Chapter Seven

The Aftermath

Peter, Lois, Stewie and Carter were immediately loaded into ambulances and taken to the hospital. Lois and Peter had only sustained minor injuries, while Stewie was declared physically fit. The three of them then sat in the waiting room, hoping that Carter wouldn't die. As mad as Lois was with him, she didn't wish her own father dead. A short while later, they were joined by Brian, Meg, Chris and Babs, who were delighted to see that Stewie was unharmed.

A short while later, Dr. Hartman came out of a pair of double doors wearing scrubs, just without the gloves and face-mask. The waiting family stood up.

"Doctor Hartman, how's my father?" asked a concerned Lois.

"The surgery went well," informed Hartman, "Mr Pewterschmidt is in a stable condition, and should hopefully make a slow but good recovery."

"Oh, thank goodness," sighed Babs in relief, "Can we see him?"

"Of course you can." replied Hartman.

Afterwards, the family went to visit Carter. He was hooked up to various machines and had a nasal cannula in. Lois entered the room first and sat down beside her father's bed.

"Daddy, are you okay?" asked Lois.

"I can't believe I got stabbed by my own daughter." groaned Carter.

"Well, as glad as I am to see you alive, I can't say that you didn't deserve that," replied the redhead, who sounded somewhat cross, "I needed you in an hour of need, and you just deserted me, and now I find that Kate is alive and that you refused to pay a ransom. You lied to me for all those years. You said Kate was killed when you were on the phone with the kidnappers."

"You stole my money!" retorted Carter with a sudden firmness to his voice.

"And I'm sorry for doing that; it was wrong and stupid," apologised Lois, "But I needed that money to save my son's life: your own grandson. In fact, none of this would've happened if you'd just paid that ransom."

The elderly man simply sighed. "You're right," he sighed, "But I couldn't have known something like this would happen. And also, what do you want me to do about it now!"

"Nothing," replied Lois firmly, "But me and Mom are going to be there for Kate: we're going to her trial; we're going to get her a good lawyer using some of the family fortune and we're going to work together to ensure she gets a fair and good sentence."

Carter looked as if he was about to have a heart attack. "Y-you can't do this!" he cried in shock.

"Goodbye, Daddy." said Lois before standing up and marching out of the room.

Babs then marched in and threw a small pile of papers on to the bed.

"W-what are you doing?" asked Carter, flabbergasted.

"Those are divorce papers, dear," hissed Babs, "I'm leaving you."

"But, you can't just-

"Oh yes I can, Carter!" snapped Babs, "I've been a fool for all these years. You didn't just lie to Lois, you lied to me as well. We almost lost our daughter and your grandson. I could forgive the other things you've done, but this is a step too far. Don't you feel any remorse for what you've done?"

Carter just opened and closed his mouth like a fish gasping for air. Babs simply stormed out and slammed the door shut.

Kate's trial took place a few days later. The Jury eventually found Kate guilty of child abduction, holding a hostage for ransom, torture and attempted murder, which earned her a life sentence in Brookfield Insane Asylum, where she would receive the help she needed. As for her friends, they were sent to the regular prison.

A few days later, the Griffins were sitting on the couch and watching TV.

"Well, I'm glad that everything is back to normal," said Lois, who sounded relieved, "And you know what, despite everything she did, I hope Kate gets the help she needs."

"Yeah," agreed Meg, "That takedown at the warehouse sounded awesome… even if Dad nearly blew it by needing to pee."

"Shut up, Meg." pouted Peter.

(AN) And that is a wrap on this Family Guy story. I hope you all enjoyed, and remember to Read and Review.

The next big Family Guy story I'll be doing is Road to Recovery. This will be an anthology story where the Griffins go through traumatic experiences, and must learn to move past them.
