Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail or Assassin's Creed Valhalla

AN: The inspiration behind this was Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Great game. I'm using what I learned from the game for the story. Anything that may seem unclear, I researched. This is probably the longest one I have written so far. Let me know if you have any requests and if you like this AU style of a different universe. Sorry for the grammar and spelling mistakes. It's hard to edit your own work. I also need to improve on ending things. Enjoy.

"Now that we are finally in Fiore, how should we proceed," asked Freed, as he looked over the map of Fiore, awaiting orders from his jarl. He was Laxus's military advisor and best friend, taking in his ideas and providing the best and worst scenarios for each plan.

"We should try to find some allies with the local clans and nobles, establish some sort of foothold here until Grandfather and the rest of the clan arrive," replied Jarl Laxus from his seat at the front of the table. He was the temporary leader here until his grandfather, Jarl Makarov, arrived. Laxus went ahead with a small group who are currently settled on the outskirts of Magnolia. It was Laxus's job as next in line to make sure his people had food, clothing, and supplies before winter came.

"Then may I suggest something. We can easily form relations with the local clans here. After all, your family name carries a lot of weight. The kingdom, however, is a different story. A lot of nobles don't take too kindly to strangers. The best scenario I can think of is if you marry one of the noble ladies here." This was the plan Freed came up with. They were still unfamiliar with the political situation, terrain, and customs of this land. Having some of their men in the King's court would be very helpful. It was a method that did not require violence or bloodshed, something he wasn't really fond of, unlike the other members of the clan. In his opinion, not every problem had to be solved with brute strength and fists.

Laxus let out a long sigh. "Do I have to get married?" He was loving the single life and had everything that he needed. He also didn't like the fact that he had to marry for political reasons. "Plus, aren't all the kingdom ladies spoiled squealing pigs?" He heard stories of how whiney they were and never lift a finger in order to get things done. Here in the clan, both men and women are in a partnership. They work together to make sure the household is running smoothly. He was going to be the future leader and if he was going to marry someone, they would have to be his equal to ensure the clan's success.

"Well, you could also kidnap a high-ranking noble lady and hold her ransom. Unless her family agrees to our terms, she will be our hostage." Freed had a feeling Laxus would agree to this method instead, since it was right up his alley. However, it was risky because there was no telling of the consequences and they had to choose the right person to kidnap.

"See Freed, that's what I'm talking about. You should have suggested that in the first place." Laxus started laughing, as if he heard the funniest joke in the world. "Could you imagine me getting married, tied down to one girl, and losing my mind over her." Laxus wiped a tear from the corner of his eye. "Ah, Freed, you crack me up." He stood from his seat and playfully smacked Freed's back. The strength of it almost caused Freed to fall onto the map. "I really needed that."

Freed winced in pain at the force of Laxus's smack. "I wasn't joking. You really need to think about marriage. You're not getting any younger, and the possibility of death in battle is around every corner. You must have an heir to continue the Dreyar name." Freed's tone turned deathly serious. "Last thing you want is someone to challenge your birthright. Someone like Acnologia."

Laxus immediately stopped laughing at the mention of Acnologia's name. Acnologia was someone his father Ivan took in before he was exiled for going against the clan. Acnologia was one of their best warriors, but he was a wormy, violent bastard as well. Laxus loved the thrill of the fight as well, but he believed Acnologia enjoyed spilling blood for the heck of it. There were rumors of him deliberately setting fire to villages and pillaging them for his own gain, but it hadn't been proven yet. He is constantly trying to undermine Laxus's efforts. Kissing his grandfather's arse and the last thing Laxus wanted was for Acnologia to be the leader. He would lead the clan to ruin and set the world on fire.

Laxus let out a long and tired sigh. "Fine. I'll think about it. Until then, I'm going with the second plan. Send some men to the nearest territories to gather information." He added, "As much as I don't like the stealth approach, they need to blend in so people don't realize what we are doing."

Freed gave a nod and bowed. "I shall do so immediately and bring a list of noble ladies who can provide us a hefty ransom."

Magnolia

Not far from the main road was a small neighborhood clinic. A beautiful blonde by the name of Lucy worked as a doctor's assistant, helping to prepare medicines and treatments for patients. 11 years ago her mother was the local healer, and she followed in her footsteps and reopened the clinic, working alongside local minister's son Jellal. Everyone knew Lucy was the light of their village, bringing hope to the people when there was no one else to help with the sick.

However, what most people didn't know was that Lucy was the illegitimate daughter of the local count, Jude Lore. Only Jellal knew of this information. It was actually how her parents met. He was on his way home with a fever when he collapsed in front of her clinic when she was closing up. He fell in love at first sight as she nursed him back to health. However, he could not marry her and had to leave his beloved behind, not knowing she was with child. That child was Lucy.

Even though Jude took her in as a child when her mother passed away, finding out Lucy's existence and giving her an education worthy of a King, Lucy had little interest in the Count position and rarely made appearances at social gatherings. Most people did not know how the Count's eldest daughter looked, so she used that to her advantage whenever she made trips to the village. She was obsessed with books, specifically medicinal books that helped further her knowledge of the human body and how to heal. She was grateful for the books her father would bring from his travels. It amazed her to see how different people used different healing methods.

But knowledge like this is kept hidden from the people. Even Jude had difficulty getting the books and herbs Lucy wanted. The monasteries would keep these books to themselves.

Lucy waved at another customer who left after getting their prescription. Jellal popped his head from the back, carrying a crate just as another person came in.

"Don't the two of you look amazing together." An elder woman came to pick up some salve to rub on her aching limbs. "Jellal, when are popping the question?"

Lucy and Jellal looked at each other and laughed nervously. This wasn't the first time someone thought they were a couple or should be together. But they never looked at each other that way and had more of a sibling bond. Lucy felt much closer to Jellal than her own half siblings, Rufus and Jenny.

Rufus was the next head of the household. Although he was smart and competent enough to do it, he could be a know it all and would use some of Lucy's suggestions as his own. Lucy learned her lesson after the first few times. Now, if Lucy had an idea for the betterment of their territory, she would directly tell her father because at least he would listen to her and not take credit for her work.

Jenny was… nice. Okay, she was extremely vain, naïve, and loved to spend money living a lavish lifestyle. But she had a good heart, and it just so happened that she was considered one of the most beautiful women in Fiore society. Luckily, she got engaged to a man who was equally vain and flirty as her Earl Hibiki Laytis. Although their relationship was strange to Lucy, she could tell that they loved and cared about each other.

Lucy awkwardly laughed as she handed the old woman's prescription, whose name was Ooba Babasaama. "We just don't look at each other that way. He's more like a brother to me and I'm like a sister to him." At this response, Jellal nodded.

Ooba Babasaama sighed at this. "Oh well. Don't say I didn't try. Thank you as usual, Lucy. Be careful getting home. I heard that those rogue bandits that have been tearing havoc over Fiore are making their way over here. If only we had some soldiers or able fighting men. Heck, I'd even take those foreigners that just moved in on the outskirts of the land." She bid them farewell and headed home.

"Is it really that bad," Jellal asked Lucy. He knew her father was trying to get more protection for the territory. Most of the guards here were fresh out of the academy and only had basic combat skills. They had no field experience and in a fight with experienced brutal bandits who wouldn't hesitate to fight dirty, they'd stand no chance.

Lucy nodded her head as they prepared to close for the day. "The Rune Knights have failed to capture them because they never stay in one place for long. Because of that, they are short-handed. Papa tried to ask for some more guards to help protect the territory, but with no luck. They think time is better spent actively looking for them instead of placing people in territories," she spat out.

To say the situation frustrated Lucy would be an understatement. She was furious. People's lives were at stake here. Most people had very little to begin with, relying on farming and trade to make a living. Over the years, that issue improved in their territory because they would sell goods in the capital.

"Our best bet would be talking to the princess. She's hosting a salon tomorrow. I'll attend instead of Jenny since she's planning her wedding. Maybe if I tell her how dire the situation is, she will send knights or think of an alternative plan." Lucy wasn't really fond of attending social events. Only the ones that were necessary. She was never able to get along with most of the noble ladies. They found Lucy 'weird'. It wasn't just her background, it was the fact she was so different from them. She loved learning, business and reading books, while they preferred to talk about their clothing.

"Any idea not thought up by the Rune Knights would be a solution at this point," joked Jellal, causing Lucy to laugh and shake her head in disbelief.

Clan Fairy Tail/ Outskirts of Magnolia

"Are we there yet," whined a salmon-haired man, trudging through the woods with a raven-haired male.

"For the last time, flame brain. No! And stop talking so loud! We're going to get caught," scolded the raven-hair male, glaring at his male companion. "We're supposed to be travelers."

"Don't call me flame brain, ice butt!" He pushed his companion from behind, causing him to stumble.

"Don't push me, you overgrown lizard!" The other male pushed back in retaliation.

The two raised their fists in the air and were about to throw punches at each other when their female companion, with red hair, grabbed their skulls and bashed them together.

"Natsu! Gray! Stop fighting!" The red head placed her hands on her hips and glared at the two on the ground. "To answer your question, Natsu. Yes, we are almost there. And Gray to your point. You are right. We must not act suspicious. Our jarl has asked us to check the surrounding territories and gather information about the locals. You two will not screw this mission. Do you understand?" Her glare grew darker as she warned Natsu and Gray to behave.

"Aye Erza!" Natsu and Gray slumped their arms over their shoulders and gave Erza a salute. They did not want to suffer her wrath or Laxus's.

"Good." Erza nodded her head in approval. "In 5 minutes, we should reach the outskirts of Magnolia. Remember, if anyone asks questions we are traveling merchants looking to potentially sell in the area."

As Erza predicted, the trio arrived in town. They couldn't help but look in awe at the bustling and crowded town. The town was even better than they expected and the overall atmosphere was great. The streets were clean, children were playing around laughing, and there weren't a lot of homeless people. It seemed like a great place to raise a family in.

"Woah, look at all the food." Natsu was drooling at the sight of meat skewers, bread, dessert, and etc. "Why don't we just move here? Look at all this land. Everything looks great and the people look nice. Ow!" Natsu looked at Erza teary eyed. "Why did you hit me?"

"We must not make any rash or impulsive decisions," scolded Erza. "There will be temptations! But we must persevere…" Erza's voice trailed off when she saw a blue-haired man opening a box. In it was a pink circle thing covered with strawberries. She could feel herself drooling at the sight of that lovely whatever it was.

Erza snapped out of her daydream and walked over to the man. "You! What are you eating?"

Jellal jumped in his place, almost dropping his strawberry cake in the process. The Baker was kind enough to bring him and Lucy desserts when he came to pick up his medication. He and Lucy divided up the goods, her taking her half home to share with her family and the staff, and him sharing it with orphaned kids at the church. Jellal saved one piece for himself and was about to devour the strawberry goodness when someone called him out.

Jellal looked up to see a beautiful scarlet haired woman in men's clothing glaring at him and his cake. She's just my type, thought Jellal, staring at his warrior princess, marching towards him. So cool and fierce!

Erza suddenly grabbed the blue-haired man by his collar. "You! What is this?!" Erza used her other hand to gesture to the thing in the box.

"And she tells us not to be swayed by temptations or stand out," grumbled Gray under his breath. A few people stopped in their place and stared at them.

"I-It's a strawberry cupcake," replied Jellal nervously. She's so close! Jellal couldn't help but stare at her lips and flushed when he realized what he was doing. "W-would you like to try it," he offered, hoping it would get him in her good graces.

Erza suddenly let him go when he offered to share with her. She was astonished at the kindness of this stranger and how gently he spoke to her. "Y-you would do that?" Most men were intimidated by her and some would run away yelling demon. However, the man in front of her was kindly smiling at her. "Why?"

Jellal gave her a friendly smile, handing the box over to his warrior princess. "Because sharing is caring." Sharing what you had showed that you cared for the surrounding people.

Erza's face turned bright red with those words. D-does that mean he cares about me? Oh my! Now that Erza had time to look at the man in front of her, he was very handsome, with a lean figure. His tattoo only enhanced his facial features. "Thank you," muttered Erza shyly, taking the box from Jellal. She grabbed the cupcake and brought it to her mouth, taking a bite. She closed her eyes in bliss and let out a satisfied moan at the sweet bliss she just tasted. "T-This is delicious. I've never tasted anything like that in my life."

Jellal's smile grew fonder as he watched his warrior princess enjoy her treat. It was nice to see she wasn't one of those women who refused to have sweets in order to watch her weight. She was getting even more interesting by the minute. "Yes. Our local baker makes the best desserts in town. By the way, I have not seen you and your companions here before. Are new to this town or just visiting," he inquired, hoping to learn more about the woman. Because of his father's job and what he currently did, Jellal knew everyone in town. He would have recognized someone like her.

"And how would you know that," interrogated Natsu, narrowing his eyes at Jellal. He yelped when Gray threw his fist at the back of his head. "Hey!" He rubbed the back of his head to soothe the pain and glared at Gray. "What was that for?"

"Sorry for his rudeness. He's an idiot," apologized Gray to Jellal.

"I don't mind." Jellal wasn't bothered by the pink-haired man's outburst. "And to answer your question, my father is the local minister and I work part time at the clinic down there." Jellal pointed to the clinic where he and Lucy worked.

"We're travelers looking for a place to settle," piped up Erza after she finished her cupcake. Unbeknownst to Erza, there was a little frosting on her cheek. "We come from another land in the north. Things got bad, and it forced us to move. We are hoping to find another place to call home before winter." Erza decided to tell some of the truth. She wasn't lying about why they had to move. The land they previously lived in almost became barren, making it impossible to continue to live there.

"Well, you came to the right place!" Jellal gave another beaming smile. "Come on." He gestured for them to follow him. "I'll show you around." He hoped to convince his warrior princess to stay here, close to him.

"... and they had these delicious meat skewers. Everything tasted amazing." Natsu chatted excitedly as he, Gray, and Erza reported their findings to Laxus. Jellal gave them a wonderful tour of the territory.

"Yes," nodded Erza in agreement. "The land was vast and perfect for farming and settling. There were so many goods in the territory that I have never seen before or only heard of. The people were very generous and welcoming." Everyone was so kind to them. Even if they didn't plan on staying there or pillaging it, it was a great place to sell or trade goods. Jellal and the townspeople had nothing but praise for their Count. Things really improved for them over the years. It's probably why they were so successful.

"However, there have been sightings of bandits around the area and neighboring villages have been pillaged." Gray decided to tell Laxus of the competition. "If we want to stay here, we have to take care of that." Get rid of the enemy before they get attacked first.

"Excellent work! However, we're not planning on moving here," stated Laxus, not once looking up from the paper he was reading.

"What?!"

"Why?!"

The three voiced their protests, causing Freed to raise his hand up, signaling silence. "Are you questioning the decision of the jarl? He has a plan in mind."

Seeing that no one will interrupt him, Laxus explains his plan. "This is a great place, however there's no point if they do not recognize us as citizens of the kingdom. And I have a plan to resolve that." Laxus placed a fancy decorated card on the table.

Gray picked it up. "What is it?" Why would Laxus have such a girly looking card in his possession?

"That is an invitation to an event the princess is hosting. It will be women-only making it the perfect opportunity to kidnap her. With her in our grasp, we will demand land and citizenship from the king." Laxus answers Gray's question. It is the quickest and least violent, by Laxus's standards, to get some sort of foothold in the kingdom before everyone else arrived. Because only women are allowed means that security will be lax, making the kidnapping a lot easier.

Laxus faced Natsu and Gray. "You two will go to the location written on the invite. First chance you seek to kidnap the princess. And make sure she is not harmed in any way." He added. No point in harming the merchandise.

The Next Day

Lucy let out a sigh as she walked towards the imperial garden. She arrived early, so she still had some before the event hosted by the princess started. She came to take a breather and calm her nerves, mentally going over the speech she spent all night practicing.

"Princess," a familiar stoic voice called out to her. Lucy turned around to see Virgo standing there, expressionless as usual. "You forgot your gloves in the carriage." Virgo handed the black lace gloves to Lucy.

"Oh Virgo. What would I ever do without you?" Lucy thanked Virgo. She took them off in the carriage because they were causing her arms to itch. She forgot to put them back on when they arrived at the imperial castle.

"I was only doing my duty. Punishment princess," Virgo asked with a scary glint in her eyes.

"No! No punishment, Virgo." Lucy's sweat dropped at her maid's antics. "Will you be staying with me or by the carriage with Loke?"

"I shall stay with big brother until you are finished."

"Then you are dismissed." Virgo bowed and left her alone. She was about to walk back inside when someone put their hand on her mouth and covered her eyes with the other. She dropped her lace gloves to the ground.

Hiding in the bushes

"Did you catch all that? The maid just called her princess," whispered Natsu to Gray. They were both hiding in the bushes, waiting for a chance to kidnap the princess.

"Of course I did fire breath. I was right here the whole time." Gray whispered back. "Move your fat ass over. I can't see."

"Look! The maid left, and she's alone." Natsu pointed to the lone blonde woman in the gardens. Her back was facing them, and she was admiring the roses. "Let's get her now."

Natsu and Gray slowly tiptoed towards the unsuspecting blonde woman. Natsu had rope in his hands and Gray had a sack in his.

Natsu leapt towards the woman, covering her eyes and mouth. "Hold still oomph." Natsu tried to tie the struggling woman up, but she jabbed her elbow in his side. "Yeouch," he cried when she bit his hand. "Hurry up, ice prick!" He placed his hand on her mouth again as he reached into his pocket to gag her with, trying not to wince when her nails dug into his skin. Last thing they wanted was for her to scream for help.

"She keeps moving! Hold her still so I can put the bag on her." Gray tried to shove the woman into the bag. He let out a cry of pain when Natsu tried to lift her into the bag and she kicked his face and family jewels. "My balls!" He gritted his teeth, holding his private area as he double-overed.

After a few more hits and hair-pulling, they managed to put ' the princess' in the sack.

Natsu panted heavily as he struggled to catch his breath. He rubbed his jaw to soothe the ache that was starting to form. "That… was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. She's quite the fighter."

"Let's just get out of here," growled Gray. He hoped that after this, his junk was still working. "Carry her. I can't." He gestured to his groin.

Natsu slumped the bag over his shoulders and they both ran away from the gardens before someone tried to look for the 'princess'. They couldn't want to tell Laxus the good news.

Laxus was grinning when he saw Gray, and Natsu came back with a moving sack. That meant they captured the princess. "Good job! What the hell happened?" When he got the opportunity to get a closer look, both guys looked bruised and disheveled.

"She didn't… exactly come along willingly." Gray tried to not to shudder as he called the blow he received to his balls. "But we didn't harm her as you said," he added.

"Excellent. Open the bag and let her out," commanded Laxus, watching the two carefully. "She is our guest." Now they are one step closer to achieving their plan. Once they get citizenship, he will also demand a piece of land for his people to live on. This was all thanks to the tied up blonde princess sitting on the floor.

Wait, a minute…. blonde hair? This wasn't the princess. The princess had green hair, if he remembers correctly from the intelligence report Freed gave them. Laxus was in a state of anger, confusion, and curiosity at the same time. Those fucking idiots kidnapped the wrong girl! Laxus thought as he stared at the gagged, tied up blonde who was glaring daggers at him.

Very beautiful, tied up blonde.

"You imbeciles! This is not the princess," roared Laxus. Although the woman was well-dressed, indicating her high stature in nature, she was not the princess. Who the hell was she?

"But the maid called her princess," Natsu tried to explain but cowered in fear at the glares Freed and Laxus sent his way. If she wasn't the princess, it was Laxus and Freed's fault. They didn't describe her appearance. Only that she was supposed to be in the garden before the event started.

The woman tried talking, but her voice was muffled by the gag. Lucy was livid. This was why she didn't attend noble gatherings. Who knew what the hell would happen there? But they were not from the kingdom. They were probably the foreigners Obaba-sama was talking about. "Mmmmmm." Lucy struggled to get out of the rope tied around her hands and legs. No good. They were tied really well. Maybe they'll let her go because they got the wrong person.

"Wait, a minute." Freed took a long good look at their 'hostage' and gasped. "It's Count Lore's eldest daughter!" There were only two women in Fiore in high society with blonde hair, and that was Jenny Lore and Lucy Lore. He knew what Jenny looked like because of how well-known she was among the social circle, meaning this was Lucy. Freed hurriedly removed the gag from Lucy's mouth and untied her hands and legs. "I'm so sorry there's been a misunderstanding." Freed apologized profusely, hoping to salvage the situation and get into the woman's good graces.

Lucy rubbed the area of her wrist where the rope was tied. As angry as she was, she knew that the foreigners could easily kill her or keep her here. They were giving her a chance to leave, and she was going to take it. "I require a horse," she said calmly, staring at Laxus with an unwavering gaze. "And directions, so I may head home. I'll convince my father and the kingdom not to come after you," she added. She was pretty sure someone may have noticed her disappearance. Her father might call the entire army just to find her.

"Yes! Yes, of course." Freed quickly agreed before Laxus had a chance to respond. "This way, please." Freed was about to guide her out of the room when she suddenly stopped.

"One moment." Lucy turned around and walked towards Natsu. She lifted her skirt and kicked him in the groin, satisfied at the cry of pain he let out. She wiped the dust off her hands and straightened her skirt and posture. She calmly walked out with Freed with such elegance and grace no one would believe she just kneed a man in his private parts.

Laxus gawked at the woman who left the room. Everything he thought he knew about the ladies in the kingdom went out the window at the appearance of this blonde. Having his current plan foiled, Laxus barked orders to a guffawing Gray to bring him Freed. They needed another plan asap.

The Count's Residence

"Miss Lucy," cried Miss. Spetto, running towards Lucy when she entered her home, her dress slightly dirty and her hair disheveled. "Where were you? You suddenly disappeared. We were all worried something terrible had happened."

"I'm fine. I'll explain everything later. Where's my father?" Lucy took off her shoes and headed up the stairs. Lucy had to tell her father everything about the foreigners on the outskirts of their territory and their plan to become members of the kingdom.

Miss Spetto hesitated for a second before giving Lucy an answer. "Your father's resting in his room. His trip back from the capital didn't go smoothly. The carriage was attacked by the bandits. Luckily your father's leg is sprained and nothing more."

"Take me to him," demanded Lucy. Miss Spetto obeyed and brought Lucy to her father's room, where Count Jude was laying in bed with a cast around his ankle.

"Oh, Father." Lucy went to sit next to her father and checked to see if there were any other injuries on him. "Are you alright," she asked worriedly. Her father got lucky, as well as the coachman riding the carriage. Most victims of the bandits were not left alive, but they were able to escape, mostly unscathed, since the carriage was empty. There was nothing to steal.

"Lucy. My dear. I'm fine." Jude reassured his daughter. He loved all his children, but he always had a soft spot for Lucy who resembled his Layla. Even the way she took care of him reminded him of Layla doing things for his well-being. "Where were you? I was getting worried."

Lucy explained everything that happened. How she was mistakenly kidnapped by the foreigners and they let her go.

"If I were you, I would take care of those savages before they cause any more harm," a snobbish voice came from the door. Rufus Lore entered the room.

"With what, army brother," sneered Lucy. She wondered where Rufus got these crazy impulsive ideas. Probably from his ass, she thought, trying not to snort.

"Then what do you propose, dear sister," taunted Rufus. He did not like Lucy at all. He was wondering what his father was thinking about bringing a commoner into their house. Even worse, give her a man's education. His sister was just as crazy for interacting with her and encouraging her behavior.

"They let me go, Rufus!" Lucy smirked when she saw a tic form on Rufus's forehead when she used his first name. She knew he didn't like her because she was illegitimate. But she never understood why he saw her as a threat to the Count's position. He was the son and legitimate heir to the position. Even if they let women succeed, Lucy was not eligible because she was illegitimate. The fact her father even took her in and recognized her as part of the family was a big deal.

Lucy continued, "They're scared and desperate." While she was in the sack, she overheard the conversation between her 'kidnappers.' They wanted to be recognized as part of the kingdom as soon as possible and their best option was to hold the princess' ransom and demand it from the king. Although it was a reckless plan, it was the quickest way to receive it. "I propose we go and talk with them. Make peace with each other and figure out their intentions." They're going to encounter each other either way and it was better to have their neighbors on their good side.

"Father! You can't possibly think it's a good idea. They are savages! Reason will not work with them, only violence." Rufus was against this idea, and he hoped his father took his side.

"Silence! Both of you are right. However, we cannot make any preconceived notions about them. Unless we figure out their motive for moving here, we cannot make a move. So I will go with Lucy's idea and meet them." Jude dismissed both of them. He would meet with their leader next week and go over peace talks.

The Next Week

Lucy stepped out of the carriage after her father, who took her hand and assisted her down. His leg was still healing, so he brought his walking stick. Over the week, more attacks have happened. The closer the bandits came to their area, and a lot of their people got injured or had their homes ransacked.

Lucy bit her lip nervously as she looked at the Viking village in front of her, following the path she familiarized when the green-hair escorted her. She didn't think she would come again, but desperate times call for desperate measures. She escorted her father to the largest cabin in the area, which was where the blonde man, who she assumed was the leader, resided in.

Lucy ignored the stares she and her father were getting as they made their way to the building. She saw the green-haired man from the other days and gave him a smile. "Greetings. My name is Lucy, and this is my father, Count Jude. We would like to request a meeting with your leader."

Freed was caught off guard at the appearance of the noble woman they kidnapped the other day and her father. He was wondering why they wanted to meet with Laxus. Wait, were the rooms even cleaned?! What about refreshments? "O-of course," said Freed in a flustered tone. "Right this way." Freed took them to the meeting room because it was the most accommodating and appropriate for guests.

"Thank you," said Jude as Lucy guided him to an empty seat and helped him sit. Lucy sat in the chair next to him.

"I shall call for the Jarl at once." Freed headed to the cabinet and pulled out some mead and cups. He set them before the two nobles, pouring it for them. "Some refreshments." Freed bowed and scurried to find Laxus. This was a marketing opportunity, and he wasn't about to waste it.

Jude hesitantly took a sip from the cup and was pleasantly surprised at the taste. "T-this is delicious." The sweet taste of honey combined with spices left a pleasant taste in his mouth. "I can taste the honey and spices." He turned to face Lucy, who took a sip as well. "Lucy, my dear, you're well-versed in herbs and spices. What do you think they used?"

Lucy took another sip, letting it sit in her mouth before she swallowed it. "Hmm, I detected some ginger, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and…" Lucy took another sip. "... cinnamon?" Depending on the amount used, one can easily overpower the other. Lucy sniffed the cup. "Although I smell rosemary, I'm not really detecting the taste that much." Rosemary can easily overpower food or drinks.

"We brew it into a tea first before the fermenting process. It let's us control the amount of flavor." A deep baritone voice called from the door, causing Lucy and her father to look at the guest at the door.

Laxus walked into the room. Freed told him where there were guests waiting for him. Freed entered afterwards and closed the door behind them. He was surprised to see the blonde woman from the other day. Now that he had a good look at her, she was extremely good-looking, with soft brown eyes, heart-shaped face and pouty lips. He assumed the older gentleman next to her was her father. It's obvious that she didn't get her looks from him. Hmmm, her mother must have been quite the looker.

Lucy looked at her father worriedly when he tried to stand up to greet Laxus. His leg is worse than I thought, but at least it's recovering nicely. When the doctor left, Lucy took a look at the leg. It was swelling pretty badly and had to use a special salve to reduce the swelling.

"That's not necessary," Laxus quickly said when he saw Jude trying to stand using his walking stick. "You may stay seated." Laxus sat behind the desk in front of them and faced them. "You certainly know your drinks." Laxus couldn't help but praise the two. Most nobles wouldn't dare to try their drinks or unable to handle them and those who did were unable to fully appreciate the process of making it.

"My daughter Lucy is a doctor." Jude couldn't help but feel proud of what his daughter accomplished. Even when the other nobles tried to discourage her, she still completed her studies, following in her mother's footsteps as a person who wanted to help others. She gave them the idea of promoting cleanliness. Using a product called soap made from animal fat and other things from the East, they sold it to the commoners as well. Nobles would purchase scented ones at a higher price.

Lucy blushed at the praises. "Although they taught us the most current methods of medicine, a lot of home remedies still work." Not everyone could afford expensive medicine, but a lot of old practices still worked to this day and were inexpensive.

"We also recently acquired some fertile land. It would be perfect to build a vineyard there," Jude continued. It would provide more job opportunities for the people, building it, maintaining it, and harvesting it. "Since it is an area, I still lack knowledge of, I try to inform myself to the best of my ability. You have to know what you're selling and who you are selling to." It sounds easy on paper, but many nobles fail to take this into account. Only selling to nobles despite another large customer base. They, after all, want what the nobles have and giving them a little taste of something similar to luxury leads to them buying the products.

"Wise words from a wise man," complimented Laxus. He could see why their territory was doing so well. It's clear Jude was passionate about his work and people. Unlike other leaders, he was willing to listen to the people around him. He had a feeling his children contributed as well as he recalled Erza talking about the clean streets and beauty products.

"I can't take all the credit. My children help as well." Lucy spends the most time in the village so she sees what the people need. Lucy might have suggested the use of soap and shampoo, but Jenny suggested scenting them to make them more appealing to noble women. With her connections in society, she was able to advertise their products, gaining loyal customers. Rufus was amazing at sealing deals and negotiating with business associates. He made sure to give his children the best education possible, grooming each one in case they needed an heir if something happened to Rufus.

"Your children are lucky to have you as a father." Laxus couldn't help but admit truthfully. At least Jude was encouraging his children to succeed. His father wanted him to fail.

"Ahem." Jude cleared his throat and Lucy couldn't help but grin. He was trying to hide the fact he liked praises. "Forgive me. I have gone off topic. We have something we would like to discuss with you and your group. I want our groups to coexist peacefully." Jude was about to continue when Lucy suddenly cut him off.

"We are proposing an alliance, specifically a marriage alliance." Lucy was unable to sleep the last few nights, constantly thinking of different solutions on how to deal with the bandits. At the pace they were going and with no Rune Knights around to help, their territory will be hit and hit hard. She had nightmares of chaos and bloody people running around the streets, begging for help. "You need citizenship and a place to live and we need able-bodied fighters to defend against the bandits." Vikings were incredible fighters, the men and the women. It was a deal beneficial for both sides.

"There are only two ways a person can attain a title in Fiore. Succession and marriage. The first option is out of the gate because you are a foreigner and not of this land. I'll make a deal with you. Marry me, and you'll become a part of the Count's territory with the members of your clan. I'm not asking for much. All I ask is protection for my people." Lucy gave Laxus a heartfelt, unwavering gaze. She was firm in this decision and ready to give up her freedom.

"Lucy, what is the meaning of this?!" Jude was shocked to hear this. "Is this because of my leg? It will get better soon." He tried to reassure her, but Lucy shook her head.

Lucy blinked back tears. "You got lucky this time. Actually, I don't even think it was just luck. They purposely let you go as a warning." Lucy found it strange they let her father go with minor injuries. Bandits were known to be ruthless and left not one alive. They were scoping the area and watching them. What if her father's carriage was transporting goods that day? He would have been left to die in a ditch and no one would have found out until a few days passed because he was traveling with no security. "And even if your leg healed, what are you going to do? We are mostly composed of farmers and merchants. No one here knows how to fight, meaning no one can defend themselves."

While Lucy and her father were busy arguing, Laxus was in a state of shock as Freed excused them so they could talk outside.

"What are you going to do Laxus," asked Freed worriedly as he continued to observe Laxus's reaction. This was everything they wanted and hoped for, but at the end of the day, it was Laxus's decision. "A noble lady has willingly come to you herself and is offering marriage, citizenship, and land. It can't get better than this for us."

"I-i don't know." Laxus told Freed truthfully. Was he ready to give up his freedom and marry a woman he just met for the sake of their survival? "What do we know about them?" If he was going to make a life-altering decision, he needed all the facts.

"The Count is very influential in the King's Court. Having his backing will be very good for us," stated Freed. He took a deep breath in preparation for what he was about to say next and continued. "Based on the information I gathered, he has a huge soft spot for Lucy. She was born out of wedlock with a commoner. She greatly resembles her… We could use her as a bargaining chip if things don't go our way."

Freed continued to list the pros of marrying Lucy. "She's young, rich, beautiful, and smart. You heard her father. She's a doctor! We really need one. Porlyusica is sick and won't last long and Wendy's still young and inexperienced." Freed left Laxus with a closing statement. "Please take a moment to think about it. But rest assured I will follow you no matter what you decide."

Laxus wasn't sure how long he was standing there staring blankly at the door, where his possible future wife would be. Even if they applied for citizenship, the regular way it would take years for them to get improved. Other territories weren't as welcoming to foreigners as the Count's was. His scouts constantly praised how tolerant the people were, mostly because they were from different lands as well. Laxus took a deep breath and made up his mind as he entered the room.

"I am not letting you sacrifice yourself! Circumstances prevented me from marrying Layla, but you have a choice to marry someone of your own free will." Jude pleaded, hoping Lucy would change her mind. The one thing she definitely inherited was his stubbornness. "I don't want you to have a loveless marriage. Marry someone who will take care of you and cherish you." Jenny and Rufus's mother was a great partner, but he didn't love her and she didn't love him. His heart always belonged to Layla, and he regretted not staying with her. He wanted Lucy to marry a nobleman so she will be secured in the future. This was still a male dominating society.

"And I choose to marry him if he'll have me," countered Lucy, not budging from her decision. "You know very well no noble will marry me because of my background," she muttered softly. She knew how big a deal it was when her father took her in and the backlash he received for taking care of a bastard. She was grateful for the kindness and opportunities he'd shown her. Now it was her turn. "Unless you agree with my brother that I should have married Duke Sawarr Junelle."

"I don't know what your brother was thinking entertaining that fucking widow." Jude shook his head. Rufus's solution to the knight's problem was to enlist the help of Duke Junelle and his group of Knights. But his condition was to marry Lucy, who caught his eye at the royal banquet and have her as his Mistress. How dare he think that?!

"At least here I would be respected and treated as an equal." Lucy heard of the wonderful stories of Viking women and the contributions they offer to the clan.

Jude sighed. "Lucy, are you sure you want to do this," he asked softly. "What about the clinic? You worked so hard to rebuild it." The clinic used to belong to Layla before she passed away. Because Lucy was too young to own it, it was abandoned for years until Lucy took over with Jellal.

"I can ask Jellal to take over. He can do it by himself. I can open another one. I've been meaning to do that for a while." The clinic was the only one in town, and she was hoping to expand, hiring more people to be in charge.

"I'll support your decision. But know that our doors will always be open to you." Jude gave Lucy a tired smile. It seems that Lucy was adamant in her decision and no matter what he says, will change her mind.

Lucy gave her father a smile back. She looked at the door where the man named Laxus entered the room and sat back at the table. She placed all the documents that entailed details of their marriage and the deals associated with it. "You can look at everything over here."

Laxus took the papers from Lucy. He read everything over. It was extremely beneficial for both sides. "We shall hold it next Friday. It is an auspicious day for us."

The Next Friday

Laxus looked at himself in the mirror as he was getting dressed. He took the ceremonial sword he was going to exchange with his bride and sheathed it in its holster with the ring attached to the sheath. He put away his morning gift and house keys that he will give the next morning.

The day after they agreed to the alliance, Laxus called upon 30 able-bodied men and dealt with the bandit problem. The captured one quickly squealed the location of the hideout and they took care of everyone. In their hideout was a bunch of loot, weapons, and food. The amount worried Laxus. How long were they doing this, Were they planning a rebellion, he thought. At least they stole from people who deserved it. If they were not stopped, there would have been serious problems.

During the week leading up to the wedding, Laxus got to know his wife to be and her family. Lucy gave him a tour of the territory. It was better than he imagined. He did not like her brother Rufus and he had a feeling the feeling was mutual. Jenny was interesting, and that was putting it lightly. He never thought a person could talk about themselves or clothes for hours and hours. He liked his future father-in-law. It was amazing to see him in action, taking the role of leader and managing a territory with its people.

Jude was kind enough to offer land that had houses already built. Apparently, it was made for the knights if they ever came to Magnolia, so they didn't have to room with the townsfolk. Since they were not necessary, they were empty. It was near the vineyard and forest making expansion was easy. Laxus offered to make more of the mead Freed offered him and other drinks Vikings drank to sell. Now they had a source of income.

Lucy was very nice and although he did not love her and tried to get to know her to the best of his ability, he at least knew her motives were genuine. Lucy showed him where she worked and her dear friend Jellal. Until her new clinic was built, she was planning on doing home visits. Laxus found out that Lucy was extremely popular with the townsfolk, but none of them knew of her status as a Count's daughter. That day Erza was accompanying them and it was the first time he saw Erza look bashful. Someone had a crush.

Laxus put on his signature coat when a knock came from the other side of the door. Freed entered the room with a smile. "Are you ready?"

Laxus took one final look at his appearance and took a deep breath. "... yes." Today was his wedding day. That thought finally sunk in. He was only 25 and wasn't planning on getting married anytime soon. Fate can be funny sometimes.

Laxus walked outside where an impromptu feast hall and aisle were built for the wedding ceremony. Although Jude wanted to have a church wedding, Lucy agreed to have a Viking wedding and follow the traditions since she was marrying into a noble Viking household. The compromise was signing the marriage certificate, so they were registered as husband and wife and Lucy wanted to wear a veil.

Everyone was sitting on the benches. Lucy's family was sitting in the front with her close friends and servants. His grandfather, unfortunately, was still on a boat, so he was unable to attend. Actually, Laxus did not have time to inform his grandfather that he was getting married to a foreigner, but that was a discussion he would have for another day. He might not make a big deal, but the other elders might.

Laxus stood by the 'entrance' as he waited for his bride to arrive so he could safely escort her over the threshold. It was actually an arbor decorated with flowers by Mira, Freed's fiance, who madly worked with Jenny to make everything perfect for this quick ceremony.

Lucy checked over her appearance as Virgo adjusted her veil with a crown on top. She was extremely nervous. This was the day she was getting married to a complete stranger. But at least this stranger was better than Duke Junelle.

Handsome too, she thought, as Virgo handed her bouquet and the sword she was exchanging with Laxus. She knew he was trying his best to be nice and accommodating to her. She was going to be in an unknown environment with unknown people. She didn't have a lot of time to get to know them since the wedding was set quickly. But from what she was able to gather, they were great people who were passionate about their way of life.

"Are you ready, Lucy." Mirajane called from the other side of the door.

"Yes," responded Lucy, getting up from her seat. She took a deep breath and left the room.

It was a beautiful ceremony. The bride and groom looked wonderful together, and they exchanged swords and rings to symbolize their union. Now it was the time for celebration. The real celebration was starting as drinks and instruments were brought out. Seeing that things were going to get chaotic for their own taste, Lucy's family left, but not before Jude asked Laxus to take care of Lucy.

Lucy was curious when suddenly the women brought in a strange mixture. They passed it out to the men and even some women. She was given one, but kindly declined because she wasn't sure what it was. She turned to Freed, who was standing next to Laxus, and asked him what it was when she saw Laxus gulp it and start brawling with the men. Freed explained it was the berserker brew which the men used to get high off of during celebrations or before battle, which included fly agarics.

"I thought fly agarics were poisonous," inquired Lucy. She was wondering how the long-term consumption of fly agarics has killed none of them yet.

"They are," answered Freed. "Which is why we don't eat them raw. We usually smoke them or cook them into a broth. It lessens the dangerous side effects."

"Interesting," muttered Lucy, fascinated by this new tidbit of information. The doctor in her relished the idea of obtaining additional information on plants. She stored this piece of information somewhere in her brain and vowed to write it down in her journal when she had the chance. She continued to watch Laxus brawl with the other members, knocking down men after another.

Laxus let out a war-cry, pumping his fists in victory when all his opponents were on the floor, defeated with the others cheering him on. He felt amazing. He drank the berserker brew many times, but never has he felt like this. Even the taste was unique. Laxus shook his head, stumbling over his feet, and tried to steady himself when a wave of dizziness came over him. Huh, that's strange. I've never gotten dizzy or a headache from this before, like the others. Must be a bad batch or something stronger, he thought, wincing at the pounding in his head.

"Is that supposed to happen," Lucy asked Freed. This was the first time she was seeing the Berserker state, and she was pretty sure it didn't include dizziness and dangerous teetering. She was looking worriedly at Laxus, who was swaying back and forth, holding his head, his face scrunched in pain.

"No, it shouldn't. At least not to Laxus," Freed responded back, observing Laxus with a scrutinizing eye as well. "Something's not right." He watched as Laxus almost tripped over his own feet.

Suddenly Lucy had a bout of realization. She recognized the symptoms Laxus was exhibiting. She stood from her seat quickly, taking the empty cup in front of her and headed towards Laxus with Freed following her frantically. "Freed, help him to his room. Someone has poisoned him!" She headed to the kitchen to get what she needed.

Lucy brewed some very strong coffee from the beans Max brought her and some herbal tea she made to help Laxus afterwards. She grabbed a clean bucket, a pitcher of water, fresh towels, and a couple of other supplies and headed to Laxus, hoping her plan worked. She walked in the room to see Freed helping a dazed Laxus into his night clothes and making sure he sat upright on the bed. "Okay, I need you to put this on the floor between his legs." Lucy placed the objects in her arms on the bedside table and handed the bucket over to Freed, who followed her directions. "Thank you. Now I need you to bring the broth he was eating. I have to inspect it to see if anything else was added." Freed nodded and left the room, trusting Lucy to help his friend.

Lucy moved closer to sit beside Laxus, whose pupils were highly dilated, with sweat running down his face, further confirming her suspicions. She gave him the bitter coffee and urged him to drink it. "Drink this. It might taste bad, but it should help you flush the toxin out of your system." Laxus blindly followed her orders and drank some of the coffee. He made a sour face at the strong taste and tried to bring the cup away, but Lucy forced him to finish the drink. She needed to force him to vomit, to empty his system.

Laxus felt the wave of nausea over him and tried to hold it in. He felt the bile in his throat and stopped resisting, emptying out the contents of his stomach into the bucket. He struggled to catch his breath after each heave.

"That's it. Just let it out," said Lucy in a soothing voice, rubbing his back, ignoring the smell of vomit. She was in doctor mode and a patient was in need. At least it wasn't the worst thing she ever smelled.

Lucy pushed his head, so it was hovering over the bucket. Last thing she needed was him choking on his vomit. When she noticed he was all done, she wiped his mouth with the clean towel she gave him the herbal tea she prepared. "Drink this and then it's off to bed." She helped him lie on his bed and placed a blanket over him.

A thought went through Lucy's head as she stared at Laxus's sleeping form. He's out and won't wake for a while. Freed's also gone. No one comes near this place, anyway. This is my best chance to escape. Lucy looked at the satchel filled with her belongings. She could easily leave with the clothes on her back to the nearest monastery and ask for sanctuary.

Lucy took a step towards her satchel and paused. She looked back at Laxus, who was sweating and sleeping in discomfort. She let out a sigh. She couldn't leave him alone like this.

Lucy changed her attire and got to work nursing him. Waking him up every few hours to give him some water.

The Next Morning

"Morning sunshine," Laxus heard a sweet voice call out to him. Laxus tried to open his eyes and when he did, he felt a huge migraine in his head and throat, parched as the desert. When his eyes finally adjusted to the bright light, he realized he was in his room. In front of him was Lucy, sitting near to him scribbling on some papers. Oh yeah, he got married.

Lucy stopped scribbling and took off her glasses. "How are you feeling?" He still looked a little pale and sweaty, but his fever dropped considerably. A few more days in bed should aid his recovery.

"What happened?" Laxus was surprised to hear how raspy his voice sounded. Then again, his throat felt like it was on fire. "Water," he whispered, and coughed.

Lucy took the pitcher on the bedside and filled a mug with water. She helped him sit up and held the cup for him as he greedily gulped it. "You were poisoned. I saw the bowl you were eating from. Someone thought it was funny to add seeds of different fruits. Some of them, if consumed in large quantities, could lead to severe cyanide poisoning. You were very lucky that whoever did this had no clue what they were doing." Lucy inspected all the bowls and brew this morning. Only Laxus was touched. Was this a prank or was someone out to kill Laxus? "You need to be more careful."

Laxus's mind immediately went straight to Acnologia. However, he was due to arrive next month with Gildarts and a small group. Did he plant a person to spy on him? It was no coincidence this happened on his wedding day. Even more importantly, he wondered why Lucy helped him. If he died, she would be free of the contract and could go back to her family. "Why did you help me," he gasped out.

Lucy thought for a second before she responded. "This is my home now and you are my husband," she told him genuinely with a small smile that made Laxus's heart go thump.

Laxus clutched his chest. I think the poison messed me up more than I thought. He tried to get up but was promptly pushed back down by Lucy, who gave him a stern glare. "I need to do my rounds and make sure everything is running smoothly."

"That's being taken care of. I have a meeting with a merchant in a few minutes. You get some more rest." Lucy gently chided him. They were preparing to expand more houses before next month where Freed informed her another group will be arriving. It was better to have the houses ready and gather more food to accommodate everyone. Hearing her name being called, she bids farewell to Laxus, who went back to sleep.

Two Weeks Later

Laxus found himself looking at Lucy when she wasn't looking. Currently, she was picking herbs with Wendy and explaining to her the different benefits. Whenever she would glance in his direction, he would quickly look away to occupy himself with the task he was supposed to be doing. At night, since they shared the same room even though they have not consummated their marriage, he would gaze at her as she slept, moving strands of hair away from her face. She would be in a deep sleep after a long day, knocking out the minute her head hit the pillow. Apparently, since there was another doctor on hand who happened to be not grumpy, a lot of the Vikings would visit Lucy and ask her for a checkup, even for the minor things. There was that, including some of the home visits she did.

Dammit, thought Laxus as he ran his hand through his hair once more, making it ever messier. I keep thinking about her since that day!

Freed walked in to see Laxus sitting on his chair in a stressful mood. What in the world is he thinking about that caused him to be like this? He decided to speak up. "Laxus… did something happen today?"

Laxus mustered the darkest glare he could and directed towards Freed. "It's none of your business. Just report."

Freed wondered if Laxus was just having a bad day and was taking it out on him. After all, the day Acnologia was going to come is getting closer and closer. Freed started to report the progress of the crops, the sales and houses. "We're currently on schedule, and everything should be ready by the time your grandfather arrives in a month. With the extra set of hands coming, we might even finish early." Freed's voice trailed off when he heard a knock from the other side of the door. "Who is it?"

"It's Lucy. Do you have a moment?"

Freed saw the strangest thing happen when he told Lucy to come in.

Laxus, who was slouching a few seconds ago, immediately sat straight and tried to look busy as Lucy entered. Before that, he used the silver mug next to him as a mirror to fix his hair. It was so quick if he wasn't paying attention, he wouldn't believe it happened. His scowl wasn't as mean as before.

"Sorry to bother you guys during the report, but Wendy and I had a suggestion that would greatly benefit us in the winter." Lucy walked into the room with a clipboard and a pen in her hand. She walked over to Laxus and showed him blueprints and field diagrams. "There's the risk of getting scurvy because we can't grow fruits at this time and have them last long enough in storage for consumption. Vitamin C is essential," emphasized Lucy as she went into doctor mode and passionately explained her plan, unaware that Laxus was looking at her fond eyes. The man himself wasn't aware of it.

Lucy continued, "I was thinking of growing rose hips and using the rose hips to make tea. We can dry them out and store them in the storerooms." The storerooms were where they kept their extra supplies or supplies they wanted to save for the winter. She had one where she stored her herbs because some required special conditions to have a long shelf life. "They're an excellent source of vitamin C and we can still use the leaves and roots to treat other ailments such as the flu and cold." Wendy suggested that part. They could even create an oil to use as a part of a beauty regimen and distribute it amongst the women. If it's a hit, they'll sell it in the capital and ask Jenny to promote it. "So, what do you think, Jarl?" Lucy used Laxus's title and looked at him expectantly. "Jarl," she called again, wondering if he didn't hear her. Laxus was in some sort of daze.

Laxus was currently occupied, staring at Lucy's lips and not at the words coming out of it. They were so pink and plump. Were they always this kissable? He wanted a taste. He was brought out of his daydream when suddenly Lucy's face got close to his. Too close.

Lucy put her hand on his forehead when his face turned red. "Are you okay? It seems like you don't have a fever." His forehead felt normal. Is the poison still affecting him?

"Yes. I'm fine!" Laxus jerked his face away from Lucy's hand. Seeing Lucy and Freed staring weirdly at him, he cleared his throat. He looked at the papers in her hand and quickly scanned it. "Everything looks good. You can proceed."

"I won't let you down." Lucy gave him a beaming smile that caused his heart to thump again and left the room cheerfully. She looks so pretty when she smiles like that.

When Lucy left the room, Laxus felt eyes on him and turned around to see Freed looking at him with a knowing grin. "What." he growled.

"Nothing," hummed Freed. "Isn't it great Lucy is so helpful? You certainly got lucky marrying her. She's smart, beautiful…" Freed continued to praise Lucy, his grin growing wider at the scowl Laxus made. It looks like someone is jealous. "... it's no wonder everyone likes her. She deserves a reward, from say her husband."

"Lucy doesn't need my approval. She's a strong, independent woman, and she knows her contributions are valuable," snarled Laxus in a tone that left no room for further discussion. He and Freed went back to work, barely exchanging words unless it was necessary. After a few minutes, Laxus shyly spoke up, avoiding Freed's gaze. "What would a husband give his wife to show his appreciation?" He hastily added with blazing cheeks, "I'm asking for a friend. A jarl should be knowledgeable on these things."

Freed, of course, saw through his lie quickly. "You want to ask me how to gain her affection, right?" It internally relieved Freed at this revelation. And here he thought it was something serious.

After a few seconds of silence, Laxus finally responded. "... Yes." Of course, nothing could get past Freed.

"Well, I have a few things in mind," declared Freed passionately, pushing his glasses up his nose. "You have mentioned she's always tired at night and goes to bed right away, correct?"

"Yes." Laxus nodded his head. "It's mostly because of the rounds she does every day. Her clan duties and her doctor duties."

"There's your solution! You should help her out and provide gifts! Get her something she likes. We have that clan raid coming up in a few days with that corrupt priest," Freed reminded Laxus. "Give some of the loot to Lucy." Monasteries were always filled with goods and treasures. Out of respect for the people living here, they mostly stole from corrupt people.

Laxus nodded as he took notes on the advice Freed gave him on a piece of paper. "Help and give gifts," he murmured under his breath. He recalled Lucy wanting more reading material and monasteries had more reading materials than libraries. He should start with her rounds. The raid wasn't until a few days later.

The Next Day

"You want to join me on my rounds," asked Lucy as she gathered her medical kit, taking what she needed for this specific excursion.

"Yes," replied Laxus. "As Jarl, I should know what is ailing my people." That was the excuse he was going to give her at the moment. Laxus saw that her clothes were plain and old. He frowned at that. As his wife, she was to wear the most beautiful and extravagant of clothing. This must get rectified immediately. "Why are you wearing that?" He gestured to her clothes and apron.

Lucy looked down to see what Laxus was talking about. "Oh, this old thing. Well, things are going to get messy today, so I didn't want to ruin my nice clothing." She was to help the Strauss family with a birth. Births were always messy, no matter how hard she prepared to stay clean.

"Is there anything you need assistance with? Something that requires strength," he added, flexing his muscles for emphasis. Laxus let experts do their thing. They were experts for a reason.

Lucy paused, pondering over something. "Well, there is one thing you can help with," says Lucy hesitantly. It did require some strength, but she wasn't sure Laxus was up for it. "But only if you want to and I will be there the whole time to guide you."

Laxus, without even bothering to ask what the task he was going to help with, agreed. "When do we get started?"

Me and my stupid mouth, thought Laxus, as he tried not to gag at the smell. He tightened his grip on the rope, awaiting Lucy's instructions on how to proceed. The last thing he expected was to help with the birth of a calf. Thank god he wasn't wearing his coat and took Lucy's advice to wear something simple.

"Get ready, Laxus," Lucy called out from the front. "Another contraction is coming. Be prepared to catch," she added. If things went right, the calf should be fully out now. He was currently half way out. When the hooves appeared, she tied the legs and instructed Laxus to pull when she told him to.

"Wait what." Laxus was momentarily confused when Lucy told him to prepare to catch. Catch what? "By the gods!" Laxus pulled when something flew towards him. Out of reflex, he caught it and quickly set it on the ground. He gave himself a once-over and made a look of disgust at the amount of fluids on his body.

"Congratulations. It's a boy!" Lucy used some hay to tickle the calf's nose as the mother went over to lick her baby. She checked over the mother and the baby, making sure everything was alright. Thankfully, the calf was breathing. "Not bad for your first time," Lucy giggled at Laxus when he made a sour face at his clothes.

All the negative thoughts in Laxus's mind went away at the sound of Lucy's laugh. He observed the cow mother and calf son interacting with each other and looked back at Lucy. He envisioned her with a bundle in her arms. In that bundle was a child with blonde hair. Her child, no, their child.

He wanted that badly. A family of his own. But he wasn't about to pressure Lucy into consummating their marriage until she was fully comfortable with him. He hoped that by gaining her affection; it was a step in the right direction. This raid was extremely important. His love life was at stake here!

Clan Raid

"We're being attacked!" A monk cried out, running all over the church. People were scrambling all over the place as intruders came and started looting the place. "Father, what should we do!" He grabbed the priest's robes. "They have weapons and they are going to steal the stash." All the money they gained from cons and indulgences would be gone in a matter of seconds.

"Capture them," yelled Erza, pointing her sword towards the monk and the priest. "Our Jarl must speak with them." Gray and Natsu followed Erza's instructions and tied the two men up.

Oh God, this is it. He's going to take everything from me, thought the priest as he looked fearfully at Laxus, who was marching towards him with the meanest scowl on his face. I wonder what this man is going to ask me. Gold, money, jewelry. I'll give him anything as long as he doesn't kill me! The priest shut his eyes when Laxus pointed his sword towards his neck.

"Where are your books," demanded Laxus as he pointed his blade towards the priest.

"W-what," responded the priest in confusion, wondering if he heard correctly.

"Your books," repeating Laxus, getting frustrated at the lack of an answer. He pushed his blade into his neck with just the right amount of pressure to draw a little blood. "Where are they?"

"D-downstairs in the basement," he said tearfully, relieved when the sword was put away. His heart dropped at the scary man's next words.

"Take all the loot," ordered Laxus. "Leave nothing behind." Other than treasure, they also had food and supplies.

Lucy was reading in the bedroom when the door slammed open. It was a common occurrence because it seemed like Laxus couldn't open the door like a normal person, so she ignored the sound.

THUMP! She did jump in her seat at that sound, the pace of her heartbeat fast as she tried to calm down at the sudden noise. She looked to see Laxus crossing his arms and a trunk on the table. He looked away from her for some reason and mumbled, "Open it."

Curious, she put her book down and stood from the chair to properly look at the chest. She looked at it from different angles to try to discern what was in there. She delicately opened it and gasped in excitement. "This is… Where did you get them?"

Laxus found the wall to be very interesting as he continued to avoid Lucy's gaze with warm cheeks. "Got them on our latest raid. Monastery was scamming people and hogging money all to themselves. Divided the goods among everyone and since no one wanted the books, I thought I should give them to you."

He turned around to see Lucy looking at him with sparkling eyes. "Thank you, thank you, thank you." Lucy gave Laxus a big hug. "I'm going to get started on this now," she declared with a smile.

Laxus nodded and watched Lucy go through a series of expressions as she browsed through the first book. It was so cute. Especially the way she bit her lip in concentration or her eyes would go wide at something new. Laxus gazed at her fondly when she would passionately explain something new to him. In a few months, his grandfather would arrive. He would make him accept Lucy.

A month later

"Laxus, my boy," yelled Gildarts, just as he got off the ship. He ran towards Laxus and gave him a big hug. "It's great to see you after so long. Still as grouchy as ever," he joked, giving a huge pat on his back. He was about to continue when he noticed the blonde woman next to him. He let out an appreciative whistle as he looked her over.

"Well, hello there." Gildarts gave her a wink, smirking when he saw Laxus snarl. "Who is this beautiful flower in front of me?" He grabbed her wrist and kissed it.

"This is Lucy." Laxus introduced her, removing Gildarts' grip from Lucy. He was slightly regretting the dress he gifted her. It showed a generous amount of cleavage and her hourglass figure. He figured the corset would bother her, especially because she wanted to dress up to greet the new arrivals. Imagine his delight when he saw she was just as shapely without the corset. "She is my wife," he said proudly and loudly. He didn't want the other clan members to get any funny ideas.

"It is a pleasure to meet you," said Lucy, as she curtsied down to Gildarts. "I've heard many stories about you." She gave a beaming smile. Laxus told her how Gildarts was his mentor and like a father figure to him growing up.

"The pleasure is all mine," said Gildarts, trying to grab Lucy's wrist for another kiss, when Laxus swats his arm away. Rubbing the area that was hit, he continued, "I hope it was all good things."

"Of course. Oh, where are my manners? I'm sure you and your group are exhausted from the journey." Lucy gestured towards the territory they live in. "We have a feast ready for you in your honor." Lucy was surprised at the amount of energy Gildarts had, despite being on a boat for months. "Afterwards, please tell everyone to come to me for a checkup, for the week." Lucy looked at Laxus when she said this. "I want to make sure everything is fine and there are no complications." Lucy turned to Gildarts. "I presume there were no complications?"

"I'm healthy as a horse," said Gildarts, flexing his muscles. "You can do a more in-depth exam in my room if you want." He gave her another wink. "Here, I'll take my shirt off right now…" Gildarts lifted his shirt up to take it off when Lucy stopped him.

"No no no," said Lucy in a flustered tone. "There's no need. You look perfectly fine." She turned to Laxus. "I'm going to go ahead and make sure everything is running smoothly."

Once Lucy was out of earshot, Gildarts dragged Laxus to the side and whispered harshly in his ear. "Please tell me she has a sister," he begged. Why does Laxus get all the beautiful ones?

"She does," replied Laxus in a deadpan tone. He brushed Gildarts' arm off his shoulder and started following Lucy. "Who happens to be ENGAGED." He emphasized the word engagement. Even if Jenny wasn't, he'd doubt she would be interested in Gildarts and vice versa. She was too high maintenance. "Besides, I'm not interested in those shenanigans anymore. I'm married now," he declared, staring fondly at Lucy, who brushed a stray strand of hair and laughed at what Mira said.

Gildarts was shocked to hear this. "Where is Laxus and what have you done with him?" Just hearing Laxus was married was a shock to him.

"I'm serious old man." Laxus shook his head. "I finally found someone who I consider my equal, someone who can support me and the clan."

Gildarts gave Laxus an encouraging pat on the back. If it was anyone else, they would have fallen forward. "That's great to hear. I feel a little sad that I'm losing my wingman but I'm happy for you." He really meant it. Laxus always wanted someone to settle down with. "So which clan is she from?" He didn't recognize Lucy, so he was curious. "Blue Pegasus?"

"No."

"Lamia Scale?"

"No."

"Mermaid Heel?"

"No."

"Then what clan does she hail from?!" Gildarts was tempted to rip his hair out of frustration.

Laxus scratched his cheek with his finger as he avoided Gildarts gaze. "She's not from a clan. She's a local, a citizen of this nation." Well, technically, he has citizenship because he married Lucy. The paperwork of everyone else was almost finished.

"What," hissed Gildarts, looking up to make sure Lucy wasn't listening. Seeing she was still talking to Mira, he continued. "Are you out of your mind?! You know the elders are not going to like that." Gildarts could care less about who Laxus married, but it was important he had an heir. "Did you at least tell your grandfather?" Seeing Laxus silent gave him his answer. "You didn't! I knew it! Laxus, you know how the elders are. They may not approve of Lucy."

"I don't care," stated Laxus firmly, not budging on the subject. "I care deeply about her. I'll deal with the elders when they arrive for my grandfather's arrival."

"I didn't mean to upset you, Laxus." Gildarts tried to reassure Laxus when his posture turned rigid. "Lucy's a great gal, and I wish you all the best. I support the union between you two and I won't hesitate to vouch for you at the meeting." Although convincing the elders would take some time. They would have preferred Laxus marrying someone within his clan or someone from another clan to improve relations. He just married someone they barely know, from a place they do not share the same values or customs. Gildarts hoped that at least Lucy was with child, to shut them up and leave them alone. "I believe there is a feast in my honor." Gildarts and Laxus followed after the others back to the feast hall to prepare for the lot of hungry Vikings.

"Sorry for making you do this." Mira gave Lucy an apologetic look as they carried the pots of stew to serve in the dining hall. "We're a bit short-handed until Jarl Makarov arrives with everyone else."

Lucy shook her head and smiled. "It's okay. I don't mind." She set the pot over the fireplace and stirred the stew, waiting till it was warm enough to stew.

"I was not expecting you to be a good cook or hands-on." Complimented Mira as she watched Lucy add herbs and spices to the pot.

"My mother was a commoner, so I lived in the village until I was 10." Lucy replied, taking a moment to taste the stew. Satisfied by the flavor, she stopped adding more ingredients. "She was the local doctor, and I learned most of what I learned from her." Lucy smiled fondly as she recalled her mother and the memories they had.

"Well. It's mealtime." Mira rang the bell to announce it was dinnertime. "Elfman, please carry the pot so Lucy can serve on the left side. I'll handle this side with Bickslow."

People started to gather in the hall, sitting in their seats. Seeing it was her cue to serve, Lucy headed to the left side, with Elfman following her to do her job.

Acnologia was sitting in his usual seat in the corner, bored out of his mind as he tapped his fingers on the table. He was sick and tired of sitting here and doing nothing. He wanted to go rob villages and burn them to the ground. But Gildarts told him to sit still and relax. If Gildarts weren't stronger than him, he would have killed the man for barking orders from him. He took orders from no one and did what he wanted.

"Excuse me, would you like some stew," a sweet unfamiliar voice called, causing Acnologia to look up. He felt his heart thump at the newcomer's appearance.

The woman was very beautiful, with blonde hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a simple blue dress with her hair in a side braid. She smiled sweetly at him, causing his heart rate to spike up. She must be new because he would have remembered meeting someone like that in the clan.

He had a weakness for blonde women. Their hair reminded him of the gold liked to steal and hoard for himself. Every time they did a clan raid, he liked to go after women with blonde hair. Their screams and looks of terror always excited him. He liked those who tried to fight back. He liked seeing the hope and light fade away from their eyes when they realized no one would save them or he was too strong to push off.

Many of the others weren't interested in this practice. Raping women, leaving them for dead. But in his opinion, they were hypocrites. Bride-napping was okay, but if he tried to have fun with the locals and accidentally kill them, he was the bad guy. It wasn't his fault they couldn't handle him or upset his mood. They should know better and he had a feeling he was going to have a lot of fun with the woman in front of him.

Acnologia nodded and the blonde woman served him, quickly going to the next person and doing the same. He saw Natsu humming by and waved him over. "Butthead, who's the blonde?" Natsu was a good source of information. Natsu knew anything and everything about everyone. Like Freed, he was close to Laxus as well, but tended to be a bit naïve.

Natsu glanced at the person Acnologia was pointing at. "You mean Lucy?" Acnologia nodded. "You don't know? She's the jarl's wife."

Acnologia's eyes went wide at that tid-bit of information. "Really?" This was interesting information and the poor guy didn't realize the ammunition he was giving him. "When did this happen? None of us was informed of this joyous occasion."

Natsu nodded in understanding. "Yeah, they got married a few months ago. Their marriage is for securing an alliance with the kingdom and gaining citizenship, so the locals won't bother us. She's the daughter of a Count," Natsu rambled on, not realizing he was giving too much information to the clan outcast. "She's great and really sweet. Lucy's a big help to the clan. I don't know what Laxus would do without her. He seems to really like her." Natsu drooled at the sight of Acnologia's plate. "Hey. If you're not going to eat that, can I have it?"

Acnologia passed his plate over to Natsu, who let out a joyous yell, immediately digging in. He got up from his spot and walked towards the bonfire, where he knew the men would start fighting. He was going to observe the things Natsu just said. If it was true, Acnologia knew exactly how to cause pain to Laxus. He let out an evil chuckle as he stood in the corner, away from everyone else. He was killing two birds with one stone.

"It's brawl time," yelled Gildarts, beating his chest with his fists. The other clan members joined in on the chant. He took off his shirt and faced his opponent, who was sitting next to his wife. "Come on, Jarl! Let's spar for all time's sake. All those months at sea and I'm itching to punch someone."

"And you're choosing me," snorted Laxus in an amused tone, getting up from his seat, the men cheering him on. "All right. Let's do this. Of course, I'm the one who'll punch you first." Finally, a worthy challenger and he could show off his skills in front of his wife. Laxus removed his shirt and coat, handing them to Lucy. "Hold those. This won't take long."

Gildarts let out an appreciative whistle and taunted Laxus with an insult he knew would make him upset. "Is that what you said last night in bed? Hahahaha." Gildarts moved to the side to dodge a punch thrown his way by the angry blonde in front of him. His grin grew wider when he saw the pretty flush on Lucy's face and directed another wink towards her. "I can show you a better time than him- oomph." Gildarts staggered in his step when Laxus socked him in the face. Blood trickled down the side of his face. He let out another grin. This is what he was talking about.

The two men exchanged blows back and forth, a crowd forming around them, cheering them. Lucy was watching them both with worry. It didn't matter who won or lost, because both were going to be sore tomorrow and sporting bruises anywhere. She let out a sigh. Lucy was going to be the one responsible for tending to those wounds, as always. One thing she learned about the Vikings is that they loved to drink and fight. A lot. But they were proud of their heritage and the victories they accomplished, and Lucy respected that. She wished sometimes that passion could go towards other things.

No one was sure who was going to win, but a slight hesitation from Laxus allowed Gildarts to take advantage and overpower Laxus.

"Come on, man, can't you give this victory to me? You're embarrassing me in front of my wife." Laxus whispered harshly when Gildarts put him in a headlock. They've been at it for almost an hour and he was getting tired. He knew Gildarts was as well from his breathing.

"Sorry, pal. My daughter is watching. Besides, you'll thank me for this." Gildarts tightened his grasp on Laxus and sent a wink towards Lucy, to Laxus's dismay.

"Thank you for what argh!" Laxus felt a sharp blow on the back of his head and blacked out.

"That was stupid of you."

"Hn."

"You should have shown restraint."

"Hn."

"Are you listening to me?"

"Ow! That hurt." Laxus growled when Lucy put pressure on his injured arm.

"Oh, he speaks." Lucy rolls her eyes. She dabbed his bruised face with a towel. "Usually when I don't see my friend for a long time, I like to give them a gift. Something nice and thoughtful. Not beat them to the point where they are blue and purple all over," scolded Lucy. When she heard Gildarts snickered, she directed a glare towards him and poked his side. He let out a yelp. "Oh, don't worry. You're next," she whispered in a dark tone, causing both men to shiver, but for different reasons.

"Wendy, tend to Gildarts. I need to head to the herb shack to gather some more marigolds and mash them into a paste." Lucy wiped her hands on her apron. "I want to make sure I don't miss a spot." Lucy was about to head out the door, and suddenly she turned around, narrowing her eyes at the two men. "Behave!" With that, she left the room, heading to her herb shack, not realizing someone was following her.

"Well, she's a keeper," grinned Gildarts, pointing his thumb in Lucy's direction.

"Yeah. She is." Laxus let out a tiny small, staring in the direction headed. They were in the sick bay. The herb shack was further away.

"Laxus. Let me warn you. Acnologia is here. Keep an eye out," warned Gildarts. "You know how he is around blonde women. Make sure he's never alone with Lucy."

"Mint, mistletoe, mugwort- marigold! There you are," muttered Lucy under her breath as she searched the shelf for marigolds. Everything in her herb shack was alphabetized and labeled, so it would be easier to find. "I'll just mash them over there." Lucy was about to turn around and head out when she bumped into someone, almost dropping the jar in her hand. "H-hello. Do you need something?" It was the man from before with dark blue hair. One of the people who came with Gildarts. Maybe he was lost? Everyone in the clan knew not to come into the herb shack without consulting her or Wendy. Lucy had a bad feeling about this person because of the way he was looking at her. The hunger in his eyes caused her to shudder and not the good kind. She should hurry back to the sick day.

Acnologia let out a vile smile, inching closer to his prey. "I need you." She was even more exquisite up close. He was going to have so much fun with her and he will hurt Laxus in the process. Laxus always foiled his plans. The bandits he was trying to recruit for a rebellion were stopped by Laxus. Fortunately, it was not traced back to him, but he lost a lot of supplies.

Lucy let out a nervous laugh as she clutched the jar tighter in her hands, slowly creating distance between them. He was blocking the way to the exit. She would have to somehow go around with. Maybe he'll let her go. "Let me deal with my current patients first and then I can help you." Lucy tried to nudge by but Acnologia blocked her path by placing his arm on the shelf behind her. It caused Lucy to drop the jar, shattering upon impact.

"My condition is a bit more serious and requires immediate attention," grinned Acnologia when he saw Lucy's eyes dart all over the place, trying to find a way to escape. He grabbed her by the arms and threw her on the ground.

Laxus hissed when his leg bumped into a crate on his way over to the herb shack. When Gildarts told him that Acnologia was here, he had a bad feeling in his stomach. He had to see Lucy to see she was safe.

*bang

Laxus saw red when he opened the door and saw a shirtless Acnologia on top of a struggling Lucy. He marched over to the fucking snake, grabbing him by the neck with a force that would have killed a normal man and flung him across the room. Laxus helped Lucy up and covered her with his jacket, since the sleeves on her dress were tattered. "Go," he whispered. He didn't want Lucy to see what he was about to do with that motherfucker. Lucy has seen him fight a few times, but she barely scratched the surface of how violent Laxus could be.

Laxus cracked his knuckles just as Acnologia stood up on his two feet. Before even giving him a chance, Laxus barreled a range of punches on him until Gildarts pulled him off.

"Get out," growled Gildarts, throwing a glare towards Acnologia. "Never come back. Next time we see your face again, you will be killed in sight!" Gildarts wasn't about to let Laxus get in trouble with the Elders for killing Acnologia.

Gildarts left the two blondes alone in the herb shack, leaving them some privacy.

Two Months Later

Finally, Jarl Makarov and the rest of the clan arrived in Fiore. Another celebration was held to welcome the new arrivals. Laxus stepped down as temporary Jarl since his grandfather was here. To welcome his grandfather, the Jarls from the other clans as well as the Elders came in attendance to show their respect to Fairy Tail.

Laxus could care less about the council of Elders. They never saw eye to eye. He was going to try to avoid them as much as possible because he knew they were going to say something about Lucy.

Speaking of Lucy, Laxus could feel that they were getting closer. This wasn't a typical marriage and Laxus wondered how things would have gone between them if they met in a more conventional matter.

One thing that did worry Laxus about the Elder's visit was the lack of a child. He and Lucy still did not consummate their marriage because he respected Lucy. He wasn't about to force her to do something against her will, but with a child, everyone would shut up and leave them alone. His grandfather was getting older and since his father was banished from the clan, Laxus was the last in line to inherit the position. The Elders would say something was wrong with Lucy and that Laxus needed to sire a child with someone of Viking blood. They were already angry with him for marrying Lucy and for kicking Acnologia without consulting them but Gildarts backed him up.

Laxus would not hesitate to defend his decision of marrying Lucy and staying loyal to her, but right now he was going to avoid the Elders as much as possible, enjoying the feast with Lucy by his side.

Laxus smiled as he watched Lucy chattering with Mirajane when suddenly she dropped her spoon to the ground.

Lucy bent down to get the spoon. Just as she reached for it with her hand, Laxus's hand came out of nowhere and covered her hand with his, clasping them together. Lucy felt her face heat up at the intimate action. His touch was causing her body to grow warm.

Lucy tried to pull her hand free, but Laxus had a firm grip, placing their adjoined hands in his lap. He caressed her wrist with his thumb while eating his food and talking to the others without a care in the world.

"Laxus! My hand! Let go," muttered Lucy, low enough for only Laxus to hear, wiggling her hand out of his grasp. She put on a fake smile and nodded her head over something Mira said, even though she wasn't paying attention. No need to bring the spotlight on them.

Laxus clenched her hand tighter in response, causing her to blush furiously, giving her a smirk. "Is there something wrong, my dear? Your face is quite red," says Laxus in an innocent voice, but his eyes were filled with mischief. He loved teasing her. Lately, it has become a favorite pastime of his.

"Oh my. He's right. Is everything okay?" Mira asked in a concerned tone.

"Y-yes. I'm fine. The food was a little spicy." Lucy hastily explained, and managed to pull her hand away. She got up from her seat. "I'll get something to drink." Lucy went to get a cup and sat next to Mira, so Laxus didn't tease her anymore.

However, Laxus had other things in mind as he used his foot to caress Lucy's leg. His grin grew wider at Lucy's squirming.

When Mira wasn't paying attention, Lucy threw a stern look in Laxus's direction. She mouthed the words to stop it, but got a cocky smirk in response.

Laxus chuckled when she pouted with her cheeks puffed up. So cute, he thought. I want to bite them.

Lucy abruptly stood up and headed towards the balcony to get some fresh air to cool her flushed cheeks. Seriously. That man is like a child sometimes, she thought. Lucy had to admit she wasn't expecting to get along this well with Laxus. He was a great husband and a great person who deeply cares about his people. The more time she spends with him, the more her feelings for him grow. She wondered if Laxus felt the same way, but a tiny part of her says that he's only doing this to honor the agreement. Otherwise, they would have consummated their marriage by now.

Lucy placed her hands on the banister and took a deep breath, slightly shivering due to the cool air. She was probably just overthinking everything again.

"What are you thinking about," a deep voice came from behind her. She was about to turn about to greet them when something warm engulfed her. Laxus placed his coat on her shoulders and then placed his hands over hers on the banister, effectively trapping her.

Avoiding Laxus's gaze, Lucy glanced up at the sky, her breathing a little heavy at their close proximity. "Just admiring the stars tonight. The sky looks so clear and beautiful."

Lucy drew another sharp breath and stood still when Laxus nuzzled his nose against her hair. "The stars aren't the only beautiful thing tonight." Laxus murmured against her hair, breathing her sweet scent in. Lucy looked beautiful every day but today she looked absolutely ravishing in her blue gown.

"I-is that so?" Lucy squeaked when Laxus started nuzzling his nose against her neck. "Laxus!" She nearly jumped in place when Laxus placed tiny kisses on her neck.

"Just say the word and I'll stop," whispered Laxus as he spent extra attention on that one spot on her neck he noticed was sensitive as her squirming increased. He smirked against her skin when she let out a tiny cry, continuing to suck harshly on her skin.

Laxus was about to continue to tease Lucy when Minerva popped up. "Laxus, your grandfather and the Elders are requesting your presence. They want to commend you for doing a great job with the settlement." She was from the Sabertooth Clan and her father was one of the Elders. He didn't like her one bit. Minerva was working for her father and was constantly trying to find ways to find fault, with Laxus as the heir. He suspected her father wanted the Jarl title for himself or to use Minerva to get with him and have a child. She constantly tried to seduce him, but Laxus rarely had interest in her because he knows he can't trust her. Besides, he wasn't that man anymore, and he has Lucy by his side.

Lucy shot Laxus a worried look when she saw his face grimace. Laxus told her many times how much he hated some of the Elders and the unrealistic expectations they would set on him. Elders like Jose, Brain, and Jiemma constantly try for the Jarl position that was in the Dreyar family for generations.

Dammit, thought Laxus, slowly loosening his grip around Lucy. Out of all times, they had to interrupt me wooing my wife! Laxus thought he had a chance, considering Lucy wasn't resisting. They just had to ruin the mood. He let out a tired sigh. Might as well deal with them now rather than later. Laxus looked deeply into Lucy's eyes, cradling her face in his hands as he kissed her forehead. "I'll be back. Wait for me back in our room."

Lucy nodded with flushed cheeks, wrapping the coat closer around her body as she watched Laxus leave the balcony. This left her with this newcomer.

Lucy was about to head back to the banquet when the newcomer's voice stopped her. "Don't think too much of what he said or did. It's only temporary." Minerva stared at her nails without a care in the world. "He does that to all the girls."

Lucy's heart dropped at this. "What?"

"I'm surprised you lasted this long. Usually Laxus loses interest in girls quickly. He just fucks them and moves on. Unless…" Minerva's lips curved into an evil smile. "He hasn't touched you." Lucy's flinch and silence confirmed her suspicions. "Either he doesn't find you attractive since you're an outsider or he doesn't want to lose his birthright if he goes against his word." Minerva walked up to give Lucy a comforting pat. "The Elders want a child from him. If you can't deliver the goods…" She leaned in closer to whisper the last part. "... someone else well." With that, she left Lucy shaking.

Lucy found it hard to breathe. She had to get out of here. Lucy rushed out of the balcony and headed to the room she shared with Laxus.

Laxus found himself standing in the clan chambers at the center of the room with his grandfather in front and leaders of the other clans sitting down as well. It felt like he was about to get interrogated, which was probably true.

"Laxus, my boy! I can't be any more proud of what you have accomplished these last few months." Makarov raised his glass in the air for a toast and gulped it down. "As expected of my heir and clans next Jarl. Here, here!" Makarov cheered, with the others following suit. Well, most of them.

"Speaking of heirs," a gruff voice piped up. "Who will be next in line to inherit Fairy Tail?"

"What do you mean, Brain?" Makarov asked in a confused tone. "Laxus is my grandson and as his birthright, he is my heir."

"We understand that, Jarl Makarov," a snakey voice continued. "But who will inherit the clan when Laxus becomes Jarl? He's been married for a few months now and has no child." Jose let out a not so innocent smile.

"My sex life is none of your business," snarled Laxus, clenching his fists to his side. "By God's will, one day we will be blessed with a healthy child."

"And one day you shall," interjected Brain. "But one has to wonder. You basically married a stranger. You know nothing about her. It's been months since you've wedded. Maybe there is something you don't know about her?"

"What's that supposed to mean," snarled Laxus, his nostrils flaring in anger. Brain couldn't be insinuating that Lucy was barren, and that was the reason for the lack of an heir. "Lucy's just fine! I know plenty about her and she's perfectly fine!"

"You can still have the girl as your wife. We were all young once. Infatuated with a pretty little lass. Just take on a concubine and fulfill your clan duties," suggested Jiemma. "My daughter, Minerva will be happy to take on that role and birth the new heir."

"You can keep your whore daughter! Listen loud and clear," declared Laxus, staring at all the Elders. "I am not taking any concubines, so don't get any ideas. I only want Lucy!" With that comment, he stormed out of the room, heading to his room to cool off.

When Laxus entered the room he shared with Lucy, he noticed her wearing her nightgown and robe. Her hair was out in waves and she was standing by the window, looking at the stars. He thought she would have been asleep by now since it was late and Lucy was running around all day to help out.

"I thought you were already asleep," commented Laxus as he sat on the bed to take off his coat and boots.

"I couldn't sleep," replied Lucy, still not looking at Laxus. She was still upset from Minerva's words. "Too much on my mind."

"What are you thinking about?"

"Us."

"What about us?" Laxus was confused. He thought things were great between them.

"You haven't touched me once since we've wedded." Lucy blinked back the tears that threatened to run down her face. Minerva was right. What the hell was she thinking? He didn't find her attractive at all. Everything he did was just for the sake of appearances, so his grandfather didn't take away his birthright. "I know that this was a marriage of convenience. To help our people, and yet I can't help but care for you and wish for something more. Stop giving me false hope." The kinder he was to her, the harder she fell for him, and this one-sided love was getting too painful for her.

"Lucy." Laxus called her gently, but she made no movement before continuing to stare at the window. "Lucy, look at me," he demanded, getting frustrated when she refused. He wasn't good with words, so he tried to show his affection by following Freed's advice through gifts and compliments, but it seems the message wasn't getting through. He was going to show Lucy he cared about her using his way through actions and honesty.

Laxus marched over to where Lucy was sitting and grabbed her arm, pulling her against him in a tight embrace. She immediately tried to fight out of his grip, using her tiny fists to beat against his chest. "Let go of me, you omph..." Laxus interrupted her by slamming his lips against hers. He bit her lips harshly, causing her to gasp, and used that opportunity to thrust his tongue inside her mouth. He poured all his feelings for her into that kiss, and he could feel Lucy succumbing to the kiss as her punches became weaker and weaker. He wrapped his arms around her tiny waist. Lucy sank into the kiss, mimicking his movements, and wrapped her arms around his neck, getting weak in the knees.

When the kiss finished, both were panting heavily at the intensity of the kiss. Laxus felt especially proud of the beautiful flush on Lucy's face and her bruised lips. He placed his forehead against hers and looked deeply into her pretty doe brown eyes. "I love you," he whispered, looking at her full of love and adoration. He cradles her face in his hands and kisses her again. "I love you," he repeats, gently caressing her cheeks with his thumbs, kissing her forehead and her eyelids.

Lucy couldn't believe it. He loved her. He loved her back. She cups Laxus's face and kisses him gently. "I love you too, Laxus." Her heart never felt so full of happiness before. She stared into his stormy blue eyes. "Make me feel like your bride," she whispered. She wanted to consummate their marriage. She wanted him to make love to her.

Laxus swept Lucy off her feet and into his arms, bridal carry, walking slowly towards their bed, maintaining eye contact with her the whole time. He didn't want to miss one moment, one reaction as he showed his wife what she means to him. He knew this was her first time, so he will be patient and gentle with her. He gently laid her on the bed and climbed on top of her.

Laxus kisses her again, causing Lucy to let out a sweet sigh. She parted her lips to welcome his tongue in, dominating her mouth, and mimicked his movements using her own.

They kiss each other again and again as they slowly peel the clothes off their body, revealing their bare bodies.

Laxus's lips trail down her neck, lightly sucking her collarbones and breasts. He smirked against her soft skin as she let out a breathy moan.

"Ah…! Laxus…!" Lucy tried to cover her mouth to prevent the embarrassing sounds from escaping her mouth, but Laxus wasn't having it. He pinned her arms over her head. "Don't. I want to hear it all. I want to see everything as I make you lose yourself in pleasure."

They continue to explore each other more, caressing their bodies, causing their bodies to grow hotter.

Laxus readies himself at her entrance. He looks Lucy in the eyes. "... Ready," he whispers in a low tone.

The tone of his voice, which differed from his normal one, caused her heart to beat faster. "... Yes," Lucy whispered back. "I want you, Laxus." Her heart welling with anticipation.

Laxus gently eases in, groaning at how tight she was, slowly moving until he feels a barrier. Knowing what is going to come, he pushes Lucy's bangs out of her face, kissing her on the forehead. He peers into her eyes muttering, "I'm sorry," and with one thrust breaks her barrier. He felt Lucy tear up, so he distracted Lucy from the pain by pressing kisses over her eyelids, her cheeks, her nose. "Don't tense up, relax."

Lucy's eyes narrow in affection at Laxus's gentle touches. She knew he was trying to calm her down because she was nervous. She takes a deep breath and waits for the pain to subside, feeling pleasure took over. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she gives him a kiss. "You can move now."

Laxus slowly moved inside, stroking Lucy's hair with each thrust. She felt so damn good. He was using every ounce of his self-control to not take her like a dog in heat. Pressing deep, Laxus lets out a passionate sigh. "You're so beautiful. So damn beautiful."

"Ah… Mmn…" Lucy craved more as deep waves of pleasure washed over her. She knew Laxus was trying to be considerate towards her since it was her first time, but she wanted him to enjoy himself as well. "Faster," she pants, hugging Laxus tighter. "I want more." She wanted him to take her to new heights, craving more and more from him.

Laxus picked up the pace. The sounds of their grunts and moans echoing through the room. He changed angles and hit her in a particular spot that caused her to throw her head back as she moaned, revealing her creamy white neck. The sight of her in ecstasy brought him great satisfaction, as he covered her body in love bites. He gave into his desires and made love to his wife, making up for lost time. Pushing her over the edge, getting drunk over her body as she clings tight with each cry.

A few hours later

The two blondes were lying naked, with only a blanket covering up their nether regions. Laxus ran his fingers through Lucy's silky golden locks with one hand and stroked her lower back with the other, placing his chin over the top of her head.

Lucy was tucked against Laxus's side, putting her head on his chest with her ear pressed against his heart as she listened to the soothing sounds of his heartbeat, caressing the different battle scars adorned on his body. She stroked one scar underneath his tattoo. "Where did you get this one?"

"I got that from my father when he tried to teach me how to use a sword. Let's just say it didn't go that well. I almost died that day," he replied. He felt something soft against said scar and looked over to see Lucy kiss it.

"And this one?" Lucy moved to another scar.

"Clan raid."

Chu. Lucy placed another kiss on his scar. That's how the rest of their night went. Him telling stories about his scars and Lucy giving loving kisses to each of them. It made the memories of some of them less painful for him because now he had someone that cares about him.

Freed let out a yawn as he fought to keep his eyes open during breakfast. He has not been getting enough sleep and his best friend is the one to blame.

Ever since Laxus's outburst and declaration in front of his leader and the elders, Laxus has been taking Lucy to his bed every night for the last few weeks. Their late-night activities prevented Freed from getting a good night's sleep since his room was close to theirs. It wasn't the sex that was keeping him up; it was the conversation happening while they were having sex. The stuff Laxus and Lucy would say would even make a pirate blush. He expected that from Laxus, but not from Lucy.

It's always the quiet ones who are the freakiest, thought Freed. That wasn't even the worst part. When Freed would come to fetch Laxus in the morning, he would still hear them going at it. Freed tried to complain and suggested for him to give Lucy a break.

All he got in response was a door slammed shut in his face and a growl. As he walked away, he heard Laxus yell, "Leave me alone! I'm trying to fuck my wife!" After that declaration, he waited for Laxus to meet him in the meeting room. At least he showed up on time and fully clothed.

Freed came to report that Jarl Bob needed help fighting against the Oracion Seis, who were trying to take over their land. The expedition to Clan Blue Pegasus and back, including the battle, would take a month, max two. Freed wasn't sure if Laxus was willing to leave Lucy that long, especially considering how affectionate and attached he is to her. But Jarl Bob was a dear friend of Jarl Makarov and a close ally of Clan Fairy Tail.

As expected, Laxus did protest at first but eventually agreed after Jarl Makarov reminded Laxus that Jarl Bob helped them a lot in the beginning and it was time to return the favor. At least if it took a month, Laxus and the group of men he took with him would be back before or on the day a birthday celebration was taking place for the Jarl of Fairy Tail.

One Month Later

"Laxus!" Lucy greeted with a smile when she saw Laxus show up in their bedroom, running towards him and jumping in his arms. "I missed you," she whispered, giving a peck on his lips, ignoring his dirty appearance. Apparently, Laxus came straight here after the battle, not even bothering to clean himself up.

"I missed you too, ástin mín," he whispered back, nuzzling her nose and pecking her back. Lucy liked it when he used Old Norse, so he would use it now and then, teaching her a few words along the way. Most bothered not to learn it because English was used more frequently, but his grandfather taught him at a young age and enjoyed learning it. He felt more connected to his roots and ancestors. And apparently, it got Lucy off when he would speak Old Norse during their romping sessions.

Speaking of romping, Laxus's hand slid down Lucy's back and was about to caress her bottom when Lucy swatted his back away. He pouted. "Come on. I haven't seen you for a month." Seeing her in his tunic really got his loins heated.

"We can't Laxus," scolded Lucy. "Today is your grandfather's birthday. You need to clean, and I need to get dressed. We can't be late." Lucy pulled out two dresses from her closet and showed them to Laxus. "Which one should I wear?"

"I'd prefer you to wear nothing right now." Laxus gave Lucy a perverted grin, ducking when she threw a pillow at him. "Fine. Fine. I'll get dressed," he grumbled, heading to the washroom with his clothes.

Laxus was wiping his hair with a towel when he walked back into his bedroom, when the sight in front of him caused him to stop in his tracks. "S-stjarna," he whispered shakily, slowly walking towards Lucy who was wearing a tight-fitted dress. A dress that showed something that was not there the last time he saw his wife.

"What do you think," asked Lucy, caressing her bump with a smile. "Is this an adequate present for the Jarl?" She found out a few days after Laxus left for battle. Despite being a doctor, she failed to recognize the symptoms of pregnancy until Wendy pointed out it wasn't the stomach flu and her period was late. She is estimated to be about 4 months along.

Laxus walked up to Lucy and lifted her in the air in happiness. Then he remembered her condition and sat them on the bed. "Of course. Nothing can beat this. Thank you so much." Laxus always craved to make his family bigger and now that dream was coming true.

Lucy answers with a smile and Laxus pulls her into his lap, wrapping his arms around her baby bump.
