It is neither blue nor a castle. Her mother, who she visits more out of pity than sense of duty and only rarely, looks at her askance when she calls it that, and the town acquaintances laugh, though they've never seen it, and even Dr. Redfern does not understand.
But Barney does, and that's why he's Barney.
But he's John Foster, too, Snaith and Redfern at once: poet, rebel, son. And she has broken free of the cage of Doss and is now Moonlight to Barney and (finally) Valancy to everyone else.
And that, in itself, is the Blue Castle.
