"What the hell just happened?" Cristina just yelled out in the hallway to Dr Webber.

"I think it was just a febrile seizure from her fever but her labs will confirm that. Dr Bailey will get the results from the lab when they're ready. It's possible she has an infection. If so, we need to get a handle on it immediately before it weakens her body anymore." Dr Webber says.

"I'm leaving. Someone tell Meredith goodbye for me." Ellis says calmly. "I have a vip patient coming in to see me in the morning. I need to go get ready for that."

"Do you even care what's happened to Meredith? She is your daughter after all!" Crisitna yells at Ellis, who's getting her things together to leave.

"I'm sorry. I can't do this. I need to leave. She'll be fine without me." Ellis said with a neutral facial expression, not seeming to care that her only child is on the brink of death.

"Ellis-" Richard tried to stop her from leaving but Ellis shook her head and quickly walked away.

"Screw her. And to think I looked up to that woman when I was in med school." Cristina shook her head angrily. "Her only daughter is barely hanging onto life and she just walks away. Not that I expect anything else from her but still."

Just then Dr Bailey walks out of Meredith's hospital room pushing Meredith's gurney with her tiny figure in it. Meredith has an oxygen mask covering her face. "I'm taking her for a few scans just to be safe."

Crisitna looks at Meredith's tiny body sound asleep on the gurney. "You need to figure out how to make her better. She can't take this much longer. Her body is going to give out soon if you don't get a handle on her cancer!"

"We are doing everything we can. You know that Yang. None of us want to lose her." Bailey said firmly. "I need to take her for scans now."

Cristina nods.

———-

Bailey along with a nurse gets Meredith situated in the machine. "Come on Grey. Don't get sicker on us now. We need you." Bailey said softly holding Meredith's foot as a form of comfort even though the girl is unconscious. "Don't leave us."

"Are you ready Dr Bailey?" The nurse calls out across the room.

"Yes, one moment!" Dr Bailey calls out. "You just keep on fighting and so will we. I don't promise good outcomes to patients but to you I will. We will get rid of this cancer, you just need to hang in there and keep fighting for us. I know it's hard." Dr Bailey quickly brushed away a tear.

She takes her hand off of Meredith's foot and presses the button to start the scan. She then goes back to the desk to wait for the results to come back.

———-

A few hours later Dr Bailey walks into Meredith's hospital room. She sees Meredith still sleeping. Derek and Cristina are in the room with her. Crisitna is practicing sutures on a banana. Derek is attempting to read a medical journal but keeps glancing over at Meredith and her stats every two seconds.

"She still sleeping?" Dr Bailey asks quietly.

Derek nods in response. "Do you have her results?"

Bailey nods. "It's an infection. I'm going to start her on strong antibiotics and that should knock the infection out of her system." She goes over and connects the bag of antibiotics to Meredith's IV and then hangs the bag up.

Just then Meredith stirs in her sleep. She moans softly in her sleep.

"I think she's waking up." Crisitna says.

"Mer? You awake sweetie?" Derek asks, leaning forwards in his chair.

Meredith moans a little bit more and then slowly opens her eyes.

"Welcome back Grey. You had us scared." Dr Bailey says smiling. "You have an infection but these antibiotics should help get rid of it."

Meredith slowly nods and scans the room sleepily. "Where's… my mom?" She whispers.

"She left, Mer. I'm sorry." Derek says, holding her hand. "Your hand is freezing Mer!"

"It's fine." She whispers. "And I'm always freezing."

"Do you want some more blankets Grey?" Bailey asks.

Meredith nods, her eyes closing again but reopens them.

Dr Bailey sticks her head into the hall and requests some more blankets. A nurse brings a few blankets and hands them to Bailey. Bailey them hands them to Derek, who proceeds to pile them up on top of Meredith.

"That better?" Derek asks, smiling at Meredith.

"Yeah." Meredith whispers.

"How's your head Mer?" Cristina asks.

"It's a little better." Meredith says softly. "I wanna go home." Meredith says all of a sudden.

"Oh sweetie. It's not safe for you at home. You need to stay here." Dr Bailey says. "You're immune system is way too weak. We need to keep you here until we get the cancer under control."

"It's not fair! I don't want to be sick! Why me???" Meredith cries out. "I want to be doing my internship and instead I'm stuck here as a patient instead! Can't you just do a bone marrow transplant?"

Dr Bailey sighs. "Mer, we've discussed how we don't think this will work in your situation. There's only a 20% chance of it working and you getting to remission. That's too little odds to play with. With your CNS involvement, there's a much greater chance of the transplant failing and you not making it."(Making this up! Not medically accurate!

"Please! Just try! I don't want to be stuck in this hospital! I could still die anyways even without the transplant! Please just try anyways! I'll sign whatever form I have to! Just please, I can't live like this!" Meredith said with tears streaming down her face.

Derek's face is pale during this entire conversation. "Mer… I don't like this. There's too much of a risk of it failing and you dying!"

"Please, just let me do this! I can't live like this anymore! If I'm part of the 20% that dies, fine! But I could be a part of the 80% that lives! Just give me that chance! Please!" Meredith cries.

"Okay. You can have that chance." Derek says with tears running down his face at the thought of Meredith not surviving.

"Mer. Are you sure about this? I need my person." Cristina asks.

"Yes! And if I survive you'll have your person forever. I just need to do this. I can do this. I can survive. I'll be fine. I won't be part of the 20% that dies. I'll be fine." Meredith says.
