Hiiii! I'm sooooo sorry for not updating as much, but as I already told yI hope you guys enjoyed the last chapter, and get ready for a epicly (Is that even a word?) long chapter. Will Keefe get rescued? Will Sophie save him? Does this sound like one of the movie posters? Yes it does, but for the other questions, read on to find out! :) Also, I'm thinking of putting another characters POV in the next chapter. Maybe Dex? Cuz last time it was Biana. Review and let me know! One last important thing before you read the chapter. I posted the last chapter a while ago, and that one is absolutely vital for this one to make sense. If you're only starting from this chapter, please go back and re look the last one. Thanks! Lastly, I made a KOTLC playlist on spotify, my username's YP and my profiles a pic of Marella. Idrc, but check it out! I won't be able to update this story for at least 2 weeks this time because of quarantine and I don't want my dad finding out about this. XD. I hope this long chapter makes up for it.
Luna2023: Thanks so much! I think most of the chapters will be like that from now on, I'll try and make them longer :). You'll find out more about Keefe and Sophie's fate in this chapter, I'm not so sure Sophie won't die of humiliation though….. Just kidding! :)
Keefe's POV
Come on! Sophie, SOPHIE, where are you? My panicked thoughts skittered across my head.
I tried reaching out with my mind, but my head was in too much turmoil and in a state of worry.
"Looks like your little girlfriend won't be able to save you this time. We're pretty much there already." Ro said.
I hated that she was right. Wherever Sophie was, she definitely wouldn't be able to summon the Collective in time to save us . The dark mouth of the cave had nearly engulfed them, and they were moving closer every minute. I frantically tried to think of a way out of this, and Ro looked like she was trying the same thing, but I came up with nothing. Soon, the blue force field that surrounded us was the only thing lighting our way.
"I can't believe we fell for that."I finally said.
Ro snorted."You're saying that now? One thing I learned on the battlefield. Don't think about what you did wrong, just keep fighting." (Arghhhhh that sounded so cringeeeee)
Suddenly, a bright light consumed my vision (Yes, I know this sounds like the last chapter, but it's different, I promise), and when it was gone, I was standing in a bright white room without Ro.
"Ro?" I whispered.
I tried once again to reach Sophie, and it finally worked.
SOPHIE! We've been captured.
What? But I sent the Collective ages ago! Have they not arrived?
No! Could you PLEASE do something?
Okay, okay I'm trying to reach Mr Forkle now..
Hurry up!
He's not responding….
Oh wow, I wonder what you should do now Foster? Maybe you could TELEPORT HERE AND SAVE ME?
Sophie didn't respond, and I thought she had disconnected our minds, but a moment later she asked:
What do your surroundings look like?
I tried to describe it the best I could, which took a long time, and I was surprised the Neverseen hadn't made their moves, not that I was complaining of course.
A thunderous crack split the ceiling and Sophie fell onto the ground. I ran over and hugged her tightly. Had I gone too far? She squeezed back.
"Now can we get out of here?" I grinned.
"How about Ro?" she asked.
Leave it to Foster to think of Ro.
"Maybe she can get out by herself?"I frowned.
"Fine. I can't risk losing you again." she said.
Could that mean…I let my mind wander for a few more seconds, then I snapped back to reality.
"Let's get outta here."I said.
Sophie's POV
I was so glad to see Keefe again. When he had somehow used his emotional ties with me to create a telepathic connection (HUGE POJ vibes here! Empathy link ppl!) that strangely made my eyes glow, I was shocked. How?
I had contacted the Collective as soon as I could and they promised to find Keefe as soon as possible. Apparently, that hadn't worked, sooooo now I was here.
When I tried to push the energy out of my mind like always, it didn't work.
"Um Foster? Any year now would be great." Keefe said.
"I know, I'm trying, but it doesn't work." I groaned.
"Wait-so we can't get out of here?" Keefe groaned. "This is all my fault."
"Of course not! I AM NOT letting you go down that path again." I shot at him.
"It's true though. If we hadn't gotten captured, then you wouldn't be here and the Collective wouldn't be missing." Keefe said, looking so miserable that I couldn't help feeling sorry for him.
"Hey," I said. "We will find a way to get out! Just not by teleporting…..".
A loud voice suddenly blared into the room.
"Nice of you to drop in….." the voice said.
It sounded familiar…..could it be Lady Gisela? It seemed Keefe had come to the same conclusion.
"Are you kidding me ?," Keefe said "TERRIBLE pun, Mom.".
"Anyway," the voice continued, "The princess is being kept in separate chambers, and as for your little Collective…..Lets just say a friend helped out.".
"What did you do to them?" I demanded.
Could it be possible that the Neverseen had joined forces with the Triumvate? If so, why? In Keefe's memory, it had seemed that the Neverseen was standing against them, not with them. But again, that was a long time ago. The circumstances had changed, and we had to expect the worst.
I shook myself out of my daze and heard Lady Gisela's answer just in time.
"Nothing…yet. The same goes for your little princess bodyguard. And it'll stay that way unless you don't listen.".
Not Again. This was similiar to what had happened in Venice (This was a few chapters back if you're just starting to read.) .
"Can you give us proof they're fine?". I asked.
"If you listen you will have all the proof you need." Lady Gisela's voice said.
"How do we know it's not some recorded footage?" Keefe asked. I was surprised he hadn't said anything earlier.
"You'll just have to go by my word."
Keefe snorted. "Like that's reliable."
"Anyway,", I said, "What are your terms?"
"Glad you asked. First, the Vacker boy joins us. Sec-".
She was cut off by Keefe, who said "Wait why?"
"You think I'll tell you? Secondly, that you stay here for a week."
"And why would we do that?"I asked, but it wasn't really a question.
"You don't have a choice. And you might like it."
Keefe and I exchanged glances. That wasn't ever going to happen.
The voice seemed to disconnect somehow, so we were left alone, which was weird cuz there wasn't anyone there in the first place, but now it was just the two of us.
I slumped against the wall and groaned.
"This is such a mess. How will we even get out of this place?"
Keefe leant against the wall beside me. How did his hair manage to look so good all the time? I found myself thinking of random things.
"As you said, Foster. We'll figure out something. Right?"
"I hope so."
We stayed that way for what seemed like an eternity, but was probably only a few hours, Keefe beside me, occasionally making a joke or two.
Keefe's POV
I sat with Sophie on the cold, bare floor for ages. Years seemed to pass until the voice blared out again.
That time it was colder like the speaker was always leering. It was unfamiliar, not anyone I knew. One quick glance at Sophie told me the same thing.
"Here are your orders for today," it said.
"Who are you?" Sophie asked.
"Like I would tell you that. Gisela wants me to tell the girl to contact the Vacker boy. Tell him where you are and make him you do not obey, there will be consequences."
"What?" Sophie said, eyes widening. She looked at me pleadingly.
I took a deep breath.
"It's okay. Just do what they said. We'll find a way to get out of this."I whispered to her.
Sophie's POV
I was stuck in an impossible decision.
On one hand, I didn't want Fitz to join the Neverseen, but the consequences of not transmitting to him could be even worse. I know Keefe told me to do it, but still…..
Fitz? FITZ!
Sophie? Sophie? What happened? Everyone's looking for you.
I need you to come here. The Neverseen captured Keefe and I had to go and save him.
I knew it had something to do with Keefe.
What doesn that mean?
Alright, I'll come, but let me get Biana and the others.
NO! Come alone. The Neverseen have told me to contact you, and if you don't come, I'm sure people will get hurt. They have Ro, and I'm pretty sure they also have the Collective.
What? How?
No time to explain. Time's running out. You HAVE to come.
"Hurry up," The voice said, "We have a schedule to keep."
Keefe squeezed my hand and sent a blue breeze to clear my mind. I glanced at him gratefully and tried to listen to what Fitz was transmitting.
Sophie? Are you still there?
Yeah. The voice just told me to tell you how to get here.
Voice? What voice?
I told you, I'll tell you later. Go to Atlantis, next to the statue of Linh, Keefe and me. They'll get you from there.
I could tell he was battling many thoughts, but in the end, he transmitted that he would get there right away.
"Done. He's going there right now." I said flatly.
"Good. We'll get back to you with more tomorrow." the voice said, and disconnected.
There were a few moments of silence, and then I said "What do you think they'll do to Fitz?".
Instead of the reassurance that I knew would never come, Keefe said "I don't know.".
We sat there, never really sleeping because of the hard, uncomfortable floor, staring at the walls, always wondering what would happen.
Okay….so that was the chapter. I hope that was enough to satisfy you guys until the next update! I won't be able to update that much anymore because school's reopening, but I'll try. Thanks so much for everyone's support. I've gotten over 1000 views! Thank you! Stay safe, happy, and keep reading :)
