Title: So This Guy Walks Into a Bar

Disclaimer: Not mine, just borrowing.

Rating: K, someone swears once.

Spoilers: If you haven't seen Two Bodies in the Lab, you definitely won't understand this at all.

Notes: Is it possible to ship BB if neither of them are in the story at all? Anyways, this was originally supposed to be a funny coincidence. One-shot only.

When he walked in, the bar was nearly empty. A few college students clustered at one end of the place, and a pretty blonde-haired woman sat alone at the other. The man chose a seat next to her, ordered a Sam Adams (it was the capitol, after all, he decided he should try to be patriotic) and downed half of it in one go. He sighed as he set it back down with a thunk.

She looked at him for a moment, and then smiled. "Let me guess… bad break up?"

He rolled his eyes, but grinned back. "Not quite. You can't break up unless you're together in the first place. But I'd bet good money you're the one with the bad break up. Let me guess- another woman?"

She glared at him, downed something from a shot glass, and then laughed. "Yes." She paused. "Well, no. Not really. Maybe?"

He brought his fingertips together and looked her over appraisingly. "So there may or may not have been another woman? You were just suspicious?"

"Er, well, no. I mean, I know he wasn't cheating on me."

"So what happened?"

She wasn't drunk enough to ramble endlessly about all of her problems- but she no longer cared who she confided in, either. "I don't know… things were going too fast for me. And then I met a… a colleague of his, and I don't know. She was very beautiful, but I just feel like…" she trailed off and paused.

"You feel like…?" He gestured for her to continue. She registered that he seemed at least vaguely interested. Good. She was glad.

"Like maybe he was taking things so fast with me, because he didn't want to fall in love with her. But I think he already did, but he just doesn't know it yet. I think."

"You sound like you have my problem."

She laughed. "What, another woman?"

"No, not like that. Like… she seemed interested, but then she kept canceling on me. Well, maybe 'canceling' doesn't quite describe it well. And she seemed to have something going with someone she worked with."

"So now we're both here, sitting in a lonely bar and spilling our hearts to total strangers." She sighed, for what felt like the fiftieth time that evening. "Love sucks."

"Not all the time." He glanced at his watch, then took out a pen and scrawled something onto a napkin. "I know you're still kind of… rebounding or whatever, but if you'd like to go out sometime, give me a call." He flashed her a charming grin.
She took the napkin, and then looked back up at him for a moment before what he said registered. Usually she lied when she met these kinds of men. Gave them a fake name, a fake number. But this guy seemed nice… genuine. Not to mention sexy as hell.

"How does tomorrow night work for you?" She decided she'd get right to the point. He was interested or not.

He decided he was definitely interested. "Sure thing. How about that Italian place down the street from here?"

"Tomorrow… see you at six."

"See you at six, Miss…" he trailed off.

"Tessa."

He stood to leave and gave her one last smile before he left. "David."

AN: Apparently, my muse has some kind of bizarre fascination with David. As much as I'd like to continue this, ending with Tessa and David getting married and inviting Brennan and Booth to their wedding (out of spite, of course), this is staying a one-shot! So let me know… did I hit or miss?
