Hello everyone! So yeah, I lied about it being a few more weeks until the next chapter. Give me a break, they won't let me off campus because of corona and I'm bored out of my mind. And of course, I'm getting seriously into fanfic writing. Anyway this chapter isn't as long as the last one, but I do introduce Jake in this one.

Enjoy!

I do not own 'Adventure Time'.

Chapter 5

Give Me Some Sugar

Kara stood across the street from the small toy store looking nervous, she took a deep breath. 'Come on Kara just walk inside and say hello, sure it's been over twenty years but that doesn't have to make this weird… right?' The Seeker must have been standing there for an hour straight, trying to work up the courage to go inside. 'It's what Finn wanted you to do.'

Finn.

The thought of the little guy made Kara feel heavy in the heart. It was her job to protect him, now the little boy she had watched grow up and considered a little brother was gone. Kara had failed at what she considered her most important job, and there was the high possibility that she may never see the kind hearted boy ever again. The last thing Finn had ever said to her was to make amends with her old friend. Kara put on a determined look and walked to the toy store, when he reached the door she took a breath and walked inside.

And there she was, fixing the wheel of a toy train for a little girl. Frieda hadn't really changed all that much, she wore the same blue-eared dog hat she had worn back then, a cream-colored one-piece under a brown vest over covered her tanned skin. When Frieda heard the door 'ding' upon opening she held up a finger but kept her eyes on her work. "Be with you in a minute."

Kara couldn't help but smile. 'Always focused on her project.' when Frieda was finished she handed the train back to the girl.

"There you go sweetheart, all ready for its voyage."

The girl took the train with a big smile, "Yay! Thank you Miss Frieda!" She ran past Kara and through the door. Frieda watched her with a smile, but when she noticed Kara her face morphed into one of absolute shock, her screwdriver dropped to the floor.

The two of them just stared at each other for a bit, until Kara decided to break the ice. The big Seeker rubbed her arm nervously and put on her best smile. "Hey Frieda, it's been a long time huh?"

Frieda blinked a couple of times, as if waking up from a daze. "Kara? Uh yeah, yeah it has."

Kara took a step forward. "I just thought… you know… I would just stop by to see how you were doing after all these years."

"Oh, it's been good." Freida gestured to her toy store. "After re-education, they gave me this little place. It's nothing all that sophisticated, but it's still something."

Kara let out a heavy sigh. "Listen Frieda… I am so sorry about what I did to you. I let you down as a friend, as my best friend." she put every ounce of guilt and sorrow she had into her words.

This seemed to surprise Frieda. "Oh, that? Oh no it's fine. I'm over that whole thing."

Kara in return was taken back by this. "What? Just like that? You're not mad at me?"

Freida just shrugged. "No reason to be mad, I was a Hider and you were doing your job. Simple as that."

This was not going the way Kara had thought it would go, and she didn't like it. 'What did they do to her?' "You have every right to be mad at me though! You just wanted to see the rest of the world and you were punished for it!" Kara had no idea where this was coming from, but she let it all out anyway.

Frieda blinked in confusion. "Kara-"

"I let you down! You were an incredible person and I let you be put through re-education! I failed you!" When Kara was done looked down to the floor and took a breather. "I'm leaving soon, someone has been lost at sea and I've been assigned to go find him."

"Lady Minerva's son?"

"Yeah, him. It may be awhile before I come back, he wanted me to go and visit you so I figured I should before I leave. I may not even come back." Kara then turned around and walked to the door, she reached out to open it.

"Kara!"

Kara turned around, Frieda had her arm outstretched towards her. When she got Kara's attention Frieda put her hand down on her work table and drummed her fingers nervously. "I… I hope you make it back safely. And when you do… well." She gave Kara a smile. "It would be nice to really do some catching up."

Kara stared at Frieda, surprised by what she had heard. She returned Frieda's smile with one of her own. "I would like that." she replied before walking out the door.

As Kara walked to the beach, she thought on what she just told Freida. You have every right to be mad at me though!, you just wanted to see the rest of the world and you were punished for it!, she had told her. Kara was a Seeker, and that kind of thinking went against everything she was ever taught. No matter how hard she tried though, she just couldn't get rid of the feelings of doubt. When she reached the beach, she saw Dr. Gross standing by a hover ship. Kara had hoped to see Minerva too, ever since Finn's disappearance she had retreated into the island's mainframe. All that anyone ever saw of her anymore were the Minerva-bots, the real Minerva only communicated to her subordinate Dr. Gross through telecom.

Dr. Gross turned to Kara. "Ah hello Kara, right on time, perfect. Do you know your assignment?"

"Check the entire vicinity of the other three islands. If projective is not located, proceed northeast until any trace of the projective is found." Kara replied.

Dr. Gross smiled. "Very good."

Kara climbed into the pilots seat of the ship, "Question Dr. Gross."

"Granted."

"If I find subject Martin Mertens, am I to bring him in for questioning?"

Dr. Gross smiled again. "Don't you worry about that Kara Strong, he has already been found and brought in."

The next morning, Finn began his trek through the forest to the Candy Kingdom. LSP decided to accompany him, despite Finn desperately trying to tell her he would be fine on his own. LSP aside, the walk through the woods was pretty soothing. Finn took a deep breath of fresh forest air. 'I guess this place isn't so bad.' LSP however, wasn't enjoying herself as much as Finn was. She kept floating into branches and even swallowed a falling leaf while she was talking about her breakup with Brad. If Finn was being honest with himself though, he was kinda grateful for it.

"Glob this sucks, why the lump did I even agree to go with you to the Candy Kingdom!" she shouted.

"Good question." Finn muttered to himself softly enough so LSP couldn't hear him.

"Ugh, I hate the freakin' forest. I sometimes wish I stayed with that pack of wolves instead of living out here." LSP continued.

Finn was curious. "Why do you live out in the woods anyway? If you're a princess then shouldn't you be living it up in a palace or castle or something?"

The Lumpy Space Princess scoffed and crossed her arms. "I would, but I like, can not stand my lumpin' parents. They're the lumpin' worst."

"The King and Queen of your kingdom?" Finn asked.

"Yeah well, see I'm not really from any of the Kingdoms either Finn. I'm like, from another dimension called Lumpy Space. But my parents were unable to accept me for who I lumping am, so I ditched that place and came here to get away from all that garbage."

Finn gave LSP a worried look. "But… don't you ever miss your home, your family, your friends? I've only been gone for like three days and I miss the heck out of my home."

LSP rubbed her shoulder and looked away. "I mean sure, I get like, a little homesick from time to time or whatever, but I got a good thing going here in Ooo. And it's not like I'm totally alone here, I got Marceline to hang with, and I'm pretty tight with Turtle Princess. She lets me hang out in the library when I need a place to crash at."

The mention of a library peeked Finn's interest. "Library?"

"Oh yeah, Turtle Princess runs the Library of Ooo. There's like, a bunch of libraries in Ooo, but the one TP is in charge of is like, the oldest and most popular library in Ooo or whatever. She takes her job as the caretaker way too seriously though, I keep telling her 'Girl you gotta get your nose out of the books and find yourself a man'. but she has like, the worst luck in that field. You wouldn't happen to have a brother or cousin or something would you?"

"Uh no, sorry." The Library of Ooo sounded a lot like the Island Library, Finn added a mental note to give that place a visit and see if he could learn more about Ooo, maybe even find something about how the humans lived before the Apocalypse.

LSP shrugged. "Oh well, just means you're one of a kind."

After quite a bit of walking Finn noticed the trees had turned pink and fluffy and they smelled like sugar, he guessed that they were getting close to the Candy Kingdom.

LSP floated to Finn's side as he walked. "So what is your island full of Humans like? You haven't really talked much about."

Finn turned his head towards LSP. "Oh well, it's a pretty nice place. Peaceful and quiet, constantly kept safe by the Seekers and our tech. We've got a library like the one your friend Turtle Princess runs, and there's this pretty nice seafood place by the east coast. Good people all around, my mom keeps things pretty organized and up to speed, she turned herself into a computer program so that's pretty easy for her."

LSP stared at Finn. "Okay sounds nice enough but like, what do you guys do for fun and stuff?"

It was a simple enough question, but it still took Finn by surprise. 'What do we do for fun?' Finn actually had trouble coming up with an answer. "Well, the Library is a nice place to visit, and the seafood place is a nice hangout spot."

"Okay but like, what else? You guys live on an island, do you guys surf?"

"Well, no."

"Deep sea diving?"

"That's for trained Seekers and Experimenters, most of the time the machines do most of the work though."

"Do you guys at least throw beach parties or luaus or something?"

"Sometimes, like for birthdays or weddings and whatnot."

LSP looked like she ate a bug. "Geez Finn, I'm like, totally sorry and all but, your island sounds down right, shoot myself, lumpin' lame."

Finn got defensive. "Well excuse me, I'm sorry we don't have vampires and wizards on Founder's Island. It's a safe haven for the people that live there."

LSP shrugged, "Whatever. I'm just saying, you guys sound like you do more surviving than living." she floated on ahead. "We're almost there, it's just up ahead here."

Finn hated to admit it, but LSP's words had really gotten to him. Finn always knew nothing exciting ever happened on Founder's Island, but up until now he never viewed his home as boring. But then again, compare any other place to a world that had Candy Kingdoms and libraries run by a turtle and of course the former will appear mundane by comparison. Finn shook his thoughts away and quickened his pace to catch up with LSP, up ahead she floated in front of a clearing in the pink foliage and waved him over. When he reached her they both went through and stepped into an open field.

LSP pointed, "There it is Finn, the Candy Kingdom." farther off into the field, Finn saw the Candy Kingdom. It was hard to make out a whole lot of detail from so far away but Finn was able to see a couple of white towers around a tree with a cloud-like canopy.

LSP pointed to a nearby road. "Just follow the path and it'll lead you straight to it."

Finn looked to LSP, "You're not coming?"

LSP shifted her gaze away. "Nah, I'm sorta like, banned from the place or whatever. I kind of like, ate the foundations of one of the towers and the whole thing fell over and nearly crushed Princess Bubblegum. Then after that I sorta stole some stuff from PB's lab, and then I broke one of my old boyfriends out of jail, and then… well the list is kinda long but you get the idea."

Finn blinked, "Ah, I see."

LSP shrugged, "Yeah well, see ya later I guess. Drop by my place anytime you want, I might have to charge you for it though." LSP said with a smile and tone that suggested what she was hinting at.

Instead of getting embarrassed, Finn gave LSP a genuine smile. "Thank you for everything LSP, you're the first friend I managed to make in this world and I won't forget your kindness."

LSP blinked and even blushed a little, it seemed she wasn't expecting Finn to say something like that at all. "Awww, Finn." she said with an embarrassed smile. "That is like, so sweet of you to say. I… I gotta go!" she shouted that last part and rushed back into the woods.

Finn smiled and started his walk down the road, when he made it to the outer walls of the Candy Kingdom he got lost in the sheer beauty of the place. The whole kingdom was built on a symmetrical plane, the large, perfectly circular wall that surrounded the kingdom looked like a layered pastry. The castle looked to be built around the great tree and was constructed like an enormous vanilla wedding cake with pink icing. A couple streams of red orange liquid poured out of the castle and made their way into the moat that surrounded the kingdom's wall. Several towers surrounded the castle and were connected to it by a bridge, the whole place had a heavenly scent of multiple sweets. Finn noticed the two giants that sat on either side of the kingdom, the Gumball Guardians, Finn assumed. They weren't as big as the island's Guardian nor were they all that scary, but they were still rather impressive. The two giant sentinels resembled gumball machines with arms and legs and wore an ice cream cone hat on their glass dome heads. They looked to be asleep though, hunched over like an old person who fell asleep on a park bench. All in all, Finn thought the place was something straight out of a fairy tale, the kingdom was even completed with a rainbow in the background.

Finn walked up to the toast-shaped drawbridge that led into the city. The domed gatehouse had the drawbridge raised, a pair of guards stood watch outside the gatehouse on the outer side of the moat. The guards, to Finn's surprise, turned out to be living banana men. The two sentient bananas had a pair of feet sticking out of the sliced out end of the bottom of their bodies and a pair of short arms wielding a diamond tipped spear. The chocolate and sprinkles on their head gave the impression of hair. Finn thought they were about as imposing and dangerous looking as a parfait, but he kept an eye on those spearpoints all the same.

When the banana guards noticed Finn the one on the left held up a hand in a stop position. "Halt, what business do you have in the Candy Kingdom." the guard had a naive, childish voice and it sounded like he had been rehearsing that line for awhile.

Finn put away the fact that he was talking to a pair of man-sized bananas and responded with a friendly demeanor. "Greetings, I am here to speak with Princess Bubblegum."

The guards looked at each other like they were trying to figure out how to respond to that, the same guard spoke again to Finn. "Uh yeah, you can't do that."

Finn gave the banana a quizzical look. "Why not? Do I have to set up an appointment or something? Because I can come back later, no problem. Or does the princess just not speak to outsiders?"

"Oh no it's not like that. It's just that, well, the princess isn't really here right now." the banana guard responded.

"Oh." Finn couldn't help but feel annoyed, he came all this way to meet the person that could help him get back home and she wasn't even here. "Well do you know when the princess will be back then?"

"Well you see, we don't really know. She sort of got kidnapped a few days ago and so we don't know when she'll be back." said the guard.

Finn's eyes widened. "Someone kidnapped her?!"

The banana guard on the right gave the one on the left a bonk on the head with his spear. "Dude be quiet, we're not supposed to tell people that!" said the right banana guard.

The left banana guard rubbed his head. "Owie!, that hurt! When the princess gets back from her kidnapping I'm telling on you!" he received another bonk on the head. "Owie!"

Finn would've laughed at the guards' antics if it were any other day, but he needed Princess Bubblegum's help and was getting fed up with the delays. Finn put his hands up in a calming gesture. "Alright alright alright, so if the princess isn't here is there someone else I can talk to?"

The right banana guard spoke up. "You could talk to Peppermint Butler I guess, he's sort of the princess's right hand candy, but I don't think he's seeing anyone unless they're here to rescue the princess."

'You've gotta be kidding me, what in the hell did I do to deserve this?' thought Finn once he realized where this would end up leading him. Finn put on a strained smile. "Well guys you're in luck, I'm the guy who's gonna save the princess."

"Hooray!" the banana guards shouted. "Well why didn't just say so?" the right banana guard asked. He then turned around, put his fingers to his lips and let out a loud whistle. Another banana guard appeared in the window of the gate house. "Go ahead and let the bridge down, this guy's cool!" the right banana guard shouted. The guard in the window disappeared and a minute later the bridge lowered and it's gate rose up.

Left banana guard pointed to the entrance. "Go ahead and sightsee a bit if you want, but the road should take you straight to the castle. Once you get there just ask for Peppermint Butler and tell him you're here to save the princess. Oh and by way, when you're in there don't tell anyone the princess is missing, we need to keep it a secret."

Finn gave the banana a thumbs up, then walked into the Candy Kingdom. When he went through the gate, the drawbridge went back up and the gate went back down. The two banana guards looked at each.

"That guy seemed nice."

"Was he a Goblin?"

"I thought he was a marshmallow-headed Candyperson."

"Oh, maybe you're right. Did the princess try to make a boyfriend or something?"

"That seems kinda desperate."

"I'll tell her you said that."

(Bonk)

"Owie!"

Finn looked around in wonder at the Candy Kingdom, he could hardly believe his eyes. Everywhere he looked he saw Candypeople of all varieties, a tall chocolate bar man, a pair of gumdrop girls, a walking punch bowl, a chocolate malt ball with a mustache, even a buff cupcake, all of them walking about their lives with happy looks. It seemed everything was made out of candy here. The buildings, the people, heck their Guardians were giant gumball machines. The whole place was like a beautiful dream to Finn, he took a whiff of the sugary aroma and his mouth drooled a bit. Then his stomach growled, Finn realized he hadn't eaten anything all day. He looked down at the streets and an idea hit, Finn bent down and pulled out a chunk of the street. He took a bite out of it, it was the best peanut brittle he had ever tasted. Founder's Island had a couple of candy stores but nothing they had could compare to this.

"Hey you! Stop that this instant!"

Finn turned around, it was the buff cupcake, he walked up to Finn and put his hands on his hips. With his mustache and large biceps, he looked like a professional weightlifter. "I understand you might be new here, but I still must kindly ask you not to eat the very ground we walk on." he spoke very politely.

Finn dropped his chunk of peanut brittle back into the hole in the street. "Sorry about that man, I haven't eaten all day and I just couldn't resist."

The cupcake waved it off. "Oh it's quite alright, every tourist tries to take a bite out of something or another on their first visit."

Finn smiled guiltily, "That obvious huh?"

The cupcake chuckled. "I'm afraid so my friend. So what brings you here to the Candy Kingdom? Just looking for a nice vacation spot I assume?"

"Actually I'm here to save-I mean-see Princess Bubblegum."

"Oh is that so?" the cupcake raised an eyebrow, "Another suitor are you?"

Finn blushed and waved his hands in front of him frantically. "No no no!, I just need to talk to her! I heard she can help me get back home."

"Oh well in that case, allow me to take you to her myself Mr…"

"Campbell, Finn Campbell, and I would be most grateful for that."

"Well met Finn Campbell, call me Mr. Cupcake. Now right this way good sir."

Finn followed Mr. Cupcake through the streets of the Candy Kingdom, Finn was at first afraid he would be singled out as the only non Candyperson in the kingdom, but it seemed he wasn't the weirdest thing the candies had ever seen. Aside from a few sideways glances nobody really paid him any mind. The beefed up pastry led Finn up a flight of stairs to the castle entrance, once they arrived at the big pink door Mr. Cupcake turned to Finn.

"I'll leave you to it then old boy, I would stick around, but I have a date with the missus in-." he looked at his watch and gasped. "Three minutes?! Good glob Chocoberry will have my icing for this! Good day Finn and I wish you the best of luck!" the cupcake exclaimed before sprinting down the stairs.

Finn waved his hand in farewell. "Goodbye Mr. Cupcake!... wow, never thought those words would ever come out of my mouth in that order. Oh well." Finn turned to the door and pushed it open. Once inside Finn walked down the pink sugary hall, he saw a couple of Candypeople as he walked by, a cookie walked by wearing a crown made of flowers. A root beer guy was arguing on his phone, to his wife by the sound of it. Finn eventually made it to the throne room, where he saw a peppermint in a butler's outfit arguing with a yellow bulldog. Peppermint Butler, as Finn assumed he was, seemed mad about something.

"I don't care who it is, just find someone to help you rescue the princess!" the butler shouted, waving his arms in the air.

"Woah woah take it easy there Pep-but, what makes you think I need help on this one? I'm a certified hero of Ooo." argued the dog.

"Because Mr. Jake, you have got to be the most unreliable 'hero' Ooo has ever seen!" the peppermint retaliated.

"What! That's a load of bull stuff!" shouted the dog.

"Oh really? When the Lich broke out of his prison, you kept taking snack breaks when you were supposed to be saving lives!"

"Eating helps calm the nerves! Plus I managed to save plenty of people!"

"The last time you went to save a princess from the Ice King, he ended up freezing you after he managed to distract you with a glob damn bone tied to the end of a stick! We had to send your girlfriend to flippin' bail you out!"

"No he did not, and I find that offensive to dog-kind!"

"Oh don't give me that! If I were to take a rolled up newspaper and bop you on the nose with it, you would be out of the castle for the rest of the day!"

The dog covered his nose. "Don't you dare do that! We dogs hate that with a passion!"

"Well I have half a mind to! Look, call your girlfriend, call your one of your kids, call BMO for all I care! We need the princess back here now more than ever! The Fire Kingdom's army could be marching towards us any minute!"

Finn walked up and cleared his throat to get their attention, the candy and the dog turned to Finn. "Um, hey there. I'm here to help with your missing princess problem." he told him.

"Wonderful, you're hired." the butler said rather bluntly, he then stuck at thumb towards the dog. "Take this bucket of fried chicken and glob knows what else and go save the princess."

The dog didn't seem too happy though. "Seriously pep-but?! You're gonna hire the first rando-weirdo that walks through that door?"

"Yes absolutely, unless of course you would prefer I give Lady a call?" Pep butt asked with a raised eyebrow.

The dog raised his hands up in surrender. "No I don't want to drag her into this and you know it ya ding-dang mint." he then turned to Finn. "So you wanna go princess rescuing huh new guy? Well I don't know if you've got the skills to pay the bills." Finn watched in shock as the dog stretched out into a ten foot tall muscle bound hulk. He flexed his muscles and let out a roar. "SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT SON!"

Finn took a step back in fear, but the dog just let out a chuckle before he shrunk back down. "Nah I'm just messin' with ya man, you wanna go save a princess that's totally cool bro." the dog stretched his hand up to Finn in greeting. "Name's Jake by the way, and who might you be?"

Finn shook his hand. "Finn, nice to meet you. If you don't mind me asking, how are you doing that?"

Jake grinned, "Heh heh heh, you like that huh? Yeah it's this completely unique and awesome thing I can do, no biggie." Jake then stretched his body into multiple crazy shapes and figures to prove his point. "Check it out!"

Finn stared at the dog in wonder. "Dang, that's incredible!"

"You bet your biscuits it is man!" Jake shrunk down to normal and gave Finn a sniff, the dog's eyes widened once he got a good whiff. "Dude do you bathe in soy-people or something? You got a crazy scent on you."

The 'soy-people' thing confused Finn but he decided to let it go. "Well, I'm a human if that helps."

Jake and Peppermint Butler were both taken back greatly by this. "No freakin' way! You're seriously a Human?!" exclaimed the dog.

"It would appear he is telling the truth." the butler walked up and examined Finn. "Fascinating, a living, breathing human being. Quite possibly the only Human left in Ooo." A flash of realization came to Pep-But's face. "Unless of course, there are more of you somewhere, and you're from that somewhere."

Finn gave the little candy a smile. "That's right, there's an island full of us Humans. That's the whole reason I'm here by the way, I need Princess Bubblegum's help to get back home. I kinda got shipwrecked."

Jake blinked at Finn. "Ah dude seriously? You got separate from your home? I'm so sorry man."

"All the more reason to save the princess!" proclaimed Peppermint Butler. "Mr. Finn was it?"

"Finn Campbell, yes."

"Well then Mr. Campbell, save our princess and win your audience with her. I'm sure once our beloved monarch has heard your crisis she will do everything in her power to help you."

Jake rubbed the back of his head. "Well, all things considered I'm not how much she'll be able to help-"

"Up bup bup bup bup! Help the princess, win your audience. It's as easy as that." Pep-But interrupted.

Finn gave the thumbs up. "Consider it done."

Jake laughed. "I like this guy's attitude, hey man whaddya say me and the family treat you to some lunch? Prepared by yours truly."

Finn smiled. "I haven't eaten anything all day so yeah that sounds wonderful."

"No! No! No!" shouted Peppermint Butler. "You two have a princess to save!"

"And we will, right after lunch." Jake stretched to the size of a minivan, picked up Finn and set him on his back. "Come on Human, I'll introduce you to the fam. Hold on tight!" Finn let out a yelp as Jake ran out the door, with Peppermint Butler chasing after them.

"Get back here, confound it!" Pep-But quit running and brought his hands to his knees panting. "Ugh, if this actually goes well by some manner of miracle, I'd better expect to find a pretty big bonus in my next paycheck." the little candy let out a sigh. "Oh who am I kidding? I don't get paid."

And there we go, next chapter I introduce PB, IK and Lay-D. As for when I'll post the next chapter, well at this point just expect it whenever.

Until next time! And thank you for following my story!
