It isn't till after the war that they both realize how they feel about each other. They dance around each other until Sarah makes the first move. It didn't go exactly as she had planned it would. Three hundred plus years old and she was nervous about asking this pretty young thing out? Sarah stumbles over her words and even blushes and then Tally blushes and they're just a blushing mess and Sarah Alder doesn't blush except for apparently Tally Craven.
Dating isn't something that really either of them have experience with and Sarah doesn't really like to call it dating, she prefers courting because she's old fashioned like that. But Tally thinks it's sweet and she assures her she doesn't need to be courted but Sarah wants to do this right so Tally happily agrees to this courtship.
For the first date Sarah takes her to see a play which Tally loves and afterwards they go to dinner, which Tally isn't a picky eater, she'll eat anything so it isn't too difficult for them to find somewhere to eat. Most of what they eat is new to Sarah and Tally's glad that she gets to experience these firsts with Sarah. The joy of watching Sarah try ice cream for the first time is something she'll never forget.
Then they end the night taking a walk and Tally gets to ask her all the questions she's been dying to ask for the longest time. They do technically live in the same house, but separate rooms so when they return to the mansion they don't really have to part ways. Tally bites her lip to fight off a growing smile as Sarah opens the door for her. Ever the gentlewoman.
They make their way up the stairs and only part ways when they go to their separate rooms but not before Sarah asks her, "Was the date alright? I hope it didn't bore you? You can plan it next time if you'd like?"
And to Tally seeing a flustered Sarah Alder is something else and she thinks its rather cute as she tortures her by letting her ramble on for a while. Tally quiets her with a press of her finger to the older woman's lips, "It was everything I'd ever want and more. It was very romantic, Sarah. And if you want me to plan something next time I can."
"I think I'd like to see what you'd like to plan."
Tally smiled at that, "Well, then it's a date!"
As Tally is about to go to her room she feels Sarah's hand on hers and the back of it is brought to Sarah's lips where she places a gentle kiss. Tally blushes and Sarah smirks, "Good night, Tally Craven."
And before Tally can say goodnight back Sarah has disappeared into her room and Tally is suddenly feeling like she can't wait till their next date. But really she just can't wait to see her in the morning.
For their second date, Tally decides they should go to a pottery making class which she immediately tells Sarah, "We don't have to if you don't want to. I just thought it'd be fun, I've always wanted to try my hand at pottery. But I can do it another time so it's okay if-"
Sarah's finger is at Tally's lips to quiet her, "Tally, I would love to."
Tally shouldn't really be surprised that Sarah is so good at making pottery, she has been alive for over 300 years so she's probably had practice. Tally makes a coffee cup for Sarah and Sarah makes Tally a vase, "So you have something for the flowers I bring you," Sarah blushes.
And Tally can't resist the kiss she places on Sarah's cheek at such a romantic gesture. Then for the first time they hold hands on the walk home that night. This time before they part ways to their own rooms it's Tally pulling Sarah into her arms and her breath ghosting over Sarah's lips, "Can I kiss you goodnight?"
"I thought you'd never ask."
The kiss is gentle and slow and Tally's pretty sure she's found her newest addiction. It's hard to part ways after such a perfect kiss but they must break for air, resting their foreheads together.
"Goodnight, Tally."
"Goodnight, Sarah."
For their third date, well they don't make it to their third date because Tally catches a cold and Sarah insists that Tally's being sick and being taken care of is more important than their date. When Tally tries to insist she's fine and walks down the stairs Sarah is hoisting her up bridal style and carrying her back to bed.
"If you insist on a date then I will fix you dinner and we can enjoy it here," Sarah looks at her sternly and Tally deflates.
"Fine," Tally relents and huffs back into her pillows.
"Now get yourself comfortable and I'll go make you something to eat."
Tally isn't sure if Sarah can cook, I mean not eating for over 300 years, it makes you wonder if she would be any good at it. Turns out she's really good at cooking, it's not a big surprise she's pretty amazing at everything she does.
"I've been practicing, I was hoping to cook for you one day. I just didn't think it'd be while you were sick. I hope it tastes alright," Sarah bashfully smiles at her as she looks into her own bowl of soup.
"It's delicious, Sarah, at least I think so. My cold has kind of dampened my tastebuds. I'm actually really surprised by how good it is though. And now knowing how much you've been practicing makes this taste even better," Tally smiles into her next spoonful of soup.
"Good, then I'll cook for you whenever you want," Sarah nods as if they've just made an agreement and Tally giggles.
Tally falls asleep with a full stomach and Sarah can't bring herself to leave her side just yet so she watches her sleep for a little bit before she retires to her own room for the night.
For their fourth date they decide to go for a hike and have a picnic, Tally didn't even know that Sarah owned a pair of leggings and how she got them but damn she's not complaining because she looks so good in them. Like really good. Tally may be lagging behind for very certain reasons because of it.
"I would've thought one of my top cadets would be in better shape than this," you can hear the sarcasm dripping from Sarah's voice.
"Oh, I'm in shape, General, I'm just admiring the view," full innuendo intended.
Sarah laughs the first free, boisterous, genuinely happy laugh that Tally's ever heard from her before and it makes her proud to be the cause of it. So she grins and decides to mess with the ex-general, she makes her way to her side and takes her hand in hers and moves in as if to kiss her and when Sarah goes to capture her lips Tally moves away and walks on ahead of her leaving her flustered and confused.
"Come along, General, we have a picnic to eat."
Sarah lets out a low growl as she follows behind her, "You'll pay for that, Craven."
"Oh, I count on it."
And she does pay for it, in the best way possible, pinned beneath the older woman on their picnic blanket. Food is great but making out with the older woman is even better. With the weight of Sarah above her and her hair fanning around her she feels like this must be what it feels like to have a world of their own.
A moment of fear rips through her at the thought of her world being taken away from her and she clutches at Sarah and pulls her to her. Sarah goes to pull away but Tally holds her strongly, "What's wrong?"
"I…I was thinking that I'm really really happy and sometimes it feels too good to be true and then I worried that maybe someday you'd be taken away from me."
Sarah manages to pull back slightly to look down at the sad faced girl and she brushes her hair behind her ear and then presses a kiss to her forehead, "I'm not going anywhere, okay?"
Tally nods and presses her close again until she feels the dread subside and the press of lips to her neck. Eventually they make it to eating lunch.
For their fifth date, that's when Sarah decides to take her to see her childhood home, or at least the recreation of it. There isn't much to it but Tally loves it because it's Sarah's, because it's part of her past, the past she's only heard of. Sarah makes her that soup again and it's as they're sitting across from each other that she says it, "I love you," and Tally giggles at herself for having said it, "Yeah, I love you, I hope that's okay?"
Sarah stands and leans over, tipping Tally's chin up so she can press a tender kiss to her lips, "I love you too, Tally Craven," she sits and they eat their soup all the while making heart eyes at each other.
There isn't a sixth date because they don't make it out of the house, in fact they don't make it out of Tally's room. They do make it out of their clothes though. And when they have sate themselves on each other they lay there and Tally sleepily says, "You know you don't need to woo me anymore."
"Oh, my love, I will never tire of wooing you."
Tally snuggles into her arms content, "I'm okay, with that."
