DAY OF BURIAL
"We looked for you after." Bucky said solemnly.
"My folks wanted to give you a ride to the cemetery." Bucky added.
"I know I'm sorry…I just kind of wanted to be alone." Steve answered slowly as he dragged himself up those flights of stairs. Thinking of how everything had passed so suddenly. He still remembers that night he had first walked up these stairs with Joseph all those years ago.
"How was it?" Bucky asked, knowing Steve was having a hard time with the lost.
"It was okay," Steve said. "At least she's next to Dad" he added.
"I was gonna ask…."
"I know what you're gonna ask. Buck. I just…"
"We could put the couch cushions on the floor like we did when we used to watch movies after work. It'll be fun. All you gotta do is shine my shoes, maybe take out the trash." Bucky said as Steve looked for his apartment keys in all his pockets. Knowing him well, Bucky knew he probably forgot them inside again so kicked over that rock next to the apartment door, and picked up the key. "Come on."
"Thank you, Buck but I can get by on my own." Steve said as he grabbed the key.
"The thing is you don't have to." Bucky said slowly grasping Steve's left shoulder and added "I'm with you till the end of the line pal."
Steve just smiled and nodded. He was reassured knowing that even though he had lost his family, he at least had his pal, maybe everything would be alright like Sarah had told him, maybe there was hope. Maybe it was not a curse, maybe he wouldn't always be Solo as his given name said.
The war happened, he was elected to receive the super serum. To his surprise the serum made him grow, he grew as tall as his father, Han, he was now six feet. Maybe this was the size he was supposed to be, or maybe he was supposed to be smaller, after all his mother and uncle were both under five feet. Yet the thing he found most surprising was that he was fighting a war again. It was almost as if he was made for war, he always found himself fighting against the ones trying to take freedom away. His parents and uncle first fought for freedom in the Galactic War, he fought in the Vongz war, now he is fighting in a war that once again threatens the freedom of others.
It was almost like deja vu, as when he went to Baanu Rass to save the galaxy, and to help destroy the superweapon that threatened the lives of the Jedi. Was this the way back to his universe? "Steve" Peggy called out to him. Slowly taking him out of his trace of thought. So as Peggy spoke to him on the walkie, he wanted to try to balance the life he could have here with Peggy, and to honor the life of his pal Bucky, who's loss was still too fresh, or he could maybe find his way back to his family. His mom, his dad, to everything he yearned for and missed daily, all the relationships he formed here, only distracted him long enough to try to make himself believe he was happy here, but was he truly happy here, enough to ignore the chance to be back with his family. So as he silently but quickly weighed his option he knew the unknown called him more, maybe this was the way back home. He'll try to come back, he thought as he slowly pushed the console of the plane downward and closed his eyes as he felt the plane connected with the sheets of ice below. Maybe he would be home.
Sorry just did not want to go into too much detail, as I know everyone watched the films. And I know reading it could have been a little too boring. Other than that please Leave a review, so I can know how y'all are liking the story.
