Chapter Sixteen: Getting Separated
The Pokémon herds slept soundly through the passing night and hardly stirred when the sun rose the next day. Blitz was currently laying against Aurora with his family tucked under his wings while Barry had been given permission to sleep amongst them and was leaning against Donna while Twig slept on the other side. Blitz slowly opened his eyes and noticed that one Mouse Pokémon was missing from their group. It was then that he heard Bonnie's voice not too far from the group, "Come on, it's easy."
He looked about for his adopted sister before spotting her around a cluster of bushes. Carefully getting up to where he wouldn't disturb his sleeping friends and family, Blitz walked over to where Bonnie was. He was but a few steps away when she started counting, "One, two, three!"
When Clay was behind Bonnie, he kneeled down to where he could look and saw the Axew twins that were with Dragara. They seemed to be frightened as they were huddling in the bushes and shook at the sight of the bigger Pokémon. Bonnie tried to coax them out again by saying, "Come on out, you guys. I'm not gonna hurt ya. I promise."
"Yeah, she's right." Blitz agreed with a friendly smile. Bonnie looked back to her adopted older brother and he then asked, "What's going on over here?"
"The little Blitz's were trying to grab a berry from a tree, but they seemed to be having some trouble reaching the branches." Bonnie explained to him. Then she said, "But when I came over to help them out, they bolted into the bush here."
"Well, you guys don't have anything to worry about." Blitz reassured the two little Dragon Pokémon under the foliage. He gently rubbed the top of her head and lightly teased, "She's only terrifying when she wants to be."
Bonnie emphasized this by making herself look a little scary and growled a little bit. It seemed to spook the two Axews and they tried to move further back into the bush. That made Bonnie stop and Blitz said, "It's okay, guys."
But the two just stayed put and Blitz reassured them by saying, "Relax, she's just a little fuzzball."
"And proud of that." Bonnie nodded with a grin as Blitz turned and walked away. She looked to the two Axews and said, "Come on, we're gonna help you guys out. He's gonna get you some berries."
At the word berries, it seemed to make the two little Dragon-types relax a little and they came out of their hiding spot. The two Axews followed after Blitz and Bonnie into the forest. They quickened their pace when they saw the Charizard stop underneath a tall berry tree.
Up on a hill not too far from them, Dragara had walked up and was watching the whole thing. She watched as Blitz reached up and grabbed a few berries before handing them down to the twins. Dragara smiled at the kind and touching scene that she was watching. She slowly started making her way down the hill.
Blitz came up to one of the trees that had a lot of berries up in it. It was a little too high for the Charizard to simply reach up and pluck them from the branches. He decided to go with another method in getting them. Keeping a firm grip on the tree trunk with his claws, Blitz started climbing up the tree. Bonnie and the Axew twins watched as he climbed higher and higher into the tree. When he was close enough to the lower branches, Blitz started swinging his tail before whacking the berries that he could reach with it. It was enough to knock some of the fruit from the branches and they started falling to the ground. Blitz looked down and said, "Heads up, little guys."
Bonnie and the Axew twins moved about and caught a berry in their arms and set it down before moving to catch another. Blitz kept going for a moment more before lowering his tail and pushing himself away from the trunk. The three down below watched Blitz open his wings and glide down to them. The Flame-Flying Type landed on the other side of the berry pile and the Axew twins looked up to him with grateful grins. Blitz chuckled and said, "Go ahead, guys. Dig in."
Both he and Bonnie were startled when the two brothers started fighting over a berry. Both had their little hands on one and were trying to yank it out of the others. Blitz was quick to act by using his tail to knock the berry out their grip while saying, "Woah now, fellas."
The two Axews looked up to him and the Charizard said, "Come on, you guys. Don't fight." Then he pointed out, "There's enough for everyone here."
The two little Dragon Types looked to each other and nodded in agreement. The two then started eating berries and one of them would offer some to Bonnie who gratefully accepted. As Blitz continued to watch them eat, he became curious about something and asked the two little Pokémon, "So, where are your parents?"
"A lot of us are on our own now." Dragara said from behind the three. The four looked back to see the Dragonite approaching them. Blitz realized that she had a point considering what he and his family had gone through recently. Dragara took notice of the fruit and the boys and said, "You like kids, I see."
"Well, the small ones don't really fill me up." Blitz joked with a grin. Dragara shook her head and chuckled from the bad joke. Blitz walked around the three and introduced himself, "I'm Blitz…" He shrugged when he added, "The Poké-jerk."
"Oh." Dragara said and rubbed her arm as she remembered what she had said a few days ago. Then she offered him, "I'm really sorry about that."
"It's not entirely your fault." Blitz reassured her. Glancing to where his friends and family were sleeping he said, "My uncle had a bit of a hand in that."
"Your uncle?" She asked and looked where he was looking. The Dragonite saw the small group still seemingly asleep. Dragara looked to Blitz and asked, "One of the Pikachu?"
"The one that fought Blaze with you." Blitz clarified for her. Dragara instantly remembered, "Oh."
From where they were asleep, Cynthia was the first to rouse from her slumber. When she happened to see Blitz and Dragara talking, she became excited. She shook her father's arm, "Dad, Dad. Wake up."
"Huh?" Sam said with a snort and sat up. Cynthia's grin didn't fall when she pointed over to the two Pokémon talking to each other. Sam immediately knew what she was talking about and they continued to watch the two.
Over with the two taller Pokémon, Dragara then asked him, "When you entered that form during the tournament, was it scary?"
"A little I guess." Blitz shrugged. He could hardly remember it when he said, "I was mostly focused on making sure that Blaze wouldn't hurt you guys again. What he said made me so mad."
Dragara could tell that even though he had been angry about what the Incineroar had said, she could se another emotion behind it. She took a step closer and asked, "There was something else that you were feeling wasn't there?"
Blitz looked to her and opened his mouth to say something, but his words wouldn't come out. He knew that she was right and his head hung when he nodded. He then revealed, "I was also scared that he really would do what he said he would do and hurt you guys."
This actually surprised her a little. Dragara figured that he would be scared and angry for his adopted uncle, but for her as well. The Dragonite felt a little flattered by this. With a smile she gently took his hand into hers and the Charizard looked to her again. Dragara nodded in appreciation when she said, "Thank you for protecting us."
"Heh." Blitz returned with his own smile. She noticed a tall hill with a cliff face that seemed like it could be fun. Dragara then asked, "You do a lot of gliding?"
"Back on the island where I grew up, I could glide and fly as much as I wanted to." Blitz nodded. Dragara then asked and a grin formed on her muzzle, "Ever gone gliding with a friend?"
"No." Blitz shook his head. Then with a grin he asked her, "Do you want to go for a small glide? Just before we have to keep going."
"I think I'd like that." Dragara nodded and her grin grew a little. Blitz's grin grew as well. The Charizard was suddenly surprised when the Dragonite shoved him to the ground and took off running for one of the tall hills while shouting, "Race ya!"
"Hey! No fair!" Blitz shouted and rose back to his feet. But he didn't stay upset for long as he took off after Dragara. But before he could get too far, Blitz turned and shouted to Bonnie, "Sis! Keep an eye on the boys and don't stray too far from the family!"
"Got it!" The little Pikachu nodded to him. Then she waved him off, "Now go be with your girlfriend!"
That last statement made Blitz comically fall down on his face and Dragara look back to him. The Flame Pokémon looked to her and had a goofy looking grin when he chuckled, "Ignore her! You know how kids can get."
"Hm." The Dragon Pokémon said with a grin before she continued running. Blitz sighed as he rose off the ground, "Maybe I am a Poké-jerk."
He continued running after Dragara while Bonnie and the Axew Twins laughed. Even from where they were watching, Cynthia and Sam were lightly laughing from Blitz's embarrassment.
The two Pokémon continued racing towards the hill. Blitz was just a few yards behind her when she started climbing. The Charizard picked up the pace to avoid falling too far behind. When he reached the bottom of the hill, Blitz looked up to see Dragara not that far ahead. The Flame Pokémon took a deep breath before beginning his own climb up. He held on tight to the rocks as he climbed up.
Dragara reached the top of the cliff first and looked back down to see how Blitz was doing. When he neared the top, the Charizard was surprised to see Dragara offer a hand to him. He took it and the Dragonite pulled him up. They stood together side by side as they looked down over the lake. The view was really amazing and Blitz thought that the rising sun made it even more beautiful. Dragara looked to Blitz and asked him, "Ready for this?"
"You bet." Blitz laughed. Dragara chuckled as well and they moved to the edge of the cliff. The opened their wings before leaping off the edge. Both Blitz and Dragara seemed to be enjoying themselves as they glided through the air.

Tar panted as he ran through the woods back towards the herds. The Tyranitar's body was covered in numerous scratches and bruises. He clutched his arm from the intense pain that he was feeling. He came down a hill, he lost his footing and slipped. He grunted in pain from the slide down and groaned when he reached the bottom. Remembering what was on the line, Tar forced himself back onto his feet and started running again. He only prayed to Arceus that he could warn the others in time, not aware that drops of blood had fallen as he ran.

The two flying Pokémon didn't stay up in the air for much longer as they started to descend from the air. Dragara was the first to land, but when she looked back, she was a little startled when Blitz was coming hot. They both cried out and he ended up crashing into her. The two Pokémon tumbled along the ground and kicked up a little dust in the process. They ended up with in a heap with the Dragonite on top of the Charizard. She raised up a little and the two looked a little shocked. Blitz glanced away and said, "Uh, sorry about that."
"It's okay." Dragara said, also glancing away. She blushed when she said, "Accidents will happen.
"Are you hurt?" She asked and helped him to sit up. Blitz sat up and said, "You mind if I can ask you a question?"
"Yeah, sure." Dragara nodded, wondering what he wanted to know. Blitz then asked, "How did you and Drudd meet?"
"That is quite a story." She said as she remembered. The Dragonite gave a quick version by saying, "We meet each other shortly after something had attacked our families. He's always acted like a protective brother to me. And it can cause him to-"
"Do things that don't always seem right." Blitz finished. Dragara was a little upset that he talked about her adopted brother like that, but it softened when the Charizard had a point. She semi-hugged herself and looked away, "It's what I've been hearing for most of my life since I had met him. And I don't know what to think about it anymore."
"But it doesn't have to always be like that, Dragara." Blitz said and took her hands with his. She looked to him and said, "If everyone looks out for one another than we can make it through anything."
"You sound so sure about it." Dragara said, feeling the truth in those words. But Blitz shook his head, "I'm not, but it's all that I know. And it's something that gives me hope for everyone that I know and care about."
Dragara smiled to this and placed her hand. He looked to her in surprise and smiled back at her.
From where they were, Sam and Cynthia had watched the whole thing. Brock was starting to wake up and sat up while rubbing an eye. Sam's grin didn't falter when he said, "One down… and," He stopped when he looked to Zini and didn't want to sound insensitive so he just said, "Well, one down."
Brock looked to where his father and sister were looking and was surprised by what he was seeing. The Pikachu couldn't help but feel a little jealous, but he was still happy for Blitz nonetheless.
…
From a distance on another hill, Drudd had watched the whole thing between his adopted sister and the newcomer. He got a little overprotective when he saw Blitz crash into Dragara, but calmed down when he saw that she was alright. Drudd could tell that Dragara was falling for the Charizard, and was happy that his adopted sister may have found someone to love her, but was a little wary of Blitz. His thoughts were broken when he heard Tar's voice shout to him, "Drudd!"
Looking to his left, he saw the Tyranitar limping up to him. The Druddigon was shocked not only to see Tar alone, but was also covered in many a wound. Drudd was about to ask what happened when Tar informed him, "Tyrantrums!" He grunted in pain from his wounds and said, "We and that Incineroar were ambushed by a couple of Tyrantrums."
"What?" Drudd questioned and looked behind him. It was sounding preposterous to him, "I've never heard of Tyrantrums coming down south."
"The fire ball must have driven them out." Tar said, thinking it was the only reason that they had come. He leaned against a tree before grunting in pain. A new sound came to them and Drudd looked to the forest behind them. Suddenly the scent of Tar's blood came to him and a particular roar meant that they had found a trail. Drudd looked to the Tyranitar with a glare, "And you have just led them right to us!" With a snarl he growled, "Maybe you can feed them with your hide!"
"Where are you going?" Tar questioned when the Druddigon started to run off. This made Tar close his eyes from what Drudd had said to him. Drudd didn't stop running when he came upon the other leaders of the other Pokémon herds. He shook the Arbok and the Meganium awake. The former Pokémon questioned him, "What's going on?"
"A pair of Tyrantrums are on their way right now." Drudd told them. That seemed to put them on alert as both of them got up. Drudd then told them, "You need to get your herds out of here."
"Not mine." Stag said when he joined them. Pounding a fist against his chest he confidently said, "My herd are more than capable of bringing these monsters down."
"And yet Blaze is dead because of them." Drudd disagreed with him. Stag looked to the other leaders and questioned, "Are you going to go out in battle or run away like cowards?"
"I can't risk everyone." Kobra shook his head. Even Megan agreed by saying, "We'll need some Pokémon to stay behind to give the old and young a chance."
"I can't make any promises that they'll all make it." Drudd bluntly said. Then he offered, "But I can take them with me."
"Thank you." Kobra nodded his gratitude. He and Megan went off to go and warn their herds. Drudd turned and went off to do the same with his own Pokémon herd.
He reached the spot where they were resting and gave a roar. The sound carried out to the others of his herd and it started to make them get up.
…
From where they were sitting, Blitz and Dragara looked to each other and began to feel new feelings. They became so lost in each other's eyes that they started to lean towards each other. The two Pokémon were but a few inches when they heard Drudd's roar. They looked to see the Pokémon herd starting to mobilize and Blitz asked, "Hey, what's going on here?"
"My brother's moving us out. But I'm not sure why." Dragara said before getting up and going to look for her brother. Blitz got up as well and followed after her.
Up on the hill, Drudd had guided his herd to an opening and they started to file through. He watched as the Pokémon not staying to fight filed in with his herd and went through the opening. He kept an eye out for any stragglers and was grateful that he wasn't seeing any. His attention was diverted when he heard Dragara shout, "Drudd!" He looked down to see her and Blitz running up and she asked, "What's going on?"
"A couple of Tyrantrums." Drudd told her, making Dragara gasp at what that meant. While Blitz was a little in the dark about it, he could tell that it seemed really bad. Drudd then said, "If we don't get a move on now, then they'll catch up to us for sure. And we're taking in a few stragglers enough as it is."
"But my friends in the back, and if you're taking anymore-" Blitz started to say, thinking of Donna, Aurora and Twig. He shook his head, knowing that they and any new additions would fall behind, "They'll never make it."
"Then they'll prove their metal against the predators." Drudd said, not willing to risk the now growing herd for a few stragglers. He looked back down the hill to watch over the Pokémon walking by. This made Blitz angry as he roared, "You can't just go and sacrifice them like this!"
Dragara tried to stop him, but it was too late when he rushed up the hill. Drudd looked to the Flame Pokémon with a glare as he joined the Druddigon. Blitz shouted down to the moving Pokémon herd, "Hang on, everyone!" His shouting started to draw their attention to him, "That could be you guys back there! Just wait a moment!"
Drudd growled as he didn't like Blitz trying to stop what he thought was right and saw it as the Charizard trying to take his leadership. With a snarl he turned towards Blitz and rushed at him. Blitz was taken aback when Drudd shoved him back and was caught off guard when Drudd quickly turned and smacked him with Dragon Tail. Blitz was thrown off his feet and fell onto his side. He groaned as he started to pick himself up, but was stopped when Drudd slammed his foot onto Blitz's chest to keep him pinned. The Charizard looked to the Druddigon as he warned, "If you ever get in my way like this again…" His mouth started to glow when he growled, "I'll kill you."
With a snort, Drudd stepped off of Blitz and turned to walk away. Blitz was breathing heavily when he sat up from the assault and his eyes were still wide from the shock of the threat. Dragara came up to him and reached down to help him to his feet. But when Drudd looked back, he got angry again and snarled, "Get away from him, Dragara!"
He came back with a roar and it made Blitz back up a little. Then moving between his sister and Blitz, Drudd slapped the Charizard in the face with his wing. Blitz winced from the smack before looking at Drudd with a growl. Drudd didn't look back as he grabbed Dragara's arm and pulled her away. The Flame Pokémon was about to fight the Druddigon when Dragara shook her head, "No, Blitz. Don't." His gaze softened when eh said, "You should just go. I'll be okay, I promise."
Blitz sighed as he knew that she was right. The Charizard knew that he couldn't be picking fights right now. He had his friends and family to worry about. Opening his wings, the Flame Pokémon jumped off the edge of the hill to glide back to the others. When he landed on the ground again he sprinted towards them.
From on the hill, Dragara glanced back and watched him go with a sigh of her own. Drudd snorted and released her arm, making her look to him. Drudd then growled, "I don't want you going anywhere near him again."
"But, Drudd…" Dragara tried to argue. But her adopted brother just shook his head, "Not one more word about it. We need to get out of there."
Dragara only gave another sigh and followed after him. Back with the others, Blitz came up to the others just as Donna, Aurora and Twig were all helped up by Barry and the Mouse Pokémon. Barry looked to Blitz and asked, "What's going on?"
"We need to go! Tyrantrums are coming!" Blitz explained as he picked Bonnie and Brock off the ground. They held on to his shoulders while he helped Cynthia up as well. Sam was a little confused, "What-rums?"
"Tyrantrums." Donna repeated, knowing that this was bad. They looked to her when she described the predatory Pokémon, "Large bipedal, rock throwing Pokémon that have a mouth full of teeth and a bad attitude." She was with Blitz when she said, "We need to get a move on."
"Come on, you guys! Let's go!" Blitz shouted and he scooped Sam up into his arms. When he was sure that all four were safe, he turned and started running after the fleeing Pokémon. He started to pull away from the others to try and catch up, 'We're gonna get left behind if we don't hurry."
"Blitz," Cynthia said when she glanced back. She tapped his shoulder to get his attention, "You must slow down."
"Blitz!" Barry called out to him from behind. Blitz stopped running and his face fell when he looked back. He had nearly left his friends behind. Barry remained behind with Donna, Aurora and Twig as they did their best to get a move on. Blitz looked to them before looking back to the fleeing Pokémon herd and sighed when they started to disappear. The Charizard looked up the hill to see both Dragara and Drudd disappear as well. He looked back just when the four joined them. Blitz offered, "Sorry for nearly…"
"It's okay, Blitz." Donna stopped him. Aurora then said, "We all know the young can be swept up in things."
"That can happen to us old folks too, you old coot." Donna argued with her. Aurora just huffed and Barry suggested, "Let's just try to meet up with the rest of the herd."
"But what about those who didn't go?" Bonnie asked and looked to the Pokémon that were staying behind. Sam looked back and said, "They must think that they can fight these Tyrantrums."
"Well, I'm not sticking around." Donna shook her head and kept on moving. The others just looked to each other before walking with the Bastiodon.

Far up ahead, the grown Pokémon herd was starting to enter a canyon space that had river that went to the lake behind them. In the middle of the herd, Tar was doing his best to keep up with the others, but his wounds were starting to act up and he had to slow down. The Tyranitar looked to the head of the Pokémon herd, but his face fell when he saw that Drudd didn't seem to be worried about looking back. And the further that the herd traveled along, the more that the Armor Pokémon was falling behind. And it wasn't too long after that when Tar found himself completely alone when he had been left behind. Tears welled up from being left behind by those whom he considered great friends.
\_|_/
Back at the lake, though many of Pokémon herd had gone, the other leaders and a few others were preparing themselves for the coming battle. Megan, Kobra and a few others were going over a few strategies while others were off practicing their Pokémon moves.
The calls of bird-like Pokémon made them all look out to the forests around the oasis. They knew that the Tyrantrums were getting closer to them and got ready to fight. Stag, Megan and Kobra all moved to the front of the small army and prepared for the battle of their lives. They became a little nervous when trees started falling down as the two Despot Pokémon came over closer.
