew that there were still dangers lurking about. He looked down to his family, "Come on, everyone. We can't stay here. It isn't safe."
Shakily rising to his feet, Blitz started to walk further inland. But before he completely left the beach, Blitz took one last look to the island. With a sigh, he turned away just as another tear rolled down his cheek. Everyone looked up when they saw a flock of bird Pokémon flying inland. The five were now walking into a much bigger world.
\_|_/
After an hour or so of walking, the family had dried off and traveled far inland. But even though he was dry, Blitz still felt a little woozy from everything. Brock happened to look back and noticed that Blitz's tail flame was still small. Looking to everyone he said, "I think that we need to find somewhere to stop for a while."
"Huh?" Cynthia asked and looked to her brother. Brock pointed behind them and they all looked to Blitz's tail. Sam nodded and said, "Brock's right." Looking to his adopted grandson and said, "Let's find some shelter."
"But I can keep…" Blitz started to say. But Cynthia shook her head, "No, Blitz. You need to rest, my son. We can go again when you're feeling much better."
"How about over there." Bonnie pointed in a direction. They all looked to see a large rock with a pretty big hole in the side. Blitz walked over to the cave and looked in it. He used his tail flame to see if there were any dangerous Pokémon inside. It looked to be clear and the family went inside. When they were sure that they were protected from the wind, the family hopped off of the Charizard's head and shoulders. Sam then said, "Okay, Blitz. Lay down on your back and we'll try to keep you warm."
"Okay." Blitz said before laying down on his back. The two Raichus and Pikachus then climbed up to his belly and laid down. When he was sure that they wouldn't fall off, Blitz wrapped his wings around his family and tried to sleep that night.
But the family was unaware that they were being watched from a distance. The Pokémon chittered to each other before they moved off. As they went in a certain direction, one of the Pokémon said, "Sand."
