Hey everybody what's up? Couple things I wanna knock out of the way real quick, I've noticed in some of the reviews that a couple of you guys are wondering if my character Sarah Cornell is related to Betty Grof because of their similar appearance. I would like to point out that despite that being a good idea, it was not intentional. I just wanted Sarah to have a 'cute bookish' appearance, Founder's Island's best girl, which compared to fire babes, vampire chicks and gum princesses, isn't saying a whole lot. Also Patience St. Pim will not be in this fanfic, some of you might be thinking 'but she's down beneath the Ice King's lair just like the Lich is, that could lead to something.' I'm just gonna take the lazy way out and not even include her. My fanfic I'll do what I want.

Chapter 6

Ice Ice Baby

Upon Jake's back, Finn could see better the lands of Ooo as the dog walked on long stretched legs. It all took his breath away. Finn could see fields of green, tall stone mountains rising to the heavens, lakes large and small, a fiery volcano could be seen in one distance, and a large mountain of ice could be seen in another. Finn was high up enough to even see the very beach he ended up stranded on. What struck Finn as the most amazing though, was that there was so much it all. Everywhere he looked, miles upon miles of frontier could be seen of all terrain; grass, sand, snow, candy, fire, 'Founder's Island was so small.'

"Wooooooow." Finn couldn't help but exclaim.

Jake chuckled at the boy's wonder. "Yeah it's pretty neat here in Ooo, a guy could live here till he's in his nineties and not even see half the cool junk there is to find."

Finn couldn't close his mouth, it just hung open at the majesty of Ooo. "Man, I can't even begin to imagine all the crazy stuff that goes on in Ooo."

"Heh, yeah it's one crazy thing after another with Ooo. But at the end of each day, I get to kick back with my girl and enjoy myself." Jake turned his head towards Finn. "How about you, ya gotta girlie waitin' for you back on your island?"

Finn rubbed the back of his head, he tried not to think about Sarah but failed. "Oh, well, no not really."

"What!" the dog exclaimed. "A guy like you with no girl? Nah man I don't buy it."

Finn shrugged, "Look man I don't really know what to tell ya, I've never had a date in my life and that's the cold hard truth."

"At least tell you've reached tier two with a babe."

"Tier two?"

"Okay that's it." Jake's face caved into his head, a figure of Jake morphed on his back in front of Finn and he pointed a finger at the startled Human. "New side quest alert, Imma get you with a gal before you head back to your island."

Finn's eyes widened. "What! Dude come on, seriously!?"

Jake held up a hand for silence, "Don't give me that, look man this princess rescue mission is gonna officially make us bros. And as such, it's a bro's job to help out his fellow bro. No ifs, ands or buts about."

Finn groaned. 'Great, first I had my mom badgering me about this and now this guy.' Still though, Finn had to appreciate the dog's kind consideration. Jake seemed like a real great guy, fun loving and down to help out. However, Finn made a side note to be careful the bulldog's antics didn't get him into trouble. "Fine, whatever." he replied. "So are we almost to your place?"

Jake's back-body melted away into his flesh and his face returned to his head. "Oh yeah it's right up here, and technically it's my girlfriends place but please don't bring that up in front of the kids. Kim Kil Whan gives me enough crap about that as it is."

Jake brought Finn to a cozy looking farmhouse. The brick walls and aluminum roofing gave it a quaint and humble appearance. A red silo could be seen a couple yards away. A stream flowed under a small wooden bridge in front of the house, Finn thought the whole place looked quite lovely. Jake picked Finn up and set him down in the front yard before shrinking down to his regular size.

Jake cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted. "Lady! Kids! Anyone home?!"

Seconds after Jake let out his call, something flew out from behind the house and circled above. It had an incredibly long slender body, which appeared to be as multi-colored as a rainbow.

Finn took a step back, "What the heck is that!?" he shouted.

Jake gave him a scolding look, "Uh, that's my girlfriend thank you very much."

The creature landed in front of Finn and Jake, she looked like a cross between a snake and a unicorn. She had a pink horse-like head on the end of her rainbow body with a horn protruding out of her forehead. A long light-blonde mane grew out the back of her head and flowed down her long back. She had a small pair of legs on one end of her long body near the head and another pair by her tail. She really was an incredible looking creature to Finn, albeit a bizarre one.

Jake walked up and gave the creature a kiss. "Hey hey beautiful, sorry if I kept you waiting."

Jake's girl gave him a nuzzle. "Aga, eodi iss-eoss-eo?" she said in a language Finn couldn't understand, she had a kind and sweet voice though. She then turned to Finn and gave him a quizzical look. "Geuligo dangsin-ui isanghan chinguneun nugu-imyeo wae geuleohge geob-eul meogseubnikka?"

"Oh this guy?" Jake jerked his thumb towards Finn. "He's cool, don't worry about him, Finn here is just new to these parts is all. He's gonna help rescue Bubblegum from the Ice King, thought I'd treat him to some lunch first." He then turned to Finn. "Finn, meet my girlfriend- and practically wife- Lady Rainicorn. Lady, meet Finn."

Finn gulped down his nerves and stepped forward. "Umm, hi there. My name is Finn and I'm sorry if I seem freaked out."

Lady waved it off and smiled. "O, geogjeonghaji maseyo, gongjunim-eul dobgi wihae yeogi gyesindamyeon, gagi jeon-e uliwa hamkke sigsahaneun geos-eul hwan-yeonghabnida. dangsin-eun aju meosjyeo boibnida."

Jake translated, "She said you seem very nice and that it's cool if you eat with us."

Finn smiled at Lady, "Oh, well, thank you Lady Rainicorn."

"Hey Lady, are the kids here yet?" Jake asked.

"Ye, geudeul-eun dangsin-eul gidaligo issseubnida." Lady responded. She then sniffed the air and gave Finn an odd look. "Dul-i beolsseo jeomsim meog-eoss-eo? Igeos-eun kong salamdeul-ui naemsaega nanda."

"Oh that? I'll tell you about it over lunch, girl you're not gonna believe it." Jake then grabbed Finn's arms and led him behind the house. "Come on man, I'll introduce you to my pups." Jake brought Finn behind the house with Lady following behind them and Finn saw a group of bizarre looking creatures sitting around a large picnic table. Jake let out a shout, "Hey kids! Daddy's home! And he brought a guest!" Jake gestured to Finn. "This is my new friend Finn. Finn, meet my kids. This here is Charlie."

The one called Charlie looked the most like her dad, but she had her mother's long light-yellow hair with a cone shaped horn sticking out of it on the top. She wore a large light blue shirt and a few freckles adorned her cheeks. She was currently shuffling a deck of cards, she looked up and gave Finn a nod. "Sup."

"This here is Viola."

Viola looked more like her mom. She had a horse-like face with a long horn and a pair of long doggy ears. Her fur was peach colored and she was a head taller than Charlie. Viola wore a pretty pink shirt and skirt, a white flower necklace on her neck and a large blue flower sat next to her horn. "Hello." she greeted Finn softly.

"This here is T.V."

The name T.V seemed to suit this one just fine; he looked the most comical, like a large purple beach ball with arms and a horn on top. T.V had a turquoise stripe around his belly, and down lower a yellow stripe and below that a pink stripe which connected to his pink legs. His patchy face could have really used a shave. T.V was currently typing away on a laptop, he raised up a hand without looking. "Hey, how's it going?"

"This here is Kim Kil Whan."

Kim Kil Whan had his mothers long body but his dad's features. His fur was a dark orange color and he had a long goatee and a small stub of a horn on his head. KKW looked very distinguished in his long grey suit and tie, he had a briefcase sitting next to him. "Well met."

"And this here is Jake Jr."

Jake Jr. was the strangest looking one out of the five of them, she looked like a rainbow peanut with arms and legs and light-blonde hair. She didn't appear to have any eyes but a thin line of a mouth could be seen on her face. The horn on her rear end made it look like she had a stinger like a bee, she looked up from the book she was reading. "Hey, what's up." she said.

Finn raised his hand up in greeting. "Hello everyone, nice to meet you all."

Jake stretched his hand up to Finn's shoulder. "Take a seat wherever bud, me and Lady will cook up a meal to die for."

"Do you need any help?" Finn offered.

Jake gave him a finger wag, "Eh, eh, eh! The master chef works alone, with his lovely assistant of course. Come on baby let's get cooking!" Finn watched as Jake and Lady ran into the house.

"Yeah, dad gets pretty intense when it comes to his cooking." Jake Jr. explained. "Plop a seat wherever man, it's all good."

"You can sit by me Finn." T.V said, patting the spot next to him at the picnic table. "Whatever cologne you're wearing smells really good so I don't mind."

Finn walked over and took a seat between Viola and T.V, he tried to calm his nerves as best as he could but sitting amongst these bizarre alien creatures was really getting to him.

Viola noticed Finn's distress. "Are you okay Mr. Finn? You look a little pale."

Finn waved it off. "Oh no I'm fine, it's just that… uhhhh… well, I've never actually… seen anything like you guys." Finn tried to be as polite as he could, afraid he might offend Jake and Lady's kids.

They didn't seem to mind though, Jake Jr. actually laughed a bit. "Yeah, we're pretty much the first dog-rainicorn hybrids in known existence."

"Rainicorn?" Finn asked.

"Well yeah, that's what mom is, I'm surprised you've never heard of Rainicorns before. Sure you don't really see that many in Ooo, they don't normally leave the Crystal Dimension, but still though."

Finn rubbed his shoulder. "Uh yeah well, I'm not really from anywhere in Ooo."

"Is that why your cologne smells so yummy and exotic?" Asked T.V, he took a whiff of Finn. "Man it smells good, like hamburgers and hotdogs and everything else that tastes awesome."

Finn wasn't really sure what to make of that, but at this point Finn had come to the realization that Ooo and it's inhabitants were just weird, so it was best to just go with the flow. "Oh, I'm not wearing any cologne. I'm a Human you see."

There were a couple gasps at the table. "Oh my glob no way! You're seriously a Human?" exclaimed T.V. "No wonder I wanna eat you so badly!"

Finn blinked. "Excuse me?"

Jake Jr. explained. "Look here's the story: see, after the Mushroom War, the Rainicorns came to this dimension to see what all the hub-bub was. When they got here, they took a sniff of the human survivors and sort of went to town on them."

Finn stared at Jake Jr. "Huh?"

"By 'went to town', I mean started eating them."

Beads of sweat began to form on Finn's forehead. "Wha-wha-wha-what?" he stuttered.

"Woah-ho, take it easy guy." Jake Jr. said. "No one eats humans anymore; they've been extinct for over a thousand years, well I mean, aside from you of course. Nowadays Rainicorns just eat soy-people, supposedly you can't even tell the difference."

That didn't really make Finn feel any better, but he took a breath and tried to relax all the same. "So… I'm not in any immediate danger of getting eaten am I?" he asked.

"Well maybe, if mom and dad would hurry up the food, I'm starvin' here!" proclaimed T.V.

Kim Kil Whan rolled his eyes. "Must we listen to this every time we eat together?"

"Oh shut up Kim Kil Whan." T.V shot back.

"Now boys behave yourselves." Viola told them, she then turned to Finn. "So Mr. Finn, if you're a Human, then does that mean you're the last of your kind? Oh you poor thing."

"Oh no, not at all." Finn told them about Founder's Island, how he ended up stranded on the beach, and how he was told to go see Princess Bubblegum for help. Finn left out the part about his dad's treachery, Marceline and LSP though, wanting to keep his story short and to the point.

"Glob, you're really on one heck of a journey, huh?" Charlie said, she raised her cards up. "You wanna have your fortune taken?"

Finn shrugged, "Sure, why not."

Charlie gathered her cards and did a series of shuffles, she then whispered a chant into her deck and bopped Finn on the forehead with them. With her eyes closed Charlie folded out the cards in her hands and held them up to Finn with the back of the cards facing him. "Pick one." Charlie said, her eyes still closed. Finn hesitated, then reached out and picked a card at random. He turned it around to see what he got.

Finn held up his card. "It's a joker card."

Charlies' eyes widened. "Aw snap, neat man!"

Finn tilted his head. "What do ya mean?"

"Here's how this deck works: diamonds mean fortune, hearts mean love, clubs mean power, and spades mean bad luck or a dark road. Whatever number you get determines the level of fortune, love or power you will receive one day. But the joker card?, it's the wild card it could mean anything. I can't really explain exactly what that means for you, but the best way to describe getting the joker card would be 'buckle up, you're in for a ride.' Ya get me?"

Finn looked at his card, the joker stared back at him, grinning menacingly.

"Can I get a new card?"

"Not how it works man."

"Dangit."

"Food's ready everyone!" Jake had emerged from the house carrying several plates of food on his enlarged hands, accompanying him was Lady and a small green robot. Jake set the plates of burgers, hot dogs, spaghetti, drinks and various appetizers on the picnic table. "Dig in y'all!"

Finn had lost his appetite upon hearing the 'eating humans' thing, but once he smelled the food he joined Jake's family and helped himself to the spread. It was some of the best food Finn had ever tasted. "Mmm! Jake I gotta say, this stuff is really good!"

Jake smiled with pride, "Heh heh heh you darn right it is man! Here try some of my meatloaf, it's my pride and joy right next to my kids."

"Love you too dad." Jake Jr. commented.

Jake placed a slice of the meatloaf on a plate and stretched it over to Finn, Finn took the plate, picked up his fork and tried a bite. His eyes widened. "Wow!"

Jake let out a cheer, "Ah yeah homie! That's what I like to hear!"

T.V leaned over to Finn. "Mom once told me that dad wanted to name me Meatloaf, but mom wouldn't go for it so they just decided on T.V."

Finn felt something pull on his pant leg, he looked down and saw the little green robot. It had a rectangular body with two short legs, with various buttons on its front. On its sides near the top it had microphone holes and below that it had the letters B.M.O with each stubby arm extending from the center of the O. Two eyes and a mouth could be seen on the screen that functioned as its face. The robot smiled up at Finn.

"Hello, are you Finn the Human?" it asked.

Finn smiled at the adorable little machine, it had an innocent, childlike voice. It spoke with a cheery and friendly attitude. "Why yes I am, and who might you be?" Finn responded.

"I am BMO, Jake told me and Lady about you while we were preparing the food. I thought it would be nice to meet you, and it is!" BMO reached his hands up to Finn, "Could you please help me up on the table?"

Finn picked up BMO and set him on the picnic table. BMO thanked him and picked up a cup of tea to drink, the robot seemed oblivious to the fact that the tea just ran down his body though.

Jake noticed BMO on the table. "Oh, good to see BMO likes you." the dog pointed a spoon at the green robot. "That little guy is our gaming system slash movie player slash computer slash adorable family member. He's a wonder in technology!"

"Yay BMO!" the little guy shouted with his hands in the air.

Finn examined BMO. "Wow, we got some pretty advanced tech on my island, but nothing as unique as you."

A blush formed on BMO's digital face. "Yes I am one of a kind, I am a multi-purpose entertainment system module. My creator calls me 'his pride and joy', like Jake calls his meatloaf."

After that, Finn ate and conversed with Jake and his family, he was actually enjoying himself quite a lot. Finn laughed at jokes and told some of his own, he told his hosts about Founder's Island and it's history. Jake and his kids told Finn more about themselves, turns out Viola was into theater, and even performed in a few of LSP's works. Kim Kil Whan told Finn about his wife and daughter, and explained how he was the owner and founder of K.K.W. Enterprises, a successful real estate agency. He even offered Finn a look at some affordable housing for his stay in Ooo, but when Finn told KKW that he didn't have any money, he cleared his throat and said never mind. Jake explained how his dad Joshua the Dog was a well known and respected adventurer and hero, who went about Ooo solving crimes and mysteries alongside his wife. Finn told Jake and his family how his mom was an AI and the leader of the island. Finn would have never seen it coming, but he was really bonding with these people. It made him feel happy to know there was someone in this strange world he could look to for support.

"So yeah, before I followed in my old man's footsteps, I was a bit of criminal." Jake was saying. "After a while though, I straightened myself out and dedicated myself to being a hero, just like mom and dad would have wanted."

Finn smiled at that, "For as long as I can remember, I've been training to be a Helper just like my mom. Helping the island, helping my peeps, that's all I've ever wanted."

Jake gave Finn a warm chuckle, "Man, you are one of a kind, you know that?"

"Dangsin-eun chinjeolhago gosanghan ma-eum-eul gajigo iss-eumyeo widaeham-eul hyanghan unmyeong-eul gajigo issseubnida." Lady added.

Jake nodded, "Well said Lady, well said."

The food was nearly gone and Finn was stuffed full, so he decided to get back to the task at hand. "Hey Jake?, I hate to spoil the fun but do you think we should start thinking of a plan to rescue the princess?"

Jake perked up. "Huh? Oh-oh yeah! Yeah we should totally do that before Peppermint Butler loses his teacups on me. Okay so as I may or may not have mentioned earlier, Princess Bubblegum was kidnapped about three to four days ago by the Ice King."

"Ice King? Wasn't he one of the guys the princess enlisted to fight the Lich?" Finn asked.

"Oh so you know that story. Well yeah she did but the Ice King is a total nutball, just some crazy, old, annoying hermit who lives in his mountain with his penguins. Before the Lich broke out he would kidnap princesses left and right, but after Ice King became the Lich's warden, he sort of mellowed out. He doesn't kidnap princesses as often as he used to and even when he does it's normally pretty easy to rescue them. Some people think of Ice King as a hero for imprisoning the Lich, but most are well aware that he's just a cold-cut loony."

Finn took all the info in. "Any chance he'll just hand over the princess?"

"Not a chance, believe me." answered Jake. "But don't you worry, Jake's got a plan."

"You're screwed." Jake Jr. pointed out.

"I don't mind the extra clothing but do I really have to wear this outfit?" Finn asked. Jake had outfitted him with a large red coat with blue gloves and a pair of yellow pants and boots, a turquoise hood and a pair of blue goggles adorned his head and face. Finn and Jake were currently in the snowy Ice Kingdom, so the heavy clothing was more than welcome but Finn still felt rather ridiculous wearing it all.

"Look man, I already told you this." Jake argued. "We need to trick the Ice King into thinking you're a wizard here to check on the Lich's prison. Once you and IK are down in the dungeon, I'll sneak in and bust out the princess."

"What if he asks me to do some magic?"

"Well then do a few magic tricks or something."

"I don't know any magic tricks."

"You'll be fine."

"Jake Jr. was right, we're screwed."

"Alright enough chit-chat!" Jake pointed up to the tall mountain of ice, a trail led up to its peak. "You see that mountain? That's the Ice King's lair. Go up and knock on the door and do as we rehearsed, I'll be right behind you." Jake then grew a pair of springy legs and bounced off.

Finn let out a sigh and walked up to the mountain peak. The mountain appeared to have a face, two circular eyes and a triangular mouth were cut into the mountain side. Finn followed the trail right up to the mouth, there was no door to knock on so Finn just let himself in. "Hello, anyone home?" he called out.

A burst of white energy hit the floor in front of Finn and a cluster of icicles formed, Finn yelped and jumped back. "Who dares enter my domain?!"

Finn looked to see who had spoken, in front of him stood the guy Finn guessed was the Ice King. He was about the same height as Finn and had a great, big snow white beard. The large dark blue robe he wore went well with his light blue skin. His teeth were sharpened like shark teeth, and his nose was long and pointy. His bushy, zig-zagged eyebrows hung above a pair of crazed eyes, and on his head sat a golden crown with three large, red rubies embedded in its base. "Speak!" he demanded, his hands were glowing bright with power.

Finn gulped before he spoke. "I-I-I'm from Wizard City, I'm here to check on the Lich's prison."

Ice King's eyes narrowed. "Seriously man?"

Finn let out a breath. "Listen Mr. The Ice King this wasn't my idea, my frie-"

"Yeah yeah I know, the Grand Master Wizard sent you, you didn't have a choice blah blah blah." the power in the Ice King's hands diminished. "But come on, he sent a guy over here freakin' four days ago. I'm starting to think he doesn't trust me."

Finn blinked, "Uhhh yeah, well you see the last guy apparently overlooked something and so they sent me to take a look at it."

Ice King walked over to Finn. "Oh well. So I don't think I've seen you around Wizard City before, what's your name bub?"

'Think of a wizardy name, think of a wizardy name.' "Uh, my name is… Presto."

Ice King raised an eyebrow. "Presto?"

"Yup."

Ice King shrugged. "Meh, I've got a friend named Abracadaniel so who am I to judge?" The wizard then spread his arms out wide. "Welcome to my sweet bachelor pad Presto!"

The place did indeed look like a depressing bachelor pad. A workout bench and weights set sat in one corner and a tiger-striped bed sat in another. A drumset stood nearby with '#1 Babe' printed on the bass drum. A large dungeon cell sat in the back. Everywhere he looked he saw articles of clothing and empty or near-empty pizza boxes on the floor. It didn't really seem like a place a king would live but Finn held his tongue.

Ice King seemed to take pride in the place though. "Yup, pretty sweet dig I got here huh guy?" he asked with a smile.

"Oh uh yeah yeah, it uhhh-" Finn watched a few penguins fight over an unfinished half of a sardine pizza. "It really is something."

"Heh heh heh, I'm glad you like it." Ice King snapped his fingers. "Oh you know what? I should introduce you to the ladies."

"Ladies?"

Ice King led Finn over to the prison cell, inside were a group of princesses rather than one, all of them sitting around looking pretty bored. Finn looked at the one he assumed was Princess Bubblegum, he was actually surprised by her appearance. When Finn had heard the name 'Princess Bubblegum' and saw all the Candypeople, he envisioned a small, pink gumball girl with a tiny crown on her head or something equally adorable. In reality, Princess Bubblegum was the most human looking person Finn had seen in Ooo since Marceline. Her long, pink and gummy-looking hair reached to near her ankles. She wore a lovely pink dress over her lighter pink skin, on her head she wore a simple looking gold crown with a blue gem embedded in it's tall tip. She looked to be about Finn's age.

'Dang she's pretty.' Finn couldn't help but think to himself.

Some of the other princesses looked pretty human too, one of them was another girl Finn's age with yellow skin wearing a dress that appeared to be made of toast and a pancake. Bacon covered her egg-white hair like a tiara. Another princess had blue skin and wore a white wedding dress with a large purple ribbon in the front, in her short pink hair sat a large ring with a blue gem adorning the top.

The rest didn't look so human, one of them looked like a doll you'd buy from a creepy old lady. She had a sock puppet body with a cut out mouth and eyes, though her left eye had a green button sewn over it. She had no arms but stood on two mismatched longsock legs. In her brown linen hair a shard of glass stuck in her head as a makeshift crown. Another one looked like a big green booger, she was just a small blob of green slime with two stubby arms. She wore a crown similar to PB's except the gem was green. The last one was a giant raspberry with a face and green arms and legs. On top of the stem on her head, a tiny gold crown was fitted on the end.

When the princesses noticed Finn and Ice King, they walked to the bars of the cell to see the newcomer. "Ladies this is Presto, he's stopping by to check on the Lich. Presto these are the ladies, Slime Princess, Raggedy Princess, Wildberry Princess, Engagement Ring Princess, Breakfast Princess and Princess Bubblegum." Finn had no problem figuring out which was which.

Princess Bubblegum walked up and grabbed the bars of the cell. "Ice King let me out of here this instant!" she commanded. She spoke with authority in her sugary voice, Finn liked it.

Ice King raised his hands up defensively. "PB, baby, can we please not do this now? We have company over."

"I have a kingdom to protect! It could be burning to the ground as we speak! Let me out glob damn you!"

IK spoke gingerly. "Baby later. We have a guest here on business." he sighed and turned to Finn. "I'm sorry about her Presto, she's been like this for a while now You know how women are, always getting moody over nothing."

"Fick dich alter Wahnsinniger!" shouted PB in another strange language.

"We can order some takeout if you want but it's still kinda early don't you think?" Ice King answered. He then turned back to Finn. "She does that sometimes, talks in that weird language of hers. It took me awhile but I think I'm getting pretty good at understanding what she's saying."

Bubblegum pinched the bridge of her nose, then she turned to Finn. "Presto the Wizard, please I beseech you. Free me and my fellow princesses and we will forever be in your debt." the other princesses shouted out in agreement.

"Free us!"

Please!"

"I'm begging you!"

"I can't take it anymore!"

"I'll marry you if that's what it takes!"

Ice King gave Finn a cheeky grin. "Woah-ho-ho! Look at this guy raking in the babes! The pink one's off limits of course but you can have one of the others, maybe the Slime or Raggedy Princess… okay maybe just the Slime Princess."

Finn held up a hand. "Uh, no thank you, they're all yours."

"Are ya sure you don't want to take the Slime Princess?" IK tried again.

"Yes take the Slime Princess!" shouted the SP.

"It's fine." Finn turned to Princess Bubblegum and looked her in the eyes. "We are going down to the dungeon and we will be down there for a while. Leaving the princesses here all alone." he said with a smile. PB's eyes widened upon realizing what Finn was hinting at, she gave him a small smile.

"What was that?" asked the Ice King.

"Nothing." answered Finn.

"Yes nothing." added Princess Bubblegum, her voice layered thick with sweetness. "You and Presto should go down to the dungeon and check on the big bad Lich, we'll be right here waiting for you Ice King." the other princesses murmured in agreement.

Ice King stared at Finn dumbfounded. "How the heck did you get her to calm down like that? Man and I thought I was good, you're a dang master."

Finn just shrugged, "I just told her something she was happy to hear, shall we adjourn to the dungeon?"

"Oh yeah, sure thing man. By the way, did you bring any protection?"

Finn tilted his head, "Um, no?"

"Well that's all right I've got one for ya." Ice King turned around. "Gunter!" he called out. One of the penguins waddled over wearing an iron head band encrusted with sapphires. "Wenk." it quaked.

"Gunter sweetie, give daddy the headband." Ice King told the penguin, the penguin took off the headpiece and handed it over to Ice King. "Thank you Gunter, now keep the princesses company, me and Presto here are going downstairs to check on the Lich."

Upon hearing this, Gunter's eyes widened in excitement and he ran up to Ice King waving his flippers about, "Wenk! Wenk! Wenk! Wenk!"

"Gunter no!" IK shouted at him. "How many times do I have to say it?, you are not allowed to go see the Lich!"

"Wenk! Wenk! Wenk!"

"Gunter no!" Ice King pulled out a squirt bottle and he gave the penguin a few squirts. "Bad penguin! Now go stand guard in front of the princess cage now!" Gunter finally relented, he waddled over to the front of the cell and stood in front of it, though he didn't look happy about it.

Ice King groaned "Every time." he muttered. The wizard then turned to Finn, "Alright Presto let's get going, you ever seen the Lich before?"

"No." Finn answered.

"Well you're never gonna wanna see him again after this, let me tell ya. Come on let's go."

Finn followed the Ice King through several doors and staircases leading downward, the inside of the Ice Kings mountain was far more complex than one would initially think. The two of them eventually came to a large icy double door covered with carvings of runes and spells, the air seemed to get colder.

"Here we are, stand back Presto, I have to perform the opening spell." Ice King told Finn. Finn did as the old man told him and watched as the Ice King clapped his hands together and began to mumble a spell, his hands began to glow and crackle with blue lightning. The door in response began to glow as well, the runes and spells carved into the ice lit up in a patterned sequence. Ice King thrust his hands forward and the large double door slid open inward, the lights faded away.

Ice King pulled out the iron headpiece he took from Gunter and held it up to Finn. "Here put this on, it'll keep the Lich out of your noggin."

Finn took the headpiece and placed it on his hooded head, a blue bubble formed around his head before fading away. Ice King nodded and proceeded down the stairs with Finn in tow, the door closed behind them. The descending staircase was lit by wall torches burning with blue fire, but the further down they went the colder Finn felt, his breath was visible in front of his face. the Ice King didn't seem bothered by the cold, though he still looked a bit on edge. When they finally reached the bottom and entered a hemisphere shaped room, Finn was freezing on the inside and out, the reason for that was right in front of him.

A large block of ice the size of a small house laid before Finn and the Ice King, at the bottom of the ice several shining, white crystals surrounded the base of the block. The crystals seemed to be feeding ice into the block, Finn looked at the top of the cube and saw that it was actually melting, it was a balanced effort so the big block of ice remained the same size.

"He's trying to melt himself out." Finn realized aloud.

"Yeah it's nonstop with this guy." Ice King pointed to the crystals. "But those frost crystals keep him on ice. We managed to rough him up pretty badly when he tried to destroy Ooo, so he doesn't have the strength to burst out of there, and with what little power he still has that's all the damage he can do really." He pointed to the top of the block.

Finn put in every ounce of willpower he had into keeping himself from running away, the Lich was inside that ice block, Finn could feel it and it terrified him. "Uhhh, c-c-c-can we g-g-g-go now?" whether he was shivering from the cold or from fear Finn couldn't tell.

Ice King gave him a look of pity. "Look man, I'm scared of this guy too, and I'm his jailer. But you still need to make that report to the Grand Master Wizard, come on you can get closer, he can't do anything to us in there."

Finn suddenly remembered why he was down there in the first place, so he gulped and walked up to the block of ice with IK by his side. Upon closer inspection, Finn could see that the ice coming from the crystals had intricate carving of runes and symbols covering it all over, he watched as the runes and symbols made their way up to the top of the cube and melted. The never ending cycle. Finn looked up, the entire ceiling had those runes and symbols carved into it. When he looked inside of the ice block, Finn could see the figure of something vaguely humanoid trapped in the very center.

Finn had had enough, he turned to Ice King, "Inspection is all g-g-g-good, l-lets g-go p-p-p-please" he stuttered from the cold and/or fear.

"Yeah good idea." replied the Ice King, they turned and headed for the stairs.

"Hello child."

Finn spun around, it was as faint as a whisper, but still crystal clear. The frightened human stared at the Lich's prison in fear. He knew that voice.

Ice King looked at Finn with concern. "You okay Presto?"

Finn had trouble finding his words, "I-I-I-I-I-I thought I h-heard something." he replied.

IK put a hand on Finn's shoulder, "Hey don't worry man, with the headgear we're wearing the Lich is incapable of getting in our heads. Come on let's get out of here."

Finn nodded and followed the Ice King back upstairs, doing his best to ignore the soft sound of evil laughter in his head.

Once they were out of the stairway and the door closed behind them and Finn finally remembered how to breathe, he brought his hands to his knees panting like he just ran a marathon. "Holy hell, I nearly wet myself just standing next to that thing while it was imprisoned. You actually had to fight him?!" he asked Ice King incredulously.

"Oh yeah it was one tough fight, believe me." replied IK, "In all honesty, I was trying to run away from the Lich but that dang monster followed to my home. I improvised and well, now I'm his warden."

"The Vampire Queen called over the Grand Master Wizard right?" Finn asked.

"Yeah, odd girl that Marceline, the only person in all of Ooo who bothers to drop by and visit aside from my, like, two friends. Between you and me I think the poor girl has a crush on me, don't get me wrong I would totally go for it but have you seen them fangs? No thank you." Finn and Ice King walked back up to the throne room, once they reached the room both of their eyes widened at what they saw.

Gunter was waving a bone tied to the end of a stick around while Jake was on all fours barking happily trying to nab the bone, the princesses in the cell kept yelling at Jake to set them free but Jake showed no signs that he could hear them.

"Oh glob not this guy again." muttered IK, he extended his hand and a beam of blue energy shot out and hit Jake, freezing him in a block of ice mid-run.

Finn stared at Jake's frozen form with a disappointed look, "You've got to be kidding me."

Ice King walked over and patted Gunter on the head, "Atta boy Gunter. Yeah sorry about that Presto, that was just Jake, he's always breaking in here trying to princess block me. Don't worry though he can't do anything now." Ice King picked the frozen dog up and walked over to the cell. "Good news girls, I got you a puppy!" He opened up the cell and slid the frozen Jack inside much to the girls dismay, then he closed the door and turned to Finn. "Well now that that's all out of the way, you wanna hang out a bit before you have to leave?"

Finn began to sweat nervously despite the cold. 'Improvise Finn, improvise!' "Ummm… hold that thought." Finn walked over to the exit and looked outside, then he let out a dramatic gasp and turned to Ice King, "Oh my goodness! Ice King, look outside! I think I see someone taking a wiz on your mountain down there!"

"What! Seriously that's like the fifth time this month!" Ice King exclaimed angrily. He let out a huff and walked over to the exit, "Okay then, Presto, you stay here with the princesses while I go take care of this punk." IK's beard spread apart and flapped like a pair of wings and he flew off the ground. "BRB." he said before flying out of the mountain.

The second Ice King left, Finn ran to the cell door and yanked on it as hard as he could hoping it would break open. "It's no use, you'll have to find something to pick the lock!" Bubblegum said to him. Finn looked around frantically until he looked up and saw the sharp icicles on the ceiling, he took off his headpiece and threw it like a frisbee towards the ceiling. The iron circlet struck the base of an icicle and it broke off and fell to the floor, only for Finn to catch it. He immediately got down and got to work on the lock, Finn was no Experimenter but he knew enough about mechanics to understand what he was doing. 'Come on, come on, open sesame.' The lock clicked open.

Finn swung the door open and the princesses flooded out with a cheer. "Yeah yeah your free, now just let me grab Jake and we can get out of-"

Ice King flew through the door. "Hey Presto you're not gonna believe it, it was actually a-" IK put his hands to his mouth and gasped loudly. "Presto! You're trying to steal my ladies?!"

Finn's eyes glanced to either side. "Ummmmmmmm… it's not what it looks like?"

Ice King looked outraged, energy sparked in his hands. "I can not believe this!, what kind of a wizard bro does this to another… hey wait a minute." Ice King inhaled deeply and let out a strong chilly gust of wind, Finns wizard disguise was blown right off of him, revealing him in his normal jacket and hat attire. Ice King stuck an accusing finger at Finn, "You're no wizard you poser!" Ice King's hands lit up with energy. "I'm gonna-"

"Hold it Ice King!" Princess Bubblegum stepped in front of Finn and glared up the ice wizard.

"PB baby come on now, get back in your cell and we'll talk later. Right now I have to-"

"Shut your mouth and you listen to me!" Bubblegum shouted. "I do not like you, I have never liked you, I cannot think of a single princess in Ooo that has ever liked you! You are a crazy old madman whose very existence gives me migraines!" the other princesses yelled in agreement.

Ice King looked down right hurt, even Finn thought that was harsh. The hairy old wizard floated back down to the floor. "Okay then." he began softly. "You spoke your mind and I can respect that, we're both adults PB there's no reason why we can't handle this maturely." IK took a deep breath, "Excuse me." he walked over to his bed and jumped onto the covers, then he started sobbing miserably into the pillows. Gunter waddled over and hopped onto the bed, the penguin cuddled up next to the Ice King to comfort him.

Finn and the princesses watched as the poor old man flooded the floor with his tears, Breakfast Princess and Engagement Ring Princess were carrying the still frozen Jake. PB turned to Finn, "We're ready to leave when you are."

Finn looked at the sobbing Ice King, a pang of guilt crept up and grabbed a hold of him. "You guys go on ahead, I'll catch up with you."

"You can't be serious."

"I won't be long, go ahead." Finn insisted.

Princess Bubblegum gave Finn a look of concern, then reluctantly left through the exit followed by the other princesses. Finn then walked over to the Ice King and sat down on the bed, he put a comforting hand on the wizards back. "Hey big guy, how's it going?"

"What do you want?" IK replied, his voice muffled by the pillows.

"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for tricking you." Finn said.

Ice King looked up at Finn curiously, still sniffling. "You are?"

Finn gave IK a smile. "Yeah, I don't think you're a bad guy, I just think you're batshit crazy."

"That's exactly what I keep trying to tell people!" Ice King sat up on the bed, a little bit of vigor returning to him. "I'm not a villain, yet everyone sees fit to treat me like a common criminal! It's why I don't have a lot of friends."

"Well, how about we be friends?"

Ice King looked at Finn like he just couldn't believe what he had heard. "What? Do you really mean it Presto?"

"It's Finn actually. And yeah sure, why not."

Ice King stared at Finn for a while, then he leaped off of his bed with a big grin and danced a funny little jig. "Heeheeheeheeheeheehee! I've got a new friend! I've got a new friend!" Ice King froze (ha) and looked at Finn, "Wait right here!" Then he raced off into one of his rooms, a moment later he came back holding a grey and faded book and presented it to Finn, "Here Finn, as token of our friendship, I want you to have this."

Finn took the book and read the cover, Ninjas of the Ice, The Art of Fridjitzu. "With this book you can learn to be a ninja bro, tell me that doesn't sound awesome. You don't even need to know magic to do it, it's all chants and hand gestures." Ice King told him.

Finn looked up at IK. "You're really cool with giving me this?" he asked him.

"Oh sure I've read the thing over a hundred times already." Ice King summoned an ice ninja star. "I'm pretty much a ninja master at this point."

Finn smiled at the crazy old weirdo, "Thanks Ice King." he stood up from the bed. "Listen I gotta get going, sorry about your breakup with Bubblegum."

"Ah don't worry about it, I'm sure we'll work it out, we always do. See ya later Finn, stop by anytime."

Ice King watched as Finn left with the book tucked under his arm, IK stroked his beard in thought. "Finn… Finn… Finn and Jake… Finn and Jake… hey I just got a great idea for a fanfic!"

Presto, another chapter! So now you know the fundamentals of the Lich's prison and I personally enjoyed writing for Ice King. Next chapter things begin to heat up if you catch my drift.
