Hey, people! So I took atiny break from Vanish just to post this oneshot. Apparently, it was inspired by Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness.
Notes: So this takes place right after your character gets put to sleep by that Gloom, and Team Snagem steals your snag machine (GASP!) I chose for my Eevee to evolve into an Espeon, so there'll be an Espeon in this oneshot. If you'd rather it be Vaporeon or Umbreon or something, just please use your imagination!
If you hadn't already guessed, I don't own Pokemon, and probably never will. If I did, things would be a LOT different.
The last thing I remember was green powder being shot in my face, and the harsh stinging when someone ripped something off my left arm.
When I awoke, I suddenly remembered what had happened. I felt the pain in my arm, and noticed that the snag machine was gone. Professor Krane was going to kill me.
He gave it to me so I could snag and purify all the shadow pokémon that Cypher made. He gave it to me so I could save them. So I could save us. How could I screw this up so badly?
All I had to do was reach down and grab Espeon's pokéball. All I had to do was fight them. With that Wakin guy having a Gloom, it would have been easy for Espeon to defeat it.
I couldn't even do that simple thing.
In that one moment, I let down everyone—Professor Krane, Mom, Jovi… In one simple moment…
What was going to happen now? Was Cypher going to take over the world? Or what about those guys who stole my snag machine? What did they call themselves again?
It doesn't matter. I doomed all those shadow pokémon. How can they be saved without a hero?
I'm not a hero…
Why did Krane pick me? Why did he give me the snag machine when he could have easily given it to one of the others? Someone more responsible? If Dad were still alive, I bet he would have done it right. He wouldn't have let himself be put to sleep by a Gloom. He would have done it all, saved everyone.
What would he think if he saw me now?
What would Mom think? Or Jovi, or the professor?
"Speon?"
I looked down to Espeon. He must have sensed that something was bothering me. I faked a smile and lay a hand on his head.
"I really screwed up this time," I said, my words sounding unusually hard to my ears.
"Spe?"
"We might as well go back home… We have to tell Professor Krane what happened…" I hung my head. I really hope I miss the part where he looks so disappointed in me…
I took out Espeon's pokéball and looked at it for a second. Dad gave me it…back when Espeon was just an Eevee…
I pointed it at Espeon, letting the little red beam try to catch him.
But to my surprise, Espeon dodged the beam. Strange, he never disobeyed me before.
"Speon," he hissed at me.
I got it. I only needed to look in his eyes to get it. Espeon didn't want me to give up. He wanted me to keep on going, to somehow keep on going.
"Do you really think I can do it?" I asked him.
Espeon nodded without hesitation.
I smiled, for real this time. That's right, with Espeon right by me, I can keep going. With him and my other pokémon that I saved so far. We can find the snag machine and get it back. And best of all, I don't have to tell the professor anything about it. Dad would never want me to give up after the first try, after all. I still have a chance.
I'm a kid, not a hero.
There's a chance that even if I do get the snag machine back, I'll still fail. I can't save the world all by myself.
But I'm willing to try.
What do you think? I didn't mess anything up, did I? (I hope not...)
