70 years later….
He slowly opened his eyes, trying to adjust the lighting it stung a little.
Curveball high and outside for ball one. So the Dodgers are tied 4-4. And the crowd we knowns that with one sewing for his bat, this fellow's capable of making it a brand-new game again.
It dawned on Anakin where he truly was, as he slowly sat up on the cot he was laying on. He was still here on the planet they called earth, far from his home. What had happened? He doesn't remember giving his coordinates to Peggy. Or Did he really just start the dream all over? He was not prepared to relieve everything again, the loss of Joseph, Sarah, or Bucky, but maybe he could treasure the time with them a little more, maybe change the outcome.. He slowly stood, but something was different. He was still muscular, his legs looked longer, and as he listened to the game playing on the radio he knew something was off. He was at that game, it was the first baseball game he had been to, he had gone with his Pal Bucky, Joseph, and Bucky's father. He was trying to figure out what this place was. When a door opened and a woman walked in her uniform.
"Good Morning….or should I say afternoon" she said. "Where am I?"Rodgers asked slowly. "You're in a recovery room in New York City." she said confidently. But Rodgers isn't believing it, he knew that game, the Dodgers were going to win 8-4. If that game was a lie, what other things in this room were a lie. Just as he was finishing his brainstorming he heard the game announcer:
The Dodgers take the lead, 8-4, Oh, Dodgers.
That confirmed his suspension, he wasn't where this lady was saying, maybe she's a hydra agent. So he asked again, "Where am I, really?"
"I'm afraid I don't understand." She could see her movements in her body and face, indicating she was being deceptive, but why was she lying to him.
The game. It's from May 1941. I know 'cause I was there." Rodgers said, trying to see if they would encourage her to speak truly.
Yet all she did was become more nervous.
So he stood, "Now I'm going to ask you again. Where am I?"
"Captain Rodgers."
"Who are you?"
But suddenly two guards step in ready to try to detain him. But he could not figure out what they were trying to hide from him. So as he fought the two guards off of him and threw them into the wall, he now saw that this was a complete set up, it looked almost like a stage.
So as the women yelled, "Captain Rogers, wait."
He ran away as fast as he could before more guards were alerted of his escape.
And as he predicted he heard, a announcement being made.
I repeat. All Agents, code 13.
So as he ran quicker as all the men and women all turned and started to chase him, he ran until he reached the outside of the building. Why did the building look different even though the cars looked so different? But he didn't have a good chance of processing the change and kept running towards anywhere that wasn't where he had woken up. He ran until he was in the middle of big holograms on the side of the building, where was, looked like New York but it had many more lights than he once remembered. So he stopped, and looked around trying to figure out where he was. But that was a mistake; it gave time for those agents to surround him in their vehicles. Before he could attack or try to escape he heard someone say.
"At ease, soldier!"
Steve turned to the man talking, it was a man dressed in a dark suit, and an eye patch. Who was he? He walked straight to Steve, without hesitation and a purpose that got Steve's attention.
"Look, I'm sorry about that little show back there, but we thought it best to break it to you slowly." The man had said.
"Break what?" Steve asked.
"You've been asleep, Cap…" the man paused for a second. "For almost 70 years."
Steve couldn't believe how this could be true. 70 years? Steve tried forming words, but just did not have the ability to. How could 70 years, passed?
"You gonna be okay?"
"Yeah"
"Yeah I just…."Steve wanted to say he just thought he would be back home, in his world, but at the last second he decided to say something a man would have said that had left a different life behind.
"I Had a date."
