"Which DigiVice Do You Like Best?"
With expert levels of dexterity, Terriermon lept upwards and landed on the back of Henry's chair. Balancing himself, he peered over his partner's shoulder, getting an eagle eye view of the obsession of the week.
"I just don't get it," Henry groaned as his eyes bounced back and forth between his computer screen and his D-Arc.
Or D-Power. Or whatever the Tamers were currently calling their DigiVices. Whichever name was the right one, a couple wires connected the device in question to the desktop while Henry poked at its buttons.
"Did you drop it in the toilet or something?" Terriermon asked.
"It's working fine." Henry leaned back in his chair, forcing Terriermon to reorient himself. "I just don't understand how."
Terriermon managed to keep himself from toppling over. "I'm guessing calling it invisible magic isn't enough for you."
Henry glanced at the DigiVice. "I've never had to change or charge the battery, assuming it even has one. I'd say they don't give off any detectable signal or anything, but that's not true. They can detect each other."
"Why don't you ask your dad or Shibumi about this stuff?" Terriermon questioned, now even finding himself a bit curious. "Didn't they make them?"
"The Monster Makers designed them, but it was the DigiGnomes that produced them." Henry paused for a second to scratch his neck. "At least I think..."
"What's the difference?"
"They were meant to store data, but their current function is to connect us to you guys." Henry disconnected the wiring and picked up the DigiVice. "Then there's this."
Henry reached across the desk, picking up a Digimon modify card from the stack he kept for when they got into a fight. Before Terriermon could figure out which card had been chosen, Henry stood up and swiped it through the DigiVice's scanner.
Almost instantly after, a set of small wings sprouted from Terriermon's back. He jumped off the chair and, without having to think about it, began flying around the room.
"Somehow it scans the card and transmits its data to you," Henry summarized during Terriermon's second back flip through the air.
"Maybe I'm WiFi enabled."
"For everyone's sake, let's hope not."
"I think you're missing the most important question, Henry," Terriermon sang as he stopped so that the two of them were at eye-level.
Henry crossed his arms. "And what would that be?"
Terriermon smiled widened just before he flew forward and snatched the DigiVice from Henry's hand.
"What happens if I swipe a card through it?" Terriermon stopped himself just out of Henry's reach. "Would I still get the power up or would you?"
"Terriermon..." Hints of nervousness were in his voice and the expression on his face.
With now unfiltered enthusiasm, Terriermon flew back down to the desk and grabbed a modify card from the pile at random. He felt a spike of joy upon realizing that he recognized this particular card.
"How about this one?" Terriermon flashed the card to Henry real quick. "You used it when we fought IceDevimon way back when, right?"
Henry inched forward. "Be careful with-"
Despite being enamored with the mental image of Henry expanding like a distorted balloon, Terriermon was able effortlessly dodge one more time. Immediately after, the wings he had been taking full advantage of disappeared, though Terriermon was able to use his ears to help him glide towards Henry's bed.
"Alright, here we go!" Terriermon struck a pose in the same way Henry and the others liked to in a fight. "Digi-modify!"
Terriermon brought the card down for a clean slash through the DigiVice's scanner. He and Henry both remained perfectly still and waited for... nothing.
"Huh," Henry said as he inspected his person.
"Invisible magic it is." Terriermon tossed the DigiVice back to his partner.
"I guess so..." Henry paused to look around the room until he settled on his bedroom door. "I gotta get out of this room. You wanna take a walk?"
Terriermon lept onto his shoulder. "Only if you're the one doing the walking."
Henry shook his head and gave a slight grin as he exited the room. Not that anything else actually needed to be said. Their bond was more than just a magical piece of plastic.
