A Simple Birthday

Disclaimer: Does it LOOK like I own Harry Potter?
Summary: It was her birthday, but she didn't want anything fancy. Just a small party with her friends. Yet, a small gift from James changed things. Lily x James.
A/N HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAP'N BINKY! I love you forever, and since I'm broke and inept at making anything else, I wrote you this. Sorry it's not the best in the world, but I love you!
Based off the words: CRAZY, CUTE, JUMPY, RING, SOCKS
There were a few things that really worth celebrating every year. Christmas was one of them, but the other one that got everyone excited was their own birthday. It was no different with one Lily Evans. And what was so great about this year? She'd turn seventeen and finally be technically "legal" in the Wizarding World. For weeks, no, months, she'd been waiting for this day. Not to mention she'd be graduating in a few months, then life would really be awesome.
But for now, she was content with sitting, surrounded by a bunch of her friends in the Gryffindor Commons as they passed her small, colourfully wrapped presents. Most were simple gifts, like the colourful spinning wooden ballerina, others were more fancy like a jade necklace, and then there were the "practical" gifts like the large book on the peaceful creatures of England (from Remus, of course). She took no favourites, and valued them all. Including the little ballerina.
But of course, having the Marauder's get her presents meant a few things would be out there.
Like, from Sirius, she had gotten a large cute dog stuffed animal. That alone was harmless enough, but when you squeezed it, it made a dangerous growling and mad barking sounds. This had frightened the red-haired girl, and James had smacked him calling him crazy. Why he had tried to scare Lily on his birthday, or why he hadn't wasn't the question. It was the fact it did scare her. But she only admitted it startled, her, and she responded it wasn't crazy. It had been sweet, and she cuddled the dog again in demonstration.
As mention, Remus had gotten her a collection of books, none that were too out there. Just simple books he had knew Lily would enjoy reading. James frowned, as he watched Lily squeal with delight, as she looked at each one of the four. Remus had blushed the moment she tackle-hugged him, slipping her cool for only a brief moment. If James was jealous or upset, he didn't say. Just sat back and watched Lily scan her new books again.
Out of the presents left, there were two she couldn't decide which to open. The one from her parents, and James. James had gestured to the one from her parents, relieved to see nothing too embarrassing. Just socks, brightly coloured and of various designs. One had flowers, the other had unicorns, one was just plain striped, and yet another was altogether very hippie-ish. Nothing to weird there, and she pulled on a pair of black and red stripped ones over her bare feet, smiling madly.
Finally, that left the small box from James. She picked at it, confused as to what it could be. It wasn't even bigger then her palm. Somehow, she was disappointed. She didn't let it show, and opened the box. And stopped. She looked from the box, to James, to the box again. She opened her mouth, but James shushed her. He grinned that lopsided grin and she pounced on him, kissing him, the small box with the simple engagement ring, clutched tightly in her hand.
Needless to say she was incredibly peppy and rather jumpy for the rest of the day.
