We're walking through the museum, carefully. I got to say, this was something that I hadn't missed in recent years. "Why does it always have to be storming and creepy when cults are involved?" I ask quietly.
"Shh." They both tell me. I roll my eyes.
"Everything in this room has been dead for thousands of years. I think we're fine." I say just before the mummies in the sarcophaguses come to life, jumping up and scaring us. "Shit!" I say louder watching Rick and Ardeth back into a glass display, jumping when the mummy inside starts moving, banging against the glass a little.
We watch as they contort their bodies painfully. "What the hell is going on?" I ask.
"They're trying to bring Imhotep back from the dead." Ardeth notes. We make it to a balcony, overlooking the ceremony space in the storage room below. I watch on in horror as they return Imhotep to the land of the living, watching as only parts of his skin return, still leaving him mostly hollow.
"Who exactly is she?" I ask, inspecting the woman who has been with them from the beginning.
"I'm not entirely sure." But the way Ardeth is looking at her, inspecting her, he's got some idea.
"What are you thinking my love?"
"It cannot be."
"What can't be?"
"That is the reincarnation of Anck Su Namun."
"Well, shit!" We watch as Imhotep approaches her, entranced by her. "This is going to prove to be a problem."
Rick nods his head in agreement. "You know, a couple of years ago, this would've seemed really strange to me." He observes before slapping a hand on Ardeth's shoulder and heading for the stairs, leaving us on the balcony.
"Be safe ya amar." Ardeth whispers as we continue to observe.
"I always am." I say before narrowing my eyes on what was going on down below.
"What are you thinking?"
"That, if I really wanted to, I could totally take them out right now. Maybe not Imhotep, but the others, poof and they'd be gone." When he doesn't respond I turn to look at him and almost give away our position when I saw the look on his face. "What?"
"Sometimes, you're more like your brothers than you think." He says before shaking his head.
"Depending on which one you're referring to, will depend on how hard I hit you when this is over." Before the conversation could continue further, we're interrupted by Anck Su Namun signaling to the other… cronies. Ok, I had no idea what to call them.
As they're about to throw Evy into fire, Rick is able to get to her and we open fire on the crowd below. I'm able to get 2 guys in the head before Anck Su Namun is thrown a gun and starts firing on Ardeth. "Oh, hell no." I say under my breath before I stare down the scope and fire, missing her by an inch. "Fuck!"
I watch as Lock-Nah tries to shoot Ardeth as he runs over to me. "Get down!" I yell to him as I take aim at Lock-Nah, once again missing him. We look on in horror as Imhotep opens one of the jars, unleashing sand that swirls around, forming the guards from Hamunaptra. "This really can't get any worse, can it?" I yell down to Rick and Evy before we all take off running towards the exit, desperate to get back to the car.
We run out the door and I hear Rick say something to Evy before we've run around to the front of the building. Jonathan and Alex are gone. "Where the hell is Jonathan?" Rick yells. We skid to a stop as a double decker comes round the corner and pulls to a stop, revealing Jonathan and Alex in the front.
"Alex!" Evy yells in relief as her, Ardeth and I run to the back of the bus.
"What's the matter with my car?" I hear Rick ask loudly.
"Well, I was forced to find an alternative means of transportation." Jonathan explains quickly.
"A double-decker bus?!"
"It was his idea!" Jonathan yells back, pointing at Alex.
"Was not!" Alex yells from beside him as Ardeth, Evy and I join him in the bus.
"Was too!" Jonathan argued back.
"Just go!" Rick orders before running to the back of the bus.
"Stay up here with Evy and the boy. I'll be ok." Ardeth says, cupping my face with his hands.
"You always say that and then you return to me worse for wear." I say quietly, my forehead pressing against his.
"Ya amar, have I never not come back to you?"
I shake my head. "But there's a first time for everything."
"Have faith." He says, before pressing a kiss to my forehead and joining Rick at the back of the bus. I watch out the window in horror as Imhotep's goons come around from the back of the museum, running over Rick's car as they chase after us.
"No, no! Not my car!" We continue to watch as they begin to chase us down the road. "Oh, I hate mummies." Rick says.
Me too, Rick. Me too.
