Albert von Bismarck
Well, Albert should've seen this coming with all the fantasy bullshit like Wyverns, elves, animal humans, and whatnot but it's still a bit nerve-wracking seeing a Pre-Dreadnought sized dragon corpse in the middle of a field of burning napalm.
It all started right when the bandit horde was starting to falter, they planned giant fireworks of Artillery and bombs to end the night so he could go to sleep and wake up to the smell of fresh napalm in the morning.
But then a giant fucking dragon appeared out of nowhere and ruined everything.
Yeah, a red dragon the size of an old Battleship appeared out of nowhere and began burning the bandit horde to a crisp. When the troops finally snapped out of it they tried to fire 88 mm on the thing, which worked, but not enough to kill it as it came down and destroy 2 flaks and 3 MG nests.
He ordered all tanks and artillery guns to fire on the beast which did considerable damage and stop the beast in its tracks. That's when Jets from Graf Zeppelin and Zuikaku arrived and immediately break formation when they saw the dang thing. Apparently flying targets are more enticing for it since the dragon redirects his attention on the planes.
The Jets are fast, at about 960 km/h, but the dragon could easily reach 500 km/h, which while not seem like much when the Jets are at a low altitude they could only reach 800 km/h, and even then because they're not actively punching the engines while cruising here they've been flying at 600 km/h which was dangerously close to the dragon.
After a tense 10 minutes of dogfighting (Where they teared up even more chunks out of it) the dragon finally got the message that it couldn't win and began flying away, which is when the 88 mm struck, and actually blew open the dragons belly and the beast fell upon the field south of Itallica. Now that they regain air superiority, the planes finally drop their payload of 5000 lb of Napalm
Well, ... if the shocked expression of the inhabitants is to go by, that wasn't supposed to happen.
After the battle, he got information from the Princess that the Dragon woke up every 100 years, though for some reason it woke up after only 50 years this time, eat a few villages then go back to hibernating. Since nobody in the last 800 years manage to put a scratch on the flying reptile and it only eat a few villages every 100 years, they would just ignore it and just let nature take its course.
After the battle, he simply told the Lieutenant beside him to send the news and fell asleep within 15 minutes.
When morning came, he returned to the walls and saw the citizens gathered around the corpse of the dragon, standing on the charred ground burnt by the fires of Napalm.
"Alright Lieutenant, casualty report." He said to the Lieutenant beside him. The Polish man simply hands him the report in a folder. He took a quick look and immediately give it back. "Report this back to General Hitler, and ask him to quickly march to Itallica, tell him about the princess and possible diplomatic overture."
The Lieutenant gave a quick salute before he left, as he remembered the report. Out of the 200 or so troops in Itallica, 27 died and 8 suffer serious burns. While one could argue that was tiny compared to the 20 million soldiers who died during the second Weltkrieg still, the shitstorm from getting soldiers killed against Romans will no doubt be severe, he very much doubts the politicians cared they just shot down a fucking dragon.
Already feeling the effects of shouting excessively at musty old politicians, he opened his pack of special "relaxation cigars". He spend quite the fortune to get these high-quality Mexicans in case he gets into troublesome situations and needed some relief.
After relaxing quite a bit, he noticed the Princess and her entourage of knights approaching him, even with the cannabis in his cigar telling his brain to relax, they're still technically enemy combatants he would rather have been locked up in POW camps than be then used as bargaining chips, but he guess they would need to make the impression that they were not warmongering uncivilized barbarians.
That being said, he feels like being a jerk today, so when the princess and her knights arrived at the wall, he lean on her and spoke in a menacing tone. "Remember this sight princess, this is but a fraction of our nation's power. If not for the Kaiser, Sadera would've burned a long time ago." He ended the threat by throwing his weed and stomping on it, before walking off.
Out on the main road, the convoy has finally arrived.
Timeskip
Pina co Lada
It's been a week since the Deutsch and their allies saved Itallica from not only a bandit army, but also the fire dragon, and let's just say Pina has finally lost hope.
After she saw the corpse of the fire dragon burning on the field, she knew, there was no way for the empire to win. The enemy was simply too strong, if 200 men and some siege machines could defeat an entire horde of 40000 bandits and then kill the fire dragon with the help of only 5 iron wyverns? Yeah, she would have to be a fool to believe they stood a chance.
Even Norma has come around in that regard.
But she hasn't given up. No, they could not win in battle but maybe they could win politically. Her first thought was to persuade the Deutsch to pull back and leave but quickly abandoned it after overhearing some soldiers talking about 'Getting back on those Barbarians'. Apparently, when the Empire cross the gate to the other side, they immediately attack the populace thinking they could easily win against 'otherworldly barbarians'.
When it is apparent that they would not leave until Sadera burns, she tried to find out why exactly are they offering surrender terms for Itallica. Yes the city was an important crossroad but it is apparent they could easily take over the city, so why they didn't?
At first, she thought there must have been a strategical reason for them to stop at Itallica and not just run through the countryside before laying siege to the capital. Maybe they didn't actually have enough troops to fight? Overextended supply lines perhaps? Or maybe simple paranoia and overthinking?
Turns out, they could in fact sustain supplies up into the capital and they have thousands of troops ready to fight, and if the talks she'd been eavesdropping are anything to go by, the Empire is performing so poorly they consider them as target practice.
So yes, they are stopping at Itallica and even bothering to open diplomatic talks with her out of the kindness of their hearts.
Right now the best thing she could do was get a favorable peace treaty with them. Though currently, the biggest issue is their insistence on 'Punishing those responsible", which is a diplomatic term for 'Give up your leader and we'll leave". Obviously, she can't do that, at least not yet, seeing as she hasn't met with her father and she still needs to discuss the treaty with him, but the Deutsch representative is kind enough to let her know that they are halting all advances until news of the negotiations come in.
Well, that is until Bozes and her group appeared at the gate, in chains, with what the Deutsch called 'rifles' pointed at their head.
Flashback
"What is the meaning of this?"
Pina was having a (relatively) Good day today, outside of that one bland wine she got during lunch, her day was going pretty well. In fact, the General said they are going back through the Gate for a while to talk with Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm, the Deutsch Emperor. If she could get a talk with the Emperor, she might be able to save her home after all.
But alas, all that's well came crashing to a screeching halt, when she saw Bozes and her group wrapped in chains.
"Princess? Princess, You're safe!"
"Unhand me you filthy Barbarians!"
"The Empire will see you all burn!"
Yep, this is gonna be a loooooooooooooooong day
Flashback Over
After that whole debacle, Pina withdrew to confer with the arriving knights to hear about their situation, and lo behold, they met a convoy going from the Gate to Itallica on the highway, threaten them, and lost a horse in the process.
Worse still, they still held the belief that they could somehow turn this whole war around with quite a few suggestions to assassinate the Emperor at the sit down on the other side. Of course, Pina did in fact consider this option before but immediately dismiss it since it would simply anger the Deutsch even more which would just accelerate the destruction of the Empire.
And of course, she actually tried it with Prince Bismarck, the night before He left for the Gate. Needless to say, they were not happy about it.
Flashback
"So, anything to say for yourself?"
Pina was, not having a good time. After dinner, she withdrew to her room to rest and prepare herself for the journey tomorrow. So imagine her surprise when a guard, military police if she remembers correctly, knocks on her door and asks her to come with them.
She followed them to the banquet hall where she remembers Count Formal and the former/soon-to-be countess were holding a farewell feast for Prince Bismarck and the other commanders, for they would soon return to the other side to deal with politics back home.
So Imagine her shock and fear, when she saw Bozes, in a VERY provocative dress, being pinned to the ground by two men, while a knife lays beside her.
It didn't take very long for the Princess to piece together what just happened.
She attempted to salvage her knight's dignity by claiming she's currently not right in the head because of the encounter earlier. In the end, they agreed not to kill her and simply imprison her until the end of the war.
Flashback Over
She did manage to talk to Bozes afterward to assure her she won't be killed or sold, or, whatever else might happen in a typical Prisoner of War situation. She calmed down a bit, and last she heard she's not making a huge fuzz on the prisoner camp. Still, this whole incident could very well destroy any preconception of peace she'd been trying to build the past week.
Thankfully they seemed to believe her when she said Bozes wasn't acting under orders and was willing to let it slide, though she did notice the increased security and the glares she and the knights received from the otherworld. Still, she suppose it could have been worse.
Sorry for the slow update, have been busy back at home and I could only manage to write this mostly filler chapter.
Yeah so next chapter would be the Saderan's introduction to Earth, more specifically Germany.
Currently my planned story will have them stay in Berlin for politics, then maybe follow Albert back to Hamburg and then Lauenburg for a short vacation.
Whatever, see ya guys next time.
