Chapter Fifteen: After the Tournament
All the Pokémon herds had moved from the arena and back to the shores of the lake. A few Pokémon broke away from their herds to go and mingle while a majority helped themselves to the water. Everyone from Drudd's herd was able to find a spot and enjoyed the refreshing liquid. Even Blitz, his friends and family were starting to enjoy some of the water when Blitz heard some yelling coming from behind. Rising up from the shore, he walked over to where he could hear the voices. He came around a tree to see both Stag and Blaze confronting Barry. Blaze angrily question, "How could you just throw the match like that?"
"It wasn't just me." Barry defended himself. He crossed his arms when he reminded, "Me and Blitz decided to end it in a tie. We both wanted to let everyone have a shot at the water."
"In this herd, we fight to win." Stag growled with narrowed eyes. Barry scoffed, "Maybe you guys fight that way, but not me."
"Maybe you're just to big of a wuss to be a part of this herd." Blaze commented and shook his head. It was starting to make Barry mad when he shot back, "Then maybe I don't want to be a part of this herd anymore!"
"Fine then." Stag shrugged and he walked off. Blaze looked to the Machoke with a sneer before walking after his herd leader. Barry scoffed again and turned away from the two. It was then that he noticed Blitz standing there. The Superpower Pokémon seemed a little embarrassed when he asked, "I take it you heard all that, huh?"
"Yeah, and I didn't mean to eavesdrop on you. Sorry." Blitz offered the apology. Barry shrugged, "Eh, not that much of a secret when people are yelling at one another.
"I just don't know where I'm going to go after this." Barry shook his head, feeling a little lost. Blitz thought about it before suggesting, "Maybe if I were talk to Drudd, the head of our Pokémon herd, perhaps you can travel with us."
"Really?" Barry asked, becoming a little hopeful. Blitz nodded and said, "Yeah. The worst he could do is say no."
"That's true." Barry agreed with a nod. He noticed that Blitz was rotating his shoulders and asked, "Still feeling a little sore after the tournament?"
"Kind of, yeah." The Charizard nodded. The Flame Pokémon made a sick looking face when he said, "I know that those berries were supposed to help and all but-"
"Eh, sometimes a berry just won't cut it." Barry chuckled. An idea seemed to come to him and he said, "But there's a spot here not too far from the oasis. It's a hot spring. I heard that it helps one to relax and I saw a few of the other contestants heading over that way, except the Barbaracle."
"Makes sense since he didn't actually fight." Blitz shrugged. Pointing back to the lake he said, "I should at least let my uncle Brock know. I think he could use it just as much as us."
Blitz turned and walked off to let his uncle know.

In another part of the oasis, Drudd and Tar were walking side by side on their way to the hot springs. Even though any words were spoken between them, the Tyranitar knew that there was something on the Druddigon's mind. Looking to his friend he said, "All right out with it."
"I don't see why you lost to the Machoke. You had more strength and experience than him." Drudd shook his head. Tar sighed and said, "He was able to get the drop on me. And it all worked out anyway." He chuckled when he added, "Plus, I'm a little put off when that kid was able to pull off that Mega Evolution."
"You have one of your own." Drudd argued with a glare. Tar was surprised from Drudd's attitude and said, "Just let it go. We have a chance at the water and we'll be able to let the herd rest."
"And yet, I have a feeling that it might not be the best place to stay for too long." Drudd said as they kept walking. Looking to Tar he said, "Before sunset, I want you to take a scout and check the perimeters of this place. No doubt that the other Pokémon herd leaders are doing the same."
"Fine." Tar sighed as they continued walking.

After letting his uncle know about the hot springs, they made their way over and saw the other contestants already enjoying themselves. There were even a few other Pokémon there as well. There was a large wall of bamboo splitting between the hot springs. Blitz looked between the two sides of the wall and asked, "So, I'm guessing that there's a boy and girls side."
"Mmhmm." Barry nodded. Then he added, "There's also a couples section."
"Ooh, a couples section?" Brock asked, becoming excited. The two taller Pokémon looked to the Mouse Pokémon with odd looks as he said, "Uh, I'll see you guys later. I'm gonna go see if there's a poor, lonely girl out there who needs some company."
"Oh, Brock." Blitz shook his head, but couldn't stop the Electric Type from taking off. Barry looked to Blitz and said, "You're uncle is a little odd. No offense."
"He's just like that sometimes." Blitz shook his head. He watched the running Pikachu and said, "He didn't have the best of luck with other Mouse Pokémon in the clan back on the island."
"Oh. Poor guy." Barry said and crossed his arms. He shrugged when he said, "He could get lucky and find that one girl in there."
"I'm more worried about him either stumbling or sneaking into the girl's side." Blitz admitted. The Machoke's arms fell again when he realized that the Charizard could be right. He sighed before motioning for Blitz to follow, "Come on. Before all the best spots are taken."
Blitz followed after Barry and came to an open pool of water close to the bamboo wall. Steam calmly lifted from the water and Barry tested the water with a toe before nodding. Looking to Blitz he said, "The temperature's just right."
"I don't know." The Charizard nervously looked at the water. The Machoke instantly knew what was making his friend nervous and said, "Hey, don't worry about the water. Though water is mostly a weakness for Fire Types, I've heard that a hot spring can be very good for them."
"Really?" Blitz asked. Barry nodded and said, "Yeah. Plus, it'll help you feel more relaxed."
"I guess it'll be okay." Blitz consented and decided to give it a go. Barry entered the steamy water first and sighed in relief when he sat down. Moving to the other side, Blitz did what Barry did and tested the water with his toe claw. The hot water did feel good to Blitz as he carefully stepped into the water. Making sure to keep his flame above the water's surface, he sat down and began to feel the hot water working its magic. He set his arms on the side of the pool and began to relax.
"So, where exactly are you and your family from again?" Barry asked, making Blitz look over to him. The thought of the island made him feel sad, considering all the good friends who hadn't made it that day. He started thinking of the good times when he said, "Well, while my family told me that I had come across the ocean from the mainland, we had lived on an island for a good while."
"What made you leave?" Barry asked, noticing the frown appear on his friend's face. Blitz shook his head when he asked, "Do you know about the flaming rocks that fell from the sky?"
"Though while my 'former herd' and I were a good distance from where it landed, we did see them come down." Barry remembered that night. He started to put the pieces together and asked, "Wait, was your island…?"
"Yeah." Blitz nodded and his eyes started to water from the memory. He shook his head to clear his head. Barry began to feel bad about asking and said, "I'm so sorry, Blitz."
"It was horrible when it happened. But I like to think that some of the island survived through the five us." Blitz said with a happy thought. Barry nodded that it sounded pretty wise to him.
They both jumped in fright when they heard a sudden shriek coming from the other side of the bamboo wall. They looked to the top of the stalks and heard some Pokémon shout, "Ah! There's a rat in here! What are you doing here, this is the girl's side?!"
"Sorry! Sorry!" They heard Brock shout and it made the two Pokémon sweat drop. They cringed when they heard one of the girls shout, "Get out!"
A loud boom shook the hot springs and they heard Brock shout. The Mouse Pokémon screamed as he was sent flying over the top of bamboo wall and landed directly into their pool of water. Barry ad Blitz shielded themselves when Brock landed in the water with a big splash. The two then looked to the spot when Brock came back up with a gasp. Giving his uncle a questioning look, Blitz asked, "Do we even want to know?"
"I stumbled into the girl's side." Brock sheepishly said and rubbed the back of his neck. Blitz gave his uncle a skeptical look and the Electric Type wildly flailed his arms up and down as he defended himself, "Hey, I did. I don't know where the couple's section is. I've never been to this place before."
His outburst made both Blitz and Barry laugh a little. Seeing that his uncle was looking a little unhappy of not being able to find some romance at the hot springs, Blitz felt a little sorry for him.
"Well, you can chill here with us." Blitz offered his uncle. With a sigh, Brock swam to the side, "Yeah, I guess that could work."
He reached the side and turned to press his back against the stone side of the pool. Brock looked over to Barry and asked, "Do you happen to have your eye on a special lady?"
"No, not yet." Barry shook his head. He leaned his head back and said, "But I do know that she's out there."
"I feel the same way." Brock said as he made himself comfortable. But when he turned his head, the Pikachu seemed to notice something, "Hey, isn't that Dragara over there."
"Huh?" Blitz asked and looked to where he was looking. Brock looked to his adopted nephew and commented with a smirk, "Look a little quicker why don't you."
But as it turns out, there was no one there at all. Blitz gave his uncle an annoyed look. Brock and Barry laughed from his reaction and the former said, "I'm mostly just messing with you, kid."
"But it looks like that you really like her." Barry noted with a grin. Blitz's scales darkened from his blush and he stammered, "I-I-"
"Look, why don't you just go and talk to her." Brock suggested with a shrug. This made Blitz send his adopted uncle a look and he said, "I would, but I think that she'd still be pretty sore at me when you tried to help me."
His adopted nephew's look made the Pikachu laugh nervously.
"Huh?" Barry asked, not following. The Charizard looked to the Machoke and nodded to the Pikachu, "The love Pokémon here tried to help me with Dragara before we crossed the desert. But apparently, his help was to make all sorts of embarrassing noises and she ended up thinking that I was a jerk-mon."
"Woof." Barry winced from that. But as Blitz thought about it, he knew that he should at least try to talk to her and try to clear things up. But at the moment he just wanted to sit and relax in the hot spring. Barry leaned to the Charizard and said, "Hey, with any luck, she'll be able to see you for who you really are."
"Hopefully." Blitz nodded and had to wait and see the next time he saw her. Brock waved off and said, "Aw, come on. What's the worst she could do."
"With any luck, she at least won't throw him over the bamboo wall." Barry teased the Pikachu. That caused Brock to growl at the Superpower Pokémon with an annoyed look. Suddenly a familiar voice to Brock called out, "Oh, Brock!"
"Gah!" The Pikachu comically cried out and he took a deep breath before submerging into the hot spring. His actions just made Barry and Blitz laugh a little before enjoying the hot springs again.

Elsewhere…
Tar and a Marowak from Drudd's Pokémon herd were walking side by side away from the lake. Tar had decided that he didn't want a trip to the hot springs at the moment and would take some time to himself when he got back. The Marowak spun the bone in his hand before asking, "So, why are we going on patrol? I highly doubt that any predator Pokémon would be stupid enough to attack five herds worth."
"It's just a safety precaution." Tar said as they continued walking. They noticed Blaze the Incineroar and a few other Pokémon out on patrol as well. Gesturing to them, the Tyranitar said, "See, even they know that it's better to be safe than sorry."
"Hmm." The Marowak just shrugged his shoulders.

Blitz, Barry and Brock had all left the hot springs when they felt like they had had enough. They came upon the Charizard and Pikachu's friends and family. When the six turned to face them, they noticed the Machoke with them. Wrapping a wing around Barry, Blitz said, "Me and Barry here need to go and talk with Drudd about something. We'll be right back."
"Uh, okay." Sam said and the two walked off. When they were gone, Sam looked to his son and asked, "So, what's going on?"
"I think that Barry had gotten kicked out of his Pokémon herd and is now going to ask Drudd if he can join ours." Brock informed. Bonnie smiled and said, "I hope so. Barry seems awfully nice."
"He was a very good sport during the tournament." Cynthia added. Donna nodded and said, "He sure knows how to bring a punch to the fight."
"Well, I do think that Blitz was very good as well." Aurora threw in. Sam said, "I didn't even know that the boy could that 'Mega' thing during the fight with the Incineroar."
"I'm just glad that he hadn't lost control of himself when he did." Donna said with a relieved look. Cynthia looked to the Bastiodon and asked, "What do you mean?"
"Well, not that our boy Blitz would be the kind to be like that, but Mega forms can be very difficult to control." Donna explained.
Barry and Blitz were walking when they came upon Drudd speaking to a few other Pokémon. They seemed to be wrapping up when Drudd nodded to something and turned away from them. When he turned to them, the Druddigon saw them and asked, "Now, what can I help you with?"
"Uh, Barry here was kicked out of his Pokémon herd for what happened." Blitz quickly explained. Then he asked, "And we were hoping that it would be okay for him to join ours."
"Hmm." Drudd said and looked as if he were thinking about it. He looked to them and said, "Give me until tomorrow to think about it. We're leaving out then."
"Okay." Barry said, still feeling hopeful. Drudd then walked off and left them alone. Blitz looked to Barry and said, "Well, if anything, you're more than welcome to sleep amongst me and my friends."
"Thanks." Barry said and lightly punched the Charizard's shoulder. The two laughed as they made their way back.

The two patrolling Pokémon soon came to a rocky area just outside the oasis. They carefully walked around some rock formations for a few hours and the sun was starting to set and the shadows were starting to creep up on them. The Marowak looked to the Tyranitar and said, "Tar, we've been out here for hours and we haven't seen anything by now." He shook his head as he believed, "Face it, there's nothing out here.
"How about we get back to the oasis." He suggested. Tar gave another look around the place before deciding to call it a night. The sound of a rock tumbling made them both alert. The Marowak held his bone at the ready to use Bone Rush on whatever it was. Tar ripped up some large chunks of rocks from a rock formation to use Rock Throw.
A shape jumped down from some rocks and shouted, "Boo!"
It made the two jump a little and the Pokémon in question started laughing. They glared when they saw that it was the Incineroar from the tournament when he stepped into the fading light. Tar dropped the rocks in his hands and questioned, "Just what is wrong with you? We could have seriously just hurt you had we attacked."
"We could still do it." The Marowak shrugged. Blaze scoffed when he said, "Please, I could dodge the two of you easily."
"What are you doing here, Blaze?" Tar questioned and folded his arms across his chest. Then he pointed out, "Aren't you supposed to go and patrol in another section?"
"Eh, I was. But when I didn't see anything, I decided to come over and mess with you a little." Blaze snickered when he thought about scaring them. Tar growled and said, "I really should finish what that kid started and really smack you around."
"Gee, why?" Blaze asked, a little confused. Then he seemed to smile again when he said, "Oh, is it because I hurt some of your friends in the tournament?"
He started laughing out loud when a new sound came to them. The sound of low growling. A new scent came to the Tyranitar and he took in a big whiff. He knew that whatever was in here with them wasn't friendly in the slightest. Looking to the two, Tar said, "I think we need to go right now."
"Why, what's the hurry?" Blaze questioned, not really buying into Tar's worry. Tar looked to him and said, "This isn't a game. We need to go, now."
"And do what?" The Incineroar questioned when something moved in the shadows behind him. Tar and the Marowak became instantly afraid when they saw it towering over the Incineroar. When he could see actual fear in their eyes, Blaze's bravado fell when he asked, "There's something really bad behind me, isn't there?"
He never got his answer when a large set of jaws suddenly emerged from the darkness and clamped down on his shoulder. Blaze cried out in pain before crying out in fear when he was yanked back into the shadows. Tar turned to the Marowak and said, "Move, run!"
"But what about-" The Marowak started to say when a roar made them look in another direction. The other Tyrantrum stepped from its hiding spot and charged at them. With a stomp of his foot, Tar quickly created an Earthquake that created a fissure between them and the predator Pokémon. The Tyrantrum had stopped running and it drew the other's attention from the shadows.
Pushing his comrade to get moving, Tar shouted at him, "GO!"
Not needing to be told twice, the Marowak and the Tyranitar both took off running. The two Tyrantrums watched them go before looking to each other with dark grins.
Elsewhere in the maze, Tar and the Marowak came to a stop to catch their breath. Tar glanced around at all the openings and thought the two Despot Pokémon could come at them from any direction. Tar looked down at the Marowak and said, "We need to get back and warn the herds."
"Yeah, but-" The Marowak started to say when he looked out into the maze of rocks, "I think we got a little turned around in here."
"Knew I should have brought more Pokémon with us." The Armor Pokémon shook his head. The Marowak looked up to him and asked, "What do we do?"
"We need to stick together if we want to get out of this." Tar said when he glanced to the smaller Pokémon. But they were caught off guard when one of the Tyrantrum's suddenly came out of nowhere and Tackled right into Tar. The two dinosaur like Pokémon went tumbling along the ground. The Marowak moved to try and help him when he was swatted to the side by a Tail Whip attack. He hit the wall with a grunt before falling to the ground. The Marowak shakily tried to pick himself back up when the second Tyrantrum stomped over to him. The Bone Keeper Pokémon became very nervous when the bigger Pokémon reared its head back before coming down for a Head Smash. The Marowak quickly rolled out of the way and the Tyrantrum's head ended up smashing against the ground.
Tar was too busy trying to keep his Tyrantrum from Crunching on him by keeping its head back. Quickly building up his power, Tar unleashed Dark Pulse and it sent the bigger Pokémon flying off him. The Armor Pokémon was quick to rise back onto his feet and fired his Hyper Beam attack. The blast ended up hitting it in the side and knocking the Tyrantrum back and on the ground for a moment. Tar turned and moved to try and help his friend when he saw his opponent getting back up. The Tyrantrum charged for him and its claws glowed for a Dragon Claw strike. Tar was quick to apply Iron Defense to try and save himself from being beheaded by the claws. He grunted from the strong blow and it sent him sliding back a little. Building up his power again, the Tyranitar prepared another Hyper Beam attack. But he wasn't able to fire it in time when the Tyrantrum came rushing in with Head Smash. The blow knocked the wind out of the Tyranitar's chest and his attack faded as well. The Armor Pokémon was sent crashing into a rock wall and clutched his middle in pain. The Tyrantrum quickly used Ancient Power in a blast that caused a great explosion on the Tyranitar.
The blast seemed to knock both the Marowak and his Tyrantrum opponent off their feet. But it also gave the Marowak an opportunity to rush forward and strike the Despot Pokémon's head with his own Headbutt. The attack did seem to knock the bigger Pokémon's head back, but it came forward with Horn Drill. The attack knocked the Marowak to the ground and moved to get up again. But he didn't get very far when a Bite to his smaller tail made him scream in pain. The Tyrantrum effortlessly tossed him into the shadow of a rock and chased after the smaller Pokémon.
Tar emerged from the dust cloud just when the Tyrantrum came charging at him. Tar's eyes narrowed before he gave some sweet Payback in a hard punch to its face. The Despot Pokémon was sent crashing to the ground. The Armor Pokémon grunted in pain as he clutched his arm where the attack had hit and could tell that it was badly hurt. Tar looked for the Marowak, but saw he was too late as the other Tyrantrum lowered his head to the Bone Keeper Pokémon. Tar was about to fire another Hyper Beam when a growl to his right made him stop. He looked to see the Tyrantrum he had been fighting starting to get up again. Clenching his eyes in shame, Tar quickly turned tail and started running for his life. The Tyrantrum saw the Tyranitar running and gave a Roar before giving chase after him.

Author's Note: I do apologize if the battle between Tar, the Marowak against the Tyrantrums wasn't very epic. But to be fair, it was a losing battle. We're really getting back into the main story in the next chapter, but with a few differences. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
