Chapter 2

Harry sat down at his desk promptly. He pulled out a fresh sheet of parchment and found his quill. Frowning harry looked at his quill. It was chipped and badly cared for, but it would do for now. Staring vacantly out his window for a second, he started writing

Dear Susan

I know we have not talked much at school, and this is entirely my fault. I could have done a much better job talking and getting to know you and for this I'm sorry. I write to you asking for your help. Well, I am asking for your aunts help. I read in our history book that she worked for the Department of magical Law Enforcement? I would very much like to speak to her if possible, about some legal matters.

Your (hopefully) soon to be acquaintance

Harry Potter

Opening Hedwig's cage, harry carefully tied the letter to her leg and opened his bedroom window. "go now girl, find Susan and wait for a reply"

As he watched Hedwig's form slowly disappear on the horizon, harry decided then and there. He would put more effort into his academics. Both spellwork and theory should be expanded on, but most importantly he would research magical law and the government. He was a wizard after all and would need to know such things when he was of age anyway.

Looking at the time, it was just after 7pm. Harry sighed quietly. It didn't look like the Dursleys would give him dinner tonight. Shaking off these thoughts he reached for his history book once more and settled down to read some more

.

Harry ended up reading long into the night and was simply fascinated. It was more to the wizarding world then he first thought. The Ministry of magic was a large government with many branches. Stretching from the department of magical accidents and catastrophes all the way up the wizarding ruling body. The Wizengamot. Apparently the Wizengamot was similar to the British house of lords, except they were judge, jury and executioner all wrapped into one. The Wizengamot is apparently ruled by wizarding families going back as far as the founders time.

Harry could understand why purebloods then was so proud of their lineage, when they could trace it all the way back to the 10th century. Although Harry understood their pride and arrogance after hundreds of years, he still did not approve of the exclusion of muggleborn witches and wizards.

Searching for the family names of the ruling body, however, was not in Harrys history book. There was a reference however, to another book named "Nature's nobility: A wizarding Genealogy".

As soon as Hedwig returned from her trip, he would owl order the book from Flourish and blots and start reading.

A large snore shook him from his thoughts. No doubt his cousin next door dreaming of beating up small kids. Looking at the time it read 1:17 AM. He should really go to sleep now, lest he not wake up in time for his uncle's lovely chores. He was sure Uncle Vernon had not maintained the garden just for Harrys enjoyment.

Harry fell asleep that night knowing that he would try his very best to get away from this wretched house.
