Author's notes: This is something I wrote late one night after about the 20th time listening to the song Ride from the end of Strange Bedfellows. Such a beautiful song...and such a perfect song for them! Just a short lil fic! It's what might have been going through Ray's mind when the taxi pulled away. Thanks for reading!
Standing alone on the sidewalk, Ray looked helplessly up into the sky silently asking God to bring her back to him. He wasn't always one to pray but the way his heart was breaking, he was desperate. He loves her. And now he knows his heart isn't the only heart breaking tonight. She sleeps in his shirt. He thought Zoe took it or one of the other girls that had been at the apartment sometime with him or one of the guys in the band. Ray only realized a month ago it was gone and assumed it had been gone longer. Never imagined Neela was sleeping in it.
He knew it wasn't fair of him to say those words. He shouldn't have opened up to her that way but he couldn't keep it inside any longer. Ray would have done anything to make her stay...even if it meant not playing fair. He certainly couldn't say he loves her, even if it's true. He told her the next best thing he could think of...and she truly is the best friend he's ever had.
Ray looks down at his hands and stares at his shirt she slept in. He sighed, walked back into his apartment and stood there a hopeless mess. Tears were now sliding down his cheeks and he didn't know what he would do without her. His roomie. He put the pizza in the fridge knowing he probably wasn't going to eat it, turned off the lights, and went to his room. He got undressed, laid down in his bed and finally fell asleep...his arms wrapped around the shirt she'd been sleeping in...the shirt that still held her scent. The shirt he knew he'd hold in his arms until the day came when hehoped Neela would be there instead.
