Episode 9: The Last Resort.
"The new Emerald Coast Resort sounds like the perfect place to get away from it all! You can hang out at the beach, or float in the crystal clear ocean all day long, then dine as you watch a spectacular sunset! It sounds absolutely romantic." Amy was saying happily, her hands clasped together as she daydreamed. "I wish we were going to the opening party!"
As it would have, everyone was gathered in the garage, packing up beach equipment into the X Tornado to go to the Emerald Coast itself. All except Sonic who was lounging against metal crates seemingly taking a nap. Even Knuckles was there as the red echidna had stayed for the last couple of days and had finally recovered from the little frost bite, unlike the blue hedgehog who recovered in a matter of hours. Yet at Mr. Tanaka's firm insistence, the Guardian was 'talked' into joining the group, and convinced by Tails and Amy to join them for some relaxation.
"We'll have fun at the Thorndyke's villa." Cream said, as Ella had kindly bought her a bathing suit as well as floaties. She turned to her Chao and asked excitedly. "Are you ready to go, Cheese?"
"Chao, chao!" Cheese chirped in real excitement. He couldn't wait to go to the beach and have some fun.
"I'm ready too, guys." Tails announced happily. "My flight plan will take us right to the Emerald Coast!"
"I don't see why have to come along. We should be worrying about looking for the Chaos Emeralds as well as Cream's mother and save her from the Iron Empire's grasp, not goofing off at some resort." Knuckles grumbled, his arms folded to his chest.
"Come on, Knuckles. Don't you wish you could get a break once and a while?" Chris asked. "Plus, you've been bed-ridden for the last couple of days."
"He's right. Besides, a little bit of sunshine and a change of scenery will be good for you." Chuck agreed with his grandson.
"Plus, we can't go around searching for the Chaos Emeralds all the time." Amy added in slight annoyance. "We'll keep an eye on Cream. I don't think the Iron Empire are the types to enjoy the sea-side anyway."
"Ugh. Fine, but don't think I won't be leaving after today." Knuckles grunted, as he hated to admit defeat.
'Party Pooper.' Sonic thought, not fully asleep but he was half-dozing. However, unlike the others, he wasn't too keen on going to the beach due to his aquaphobia.
Chris sighed as he pulled out the grand opening invitation of the Emerald Coast Resort. "I wish I could hang out with them instead of going to the resort opening."
"I know. But your mother can't make it, so she needs you to go in her place." Chuck said, before reassuring the younger Thorndyke. "You won't have to stay long, and after you can join the others at the villa."
"That's great!" Chris said happily, before turning to the half-dozing hedgehog and suggested. "We can go swimming, Sonic."
Sonic however thought otherwise, opening his eyes as he told them. "You guys go on without me. I'm staying right here."
Everyone except for Knuckles, who rolled his eyes with annoyed but knowing look, stared at the blue hero in surprise. Sonic didn't want to join in on the fun day out?
"Sonic!" Amy demanded, her hands on her hips in disappointment. "You mean you're not coming with us?"
"That's right." Sonic declared, jumping off the crates and said to his friends with a smirk. "Have fun, I gotta run."
"Hey! If I have to go, so do you!" Knuckles snapped, making to grab Sonic who quickly leaped out of the way, causing the older teenager to crash face-first into the lower crate. "Ouch!"
"Sorry, Knuckles. But I already have a relaxing spot in mind." The blue hedgehog waved with a grin before speeding away from the mansion.
The red echidna pushed himself up and grunted in irritation. "Chicken."
"That's weird." Chris remarked, confused. "I wonder why Sonic doesn't wanna go to the Emerald Coast with us."
"It must be because Sonic hates water. He won't go near the ocean because he can't swim." Amy stated with a disappointed but also sympathetic frown.
"He even had a panic attack when we fought and he landed in that ankle-deep stream." Knuckles grumbled, clearly annoyed that Sonic gets to get away from this trip while he himself was stuck on a 'forced' vacation.
The twelve year old boy stared out at the direction where Sonic had left, and then a memory came back to him. Back to the night when the first met, how the human boy saved the teenage hedgehog's life from drowning.
Sonic coughed to get water out of his lungs and air back in, on his hands and knees, while the boy gently rubbed his back as he sat next to him.
"I forgot about that." Chris muttered sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head.
"But Sonic doesn't have to swim. He could go running on the beach." Tails suggested.
"Tails, you're his best friend. You should know better that he would prefer flowers and trees." Knuckles scoffed.
"That's not necessarily true." The seven year old cub pointed out.
Amy stared out to where her 'boyfriend' had gone off to. "It's not gonna be as much fun without Sonic."
After that, Chris was called by Ella and Mr. Tanaka that it was come to leave or else he'll be late, before the boy said goodbye to his friends who all took positions in the X Tornado, and Chuck who told them to have fun. With that, while the humans rode off in the car, the Mobians flew off in the plane, already going ahead of them to his family's villa and he smiled in amazement at how fast it was. Both Tails and his grandfather really had outdone themselves in remodeling the New Tornado into it's current design.
Until Mr. Tanaka told him sternly to get the boy's attention. "Master Chris. Remember that you are representing the Thorndyke family on this trip."
"I'll do my best, Mr. Tanaka." Chris shrugged apologetically.
Sonic in the meantime had found a beautiful field near the mountains in the valley that he discovered earlier, lying down on the grass with beautiful flowers all around him. He smiled while gazing at the sky and white fluffy clouds. This was his kind of place, a perfect way to relax.
"Who needs the ocean?" The blue hedgehog muttered as he held a flower to his face, perfectly content. Despite on what was going on, he felt like he could use a bit of a break.
At the Thorndyke Villa, the Mobians had arrived about half an hour ago and while Knuckles, despite wanting to go out and continue his quest, simply decided to take a tan and rested against a palm tree for a nap, the younger ones were playing in the water.
Cream was holding onto the floaty with Cheese in it as the two giggled and enjoyed themselves, laughing harder as Tails was splashing about happily even as they were just in the shallow parts of the shore, making sure that they wouldn't go out too far. Amy in the meantime was snorkling, swimming as she was amazed by the beautiful corel reefs and sea life. She then resurfaced for air and removed her goggles.
"This place is unbelievable!" The eleven year old pink hedgehog exclaimed to her friends.
"It sure is, Amy. I'm really glad we came." Tails agreed.
"We'll have more fun when Mr. Chris gets here." Cream added, before gazing over to where Knuckles asked and asked, a little bit disappointed that he wasn't playing. "I wonder why Mr. Knuckles won't come and play with us, though."
Amy smiled in understanding. "Knuckles takes his job as the Master Emerald's guardian seriously. Plus, he grew up without meaning the word of playing."
"Oh." The five year old rabbit girl muttered, feeling sad since the fifteen year old echidna never had the time to play...or even have friends growing up.
Meanwhile, on the man-made island where the Emerald Coast Resort now sat completed at it's opening, many of the guests were happily chatting away in excitement, all formally dressed for the event. Chris, also dressed formally and greeting the older guests with Tanaka and Ella(who was also formally dressed in a beautiful dress) standing side by side with the boy, let out a sigh of boredom and the heat.
'This is boring, and I feel like I'm about to melt.' The twelve year old thought to himself.
"Try to look interested." Tanaka whispered, snapping Chris out of his daze and, taking the butler's advice without getting into trouble, the young boy continued to keep up the act and shake hands with guests coming his way.
Little did everyone know that the opening ceremony was about to be cut short.
Back in the valley, Sonic was happily and peacefully taking a nap while softly snoring, unaware that the same white and blue chao that lead him to the Chao Colony materialized in white glitter and hovered over the sleeping fourteen year old hedgehog. The cobalt Mobian's eyes moved a little as he softly moaned, but was still fast asleep.
The white Chao gazed at the young hero before silently hovering towards him and gently tapped him on the forehead where a tiny spark of light appeared for a second, and then the mysterious creature vanished, leaving Sonic fast sleep, unaware of has happened to him, and what he was about to see in his dreams.
Sonic had been enjoying a day out running and exploring, which he normally would. It was a beautiful day and he was enjoying it a whole lot. It wasn't until he noticed the sunlight shining a bit brighter which confused him, and up ahead he noticed something odd and unfamiliar. The blue hedgehog skid to a stop and examined his surroundings.
There was a mountain and an entrance to the tunnel of a cave leading somewhere, and to the teenager's surprise, a saw a young Mobian girl enter. It looked like a rabbit, and surprisingly familiar.
"Cream?" Sonic muttered, wondering where his friend was going. Curiousity as well as concern getting the better of him, the blue hedgehog hurried over to follow and stepped inside, trekking carefully through the tunnel with a small stream flowing as he felt deja vu emerge.
Following who he thought was his newest friend, Sonic stepped out into the opening and his eyes widened that it was yet another Chao Colony. Except this one was full of white and blue Chao who were happily playing, and some came to greet the little girl who giggled. When he got a good look at her, he found that while she resembled the little five year old, she was instead wearing a pink dress with white puffy short sleeves, stockings with black shoes, and she had a bow ribbon on her head.
"Good morning, my friends. How are you today?" The little girl, sounding just like Cream, greeted and the Chao greeted her back. "Don't worry. Camellia's here to play with you. My mother and father promised to keep this as a secret."
"Camellia? Who's she?" Sonic whispered to himself, puzzled. What was going on?
"I'm afraid your little secret has been broken, little lady." A dark unfamiliar voice spoke behind him, making both Sonic and Camellia to gasp and spun around. To their and all of the Chao's shock, it was a tall, dark silhouette figure towering over them and having entered the Colony.
Sensing danger and evil from this figure that was hard to make out, the blue hedgehog immediately stepped forward and stood in front of the terrified little girl and all of the frightened Chao, spreading his arms out to shield them. Yet no one could see him even as he glared at the intruder who had followed Camellia who stepped back.
"W-Why are you here?" Camellia asked fearfully, though her mouth moved to mutter a name which was blocked, as though a mute button was put onto her so that Sonic couldn't hear.
"I came for you and your-" The figure was cut off all of the sudden, reaching out a hand towards the group.
"Who are you!?" Sonic demanded, yet finding it strange that no one even made any comment on his appearance. Just as the figure that looked rather familiar in a bad way made to grab him, or Camellia who screamed, everything turned black...
Waking up with a startled gasp, Sonic jolted upright and panted before looking around and after the fog cleared from his head, he sighed before rubbing his eyes.
"Man, what a weird dream. What was that all about?" The blue hedgehog muttered to himself, before remembering what he saw in his dream and his emerald eyes widened in realization. Those white Chao...they were exactly like the one he saw the other day.
Was there some sort of connection? And that girl...who was she? What did she look like Cream? Who was the mysterious figure that followed her?
Back at the beach, Amy was taking a stroll while saying to herself as she enjoyed the scenery. "Lovely. I just wish Sonic were here to enjoy this with me!"
She then daydreamed about her playing with Sonic by chasing each other in the shallow waters, and the pink hedgehog pulling the blue hedgheog along with a floaty around him fitting his size. Amy then imagined the two of them sitting on the shores of the beach watching the sunset, the fourteen year old holding the pool ring in one arm, and smiled at her, holding out his hand to her. Amy blushed and placed hers onto his and the two leaned into each other's embrace.
"It would be so romantic! Ooh, we'd be so happy!" Amy squealed at the thought, her hands on her cheeks as she blushed at the image.
Unfortunately, her daydream came to an end when a coconut fell from the tree and hit her on the head, making her yelp in pain as she was knocked to the ground before noticing what happened. The eleven year old growled angrily at the fallen fruit.
"You just ruined my fantasy!" Amy shouted, picking it up and tossing it across the ocean.
It skipped on the water a few times before it hit something sticking out. Unknowingly to everyone, it was a robot which formed a pained bump on it's head before it sank into the sea with a secret mission that was soon about to commence.
As she panted, Amy realized what she had done before giggling sheepishly. "Just thinking about Sonic can make me crazy."
She then heard giggling and turned to notice other people, humans and visiting Mobians also relaxing on the beach where she noticed a human couple just by the rocks. As Amy couldn't help but stare and let her curiosity get the better of her, she overheard what they were doing.
"Chad, I made this for you." The human woman muttered, holding out a beautiful pink bracelet to her boyfriend. "It's nothing really, but I want you to have it. It's a lucky charm, for when you go in the water."
Chad, the human man, smiled softly and gently took the bracelet from his girlfriend. "Thank you, Wendy. I'll always wear it, and think of you."
The two happy couple muttered each other's names and clasped hands together. Seeing them do this made Amy smile as an idea formed in her mind. She knew exactly what to do, believing it would make Sonic really fall in love with her and that he would join her for the day at the beach in the future.
A little while later, Amy collected the pink sea-shells and returned to the Thorndyke Villa where she sat on the beach chair on the balcony, finishing up on her bracelet she planned on giving to Sonic, while on the beach, Tails and Cheese were making sand castles, Knuckles went for a stroll as the red echidna hoped to find a Chaos Emerald or a clue on the whereabouts of the Iron Empire.
'Hmm, I wonder what Sonic would say.' Amy thought to herself, only to gasp in surprise when Cream suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Who's that pretty bracelet for, Amy?" The little girl asked, curiously.
"Oh!" Amy yelped, hiding the bracelet behind her back and looked away shyly. "Oh, nobody."
"Is it for Mr. Sonic?" Cream guessed, pointing at it.
"Of course not!" The pink hedgehog lied, embarrassed. Before her new young friend could interrogate her further, however, there was a loud rumble that made them both cried out in fright, and startling Tails, Cheese and Knuckles who, the latter having just returned, gasped in shock and confusion.
All of the Mobians looked up and saw to their horror a huge plume of smoke coming from the Emerald Coast Resort.
"What the!?" Knuckles exclaimed.
"Oh no, Chris!" Tails cried out, worriedly.
At the resort itself, just when things were peaceful, a huge explosion occurred and many guests began running away, done by the same robot that Amy unknowingly hit earlier; it was an Octopus robot with six legs and two rubber-hose like tentacles and red sharp tips, attacking and quickly demolishing the resort and ending it's business before it even truly started. Observing it all was none other than Robotnik who was in his Egg Mobile.
"I'm turning the Emerald Coast Resort into my kind of stomping ground!" The evil scientist declared just as the robot's tentacle, with the machine known as Octoron, hit and destroyed a boat before he said. "Time to bring in my deconstruction crew!"
Under his command, an army of robots came marching out of the water and began demolishing the resort into rubble and ruins even further which made the opening ceremony of the resort now a complete waste of time and would have to be built and opened all over again.
As people ran, Chris stood frozen, not sure what to do.
"We've gotta find a way to call Sonic!" He cried out, only for him, Tanaka and Ella to be surrounded and trapped by Robotnik's robots, preventing them from escaping as the evil man noticed them and decided to use them as bait as well as keeping them as his prisoners.
"You're my first guests! Welcome to Robotnik's Scream Park, where your first vacation is guaranteed to be your last!" Robotnik grinned and laughed evilly, just as Tanaka stood protectively in front of the young boy.
"Stay back, Master Chris. I will guard you. As your father's servant, it is my duty to protect you, even if it means sacrificing myself!" Tanaka declared, before going into many karate stances as though preparing to fight Robotnik. "Now it is time for both of us to face our fate!"
Robotnik raised an eyebrow skeptically over the butler's stance, before muttering under his breath. "Did this man watch too many Kung-Fu movies behind everybody's backs? That's the most pathetic fighting stance I've ever seen."
"Easy now." Ella pulled the butler back, pointing out to him as she knew that he had no real training and only gained his skills from watching too many material arts movies. "Tanaka, you aren't even strong enough to lick a stamp!"
"She has a point." Chris commented wryly, making Tanaka blush in embarrassment. The twelve year old them muttered hopefully. "Right now, our only hope is Sonic."
Chris hoped that Sonic would come to rescue them and save the day.
"Hey." Sonic greeted as he entered the living room, flowers in hand he picked from the valley, all thoughts of his mysterious dream left in his head to talk about to Tails and Chuck and maybe even Cream and Knuckles. To his surprise, the mansion was empty.
"Huh?" He blinked, before he remembered and shrugged sheepishly. "Oh. I forgot that everybody's gone but me."
Deciding to wait until his friends got back home, Sonic placed the flowers into the vase with a smile as he commented. "You don't see beautiful flowers like this at the seashore."
He then said in a mocking superior voice, "The mountains are far superior."
"Sonic!" Chuck's voice shouted, alarming the blue hedgehog slightly as he looked to see the elder human Thorndyke storm in from the back door, looking rather angry. "So, you're finally here, are you?"
"Yeah...?" The cobalt teenager muttered, wondering what he'd do to get himself into trouble and why his friend was angry with him. "What's going on?"
Chuck just groaned without saying anything and instead brought up the remote and turned the TV on. It immediately revealed Breaking News, and to Sonic's shock, it showed live footage of the Emerald Coast Resort just behind a large rock...up in smoke and completely destroyed.
"A gang of robot destroyers has been wrecking hotels and resorts all along the Emerald Coast. The situation is growing more dangerous by the hour. Authorities have issued evacuation orders." The News Reporter was saying.
'What?' Sonic thought, but to his horror, the image quickly changed into the one face he didn't expect to see today; the up close live-broadcast of Robotnik that was terrifying.
"Ooooh ho ho ho ho ho!" Robotnik laughed manically.
Sonic gasped in shock with his eyes widened in horror, and while he didn't admit it aloud, the way his enemy laughed and addressed to everyone terrified him, but what worried him even more was that his friends were there.
'Chris!' The blue hedgehog thought in dismay. His friend was there and he hoped that the human boy was at least at the villa with Amy and everybody else. The teenage Mobian began mentally kicking himself for not going with, but fought it back as he knew what he had to do.
"The owners of the Emerald Coast Resort didn't invite me to their opening, so I knocked it down and turned it into my own vacation destination! It's now...Robotnik's Scream Park!" Robotnik adressed to the audience, pointing at the screen which made Sonic cringe in fear.
"Whoa! More like Eggman's Nightmare Park if you ask me." The blue hedgehog commented, only to hear laughter and spun around to find, to his annoyance, Bokkun there with a bomb, standing on the coffee table.
"I brought you a personal invitation! Your friend Chris is already there. He's having a great time! Stop by, we'll have a real blast!" The little messenger robot smiled cheekily as he backed away while the fuse was lit.
"Oh no!" Sonic cried out, picking up the bomb and panicked before he threw it out of the window as Bokkun flew away. It exploded harmlessly in the air, neither the naughty robot, the blue hedgehog or the kind human scientist were injured, the latter two were relieved while the robot was disappointed.
"That's not fair! I was looking forward in seeing your faces in charred burns!" Bokkun whined, flying away crying.
"Phew. Oh well." The teenage Mobian wiped his forehead, before immediately dashing off to rescue Chris and stop Robotnik once more, leaving Chuck to stand there sighing.
"Well, looks like today's opening ceremony was a complete waste of time." The elder Thorndyke remarked. "I just hope it's not too late."
Back at the villa, Amy and Cream had both changed back into their normal clothes as they and Knuckles gathered, the pink hedgehog looking through a pair of binoculars and gasped in shock. There she saw Robotnik commanding his robots to hurry up with a new terrifying looking theme-park with a mountain of his face, a giant shark attraction and crazy and deadly looking roller coasters around with a giant pink and white mushroom shaped bean(whatever that is).
"It's Eggman!" Amy exclaimed.
"That's just great!" Knuckles growled, before declaring. "I'll take care of him!"
"Then climb aboard, Knuckles!" Tails shouted as he wheeled in the X Tornado, already preparing to depart. "We've gotta save Chris!"
"Right!" The red echidna replied, jumping onto the wing, only to blink in surprise as Amy tossed her binoculars at the young fox cub who yelped and clumsily caught it. "Huh!?"
"Amy, what are you doing!?" The seven year old asked incredulously, as his friend hopped into the seat behind him.
"Sonic's gonna show up to help, but if he doesn't, Chris will need all the help he can get." Amy declared.
"Shouldn't you be staying behind to protect Cream?" Knuckles pointed out.
"I'm not going to be left out in this! Chris is my friend too, you know!" The pink hedgehog argued, glaring hard at the older Mobian who growled and turned to Tails for help.
Unfortunately for the teenager, the young kit saw the determination and nodded. "Okay! Here we go!"
"Cream, you and Cheese go inside the villa and wait for us in there. Don't come out until we get back." Amy instructed her friend firmly.
"Okay." Cream nodded, with Cheese chooing in worry before the young girl hurried to hide inside the summer house.
With the knowledge of Cream and Cheese safely inside, Tails closed the hatch and took off with his friends holding on as they prepared to fight Robotnik and rescue Chris, half-unaware that Sonic was on his way as well.
Having hidden themselves inside, Cream and her Chao could only watch worriedly from the window as she muttered. "I hope they make it back safely."
Back at the destroyed Resort that was now the half and almost completed Robotnik Scream Park, or as Sonic would put it, Eggman's Nightmare Park because it looked like it would make people scream and have nightmares, Robotnik was ordering his robots to make the construction as quick, deadly and dangerous as possible.
"Faster! Don't use too many nails and bolts! And make sure you wipe down the cement! I want these rides to be the most dangerous on the planet!" Robotnik ordered evilly, while Chris, Tanaka, and Ella could only watch helplessly.
Suddenly, a blue blur zoomed up from one of the incomplete rides and sliced through one of the attractions which broke off easily due to it's lousy handy work, crushing the robotic workers in the process. As the dust cleared, Sonic landed in the middle of the wreck and pieces of the destroyed robots.
"Well, well." The blue hedgehog muttered with a smirk.
"Sonic! I knew you'd come!" Chris exclaimed in relief.
"Hiya, Chris." Sonic greeted with a wave. "Just thought I'd drop by for a visit. Beach or not, there's no way I'd let Eggman get away with hurting my friends or building his theme-parks that have bad taste."
He didn't get the chance of a reply as Sonic heard Robotnik laugh evilly, forcing the blue hedgehog to turn to him while the evil man declared. "You fell right into my trap, Sonic! I know you can't swim, so I lured you to the sea!"
Sonic clenched his fist with a growl, thinking to himself. 'Why am I not surprised? But I can take this thing on!'
"Get him, Octoron!" Robotnik ordered, as the giant robot stretched out it's tentacles to capture him.
The blue hedgehog smirked and charged, easily dodging the tentacles and leaped into the air for an attack. He attempted to kick at it, only for the giant monstrous machine to hold up one of it's tentacles to shield itself which made the teenage to only stretch it but couldn't break through.
"Huh!?" Sonic gasped in shock, just as the tentacle slithered around his waist, grabbing him in it's clutches. He cried out in alarm as he was captured, then tried to pull and squirm himself free, but it's grip was too tight. 'Let me go! LET ME GO!'
"You're mine now, Sonic! You won't get away!" Robotnik declared evilly with a grin.
"Oh yeah!? Just watch me!" The teenage hedgehog yelled as he struggled to escape, but was then dunked into the water by Octoron, leaving him there to potentially drown. Fear and panic surged up into his body and hear, as he tried harder while holding his breath as long as he could without drowning.
'Oh man, this is bad! Someone help me!' Sonic thought frantically and helplessly. He tried to hold it in, but he was scared out of his mind.
"Let him go!" Chris pleaded, fearing for his friend's life as he knew that Sonic couldn't swim.
Robotnik grinned cruelly. "I'm giving Sonic a choice; he can forfeit the fight, or forfeit his life!"
Sonic continued to struggle to free himself before noticing something behind him and his eyes widened in horror as from the distance of the sea that he couldn't make out, was what appeared to be a giant shark bearing it's teeth, yellow eyes glowing as it began to swim closer. Panicking in terror, the blue hedgehog tried harder. To his relief, Octoron lifted him out of the water and hanged him high above it as he gasped for air, coughing, still trapped within it's grasp but at least safe from the shark for the moment.
"Well, how do you like the ocean?" Robotnik asked, grinning.
The blue hedgehog spat out water, then said sarcastically with a matching smile. "It's delightful."
"Good." The evil scientist responded. "Then let's see how long you're able to stay under."
Sonic yelped as he was about to be placed back under. Not willing to let this happen as desperation and determination took hold, he spun his legs until he successfully made it to the concrete shore, and pulled as hard as he could to escape the grip holding onto him, slowly pulling Octoron with him.
"Don't let Sonic slip out of your grip, Octoron! Haul that hedgehog back into the ocean, and don't let him up for air!" Robotnik ordered, and the giant robot, being stronger than Sonic and still having him in it's grasp, began to step backwards into ocean, slowly dragging the struggling and running hedgehog. "Come on, Octoron! Flex those tentacles!"
Octoron began to pull Sonic back, as the teenager saw this and tried harder and more desperately, before Robotnik decided to play more dirty.
"All of you, Quizons! Make sure Sonic doesn't run anymore!" The evil man ordered, causing the remaining robots to drop their current assignment and march towards the blue hedgehog who saw this and gasped, knowing that he was trapped.
Sonic squeezed his eyes shut and fought more desperately, fearing that they were about to either cut his leg off or just smack him so that he would end up drowning. 'HELP! HELP ME!'
By then the X Tornado had arrived and Amy was the first to see that Sonic was in grave danger. She whispered his name before Knuckles jumped off with a battle roar, stepping in to attack the robots.
"Take this, bolt-heads!" The red echidna shouted, punching the robots into oblivion, unaware that Robotnik, seeing this, growled just as Octoron was ordered to grab him next.
Sonic saw this and cried out, at the same time as Chris did. "Knuckles, look out!"
But it was too late as the remaining tentacle grabbed Knuckles who saw this and was grabbed and wrapped tightly with his arms pinned to his sides, much to Sonic's horror before the blue hedgehog tried harder to escape to save his friend. The red echidna was lifted high into the air while struggled to free himself.
"Dunk them both into the ocean, Octoron! Don't let them escape!" Robotnik shouted.
"Oh no! We've gotta save both of them now!" Tails exclaimed, only for Amy to open up the hatch with struggle. He saw what she was about to do and cried out. "Amy, wait!"
But she didn't listen as she leaped out of the X Tornado, shouting. "Let them go!"
Amy pulled out her hammer and with a mighty swing, she smashed the tentacle that held Sonic captive and since it had been pulling and stretching, it was no match against it and it was smashed in half, releasing Sonic, smacking itself on the head which the force of it dropped Knuckles who cried out and landed onto the concrete on his bottom, and the robot fell into the ocean with a splash. The wave from it washed over and knocked the red echidna over further onto dry land yet he was soaking yet.
"How could you!?" Robotnik screamed in dismay, his hands on his head.
"Keep your rotten robots away from my Sonic, or you'll regret it!" Amy declared, holding her hammer threateningly.
"Whoa!" Sonic yelped as he was flown due to the result of the tentacle breaking, bouncing a bit before he jumped out from the grip and finally freed. He waved over his shoulder to his self-proclaimed girlfriend. "Thanks, Amy!"
The blue hedgehog then ran up one of the broken roller coaster tracks and leaped into the air, turning around to face forward.
Tails in the meantime took out the remaining robots while careful not to hit anybody else as Chris Tanaka, and Ella got back to safety, and Knuckles, recovering, took out the ones on the ground himself. Sonic was once again over the Octoron and went for a Homing Attack. He burst himself into the robot and straight through, before going back inside and attacked it from within, creating large dents and then emerged safely out again. The giant robot stood no chance as it then fell into the water again and exploded.
"Oh no! My beautiful Octoron!" Robotnik cried out, devastated.
Sonic landed safely on the ground, only for Amy to run up to him calling out his name, and to his dismay hugged him tightly and lovingly.
"Ow! Whoa! Lighten up, Amy! Can't breathe here." Sonic protested, pushing her back to arms-length.
"You won this time, brats!" Robotnik growled, prompting the two hedgehogs to look up to see him fly off. "But I'm not through!"
"Yeah, right!" The blue hedgehog called just as the evil man disappeared. Once he was gone, Sonic turned his attention to Amy and said with a hint of amazement. "What you did was crazy."
"I know. But you make me do crazy things, my sweet Sonic." Amy said happily and lovingly, stars and hearts shining in the background. Sonic could only groan as he gazed skyward with a sweat drop, wondering how he managed to get himself a crazy fangirl who had proclaimed herself as his girlfriend.
"This is the worst day off ever. I knew I shouldn't have come." Knuckles grumbled.
"Well, at least you have a little bit of cooling off, Knux. Thanks for the save, back there." The blue hedgehog stated, smirking which made his rival glare at him, but the younger teenager ignored it.
"Everything okay there?" Tails called from the X Tornado.
"Yeah, Tails! Thanks for the help." Sonic called up with a wave, and then gazed back at Amy with a grateful smile. "Thank you."
He was about to walk away to make sure Chris and the others were alright and, as he realized since all of them were here, check up on Cream and Cheese at the villa when Amy called up to him, deciding now was the best time to give him the bracelet she made.
"Ah, hey!" Amy called out, and when Sonic paused and looked over his shoulder, she held out the beautiful sea-shell bracelet, saying shyly. "Sonic, this is a bracelet I made to protect you in the water."
"Oh." Sonic muttered as he turned fully around, genuinely surprised. It was beautifully made. "You made it...for me?"
"If you wear it, it'll bring you good luck."
"Really?" The blue hedgehog muttered, and the pink hedgehog smiled, blushing. He gazed at her in surprise. She really...deeply loved him. While he wasn't into romance, the fact that Amy was presenting it to him made Sonic realize he couldn't deny it. Plus, it was one of the nicest things anyone's ever given him. How could he say no?
But as he made to gratefully take it, the ground shook and Amy ended up dropping the bracelet and almost fall, but Sonic quickly caught her in his arms as the two hedgehogs and Knuckles, who quickly joined them, looked up, the bracelet went flying and landing on the ground.
"Your bracelet!" Amy cried out, only to gasp in horror when it was crushed by a piece of the deconstruction robot. While the two teenage boys glared up, she paid no attention on what was going on except for all of her hard work completely destroyed. "I can't believe it!"
By then, all of the destroyed robots merged together, extending out two arms and a head to form into a giant serpent while Robotnik hovered behind the newly created robot.
"I told you I wasn't through with you, Sonic, didn't I?" Robotnik sneered. "You and your friends are done for!"
"Man, just when things couldn't get anymore annoying!" Knuckles growled. How much more worse can today get?
"We can take this thing on!" Sonic reassured confidently with a wide smirk. "Just because it's different, in the end it's still nothing but a giant piece of scrap that moves."
"You say that now, Sonic, but my Quizon have merged to form Serpentor and it's ready to strike!" Robotnik declared. "Isn't it impressive?"
"Well, that thing is pretty tall, but I bet in a battle it comes up short." The blue hedgehog retorted smugly, but what he, Knuckles and even Tails who was worriedly hovering in the X Tornado and trying to get into the right position to help without hurting his friends, and even Robotnik didn't know was that Amy was looking at the ground with a look of dismay and heart-break.
"Yeah, it's nothing but a slow, giant mechanical worm if you ask me." Knuckles added, his arms folded.
"You'll need more than speed to survive this robot, you brat!" The evil scientist grunted evilly at the blue hedgehog, ignoring what the red echidna had said.
"Really?" Sonic challenged, and, knowing that he had to distract this thing and keep it away from Amy, began taunting the giant robot, clapping his hands to get it's attention. "Yo, Fang Face! Let's see how quickly you can slither!"
As the teenage hedgehog leaped away to get the robot to follow him, Knuckles was about to follow and decided to attack it from behind, so he waited for his chance.
"After him, Serpentor! Get rid of that blue bozo!" Robotnik ordered, which the giant snake-robot slithered to eliminate Sonic who was faster.
"You heard your boss, slow poke!" Sonic taunted, hopping away before turning around and jumped while clapped. "Over here! Catch me!"
"That thing's slower than a real snake." Knuckles admitted, readying himself to attack the machine from behind while Sonic distracted it.
But as everyone's attentions were turned away from Amy, she bend down onto her knees and gently scooped up her ruined gift in tears. She supposed that her charm...wasn't so lucky. She then began to cry over the loss...and then her sorrow quickly turned into pure anger as she clenched the pieces in her hands, glaring up furiously at both Eggman and his robot's direction.
"That Robotnik...! That giant robot...!" She hissed angrily, as fire burned in her eyes.
"Alright, Serpentor, you know what to do. Put a squeeze on Sonic and then toss him out to sea!" Robotnik commanded.
"I'd like to sea it try, Ro-butt-nik!" Sonic taunted with a joke. "Come on, do you really think any of your robots can get rid of me? I can break it apart with my eyes closed."
Before Robotnik could make a response, or anyone else could do anything at that moment, Amy stood up with a livid yell as she brought out her hammer, shockingly almost as big as her now, holding it up over her head. "NOW YOU'RE GONNA PAY!"
"Huh?" Robotnik, Sonic, and Knuckles all turned to her direction and suddenly their eyes widened as the livid pink hedgehog charged straight towards Serpentor from behind.
"AHH!" Knuckles screamed and jumped out of the way in fear at just how scary Amy looked, while she ignored him and smashed the giant robot's tail flat and crippled. He sweat-dropped at this sight, and could only mutter. "What? What the?"
"DON'T MESS WITH ME!" Amy continued as she stood on the rest of the tail, glaring up at the robot that ruined all of her hard work. Sonic sweat-dropped himself as he saw just how angry she was, and just stood there nervously.
'Whoa...she's really mad now.' The blue hedgehog thought to himself, too scared to even say anything.
"Oh my..." Even Robotnik was looking scared, frozen in his hovercraft and having no idea what had gotten her so mad, and not realizing that it was all his fault.
"TAKE THIS!" The furious pink hedgehog went up closer to the main body of Serpentor and swung her Hammer which knocked away one metal attachment piece of it, and swung it again. "AND THAT!"
She repeated the process in her rage, and the giant robot stood no chance, because the more pieces it lost, the more it began lower and lower with the whacked apart pieces flying everywhere. Sonic, Knuckles, Tails who was witnessing this in mid-air and sweat-dropped, and Robotnik continued to watch this event in fear over one little girl's super-human strength of fury.
"M-man! I've never s-seen her this mad before!" Tails muttered to himself, shakily.
"...She's scary." Knuckles muttered to himself, stepping back a little in fear of facing Amy's wrath by accident.
"...Okay. Now I'm scared." Sonic whispered to himself, wisely staying in one place until his self-proclaimed girlfriend calmed down. He was both impressed by her unbelievable strength, and terrified of her pure anger. The blue hedgehog would hate to think what would happen if the Chaos Emeralds were in her possession.
As for the resident evil man who had been the cause of the pink hedgehog's fury, he was quivering in fear, afraid of what would happen to him if he stayed around any longer.
He then shakily told himself wisely, leaning back a little, "Oh no...Perhaps I'd better...go."
"HAAAAA!" Amy roared as she smashed the head to the bottom, hitting on top of it and then furiously stomped on top of the head, roaring even louder before it sprung it's broken springs, catapulting her up into the air. But she used this to her advantage because it lead her straight towards Robotnik, her Hammer ready to strike him next.
"C-can't we talk about thi-AAAAH!" Robotnik screamed when Amy smashed her Hammer right at the front of his Mobile, sending him calling into the ocean as he landed in a splash.
"Even though he deserved that, but what's her problem?" Knuckles remarked, bewildered.
The evil madman meanwhile resurfaced in his Egg Mobile that re-positioned itself, and he spat and coughed out water, simply floating. But as Robotnik looked up, his eyes widened in pure horror when he saw Amy descending straight towards him in, not as fast speed as Sonic, but pretty close and you could practically see the aura of fury glow on her body as she prepared one final strike with a last yell of anger. It was then that Robotnik knew that he was in for another painful and humiliating defeat.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!" He let out a panicked scream, just before she hit him so hard that there was a huge splash that shot up from the ocean and into the air. Robotnik was then sent flying high into the sky and vanished from sight in a blink.
Amy in the meantime was also sent flying due to her own strength having knocked her out and was in the danger of falling into the ocean and drowning. Sonic, seeing this, gasped in horror and worry and knew that he had to save her fast.
"AMY!" The blue hedgehog screamed and while he knew that there was a 100% chance that he'd end up under water again himself and the risk of drowning, he took the risk anyway and raced up to the edge of the concrete platform in a desperate attempt to rescue the pink hedgehog.
So he unknowingly jumped on top of Knuckles, using the echidna's head to jump higher than he would without his friend's help, and Sonic leaped into the air as fast and high as he could.
"OW!" Knuckles grunted, unexpectedly stomped and shoved onto the ground face first.
Sonic held out his hands and successfully caught her before both began to fall with Amy held tightly to his chest. He cried out in alarm as they both descended closer to the water, but as luck would have it, Tails came swooping in just underneath them and the blue hedgehog re-positioned himself and landed in a crouch on one of the plane's wings.
"Thanks, Tails!" The blue hedgehog told his best friend/little brother who nodded, before the teenager turned his attention back to the unconscious eleven year old hedgehog in his arms, gently shaking her to see if she was alright. "Amy? Amy, are you okay? Amy!"
To the duo's relief, Amy gave a soft moan, blinking her eyes open and the first thing she saw was a worried but soon relieved Sonic, making her slowly realize that she was in his arms.
"S-Sonic?" She tiredly asked, and he sighed in relief.
"Phew...It's okay. You're safe now." He reassured with a smile. Sonic made sure that Amy wouldn't be falling off and held onto her until Tails gently landed the plane onto the ruined platform where both the expensive Hotel and Robotnik's very short-lived Scream Park were left in ruins. The blue hedgehog hopped off the plane and gently set his friend down as she began to full awaken.
"W-what happened? I feel a little dizzy." Amy asked, holding a hand to her forehead, her broken bracelet in the other and felt disorient at first, before softly gasping as she then remembered almost instantly. "Where's Eggman?"
"You sent him flying just before you passed out." Sonic answered, adding with a nervous sweat-drop. "Boy, you smashed that robot like it was made out of toy building blocks, and hit Eggman so hard that he might've been sent into space, Ames."
Hearing this made her realize what she'd done and while she was relieved that Robotnik was dealt with until whatever else he can come up with, Amy blushed in embarrassment over her actions. "I...might have over done it."
The cobalt hedgehog laughed a little scaredly. "Yeah...but hey, what you did saved the day. You're a hero."
"Really?" That seemed to perk her up in surprise, making her heart leap.
"Yep! You saved me with the help of Tails from that Octoron robot that could've made me drown, and you smashed that Serpentor before it even had a chance to attack." Sonic praised with a wink.
Amy's eyes lit up excitedly and happily to have actually impressed Sonic...
"But don't think this is gonna make me wanna marry you!" He quickly added firmly, only to flinch when she then glared at him in pure annoyance at being turned again instantly before she even got the chance.
Quickly thinking of a solution, he suggested with a sheepish grin. "But to make it up for it, how 'bout I fix that bracelet for ya'? Can't have all of your hard work go to waste, ya'know?"
"The bracelet!" The pink hedgehog gasped, suddenly remembering the main reason why she'd been so furious in the first place. She gazed at the broken charm in her hand, her heart breaking at it's ruined state. "Oh...It's ruined. I made it just for you and now it's broken..."
Amy began to cry which made Tails worried, and Sonic panic slightly.
"H-hey, Amy! Don't worry, it's gonna be fine! Really!" He waved his hands quickly, sighing as he gently laid a hand onto his shoulder a soft smile, making her look up at him tearfully, which ached his own heart a little. "C'mon, Ames. Don't cry. Like I said, I'll fix it as best as I can, okay? I promise."
Even though the pink hedgehog had a little bit of doubt, to hear this from him made her feel a little better as she softly smiled, tears still falling. "I guess you had good luck even without this."
Sonic laughed lightly, "You may be a little crazy at times, but I couldn't ask for better friends than you, Tails, or even Knuckles and anybody else. Besides, it's the thought that counts. I really owe you three times today, and not for marriage."
"Oh, Sonic..." Amy sighed, vaguely annoyed that he still turned her down over the proposal, but decided to let it slide just this one, and said. "Well, since you owe me three, here's the list: First, you take me out on a date tonight."
"Alright." The blue hedgehog sighed with a groaned. He should've seen this coming. But he did promise, so he would just have to put up with it.
"Second, you come with me and Cream to see the new Legend of Phoenix movie next week. You can bring Tails along, too." She added.
"Consider it done. I've been wanting to see that movie for a while anyway." He replied. That he can cope with, and it sounded more fun than a date anyway.
"Thirdly..." Amy paused, before smiling and shook her head. "Actually, that's all you need to do for me, since you already made up for one of them."
"Huh?" Sonic blinked, confused.
The pink hedgehog blushed cutely, answering his unasked question. "You saved me from drowning, or how else was I in your arms on the plane?"
Realizing that she was right, he shrugged. "Hey, you know I'd still do that even if you hadn't done what you did today. Same goes for everybody else."
"Ahem." Knuckles' voice suddenly interrupted, causing both hedgehogs and even Tails, who was the first to notice the the echidna's sudden annoyed look, to glance at their red companion who gave Sonic a heated glare, with a crossed band-aid on where the blue hedgehog had stomped onto him. "Sonic...!"
"What?" The fourteen year old asked, confused, having no idea why his friendly rival looked so mad at him.
"What'd you go and use me as a catapult for!?" Knuckles yelled furiously. "You couldn't have used your homing attack or something!?"
"I don't remember that, but now that you mention it...sorry. I had to save Amy." Sonic sheepishly replied, scratching the back of his head as he realized that he had unexpectedly used the red echidna to launch himself into the air.
"Well, don't use me as a ladder!" His friend shouted.
"It was an accident!" Sonic pointed out, quickly getting annoyed. "Not my fault that Ro-butt-nik ruined a perfectly good day, which is nothing new with that guy!"
"If you hadn't have a problem with swimming, you wouldn't have to have leaped into the air!" Knuckles grunted.
"What, so I'm supposed to let Amy drown, huh? That's the worst response I ever heard from you, Knucklehead!" The blue hedgehog growled angrily. "Besides, I can't help it that I sink like a rock and water always freaks me out!"
"That's not what I meant and I can't help it that're you scared of water!"
"I ALMOST DROWNED TODAY!"
"ENOUGH!" Amy screamed loudly, ending the argument instantly as she had enough of their bickering. Her yell echoed through out the area and made the boys including Tails glance at her, their eyes widening in fear for the second time when they saw her angry expression.
"You, calm down!" The pink hedgehog continued to Sonic who gulped nervously with a scared sweat-drop. She then turned her attention to Knuckles and gave him a death glare, "And YOU! You should be ashamed with yourself! Think clearly before you speak, or else I'll get my Piko Piko Hammer out and knock your head clear!"
"Y-yes, ma'am!" Sonic replied first, standing in attention as he was afraid of her knocking him with the aforementioned Hammer.
"Uh...U-understood, m-ma'am...!" Knuckles replied next, slowly and wisely backing away.
Chris, Tanaka and Ella stood silently from the side with sweat drops at the scene, not sure what to say about this.
After that, Amy made them apologize while Tails watched on nervously before the day went out, and a few hours later everyone was back at the villa, relieved that Cream and Cheese were still there and the duo were just as relieved that their friends were alright. Seeing that the sun was going down and despite his fear of water, Sonic decided to stay with them at the place...plus, he did promise a date with Amy(much to his chargin).
While Amy and Cream were happily chatting, Knuckles once again resting against the tree, and Chris, Tails and Cheese were playing on the beach with Tanaka and Ella both inside preparing for dinner as well as helping pay for Sonic and Amy's date at the sea-side restaurant that wasn't destroyed, the blue hedgehog himself had just finished up on fixing the bracelet and slipped over his left hand. It wasn't the best of repairs, but he had to admit he did a pretty good job considering.
It still wouldn't be enough for him to get over his aquaphobia, and as Sonic sat on the rock near the shore to let the sun continue to dry him off, he let out a sneeze.
"Sonic, you gotta stay out of the water." Sonic scolded himself while placing his finger under his nose, before standing up as he gazed over the horizon.
Yet what no one knew of was that the giant shark he briefly saw underwater was mainly a giant robot created by the Iron Empire who had witnessed today's events and it was recorded back into the secret base.
Because Julius had been witnessing everything including Sonic's near death and grinned wickedly as while the evil leader knew that the blue hedgehog was still alive, he had his robot secretly follow the group without it being noticed and saw the villa.
"Well, well...It would seem that your friend is the son of the famous actress Lindsey Thorndyke." Julius muttered to himself, grinning. "If you think you can hide the little girl in the Thorndyke manor for much longer, little hedgehog, you are mistaken. I will wait my time until you gather all of the Chaos Emeralds, and whether or not I will succeed in getting that child and her Chao, I will once you have all seven and soon Mobius will be mine."
Julius then let out a dark evil chuckle as things were beginning to go into his favor.
Which meant that Sonic's challenges were about to become more dangerous in the coming near future.
A/N: The part with the Serpentor is from the flash-back in the almost completed story "Sonic and the Werehog", with a few fixed up mistakes and minor changes which I will fix up in the future.
